00:01 The secret to change
00:02 is to focus all of our energies 00:05 not on resisting the bad, 00:08 but to incorporate the new. 00:10 Today's program is entitled "Tools for Transformation." 00:15 Be with us. 00:38 Hi, and welcome to Abundant Living. 00:40 My name is Curtis Eakins, and this is my beautiful bride 00:45 of almost 25 years 00:48 at the time of this taping. 00:50 I can do it now. Yes, you can. 00:52 Okay, Paula Eakins. 00:53 Very good. 00:55 Kind of delayed, but I'm glad you said it. 00:56 Well, you were kind of talking 00:58 and I was not sure, I didn't want to interrupt you. 00:59 All right. 01:01 You're looking mighty good today. 01:02 Praise Him. Yes. 01:03 Hair is already "Fried, dyed and laid to the side," 01:05 as you sometimes will say. 01:08 Well, let's say... 01:10 No comment on that statement, well, 01:11 you just want to go to Tools for Transformation, right? 01:14 Yeah, yeah. Okay. 01:16 Because I'm always transforming. 01:17 Yes, 'cause you didn't want 01:18 to touch your hair, you're just... 01:20 I'm always transforming. 01:21 Just over to the Tools for Transformation. 01:23 I am. Yes. I hear you, my dear. 01:24 Yes! Okay! 01:25 Well, anyway, 01:27 we've been doing a series called The HEALERS 01:28 for a number of months now. 01:30 And this is at the end of that series. 01:32 Those who are not with us, we cover an acronym. 01:35 And the acronym is HEALERS, HEALERS. 01:37 Want to get that individuals 01:40 to reduce the dependence on medication. 01:42 And so therefore, 01:44 we have the H for herbal medicine, 01:47 head to E for eating, 01:49 A for adoration. 01:51 That's prayer, praise, and music. 01:53 L for water. 01:54 Water and juicing, this is a powerful healer. 01:57 E for exercise, 01:59 R for rest, 02:01 S for sunlight. 02:02 And now to put it all together, wrapping it up on this series. 02:06 Now Tools for Transformation. 02:09 Tool for Transformation. 02:11 And so we always start with a word of God first. 02:13 And then also may have some statements 02:15 in our workbook as well. 02:17 We do have a workbook. 02:18 We were working all out 02:20 for the last several months now, 02:22 the seven powerful healers. 02:23 And we did this class at our church, 02:25 First Church in Huntsville, Alabama. 02:28 At least what twice or three times I believe. 02:30 We done it in camp meeting. 02:31 In our camp meeting there, Oakwood University. 02:34 And I think we had a health retreat 02:36 on the powerful healers as well. 02:38 So we thought we'd do this as a series 02:39 here at the Abundant Living as well. 02:42 And so we have a text here, Honey. 02:45 And I'm gonna have this as a springboard 02:47 and then I'm going to just more or less 02:50 kind of turn you loose on some things. 02:52 So let's go to the Word of God. 02:54 This is Romans Chapter 12 02:56 and I'm gonna start with verse 1. 02:59 Romans Chapter 12, 03:00 I wanna read verse 1 03:02 and we're gonna go to verse 2 as well. 03:03 Right. 03:05 Verse 1, "I beseech, urge, 03:09 bake you therefore, brethren." 03:14 Now, he's talking to professed Christians. 03:17 "Brethren, 03:18 by the mercies of God, 03:21 that ye present your bodies 03:24 as a living sacrifice. 03:28 Not a dead one, but a living, 03:30 alive sacrifice," how? 03:33 "Holy, acceptable unto God, 03:37 which is your reasonable service." 03:40 Now Verse 2. 03:41 This is going to add to the foundation 03:43 of our discussion today. 03:46 "Be not conformed to this world." 03:50 That's number one. 03:52 But now there's a shift, a transition 03:55 that tells us what not to do. 03:57 Do not be conformed to this world, 03:59 so what should will be conformed to. 04:02 But be ye transformed how? 04:07 By the renewing of your mind, how? 04:11 That ye may prove what is that good, 04:14 and acceptable, 04:15 and perfect will of God. 04:19 So we're talking about tools for transformation. 