00:01 I got a membership at a fitness center
00:03 and I'm feeling great exercise and feeling good, 00:05 and I have, still have a free pass. 00:08 So I called one of our buddies to mine. 00:10 I said, "Man, why don't you come with me 00:12 and get some good exercise and feel good about yourself?" 00:15 He says, "Well, great. 00:17 Where are we gonna go? 00:18 A Burger King, McDonald's?" 00:21 "They don't have any equipment there," 00:23 I told him. 00:24 And he said, "Oh, I thought you said extra fries. 00:31 Today's program is entitled E for exercise. 00:36 We'll be right back. 00:59 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living. 01:00 Yes, my name is Curtis Eakins 01:02 and my wife has just finished laughing. 01:03 You got yourself together now 01:05 with the extra fries and exercise. 01:08 Paula Eakins. 01:09 Okay, you barely got that one out, okay. 01:11 Anyway I'm glad that you're with us 01:13 just today and you know, 01:16 that's what I call selective hearing. 01:19 Prime example of selective hearing. 01:22 I can't believe you. 01:23 About the extra fries. 01:25 He actually hung up on me. 01:27 A click. 01:29 My friends were totally hurt. 01:30 He did not exercise for sure. 01:32 I don't think he'd go with the class. 01:33 No, he may even go to the extra fries, 01:35 but not the exercise. 01:36 I don't know... 01:37 I don't know, you know, what can we do, Honey. 01:39 We try to help people out. I know. 01:40 I mean, I got this free pass, free of charge, my buddy, 01:45 he said, he want to work out 01:46 but selective hearing now that's a case in point. 01:49 What can I say? 01:51 What are we talking about today? 01:52 Well, today let's... We're talking about... 01:54 Now this is a series we've been doing for a last, 01:57 like several weeks on the acronym HEALERS. 02:01 HEALERS, all right. 02:02 A lot of people taking medication 02:04 and so these HEALERS this acronym, 02:06 H is for herbal medicine, we covered that already. 02:08 E is for eating, 02:10 A is for adoration, L for liquids. 02:12 Now the other E is for exercise. 02:16 So we're gonna be talking about exercise, 02:17 and it's gonna be wonderful this topic here. 02:20 And also we got three tiers of credibility. 02:23 Tier number one is, of course, 02:25 is God's Word, the standard of truth. 02:27 And tier number two is our featured author 02:30 that we're featuring throughout this series is Ellen White, 02:33 a lot of people know about her. 02:35 And then the last tier of credibility 02:37 is clinical studies, 02:39 the scientific literature as well. 02:41 So that would be the foundation 02:42 of our references for this series. 02:45 Now it's a good thing you said those three, 02:46 because now all the rest of those ones 02:49 like when he said, she said in and that, 02:51 all other kind of stuff. 02:53 That's not a part of it. I read it. 02:54 You remember now 02:55 we've been going down this thing, 02:57 so it's just a three tiers. 02:58 That three tiers and I think we gonna stop in three tiers... 02:59 Okay. 03:01 And we also may have some personal experiences as well. 03:02 Absolutely. Yeah, so. 03:04 Right. You know, we already start... 03:05 We talk about this all the time, 03:06 I hope you have your Bible with you, 03:08 because we're going straight to the Word of God 03:09 to see what does the Bible have to say about exercise. 03:10 Okay. 03:12 And now throughout this series, we do... 03:13 We're working all of our workbook here 03:16 is called the Seven Powerful Healers. 03:18 And we'll be having a webinar or shortly as well. 03:21 But so I'm gonna read straight from our workbook on exercise. 03:25 Now, this is very important. 03:27 I want to read this in Genesis 2:15. 03:30 Genesis 2:15, this is the NIV version. 03:34 It says here, 03:35 "The Lord God took the man and a woman 03:40 and put him and her in the Garden of Eden," 03:44 now here it is, "to work it and take care of it." 03:51 Now, in the Hebrew, 03:54 the words work it and take care of it 03:57 means that they were engaged 03:59 in some type of physical activity. 04:03 Now, I'm stressing this because keep in mind, 04:07 this is before sin, before the fall. 04:12 So God in His infinite wisdom 04:14 realized that even before sin, 04:17 it is necessary for them 04:19 to engage in some type of physical activity. 04:23 That quickly God realized that we would not be totally happy, 04:26 Adam would not be totally happy 04:27 unless he engaged in physical activities. 