Hello. 00:55 How are you kids? Good. 00:56 Well, good. You like science? 00:57 Yes. Wow. 00:59 Now what do you like to do best about science? 01:02 Make experiments. 01:04 Learning about different things. 01:05 What was it? Make experiments. 01:07 Experiments? 01:08 Learn about different things. Okay. 01:09 Hey, we've got 01:11 a great experiment today for you. 01:12 What do you like best about science? 01:15 The fun of it. 01:17 The fun of it? Science is fun, isn't it? 01:19 Yeah, it really is fun. 01:21 And what about you? 01:22 Finding things and learning about it. 01:24 You like learning things. 01:26 Yeah, learning is important. 01:27 In fact, you know, we're going to talk about 01:29 learning today, 01:30 because it's really important because we need to all learn. 01:32 And what's your most favorite thing 01:34 about science? 01:36 Finding out things that actually work. 01:38 Oh, finding out things that actually work. 01:39 But you know what? 01:40 You know, sometimes we learn, 01:42 we learn by things that don't work. 01:44 Did you know that? Which is really cool. 01:47 But you know what we're gonna do. 01:48 Today we're gonna talk about memory. 01:51 Did you bring your memory? 01:53 Did you bring your memory? 01:55 Where's your memory? In your brain? 01:57 You left it in the car? What? 01:59 It's in your brain. 02:00 It's in your brain, that's right. 02:01 Our brain, our brain is amazing, isn't it? 02:04 It really, really is. 02:05 But you know, I've got 02:06 something in my pocket right here. 02:08 What's that? A phone? 02:09 It's a phone. 02:11 Now, does a phone have memory? 02:12 Yes. No. 02:13 Yes. I don't know. 02:15 It's got to have some kind of memory, right? 02:17 You ever put phone numbers in a phone? 02:20 Yes. 02:21 Okay, so that's part of the memory 02:22 of the phone, right? 02:24 But here's a question for you. 02:25 And how many of you have a computer at home 02:26 or at school? 02:28 Okay, well, has, have you ever run out of memory 02:31 with a computer? 02:33 Ever run out of memory? 02:34 Is that ever happened to you? Oh, yes. 02:36 Especially on the phone, 02:38 we use everything on your phone. 02:40 And you can't find everybody's phone numbers 02:42 and you don't know them all by heart? 02:43 Oh, that's a big problem. 02:44 That's a big problem, is it? 02:46 So what happens then if you have a computer 02:49 or if you have a phone and it runs out of memory? 02:52 What do you do? You charge it. 02:54 Yeah, you're going to have to, 02:56 maybe trade it in for another phone 02:58 that has more memory, right? 02:59 Or if you have a computer 03:01 maybe sometimes you can get those memory chips, right 03:03 and put more in memory in, right? 03:06 Well, here's the question for you. 03:07 But what happens with your brain, okay, 03:10 because that's our memory right in our brain. 03:12 What happens if we run out of memory in your brain? 03:18 What happens then? 03:20 In fact, has it ever happened? 03:22 No. 03:23 It's never happened? 03:24 It has, I guess I sometimes forget things. 03:27 Well, you know, have you ever, 03:28 have you ever had to learn some things? 03:30 Yeah, we all have to learn things. 03:31 And sometimes you just can't learn anymore 03:34 because you think that your brain 03:36 is too full of stuff, right? 03:39 But you know that, you know what usually happens 03:41 when that happens? 03:42 It means we're just too tired, 03:44 because our brain was designed by whom? 03:47 God. 03:49 God designed our brain, which is very interesting. 03:51 Hey, you know, Hannah, I want you to, 03:53 I've got a head over here. 03:54 Can you go over there 03:56 and pick up our head and bring it over here? 03:57 Okay. 03:59 Because the head is really important. 04:01 And she's going to bring our little brain over here. 04:03 Right, there we go. 04:05 And you can set it right here for me. 04:07 Thank you very much. 04:08 Cool. All right. 