00:01 The experiments you will see
00:02 have been carefully done by professionals, 00:04 and should not be tried at home without parental guidance. 00:06 Please follow the caution signs throughout this program. 00:33 Welcome to Creation is Science 00:35 where we can learn about our awesome God 00:38 through exploration and science. 00:40 Are you ready? Yes. 00:41 I'm excited, and we have Professor Roy here, 00:45 and we have Hannah, Nathan, Iannah, 00:50 and Amanda and I'm excited. 00:53 I thought I'm a little bit confused here, 00:55 but I thought we were doing something about rainbows, 00:59 but I don't know, 01:00 can you teach me something here? 01:01 Well, you know, I think so. 01:03 Have you ever seen a rainbow? 01:04 Yeah. Okay. 01:06 Have you ever seen a rainbow when it wasn't raining? 01:07 Yeah. No. 01:09 You know, that can happen sometimes, can it? 01:12 But there's gotta be something in the air. 01:14 What has to be in the air? Color. 01:17 Color, color is in the air 01:18 because rainbow gives us a color, 01:19 but we have to have what else? 01:21 We've got to have water in the air. 01:23 Droplets I think so, yeah. That's exactly right. 01:26 Now, let's see what we're going to do here. 01:28 What I have is I have a little pencil. 01:29 I'll put my pencil in the water. 01:31 Okay, like that. Okay. 01:32 And if you can look at it 01:34 from an angle from maybe where you are? 01:36 Okay. 01:37 And does it look like the pencil is broken? 01:39 Yeah. 01:41 Or maybe the pencil is bent in some way? 01:43 Yeah. Okay. But you know what? 01:44 The pencil is not broken and the pencil is not bent. 01:46 It's straight, isn't it? 01:48 But when we put it in the water, 01:49 what does the water do to the pencil? 01:53 It refracts. Yeah, it refracts it. 01:57 Okay, it's right. It bends the light. 01:58 So the light is being bent by the water. 02:00 And that's why we see a rainbow because the rainbow, 02:03 the water that's in the rainbow is refracting. 02:06 It's bending the light. 02:08 Now, but why, how did colors come from light anyways? 02:13 It comes from the bending of light 02:16 that the water does. 02:18 Now, I've got something right here. 02:19 Now this is a magnet. 02:21 I can put it on my table, but what color is that? 02:24 Red. It's red, okay. 02:26 Now why do we call it red? Because it's red in color. 02:29 Did somebody train us? 02:31 Did somebody train you the, 02:33 and said, now that color is red, right? 02:35 Did anybody teach you that? Yes. 02:37 That's right, we were taught our colors, right? 02:39 Just like we're taught our multiplication tables 02:41 and the alphabet, we were taught our colors. 02:44 Well, that is red, 02:46 but you know, I don't know what color it really is. 02:48 Do you know that? 02:50 I don't know what color that really is. 02:52 All I know is this, that when you and I, 02:54 when we look at that, 02:56 all I'm seeing is the wavelengths 03:00 of red color coming back and hitting me in the eye. 03:04 That's all I'm seeing, ain't that cool? 03:05 Yeah. 03:06 So I don't know exactly what colors will make. 03:09 Just the red frequency, 03:10 bounce off of it and hit me in the eye. 03:12 But I love color. 03:14 And that's what happens to all of our colors. 03:16 And that's what we're going to do outside. 03:18 We're going to try to make a, uh, a rainbow. 03:21 It may be in a couple of different ways 03:23 and see the refraction. 03:24 And maybe even the reflection 03:26 of light through water particles. 03:29 You ready? 03:30 Are you ready out there? Let's go. 03:33 Come, follow me. Let's go. 03:36 Have you ever looked at yourself? 03:38 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 03:40 What do we usually use in order to look at ourselves? 03:42 What do we use? A mirror. 03:43 We use a mirror, can't we? 03:45 Okay. Or maybe a camera, right? 03:46 You can take a picture of yourself or maybe do a, 03:48 what do they call it? 03:49 A selfie. That's interesting, isn't it? 03:52 Well, I have some very interesting mirrors. 