00:01 The experiments you will see
00:02 have been carefully done by professionals, 00:04 and should not be tried at home 00:05 without parental guidance. 00:06 Please follow the caution signs throughout this program. 00:32 Hey, kids. 00:34 Welcome to Creation is Science 00:36 where we learn lessons about our loving Creator 00:39 through fun experiments and observation. 00:42 I'm excited to be here with Professor Roy. 00:45 Thank you for being here. 00:46 Good to be here. Thank you. 00:48 I think we have something in store for you. 00:49 Are you ready? 00:51 Over here, we have Leah. 00:53 Hi, I'm from Georgia. 00:55 And we have Japheth. 00:56 Hi, I'm from Illinois. 00:58 And Colton. 01:00 I'm from... 01:02 Illinois? Illinois. 01:04 And Jasmine. 01:06 Hi, I'm from Georgia. 01:07 Yay, So we're excited. What do you have for us? 01:09 I think it's about God's hand is over us 01:11 and protecting us. 01:13 What do you have in mind for today? 01:14 Yeah, we've got some interesting things. 01:16 Hi, all, it's nice to meet you kids. 01:18 Thanks for coming to our school, right? 01:20 This is our science school today. 01:22 Now, you know, I brought something with me 01:24 that I think is going to be very, very interesting, 01:27 but you know, I'm gonna need a couple of things 01:29 that are on the shelf. 01:30 So if you go ahead 01:31 and get the things that we, that we mentioned earlier, 01:34 let's see what we've got. 01:35 We've got some practical things that you might have at home, 01:38 but you can't do these experiments at home, 01:40 okay? 01:41 So we're just gonna do them here. 01:43 Thank you. We'll put that down here. 01:44 What we have, we've got a beaker of water. 01:46 Okay. This is good. We'll put that there. 01:48 Thank you. Wow. 01:50 Come on over on this side for me. 01:51 We have a watch. We've got a watch. 01:53 Can you imagine that? We've got a watch. 01:55 We got a candle. 01:57 Wow. We got all kinds of stuff. 01:58 We got a pill bottle. 02:01 Oh, man, and a salt shaker, 02:03 we can, we're gonna have cooking school. 02:06 I'm ready to cook. 02:07 But now I like experiments. 02:09 Let's go for experiments then. 02:10 Well, what I wanna do, 02:12 as I wanted to show you something 02:13 that we use in a laboratory, okay? 02:15 We use this substance in a laboratory 02:17 because it's amazing, okay? 02:20 What's so amazing about this stuff right here 02:23 is that it happens naturally 02:25 and it comes from a plant 02:27 and the plant is called Lycopodium plant. 02:30 It's kind of a very low growing 02:36 or you might see it out in the woods 02:37 if you have it, okay? 02:38 And what I'm gonna do is 02:40 I've got a little spoon right here 02:42 and I'm going to take this spoon. 02:43 I'm gonna put some of it on the spoon 02:47 and I want to get a little close to you 02:48 so you can see it right here. 02:49 Now, can you see that? It's powder. 02:52 Now what's interesting about this powder is 02:54 that it's one of the smallest natural particles 02:57 that we know of. 02:58 Each tiny little particle is so teeny tiny. 03:02 You really can't see one by itself hardly. 03:05 You need to see a whole group of them. 03:06 I'm gonna take my finger right here. 03:08 And I'm just gonna press my finger into that pile. 03:11 Well, what we got, we got a couple that went, 03:13 can you see all those in on my finger? 03:15 There's literally thousands of them on my finger. 03:19 Now what's important about these is 03:21 even they're that teeny tiny 03:24 they're encapsulated or coated with wax. 03:27 Can you imagine that? 03:29 I wonder who created those? 03:33 I can guess. 03:34 You can answer me. God. 03:36 That's right, God. That's right. 03:38 God created those plants to have that, 03:40 that wax coating on the outside. 03:42 And it kind of looks like pollen, doesn't it? 03:45 Yeah. 03:46 When we have pollen in the air, 03:47 but you know, this powder is called Lycopodium powder 03:51 and a long time ago, people would use this. 03:54 They would use it if they got sick. 03:56 Have you ever been sick? Yes. 03:57 Yeah, that happens sometimes. 