04:10 Now I want to introduce you to my friend right here. 04:13 And this is Maria. 04:15 You like Maria? Hi, Maria. 04:16 Hello, Maria. Yeah, that's Maria. 04:19 Now Maria has a head, okay. 04:21 And Maria is going to be our brain today, 04:24 okay, our brain. 04:25 Now what I want you to do 04:27 is I want you to head over there on our shelf. 04:29 We got all kinds of science stuff 04:30 over there. 04:31 And we've got some white pieces of stuff. 04:34 Could you go and get 04:36 one of those white pieces of things 04:37 and bring it on over to the table? 04:38 Go ahead and get yours. 04:40 Go ahead and get one of those white sticks. 04:42 Here we go. 04:43 There we go. Here, let me help you here. 04:45 You can have one. 04:46 All right, and there's one for you 04:48 and there's one for you. 04:49 So we've got these white sticks, okay. 04:52 Now what we want to do 04:54 is we want you to write something down. 04:55 Okay. 04:56 So what are we going to have them 04:58 write down? 04:59 I think we need to write something 05:00 that's really good. 05:02 We can talk about things that we put in our mind 05:04 that's not so good, right? 05:06 Sometimes when we watch TV, 05:07 when we find something's not good. 05:09 I hope you don't sit there and just watch the TV, right? 05:12 And say, oh, this is wild, weird and this is bad. 05:15 But we want to put 05:16 what's in our minds what is good, right? 05:19 So let's write something that's good. 05:20 Can you think of something, Hannah, 05:22 that you want to write that is good 05:23 that you want to put... 05:24 A story? A good story. 05:26 Let's write it down. 05:28 Write good stories. How about you? 05:30 Do you know what you want to write, Ethan? 05:33 A good, good music. 05:35 Good music. Good music, I love good music. 05:37 Now Professor Roy, I think you have a marker 05:39 in your pocket. 05:40 Would you share it with the other group there? 05:41 I have a marker. 05:43 Hey, write down, Nathan, 05:44 do you know what you're going to write? 05:46 Good comics. 05:47 Good comics, okay. 05:48 How about you, Amanda? 05:50 Good friends. 05:51 Good friends, I like that. 05:52 So yes, it's important to put what is in our minds, 05:55 that is really good for us, right? 05:58 And sometimes you have to feed what is good 06:00 because in the Bible, 06:01 it talks about that what we read and what we do, 06:05 and how much time we spend 06:06 because it's easy to spend a lot of time on TV, right? 06:10 You like to spend time on TV? Yes. 06:13 And you're not the only one, 06:14 but sometimes it's better to find a good story 06:17 or a good book. 06:18 Okay, go ahead. 06:21 So I like good stories. I like good books. 06:22 But you know what, you know, I think... 06:24 Mr. Roy, I think... Of comics. I'm sorry. 06:25 Write in nice in book, good comics. 06:29 How do you spell comics? 06:30 Oh, C-O-M-I-C-S. 06:34 So, you know, good books are fun, aren't they? 06:35 They're fun to read. 06:37 But you know, I think that probably 06:38 what we need to do is we need to decide 06:40 which are the best books to read, right? 06:43 Yeah, I think we're going to be reading the best books 06:46 and not just good books, 06:48 but we need to read the best books, right? 06:51 The best things because we need to put 06:53 what's best in our mind, don't we? 06:55 I think we should. 06:56 Okay, so let's see what we got over here? 06:58 Amanda, you've got yours? 06:59 Okay, bring your stick over here. 07:01 Amanda, go ahead. 07:02 Bring your stick, come on right over here. 07:04 Oh, you know what, you know what we're gonna need? 07:05 I think we're going to need somebody 07:07 to protect our eyes today, 07:08 because I got something 07:10 that we don't want to get in our eyes. 07:12 So go ahead and go ahead 07:13 and get your safety glasses over there. 07:16 Now we use safety glasses 07:17 when we're working with chemicals, right? 