03:54 In fact, this mirror right here. 03:56 If we look at this surface right here, 03:58 it's very, very flat. 03:59 You put your hands, right? Can you feel how flat it is? 04:02 It's very, very flat, 04:03 but if you turn the mirror over, 04:05 it has another mirror. 04:07 Now feel the mirror, is it concave? 04:10 Yeah. It's concave. 04:11 And this one right here is even more concave. 04:14 In fact, it looks like a bowl. Look, it's all dished in. 04:18 When you look at yourself 04:20 with a mirror that happens to be flat, okay. 04:23 And then if you look at yourself 04:25 with a mirror that happens to be what? 04:28 Concave. 04:29 So here, so take this mirror, look at yourself. 04:31 Okay. 04:33 And then turn it over and look at yourself 04:35 and see how you would look. 04:37 If you used a concave mirror, what happens to your face? 04:42 Did you see yourself? Did it get bigger? 04:43 Bigger and smaller. 04:45 Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's right. 04:46 So it changes your image. 04:48 So a mirror then reflects your image, doesn't it? 04:52 It reflects our image. That's interesting. 04:54 You know, as Christians, 04:55 are we supposed to reflect something? 04:57 Yes. 04:58 What are we supposed to reflect? 04:59 God's love. God's love. 05:01 Hey, that's cool, isn't it? 05:02 But you know, we can do, we can reflect the sunlight. 05:06 Now, would that be cool to reflect the sunlight? 05:07 Yes. 05:09 It really would, 05:10 so we've got another experiment here. 05:11 Come on over here. Let's see what we got. 05:13 Now stand, stand right here, stand right over here. 05:16 Now what I have is I've got, whoa, man, what? 05:19 Wow. Did you see? 05:20 Oh man, I've got what's happening too? 05:22 What's happening? Is it, are you getting shine? 05:25 Yeah. 05:26 So what's happening is 05:27 we're reflecting the sunlight. 05:29 Yeah. 05:31 We're reflecting the sunlight with a mirror. 05:33 Okay. 05:34 And the sun hits the mirror 05:36 and when the sun hits the mirror, 05:38 it reflects, okay, the sunlight back. 05:41 Well, what we're going to do 05:42 is we're going to try 05:43 to get the image to change colors. 05:46 Would that be cool? Yeah. 05:48 Okay. Have you ever seen a rainbow? 05:50 Yeah. Okay. 05:51 Can you, uh, what are all the colors 05:52 of the rainbow are there? 05:54 Can you mention some of them? 05:55 Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. 05:57 Yeah. 05:58 All of those colors, which is interesting. 06:00 And all of them have the right way to go 06:03 because they're always lined up in the same order. 06:06 Now, that's interesting. 06:08 What I'm going to do 06:09 is I'm going to put this down in the water. 06:10 Okay. 06:12 And what's going to happen is the sunlight 06:13 is going to reflect off of the mirror 06:16 and then the water is going to bend 06:18 or, uh, refract the light. 06:22 And it's going to break up the white light into colors 06:24 because you know 06:26 what colors come from white light? 06:27 Did you know that? 06:28 Do you know where all the colors come from? 06:30 No. 06:31 They come from white light 06:32 and our sun happens to give us white light. 06:35 So let's see what we can do right here. 06:36 Now, let's see. 06:38 Can you, why don't you stand right there and turn, 06:40 okay, and turn around. 06:41 Well, okay. You can stand right there. 06:42 What we're going to try to do. Okay. 06:44 Oh no, no, no. We want him right here. 06:46 I want him right in front of the mirror. 06:48 Oh! Right in front of the mirror. 06:49 What we've got and you might want to 06:51 close your eyes a little bit 06:52 'cause it was going to get kind of interesting. 06:54 Okay. 06:55 And what we're going to try to do 06:56 is we're going to try to get a rainbow to show... 06:59 Oh, wow. What! 07:01 On his clothes. Okay. 07:03 There you go. 07:05 Here, move that way just a little bit. 07:06 Okay. Well, right there. Wow! 07:10 So, we've got some rainbow colors 07:12 on his lab coat. 07:15 Where did those colors coming from? 07:17 Sunlight and the water. 