04:31 I'm stressing the words before sin, before the fall, 04:36 so a very important part that is concerned. 04:38 So now we're in a sinful state 04:41 is probably even more critical than Adam 04:44 before the fall, before sin. 04:47 All right. Okay. 04:48 So therefore, 04:49 'cause people think they were just in the Garden of Eden 04:51 and just still playing with animals 04:54 and eating fruit and whatever, 04:55 but they were working as well in the garden. 04:59 I like that word to work it, to dress it. 05:02 And then also to take care of it. 05:03 That means, they were engaged on a routine basis, 05:07 continually exercising their limbs. 05:11 When you do that, 05:12 you exercise also the internal organs. 05:14 Okay. God knew that. 05:16 That's why God placed them in the Garden of Eden 05:18 to do those things. 05:19 Okay, now we also have another one. 05:21 Is that another one we're gonna be doing right now? 05:22 We wanna talk about Isaiah 05:24 or we gonna do that a little bit later on? 05:25 Well, about heaven or what? 05:26 Isaiah 65:21-22. Yeah. 05:29 Now, let's go to heaven. Okay. 05:31 And now this is going to be interesting as well, 05:34 because this gonna bring out the point 05:36 even further state on. 05:37 I'm gonna read directly from our workbook here, 05:41 Isaiah 65:21-22. 05:45 Mm-hmm. 05:46 Here it is, NIV, get this now. 05:49 They will build houses and dwell in them. 05:55 Talking about the New Jerusalem, New Earth, 05:57 they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 06:02 No longer will they build houses 06:04 and others live in them, 06:07 or plant and others eat. 06:11 My chosen ones will long enjoy, 06:14 will long enjoy the works of their hands. 06:18 Now, at face value, this seemed to be a problem. 06:24 Because if we read John Chapter 14, 06:28 Jesus says to disciples, "I go away. 06:32 In my Father's house..." Many mansions. 06:36 "Are many mansions." 06:37 Mm-hmm. 06:39 Now, if there're mansions already 06:42 in My Father's house, 06:44 Jesus said, many mansions. 06:48 Why in the world are we building houses 06:53 when there're mansions in heaven? 06:58 I mean, you got a mansion, 07:00 presumably it's bigger than a house. 07:01 Yeah. 07:02 So if we have a mansion, 07:04 then what's the purpose of us building houses? 07:09 Rebecca just said she... 07:10 that they're waiting? 07:11 They're waiting? They're waiting for the answer. 07:13 I'm gonna let them stay there just for a little while. 07:15 There's another reason for this. 07:17 Again, before sin 07:19 man was engaged in physical activity. 07:22 Now after sin, 07:24 God saw it necessary again 07:27 to engage in physical activity, 07:29 therefore, this is my assumption. 07:32 We have a mansion here. Mm-hmm. 07:34 We have some other houses on the side. 07:36 Oh! 07:37 Maybe a summer and fall 07:38 or we may not have any season in heaven. 07:40 That's it. 07:41 Yeah, yeah, but the point of it is, 07:42 God in His infinite wisdom realized that even in heaven, 07:47 we will be engaged in physical activity, 07:51 not only building houses, 07:53 but also planting vineyards, 07:56 that was necessary before sin on earth, 07:59 it's also necessary after sin in heaven. 08:03 Therefore, it goes to tell you that 08:06 this is necessary for us to engage in physical activity. 08:09 Now, because we're in a sinful state now, 08:13 it's even more critical for us 08:15 to engage in physical activity than ever before. 08:18 So these two texts alone tells us that exercise, 08:23 physical activity is critical, 08:25 yay even necessary for our overall well being. 08:30 Well, I like the idea what you said, 08:33 we got a mansion and we're going to be... 08:35 They said build and nobody else is going to inhabit it. 08:37 So that means we will have more than one. 08:40 And also that text also tells me 08:42 that there would be no freeloaders. 08:44 Oh! 08:46 Now, okay, you build and you finish, 08:47 you call me, I'll just move on it. 08:48 No, you build your own house, you live in your own house. 08:51 I mean, read the text. 08:54 That's in here too. 08:55 You know, you plant a vineyard and call me, 08:57 then I'll go get your grapes. 08:58 No, you plant your own vineyard. 08:59 So everyone will be engaged in physical activity. 09:02 They all have good attitudes there. 