03:59 They would use this 04:00 and sometimes 04:01 they would actually make tea out of it 04:03 and give it to you to drink, 04:05 to calm your tummy down, right? 04:07 'Cause sometimes we have an upset stomach. 04:08 Interesting. 04:10 Now, if they a little baby at home, 04:11 any of you have a little baby at home? 04:13 No. 04:14 You want a little baby at home? No. 04:16 But if you had a little baby, 04:17 you know what they did with this powder? 04:19 What do you do with powder and a baby? 04:20 You drink it. 04:22 Your powder the baby, don't you? 04:23 So they use it as baby powder. 04:26 How cool is that? 04:28 Now I'm gonna see, 04:29 let's see if you think this is it, 04:31 would it, would this be dangerous? 04:33 No. 04:34 Would you put something dangerous on a baby? 04:36 No. No. 04:37 Would you put something dangerous in your stomach? 04:39 No. 04:40 I don't think so, 04:42 but let's find out if this is dangerous. 04:43 So what I'm gonna do, 04:45 I'm gonna take some of this right here, okay? 04:47 And I'm gonna put some of this 04:49 right in my little dish right here. 04:50 Okay, we're gonna use this as our little watch dish, okay? 04:55 And let's see, we're gonna make a little pile of this here. 04:58 All right, here we go. Okay. 05:01 And Auntie Francine, 05:02 I'm gonna need some help over here. 05:04 Okay. 05:05 And we've got some matches right here 05:06 and we have a candle. 05:08 So should every, anybody have matches? 05:09 Play with matches? No. 05:11 Please don't play with matches. 05:12 We don't play with matches. 05:13 So we'd be very, very careful. 05:15 So what we're gonna do is we're gonna find out, 05:16 we're gonna find out if this will burn. 05:19 You think it'll burn? Yes. 05:21 Would you put something on a baby that would burn? 05:22 No. 05:23 Would you drink something that would burn? 05:25 No. I hope not. 05:26 So if you light a match for me 05:28 and just hand, hand me the match, 05:29 I'm gonna see if it will burn. 05:30 So I'm gonna put this right inside of that powder. 05:33 Did it burn? 05:34 No. No. 05:35 In fact, what happened to the match? 05:37 It went out. 05:38 The match went out. 05:39 So it must be pretty safe, right? 05:41 Yes. 05:42 Well, let's find out. 05:44 Let's find out. 05:45 Hey, you mind 05:46 go ahead and light our little candle for us. 05:48 Okay. Can you do that? 05:49 All right, here we go. 05:51 Now what we're gonna do is 05:52 we're going to misuse this, right? 05:54 All right. 05:56 You can use things for a benefit 05:57 and it will help you. 05:59 But if you misuse things, what could happen? 06:01 Dangerous things could happen. 06:03 Dangerous things could happen. 06:04 So let's find out if this, 06:05 if we're going to have a problem with this. 06:07 So what I'm gonna do is 06:08 I'm gonna put my safety glasses on 06:09 because this just might be important for me. 06:11 I want to protect myself. 06:13 What we're gonna do is 06:14 I'm going to let some oxygen come around right here. 06:16 Let's see what happens. 06:18 I'm just gonna pour some of it right over the flame. 06:20 Are you ready? Okay. 06:21 Give me a countdown, three, two, one, 06:23 three, two one. 06:25 Let's see what happens with this. 06:26 Woo! 06:27 Whoa! 06:32 Did it burn? 06:34 Yeah. Yeah. 06:35 Now that's interesting, 06:36 but it was safe 06:38 if we use it according to what? 06:40 How about directions? Have you read directions? 06:43 Yeah, but that's interesting to me. 06:45 Now, but it didn't burn. 06:47 It didn't burn 06:48 when it was in my hand like this, did it? 06:50 No. 06:51 Do you know what that reminds me? 06:52 Who protects us if we're in His hand? 06:55 God. 06:56 God protects us for eternity, doesn't He? 06:58 That doesn't mean bad things won't happen to us. 07:00 'Cause bad things can happen to us. 07:02 But for eternity, we're safe in God's hands 07:05 to live with Him forever, aren't we? 07:07 That's pretty cool. 07:08 Hey, would you like to see another experiment? 