07:19 We don't want to get that chemical splash in our eyes. 07:21 Sometimes if we're working with glass, 07:23 we don't want things to break. 07:24 Or maybe something is just really sharp, 07:26 we don't want to poke our eyes, right? 07:29 Or if we're using fire, 07:30 we're not going to use fire today. 07:31 But we wear safety glasses 07:33 for all of those purposes, right? 07:35 And those glasses are for yours, 07:37 for you to keep and that will be kind of cool, won't it? 07:39 Okay, so Hannah, bring your stick over here. 07:42 What I want you to do is this. 07:44 I want you to take this in your hand like this. 07:46 And you wrote good stories. 07:48 What I want you to do is I want you to put that, 07:50 I want you to put it right down in her head 07:52 just kind of slow. 07:54 Just go ahead and put it right and maybe with two hands. 07:55 There you go. Easy, easy. 07:57 There you go, Hannah, 07:59 because it takes time to put all of these things. 08:01 You know, it takes time to read doesn't it? 08:02 It really does. 08:04 Takes time to read books, even if they're faster reader. 08:08 There you go. Takes time. 08:09 Wait a minute, wait a minute, what's going on? 08:11 All of those, all of those good things to read. 08:15 It's all going in there. It's all going in here. 08:18 Is it coming out the bottom? 08:20 No, I guess not. That's so neat. 08:23 Not coming out the bottom either. 08:25 Whoa! Excellent. 08:27 Hey, thank you for putting those good books in there. 08:29 Wait, how is he doing it? 08:30 And we've got another one over here. 08:31 Come on over here. 08:33 Nathan, and what did you have? There we go. 08:43 All right, so let's go ahead and let's go ahead 08:45 and put yours in there. 08:46 Okay, just yep, there we go. 08:48 Just gently push it right in here. 08:50 You know, there's all different 08:51 kinds of music, isn't there? 08:52 You know, I love music, you like music? 08:55 You know what music is, 08:56 you know, sometimes music can be 08:58 very, very restful, can it? 09:01 You know, hey, can you think, 09:02 can you think of a king that was, 09:04 it's in the Bible, and he called 09:06 somebody to play some music for him 09:09 because when he would get really upset 09:11 and agitated he would call somebody to play on his what? 09:16 Heart. Heart. Who was that? 09:17 David. It was David that he called. 09:20 And who is the king, you remember? 09:22 King Saul. It was King Saul. 09:25 How cool, you know, and music can do that for our brains, 09:27 can it, and for our whole body? 09:29 That is very interesting. Hey, what did you write? 09:32 Good comics. Okay, good comics. 09:35 Okay, so why don't you go ahead and put that in here. 09:37 Right. There you go. 09:39 I've seen a Bible that was written in comics. 09:41 Oh, that's right. 09:42 I have it and some of the kids when they are witnessing 09:45 with other friends that are non-Christians, 09:48 sometimes that's a good way to read. 09:49 That is a good way. 09:51 And it's very attractive, isn't it? 09:52 It is. 09:53 It's very attractive and easy, slow down, slow down, 09:56 putting it all that in there. 09:58 Interesting, isn't it? Wow. 10:01 And, you know, music is really important. 10:03 And you know, and good books are important, aren't they? 10:06 But you know, I think we ought to be 10:07 what reading best books right 10:10 and listening to the best music, 10:13 because they can really be good for our bodies 10:16 and our mind. 10:17 And we've got one more over here. 10:18 Hey, thank you for doing that. 10:20 What did you put down? So what's the best book? 10:22 What's the name of the best book? 10:23 Bring your friends over here. The Bible, the B-I-B-L-E. 10:26 She wrote down good friends. All right, good friends. 10:29 So go ahead, and let's see 10:31 if we can put our good friends in there. 10:33 Okay, there you go. 10:35 We're going to just put it, yeah, just real nice and easy. 10:38 Look at that, you know, friends are important. 