04:24 We talked a lot about over the last several months 04:26 about the HEALERS, the acronym, 04:28 the program we've been doing all along. 04:31 And so now we want to talk about 04:32 how to make some transition, some changes in our lives, 04:36 so that we can live better lives 04:39 and be a living sacrifice 04:41 to where the Bible says we need to be. 04:43 Now, there are some things 04:45 that we need to do as far as tools for transformation. 04:48 And also there's something that 04:50 several verse we need to look at, 04:52 give us some steps for transformation. 04:54 Okay. 04:55 The first one is, before we can change 04:58 we must first acknowledge. 05:00 Okay. 05:02 We cannot change 05:03 unless we acknowledge something. 05:05 Two, we must be motivated. 05:08 To do that, once we acknowledge that we do have a situation. 05:11 Three, we must have some type of a plan in place. 05:16 And then now four, we must go ahead 05:18 and execute it, put it in action. 05:20 And then five must have some type of way 05:23 to maintain that change in our lifestyle 05:27 to make it better as well. 05:28 So first of all, 05:30 we must acknowledge that we have a situation, 05:32 a problem, health condition, whatever, 05:34 be motivated to change, 05:37 have a action plan that's prayed over, 05:41 execute, 05:42 put the plan into practice and then also maintain it, 05:45 whatever we were doing and keep it going as well. 05:47 So with that in mind, Honey, 05:50 I'm gonna just kind of like turn you loose 05:52 because there's something 05:53 that God allow to happen in our family 05:57 some years ago 05:58 that created this change 06:02 in some processes that we had to go through. 06:05 And it really proved to be a blessing 06:08 to our ministry as well. 06:09 So that's all I'm going to say but share with the people, 06:12 Honey, about situation where God allow this situation 06:16 to come into our lives 06:17 as a husband and wife. 06:19 Of course, I like the fact that you said 06:20 the word transformation. 06:22 Transform. 06:23 Rather than a transforming, rather than a word change. 06:27 Right. 06:28 We don't like that word change. Yeah, we don't. Yes. 06:30 We get fearful of the word change, okay? 06:32 But I'm gonna try to see if I can just keep it 06:34 within the numbers of that comments 06:36 that you were actually making about the first one, 06:38 about acknowledgement. 06:40 I think for me, 06:41 for what acknowledgement was that 06:42 once I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 06:46 I was kind of surprised first of all, okay? 06:48 Okay. 06:50 And in that diagnosis of knowing that 06:52 that's what they were saying the stage, 06:54 the grading and all that, 06:55 then I knew that something had to take place. 06:57 No, no. I'm just stopping now. 06:59 So prior to this, you've been doing your mammogram 07:02 and self breast exam all along. 07:04 Okay. 07:06 And also, of course, everybody gets really... 07:07 also a vegan vegetarian. 07:09 Okay. 07:10 So already a plant-based diet for many years 07:12 and exercise, water, etcetera. 07:14 Okay. 07:15 And so with that in mind, 07:17 so that was where the surprise came from, all right? 07:19 And no breast cancer or ovarian cancer 07:21 in your family history? 07:23 None. Yes. 07:24 Okay. Okay. 07:25 And so with that in mind, 07:27 I remember that once the doctors said, 07:28 gave me the diagnosis that I remember 07:30 just starting to pray right away 07:32 because, of course, right there 07:33 they were talking about some heavy surgery, 07:35 they were talking about chemo, radiation, hormone treatment. 07:39 And then when he said to me, there's a possibility that 07:42 it could already be in your bones. 07:44 That was like, okay, all right, first of all, 07:46 it was way too much to hit it one time 07:48 he even say that. 07:49 And I think the doctor said for a minute then he left. 07:51 When he left, the nurse came up 07:52 and pushed the paper in front of me saying that 07:54 it was time for me to go head on 07:55 and had the bone test on that next morning. 