07:10 Yeah. 07:11 I was hoping you'd say that. 07:12 So what we're gonna do is we're going to blow up. 07:14 We're gonna blow our little flame out. 07:15 Let's check this out. 07:16 And what I'm gonna do is I have, I have, let's see. 07:21 Oh, I know what I have. 07:22 I have a little lighter right here 07:27 and I've got a little tube right here 07:28 and it has that same powder inside of it. 07:30 So what would happen if we, if I blew on the little, 07:34 little tube right here 07:35 and I lit the lighter at the same time. 07:38 What do you think would come out? 07:39 Fire. 07:40 Fire? Shall we find out? 07:42 Yes. Okay. 07:43 All right. Shall we find out? 07:45 Okay. So you stay over there. Okay. 07:46 And I'm gonna aim it over here 07:48 and let's see if we can see a little flame thrower. 07:51 All right? Are we ready? 07:53 Okay. 07:54 Let's get a little flame going right here. 07:56 And what you don't wanna do is you don't wanna inhale, okay? 07:59 You just wanna blow out. All right. 08:01 Give me a countdown, y'all. Here we go. 08:03 Three, two, one! 08:08 What happened to that stuff? 08:10 Oh, man. 08:11 Did that ever burn? 08:13 Isn't that interesting? 08:14 But you know, not only is it good 08:16 if you have a baby and you can put, 08:17 you know, baby powder, 08:19 you know, put powder on your baby 08:20 or make a nice drink if you have an upset stomach, 08:22 but you know 08:24 what else they could do with that? 08:25 Even today, they use that substance. 08:27 What is this bottle? 08:28 Pill bottle. 08:30 It's a pill bottle, right? It's a prescription bottle. 08:32 And you know, sometimes what they'll do is 08:33 they'll take pills like this and they'll put the powder. 08:37 They'll coat them 08:38 with a little bit of this powder. 08:39 You know what the powder does. 08:41 It keeps the pills from sticking together. 08:43 So they just don't go into a big old, globally gloop. 08:46 And we don't want that to happen with pills, do we? 08:49 I don't think so. 08:50 Hey, I've got one more thing right here 08:52 that I wanted to show you. 08:54 In fact, I want to give something away. 08:57 Do you like to... 08:59 Do you like things when people give it away, 09:00 you like to get stuff? 09:02 Okay. Here's what I got. 09:03 We got a brand new watch right here 09:05 and I wanna give it away to somebody 09:07 and oh, and it's well, look at it. 09:09 Does it work? 09:10 Looks like it's working, doesn't it? 09:11 So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna give this watch away. 09:15 If any of you can get it out of my beaker. 09:19 Look at my beaker. Let's check this out. 09:21 Get some room over here. 09:23 Here's my little beaker, 09:24 but I'm gonna put it in the beaker, okay? 09:27 Let's see what we got right here. 09:29 There we go. 09:30 Let me make sure that it's in the center. 09:32 There we go. All right. 09:33 Can you see it? Yes. 09:34 All right. So who wants to try first? 09:36 All right. 09:38 Colton, you wanna try? You wanna try? 09:39 Okay. But, you are here. 09:41 You stand right here though. Okay. 09:42 But here's the rules, right? 09:44 You know, there's always rules. Yeah. 09:45 That's right, rules. 09:46 So you got to obey the rules right here. 09:48 So here's the deal. 09:49 You can have the watch. It's a brand new watch. 09:51 Okay. It's waterproof by the way. 09:52 I think a good thing, isn't it? 09:54 All you have to do is to pick it out. Okay. 09:57 With your hands, 09:58 but I don't want your fingers to get wet 10:02 and I don't want you to use anything else to grab it 10:04 and try to, you know, prod it out 10:06 or spoon it out, okay? 10:07 You got it? 10:09 Okay? Okay. 10:11 So think about it in a minute. Okay. 10:12 And give it a try 10:13 and you all will have a chance too, okay? 10:15 So think about how could you do this? 10:16 Oh, I got something in mind. 10:18 How could you do that? 10:19 Hold on. 10:21 You've to use your fingers and you gonna. 10:23 You wanna try it? 10:26 You know, maybe it's the exact angle, 10:27 I don't know. 10:28 Maybe it could, you know, attack it somehow. 10:31 Okay. 10:32 Who else wants to think about it? 10:34 Who? You want to try it? 10:35 Yeah. Yeah, okay. 10:37 Here we go, he's gonna try it. 10:38 There we go. 10:39 Just go ahead and reach in and grab it. 10:42 No, no, no, no, no. 10:44 We don't want to get your lab coat wet either. 10:46 Hurry quick. 10:48 Is this a problem? 