07:19 They're coming from the sunlight. 07:20 The sun has all of the colors in it. 07:23 Here, why don't you change places, everybody. 07:25 We want everybody to have a turn 07:27 and see if we can get that light on there. 07:29 So move so that it's right. Okay. 07:31 Move over a little bit over this way. 07:33 Okay. All right, here we go. 07:35 All right. There we go. 07:36 Let's check this out. Wow. 07:38 That's pretty. Whoa. 07:40 Now, okay. Who else can we shine this on? 07:44 Okay. All right. There we go. 07:45 Let's see what we got. Wow. 07:47 See all those colors. 07:50 That's pretty cool, isn't it? You're ready? 07:53 Who hasn't got the rainbow on their coat? 07:56 Go ahead. Okay. 07:58 You moved out. You're gonna have to move. 07:59 Okay. There you go. 08:02 That's awesome. Is that interesting? 08:04 Yes. Now, okay. 08:05 Just stay. Just stay right there. 08:07 And everybody had a turn? Yeah. 08:08 You know, there was a man that lived a long time ago, 08:10 Sir Isaac Newton. 08:12 And Sir Isaac Newton, 08:14 he said that he thought that white light came from the sun. 08:18 A lot of people, they didn't know. 08:19 They didn't know 08:21 where the different colors came from. 08:22 He said, it's coming 08:23 from the sunlight, the white light. 08:25 So he did an experiment long time ago. 08:26 He put white light through a prism. 08:30 And the prism turned all of that 08:32 white light into the colors of the rainbow. 08:35 And people said, Oh wow, look at that. 08:37 He was right. 08:38 All the colors do come from the sun and white light. 08:42 And then, you know what he did? 08:44 He took all of those colors 08:46 and he put them all through a prism again. 08:49 And what do you think came out the other side? 08:50 Rainbow. 08:52 White light came out the other side. 08:54 How cool is that? 08:56 The rainbow was on him. That's right. 08:58 So he made a rainbow, didn't he? 08:59 Cool. 09:01 Now, if you have ever seen a rainbow, 09:02 in fact, you know what? 09:04 I think, uh, I think Aunt Francine, I think. 09:06 Oh, yeah. 09:07 She was going to try to make a rainbow 09:08 by using some water. 09:10 So here, let's check this out. 09:11 Let's see what she's gonna do. 09:13 She's got a garden hose over there. 09:15 Let's see what she's going to do with a garden hose. 09:17 Let's see if I can do it. Have you ever tried this? 09:19 No. I don't know. 09:22 Oh. Oh, you stand right where I am. 09:24 You can see it. Come over next to me. 09:27 I can see it. Can you see it? I don't know. 09:29 Yeah, there is a rainbow right here. 09:33 Wow! It's right there. 09:36 You see it? Yeah. 09:38 Right over here. Rainbow has to be just right. 09:40 It has to be just right. So come see it's over there. 09:43 It's still here. Let's bring it closer. 09:46 Oh, wow. 09:49 Let's take some time to try to do that, right? 09:53 That is kind of fun how we have time to do that. 09:56 So when you're in the sprinkler system, 09:58 have you ever tried to do that? 09:59 Have you ever tried to make a rainbow? 10:01 Yes. What does that remind me of? 10:03 God's promise. 10:05 God's promise says, 10:06 I'm going to say, go ahead and put off the water. 10:07 You're right. God's promise is for everyone. 10:10 And I love rainbows. 10:12 Now, God, I'm so thankful that 10:14 God didn't make this whole world just one color. 10:18 I am so glad that we have eyes that many of us, 10:21 most of us can see different colors. 10:23 What's your favorite color Iannah? 10:25 Red. What's your favorite color? 10:27 Purple. What? Purple. 10:29 Oh, I like that. How about you? 10:30 Aqua. Aqua. 10:32 Ooh. Now you're very specific. 10:33 How about you, Amanda? 10:35 Um, blue. Blue. 10:37 How about you, Abednego? Yellow. 10:39 Yellow, we all have different colors 10:41 and sometimes my favorite color 10:43 used to be pink when I was little. 