07:58 The next morning. All right. 08:00 And so the motivation part, the motivation part was, 08:04 of course, I want to live. 08:05 And in that, I want to know what God had for me. 08:10 He is my God, He's my Lord, He's my Savior, He's my Father. 08:14 He's the first one I go to when stuff happens to me. 08:16 He is the first one. 08:17 And mainly because everything I've ever been through, 08:21 since accepting Him as my personal Savior, 08:22 and He has just shown me 08:24 how He is in charge of everything, 08:26 so that motivation I want to live. 08:28 But also told the Father that whatever your will is for me, 08:32 that's what I want. 08:33 So whether it was to live 08:35 or whether it was to go to sleep, 08:36 whichever it was, I was okay. 08:38 That helped to calm me down as well, all right? 08:39 Okay. Let... 08:41 Now, I need to stop you here because with that in mind, 08:45 some people will not acknowledge 08:49 that they have cancer. 08:51 Some people have call their house 08:53 and they will tell us a, 08:54 Curtis, Paula, I'm not receiving it. 08:57 The doctor said I have cancer, but I'm not receiving it. 09:00 I'm not gonna accept that. 09:02 You don't even acknowledge, so there's no need to change 09:05 if we don't even acknowledge. 09:07 That's true. That is true. 09:09 However, we both before this experience, 09:12 we were actually speakers about cancer. 09:14 That's right. 09:15 The different stages of cancer, so it was almost like, 09:17 prior to what I was gonna go on years, years earlier. 09:20 We had already learned and was educating people 09:22 on the stages of cancer. 09:24 So once we heard it, we knew what was going on now. 09:26 Yes, it is true. 09:27 People call me up and say things like, 09:29 "I'm not gonna acknowledge it. 09:30 I'm gonna go by faith and God's gonna be good." 09:32 But you know, you got to be real, 09:33 you got to be real. 09:35 Once cancer hits, it is a massive cell. 09:37 It has major cells within itself. 09:40 It has the potential to move to the brain, 09:42 the bone, lung, and liver metastasize. 09:44 So you got to get in and get that core out. 09:46 It is the only disease, Curtis, 09:48 that builds its own separate bloodline. 09:50 And it will actually transfer the cells itself into an area 09:55 that can actually take your life and so, 09:57 I wasn't going to be like doing a faith walk. 09:59 I knew that I needed to have surgery. 10:01 And I need to stop you again because a lot of people, 10:03 just got a call just yesterday, just yesterday, 10:07 where a person has cancer and refused to have surgery. 10:12 That choice where he's trying to still do it natural, 10:16 but the cancer is still in his system 10:18 it's gonna be more challenging than have surgery, 10:20 at least you needs to have a good start. 10:22 Yeah, you got to get the core out. 10:24 We talked to Dr. Agatha Thrash with my second opinion. 10:27 She said, "Sister Paula, get the surgery 10:29 and then let's go natural, 10:31 but let's get the surgery and get the core, 10:32 the mother out." 10:34 Okay. 10:35 So now, what kind of plan, now, the third one is a plan. 10:38 So you didn't do that though chemotherapy, radiation, 10:41 hormone treatment to drugs, so you have to have a plan, 10:44 if you not gonna do that, what kind of plan did you have? 10:47 I know what it is, but I'm asking you. 10:50 Well, you know, we began talking, 10:51 we began praying. 10:52 And we began pulling in our pastors, 10:55 prayer warriors, all my friends, my family. 10:58 You started talking, you started doing research. 11:00 We talked to Dr. Thrash, 11:01 we start what is the alternative plan 11:03 because what they were suggesting 11:05 was six months chemo, six weeks radiation, 11:09 and three to five years hormone treatment. 