09:03 A good attitude, yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 09:05 Okay, so what are some of the main reasons 09:07 that people become invalids? 09:09 This is one main reason... 09:11 I want to put this on the screen. 09:12 Here's a graphic that we're gonna put on the screen. 09:14 And I'm gonna read this, 09:16 so let's go to the screen at this time. 09:17 Here it is, 09:20 "Inactivity prevents blood to circulate freely, 09:26 this throws a double burden 09:29 on the respiratory organs 09:32 and disease is the result." 09:36 Ministry of Healing, page 238. 09:40 So, when we have inactivity, 09:44 there's no movement of the body, 09:46 no exercise at all, 09:48 the blood does not circulate freely as it should. 09:52 That's the problem number one. 09:54 What makes it even more objectionably doubly... 09:57 objectionably is that it puts a double burden 10:02 on the organs of excretion. 10:04 Being the organs of the lung, 10:07 the liver, the kidney, the skin, 10:12 the large intestine, 10:13 all these are organs of excretion, 10:15 so therefore, when we have inactivity, 10:18 all the waste that should be removed 10:21 stays in the system because of a lack of exercise. 10:25 E for exercise is a very powerful healer, 10:30 just moving those limbs 10:31 and we stated that in the Word of God, 10:34 even before sin entered the world. 10:38 So now we're in a sinful state 10:40 is even more important now than before sin. 10:44 So I know somebody is asking a question, 10:46 and we're talking about exercise and working, 10:48 so which is more beneficial? 10:52 The walking, running, which one, you know, 10:57 is because you're saying move the limb, so... 10:59 Right. 11:00 Now... What if... 11:02 What if I'm not a runner? 11:03 Yeah. 11:06 So which is more important or do they have the same bit? 11:09 Yeah, and we get this question all the time. 11:10 Yeah. Okay. 11:12 And so I wanna read straight from our workbook. 11:15 There was a medical journal called Division of Cardiology, 11:18 Hartford, Connecticut Hospital, they did a study here, 11:23 Walking versus Running for Hypertension 11:26 and Diabetes Risk Reduction. 11:29 Walking versus running. 11:31 And the objective is to see whether or not walking 11:34 is as beneficial as running. 11:36 Okay. 11:37 Here the results, let's just get to this here. 11:39 Here's a result. 11:41 "Walking produce same result 11:45 for lowering blood pressure, 11:48 cholesterol, and diabetes control. 11:52 In fact, in some cases, 11:54 brisk walking was actually 11:57 marginally more beneficial." 12:02 Mm-hmm. 12:03 And a lot of times, you know, 12:06 I know you do some walking too and I think, 12:09 let's talk about some of the things you do, 12:11 Honey, as far as your exercise 12:13 is concerned on a routine basis? 12:15 Share with the audience at this time? 12:16 Well, one of the things is that I'm very crazy about... 12:18 You were saying about the gym 12:20 that's where I love going to the gym. 12:21 You know, we walk also on off days, 12:23 but Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'm at the gym. 12:26 All right, so my favorite... 12:27 I actually had to start off fitness. 12:29 Okay, fitness. 12:30 So tell me just a little bit about what did you do there? 12:33 Okay, Zumba. 12:35 Oh, Zumba? Okay, that's aerobic, cardio. 12:38 Oh, that would be aerobics, okay. 12:40 And I'll do... 12:42 After the Zumba class, bands, balls, and weight. 12:45 So it's strength bearing exercise as well. 12:48 So all that's a part of it and then on the off days, 12:51 that's Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:52 and then on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:54 then I'll do my speed walking 12:56 or my walking in the neighborhood 12:57 to get my 10,000 steps in. 12:59 Oh, okay. 13:00 So and, you know, 13:01 now we're here taping here at 3ABN. 13:03 Yeah. 13:04 And it works because I have a fitness... 13:06 I go to a fitness gym there in Huntsville as well at UAH, 13:09 University of Alabama in Huntsville, 13:10 and I do resistance training. 13:12 I do race walking. Yes, you do. 13:14 And so I do that as well and I do both. 13:16 And remember we had a screening one time 13:18 there in Huntsville, you remember that screening? 13:21 Screening of the legs... I remember that. 13:23 Cardiovascular system, peripheral, our legs screening. 