10:50 Do you know how to do it? 10:51 No. You want to try it? 10:53 No. No. 10:54 But what happens 10:56 when you put your hand or fingers 10:57 and something that's wet? 10:58 Your fingers or your hand gets wet, right? 11:00 Yeah. Okay. 11:01 But here, you know, I'm gonna show you, all right. 11:03 Is it okay? Yes. 11:04 All right. 11:06 Then I'll get to keep the watch, right? 11:07 Well, I don't know. 11:08 Somebody will figure it out one day or another, 11:10 but what we have right here is we have a salt shaker, right? 11:12 But what do you think is inside of that? 11:15 Is it salt? No. 11:17 What do you think it is? 11:19 It's a Lycopodium powder, right? 11:21 But there's something you don't know about the powder 11:23 that I know. 11:25 Do we know that the powder burns, right? 11:26 Yeah. Oh, yeah. 11:28 We saw the flame thrower, right? 11:30 But there's another very interesting thing 11:31 about the powder. 11:33 All right. 11:34 So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna powder the water. 11:36 You ever powder water? No. 11:38 That sounds crazy, doesn't it? 11:40 So let's go. 11:41 I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna powder the water. 11:43 So let's shake that on the water. 11:45 Here we go. Get that water. 11:47 Does it float? Yes. 11:49 Right, the powder floats, 11:50 the powder absolutely floats on the water. 11:53 And so we're covering the surface of the water 11:55 with a Lycopodium powder. 11:57 Okay. Just like that. 11:59 There we go. All right. 12:02 So you know, you try, you didn't try it yet, right? 12:04 'Cause you are gonna be our first person. 12:06 So I'll tell you what? 12:07 But I can't give you the watch 12:09 because I just said, 12:10 you know, we, we said what the secret was. 12:11 Okay. 12:13 Now be very careful with your two fingers 12:15 and see if you can pick it up. 12:16 And then we're gonna figure out if his hand got wet. 12:18 No, wait a minute. 12:19 How many of you think his hands are gonna get wet? 12:20 If fingers are gonna get wet? 12:22 No, but he's gonna put it in water. 12:23 Okay. Give it a try. Let's give him a countdown. 12:25 Here we go. Three, two, one, go, go slow. 12:28 That's right. Go ahead. 12:29 That's right. Keep going. 12:31 Keep going. Can you see? 12:33 Can you see from the bottom? On the side. 12:34 Okay. There you go. 12:36 And grab it and pull it out. 12:38 Whoa! 12:40 Let's check this out. 12:41 Okay. Let it go right here. 12:42 Let's see. Wait, wait, wait, wait. 12:44 What happened to your fingers? 12:45 Are they wet? No. 12:47 They're all powdery. 12:48 How did they get all powdery? 12:50 What protected his fingers from getting wet? 12:53 Lycopodium powder. 12:54 The powder, right? 12:55 The powder protected his fingers. 12:57 You know, that's interesting to me. 12:59 That's a neat lesson, isn't it? 13:00 Well, the water represents the world. 13:02 You and I are in the world, aren't we? 13:04 But you know, 13:05 who can protect us 13:07 from the bad things of this world? 13:08 God. God can. 13:09 God is like the powder, isn't He? 13:12 He protects us, 13:13 even though we've got to be in this world. 13:15 I liked that about that, isn't that cool? 13:17 Yeah. 13:18 And that wouldn't work except for that what? 13:19 That nice little what? 13:21 Wax coating over each one of those little tiny particles. 13:25 Isn't that cool? That is just so amazing. 13:27 And, Jasmine, 13:29 I think you have a text 13:30 that it reminds me of something about in Psalms... 13:34 Yes. 91. 13:35 Psalms 91:1-2, 13:38 "He that dwells in the secret place 13:40 of the Most High 13:41 shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 13:44 I will say of the Lord, 13:45 'He is my refuge, my fortress, my God, 13:47 in Him I will trust." 13:49 Don't you wanna put your trust in God 13:52 for your protection, 13:53 no matter what circumstances it is? 13:55 I sure do. 13:57 I'm so thankful that, 13:58 you know, even when something is very important, 14:00 I noticed that 14:02 sometimes I have to say, Jesus, please help me. 14:04 I am so excited that 14:06 we can see God's creation all around us 14:09 because creation is science. |