11:10 My question and we said this before on the show, 11:13 I asked my oncologist, with what you're saying to me, 11:16 what could be the side effects of any of this thing going on? 11:19 And he said, "Okay, Paula, 11:20 there's a possibility that you will lose your hair, 11:23 you'll become very lethargic. 11:25 You also warming a lot, 11:26 but we can stop you from doing that. 11:28 You could possibly work, 11:29 wind up with a congestive heart failure 11:31 and breakage of the hip, 11:34 the wrists and the vertebrae 11:36 to which I said, "How does that sound to you?" 11:39 How does that sound to you? 11:40 'Cause I want know what you're saying to me 11:42 it doesn't sound good, 11:44 so we're going to pray and I went away. 11:45 My plan was Dr. Thrash asked me to come to Uchee Pines. 11:48 Now, I need to stop 11:50 'cause you keep saying Dr. Thrash. 11:51 Okay. 11:53 Now this is a medical doctor and also a pathologist, 11:55 who at the time was the director 11:57 of a lifestyle facility in Uchee Pines, Alabama, 12:02 been there since the 1970s. 12:04 Yeah. 12:05 People all over the world go to that facility 12:07 for all kinds of treatments. 12:09 So that's Dr. Thrash, yes. 12:10 Okay, so I'm glad you helped me with that. 12:12 Okay. Okay, 'cause I'm moving. 12:14 Yes, okay. 12:15 So I went away to Uchee Pines. 12:17 And the thing that was so amazing. 12:19 I want to say to you that it's amazing to watch 12:21 how Father God works. 12:23 He actually charts all of our journeys, 12:24 He knows the way we are going. 12:26 As a matter of fact, He says that He has count 12:28 of all our hairs on our head. 12:30 And so He knows it all, so who better to go to. 12:33 I went to Him. 12:34 I asked Him for leading me and for guiding me 12:37 and for directing me. 12:38 And through the anointing service, 12:39 talking back and forth to each other 12:41 we made the decision 12:42 that we were not going to do chemo 12:44 and radiation and hormone treatment. 12:45 Instead, we were going to go all natural. 12:48 So that's the plan. 12:49 That's the plan. And we feel. 12:50 And this is through prayer, folks. 12:52 Yes, yes. 12:53 Through prayer, fasting, studying, and research, 12:56 and so we went the complete natural route, 12:59 not going to any details about that. 13:01 So we have a plan in place. 13:02 A lot of people, I'm emphasizing this, 13:04 a lot of people may not want to do the conventional route, 13:08 radiation, chemotherapy, drugs, okay, I get that. 13:11 But they do not have a well thought out plan 13:15 in place of that. 13:17 There's no plan in place. 13:19 Just not going to do the chemotherapy, 13:21 radiation and the drug. 13:22 So you have to have a plan something in its place. 13:25 And that's what God gave us about the plan, all right? 13:28 Cancer is deadly. 13:30 The only thing I can remember is that 13:32 when I went to the Father about that word, 13:34 cancer, Father. 13:35 He said, Paula, 13:37 C does not just stand for cancer. 13:38 C also stands for conqueror and it also stands for Christ. 13:42 I am with you in this journey. 13:44 I will follow you along the way. 13:46 I will be leading you some in a way. 13:48 I'll pick you up somewhere in a way. 13:50 But the bottom line is if you just trust Me 13:53 no matter what, okay, just trust Me. 13:57 And that's exactly what I do. 13:59 I trust Him in everything. Yes. 14:01 So to me, it was just my quiet time, 14:04 my devotional time. 14:06 Yes. 14:07 Sitting down, talking to Him every morning 14:08 and singing and reading the scriptures 14:10 and just letting me know. 14:11 I mean, God just blew this thing out the word. 14:14 And what He did? We had no insurance. 14:15 Yes. 14:17 We had no insurance in our ministry 14:18 and Lord worked out everything 14:20 from all the surgical amounts of money 14:22 that need to be for me to have my surgery, 14:24 for all the things 14:25 I had to go through after the surgery, 14:27 for all the money to go to Uchee Pines for 21 days 14:30 I was there. 14:31 God took care of everything. 