13:26 And the guy, the doctor came in and he screened our legs. 13:30 And the doctor said to me, he said, Curtis, he says, 13:33 "These are the best legs I ever seen." 13:36 I said, "Are you trying to hit on me?" 13:38 "Oh, no, no. No, no, no. 13:40 That's not what I mean." 13:41 He started studying, turning red. 13:42 "No, no, I didn't mean that way." 13:44 I said, "Your legs look good 13:45 as far as circulation is concerned." 13:47 Oh, okay, that's fine. 13:48 Because, you know, you never know nowadays. 13:50 But so but... Yeah, go about it, Honey. 13:51 The funny thing was that when he came in there, they... 13:54 We said we want to be together, okay. 13:56 Mostly everything we do we do together, all right. 13:57 So we were in a room together. 13:59 And when he did finish the screening, 14:00 that's when he was making a comment. 14:02 He said, "What do y'all do?" 14:03 And we said, "We walk a lot." 14:05 And he said, "It shows. 14:06 It actually shows." Yeah. 14:07 So that's a blessing, that's a blessing. 14:09 You know, a lot of people say, "Oh, I'm just too old, 14:11 you know, I'm in my 60s, 70s, 80s, whatever," 14:13 and so we have a picture of someone 14:17 doing some physical activity. 14:18 So let's go to the screen at this time 14:20 and show who this person is on the screen. 14:22 So let's go to screen at this time. 14:24 And that is our mother, Eleanor Eakins. 14:29 I didn't get permission to do this. 14:30 I hope... She'll be fine. 14:31 When she sees it, she will be all right. 14:33 And she's in the Cotton... 14:34 This is the Cotton Row Run in Huntsville. 14:36 Over 5,000, she's doing the 5K. 14:38 Yeah. 14:39 And it's just a few years ago, 14:41 and her age is at 85. 14:44 She went but tell you, 14:46 every year is the oldest female in the Cotton Row, 14:47 so you're never too old to get in there 14:50 and do some exercise. 14:51 And now she's walking the 5K as well and you do that... 14:55 You do The Liz Hurley. 14:56 Well, the thing is so funny is that we, 14:58 we all have decided to get into that too as well. 15:00 Yeah. 15:01 Our church began, we checked out people, 15:02 we found they were runners and runners in our church 15:04 and they were doing different 5K, 10Ks. 15:07 And so we decided first we went and looked at them. 15:09 And then we said, "Why are we standing here 15:10 and watching them do that?" 15:12 And then we got involved. 15:13 And then your mom when she found you and I 15:15 were in the races, 15:16 she decided she would get involved. 15:17 And when you saw her waving 15:19 in that graphic, it was so funny. 15:20 She was waving, yeah. 15:21 Because you're actually clocking you, 15:23 you have the bands on you, the numbers on you... 15:24 That's right, the numbers, yeah. 15:25 And then like she's waving everybody. 15:27 She's coming down and I said, "Mom, come on in," 15:28 because it means something 15:30 as far as your minutes are concerned. 15:31 That's what she said. 15:32 Oh, oh, just start walking a little bit faster. 15:34 Yeah, yeah. 15:35 So we love getting involved in those things. 15:36 Yeah, you do the Cotton Row. Yeah. 15:38 And then I did The Liz Hurley for breast cancer awareness. 15:39 Yeah. Okay. 15:41 And, folk, we just want to emphasize anybody there 15:43 that's watching to really engage 15:45 in some type of physical activity 15:47 and so it will also circulate the blood. 15:50 In order to have perfect health, 15:52 we must have perfect circulation, 15:56 and so exercise will do that 15:58 and brisk walking can do it as well. 16:01 And I think we've run out of time, 16:02 we'll probably talk a little bit more 16:03 in the kitchen, 16:05 but my grandmother, our grandmother, 16:07 who now passed now, 16:09 but she engaged in physical activity as well. 16:12 And if you go just to YouTube, 16:14 and type in 105 year young 16:20 on YouTube, 105 year young, 16:22 she my grandmother is doing exercise 16:24 upper and lower body 16:26 to a tune of Rocky in the background, 16:28 so you're never too old. 16:29 Even at 105, she was engaged in physical activity. 16:34 So I think it's the time to go into the kitchen, Honey. 16:35 Yeah, it's time to go into the kitchen, 16:37 I mean, there's so much more we could say, 16:38 it's in the book, it's in the book, 16:39 okay. 16:41 But we're going in the kitchen and we're making a sausage, 16:43 vegetable skillet, a one meal dish, 16:46 get your paper and your pencil. 16:48 You know what we're going to say, 16:49 write and meet us in the kitchen. |