10:41 Now, let me ask you a friend. Do you have a good friend? 10:43 Yes. 10:45 You know, friends are important I think. 10:47 And, you know, would God knew that we needed friends. 10:50 And, you know, who is our best friend 10:54 or who should be our best friend? 10:56 God. 10:57 You know, God should be our best friend, isn't that right? 11:00 That's what you know, sometimes 11:01 God is even closer to us, or should be closer to us 11:04 than our best earthly friend, right? 11:07 You know, God knows us better than anybody else. 11:09 Did you know that? How cool is that? 11:12 And now, you know, can you count how many 11:14 friends you have on your hands? 11:15 Mm-hmm. 11:17 You know, some people can and some people can't. 11:20 But you know what's important? 11:21 What's important is that you and I have 11:23 one very best friend. 11:26 And that's always God, isn't it? 11:28 Well, look at that. 11:29 Now, how can all of those fit in that head? 11:32 I don't know. 11:34 So all the things that you... What did you write in yours? 11:37 Good book. Good books, okay. 11:39 All of the good books, the best books 11:41 are in your brain right now, did you know that? 11:43 It's in your brain. 11:44 And you never forget, you never forget 11:46 what your brain knows which is interesting. 11:48 Sometimes you just can't remember 11:50 what is in your head, but it's in your brain. 11:54 What did you write down? 11:55 Good music. Good music. 11:57 All that music that you and I have been listening 11:59 to is in there someplace, right? 12:01 That's right. 12:02 So let's just listen to the best music 12:04 and that'll help us out. 12:06 And you wrote... 12:07 Good comics. 12:08 Good comics, okay. 12:10 And we even have Bibles that are in the comic format, 12:13 okay, which is very, very appealing to us. 12:15 And that is all in our brain. And you wrote... 12:17 Friends. 12:18 The friends and all of our friends 12:20 and all of our memories are in our brain. 12:22 You know, some people think 12:23 that we're going to run out of memory. 12:25 Is that ever going to happen? No. 12:26 No, you know, because when God created our brain, 12:29 He created them. 12:30 When Jesus created our brain, He created them to do what? 12:33 To never run out of memory. 12:35 We can never run out of memory. 12:37 In fact, scientists tell us today 12:39 that we only use about 1/10 about 10% of our mind, 12:44 isn't that interesting? 12:46 Only 10%. 12:47 And there was a very, very interesting guy 12:49 that lived a long time ago. 12:51 And his name was Albert Einstein, 12:54 there you go and he said this. 12:56 He said, that knowledge takes up no space. 13:00 Isn't that interesting? 13:01 Knowledge takes up no space, all of that knowledge, 13:04 all the things that are in our brain, 13:06 it doesn't take up any space 13:08 because God designed our brain that way, 13:11 isn't that interesting? 13:12 Our brain will last forever and ever. 13:15 So let's just put the very best things in our brain. 13:19 What do you think? 13:20 Well, what do you think? Always learning. 13:22 We always want to learn, don't we? 13:24 Yes. 13:25 I think that's something special. 13:27 Ethan, can you get the Bible on the shelf for me? 13:28 There's a blue Bible on the shelf. 13:30 And let's look at Romans 12 real quick. 13:35 Let's see Romans 12:2. 13:38 And it says, right here, can you help me read it? 13:42 "And do not be conformed to this world, 13:45 but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, 13:48 that you may prove what is that good and acceptable 13:51 and perfect will of God." 13:52 Yes, we want to do the will of God. 13:54 God wants us to continually learn, don't you agree? 13:58 Don't we want to put in our mind 13:59 and continually learn about Jesus? 14:01 I am so thankful that we can learn more about God. 14:04 We can see God's creation all around us 14:06 because creation is science. |