14:33 He said to me, if I can take a coin out of a fish's mouth, 14:37 I can take care of this and He did, 14:39 not one dime that I have to pay. 14:42 And God is a merciful God. 14:44 The plan was in place, we execute a plan. 14:47 And now that maintenance part, right? 14:50 That maintenance part is not only did 14:52 I learn at Uchee Pines, 14:54 along with the additional information 14:55 that you had done in research, 14:56 along with the prayer that was going on, 14:59 all that together was then to execute. 15:02 What are we going to do now after it was over? 15:05 So everything is done. 15:06 I'm back to my doctor's office. 15:08 They're doing blood tests on me. 15:09 They're checking to see what's going on. 15:11 And he says, "You're all clear." 15:14 And I said, "Okay, when you say all clear, 15:16 what do you mean?" 15:17 He said, "You're all clear." 15:19 And I said, "Well, do you mean I'm cancer free?" 15:21 He said, "I cannot say that to you 15:23 because honestly, 15:24 I had nothing to do what you did. 15:26 You decide to go natural, nutrition, 15:28 and all the things you were involved in 15:29 and so I can't say that." 15:31 And so as of this taping that we're doing right now, 15:35 all I can do is give praise on to God 15:37 who is so awesome. 15:38 I believe that my story is a story to help others. 15:41 Yes. 15:42 I believe that the thousands of women 15:44 who have called me, 15:45 men and women with every type of cancer out there, 15:47 my job is to be a mentor, 15:49 my job is to help you in the journey. 15:51 My job is not to tell you what to do 15:53 because that's God's job. 15:55 That's the Father's job. 15:56 But my job is to make sure that you and God are connected 15:59 because if you and God are connected, 16:00 He gives life and He puts you to sleep. 16:02 Yes. 16:04 It's not the doctors, it's not the medicine, 16:05 it's not anything that you're thinking of. 16:07 It's all about Him. It's all about Him. 16:10 And I'm grateful because like I said, 16:11 as of this taping, I am a 12-year survivor. 16:16 Yes. Twelve. 16:17 Praise God for that. 16:19 I'll tell you. Well, He's awesome. 16:20 Yes. He is awesome. 16:21 I remember, I was in a doctor's office 16:24 when he said, I really can't say you're cancer-free, 16:27 but we did the things that we felt God want us to do 16:30 for our treatment. 16:32 And at the 11th month, it was cancer-free. 16:36 He didn't say it at the 11th month 16:38 and we just praise God for that. 16:40 And I think God entrusted us with this cancer. 16:42 I do. 16:43 And we made this public 16:45 on Three Angels Broadcasting Network 16:46 at least three times. 16:47 And there's this open up the floodgates for our ministry 16:49 as far as that's concerned. 16:50 All right, well, our time is all up, 16:52 so I think for sharing, 16:54 I want people to understand that there's a process. 16:56 We've been doing a lot of these shows 16:58 and there is a process, acknowledge 17:01 and they also must be motivated. 17:03 Have a plan, execute, maintain and that's what we didn't 17:08 and want you to do the same thing as well. 17:09 Okay, Honey. And my story is on YouTube. 17:11 That's right, on YouTube, 17:13 just tap in your name, Paula Eakins, 17:14 you see the whole story on YouTube. 17:15 It's on YouTube, 17:17 and I'm always open to talk to individuals. 17:18 I was thinking about a song 17:20 as we're getting ready to go into kitchen 17:21 and it is called "He's Sweet, I Know." 17:23 Oh, I love that song. 17:25 He's... I'm not gonna sing. I know you thought I would... 17:26 No, I'm not singing the song, we'll be going to kitchen. 17:28 Okay, "He's Sweet, I Know" was the name of the song 17:30 and so I was thinking what can we do to a sweet? 17:33 Well, guess what? 17:34 We are going to kitchen 17:36 and we're going to make a dessert. 17:37 We are going to make coconut cookies. 17:39 Get your paper and your pencil, meet us in the kitchen. |