10:45 And now my favorite color is maybe burgundy 10:47 and sometimes I like hunter green. 10:49 We all have different colors, but can you imagine 10:52 if the world was just all green? 10:54 No, God made our world in a beautiful way 10:58 because He made different colors, 11:00 and I'm so glad that 11:01 we have different colors of rainbows 11:04 and different things that 11:05 we can see because God made things so beautiful. 11:07 And even here, you know, 11:09 it makes me think of another song 11:11 that God said red or yellow, black or white, right? 11:14 We're all precious in whose sight? 11:16 His. Jesus. His sight. 11:18 Have any of you studied about how the, 11:21 um, clouds are formed up in the sky? 11:24 Yeah. Yeah. 11:25 They evaporate. How do they form? 11:27 Do you want to talk about that a little bit? 11:28 Well, I think there's droplets of rain in the air, right? 11:31 They're making little prisms right up in the sky. 11:34 So that's what's happening, whenever you see a rainbow, 11:36 like sometimes I've seen two rainbows 11:38 and one time I even got to see three rainbows. 11:40 Wow. 11:41 There was like one here, 11:43 one up this way and one up this way. 11:44 And it was just, but you know what? 11:47 Have you ever tried to take a picture of a rainbow? 11:49 Yeah. Does it work? 11:51 No, even these cameras, 11:53 they can't do the justice that we actually see. 11:56 And that's the same way. 11:57 Even when I'm snorkeling or scuba diving, 11:59 have any of you gone underwater 12:01 and looked with your lenses underwater? 12:02 Yeah. 12:04 Sometimes we can't see, it doesn't look as pretty 12:07 because of all the colors that God has created, right? 12:10 We want to see those colors. 12:11 And I'm so thankful that 12:13 God has given us so many different colors. 12:16 And so when you think about the rainbow, 12:19 hopefully you get to see rainbows. 12:21 Has it been a while since you've seen a rainbow? 12:22 Yes. 12:23 It reminds me of different things in the Bible. 12:25 What's a Bible story that you can think of a rainbow? 12:29 Noah's ark. 12:30 Noah's ark is a really good one. 12:32 And what was that promise again? 12:33 I know we talked about it before. 12:34 God will never forsake again. 12:36 I am so thankful that 12:37 God has given us so many promises 12:41 and that He shows His love through the rainbow. 12:44 I can't wait to see Jesus. How about you? 12:46 Yeah, you're ready to go inside 12:47 'cause I'm getting a little hot. 12:51 Oh, that was so wonderful. I love seeing rainbows. 12:55 How about you? You're excited? 12:57 Yeah. I have definitely been excited. 12:59 Now, I don't know about you. 13:01 That was pretty. That was pretty. 13:02 It was. 13:04 I liked remembering how God thinks 13:05 that we're so beautiful in His image 13:07 and those droplets. 13:09 I have something in my pocket. Oh, cool. 13:11 I think I thought of something here. 13:15 What'd you think of? I don't know. 13:17 I'm thinking, what do you see? Do you see a rainbow? 13:19 Yes. It's on the disc. 13:20 Pass it up. 13:22 How many of you if ever seen a CD or DVD disc like that? 13:25 Have you done that? Yes. 13:27 I have too. 13:28 I think it's kind of neat because we think about what? 13:31 Again, what do we think of? God's promise. 13:34 God's promise. 13:35 What was that promise again in the Bible? 13:37 Never flood the earth. To never flood the earth. 13:40 God's Word is always true. And I'm so thankful. 13:43 And I love seeing those rainbows 13:45 and those colors. 13:46 I like how you were talking 13:48 about these different colors that we see. 13:49 And I'm so thankful that God made wonderful, 13:53 different colors for us. 13:54 Aren't you? Yeah. Yeah. 13:56 So what's your favorite part of the rainbow? 13:59 The colors. 14:00 The colors, the variety of colors. 14:02 I wouldn't want everything to be the same. 14:04 No. We can see God's creation 14:07 all around us because creation is? 14:10 Science. Yay! 14:13 Bye! |
