00:01 The experiments you will see
00:02 have been carefully done by professionals, 00:04 and should not be tried at home 00:05 without parental guidance. 00:06 Please follow the caution signs throughout this program. 00:32 Hi, kids, welcome to Creation is Science. 00:35 We are so glad you could join us. 00:37 I have Professor Roy here, 00:39 Noelia, Adrian, Kadence, and Jafet. 00:43 Would you like to join us and see what we're doing today? 00:45 I can't wait to find out what you have. 00:48 I'm already getting hungry. 00:49 I think my stomach was starting to grow 00:50 when I saw this food. 00:52 Yeah. Y'all like food. 00:53 Yes. 00:54 Well, you know, we should eat 00:56 a lot of different kinds of foods, 00:57 shouldn't we? 00:59 Yeah, we really should. 01:00 You know, today we're going to be talking about 01:01 pH and pH has to do with foods 01:04 that are very acidic or acidy. 01:06 Okay. 01:07 And foods that are alkaline or basic, 01:09 which is interesting. 01:10 And we've got some things like this, 01:12 what's comes in bottles like that? 01:14 Water. Water, right? Water. 01:16 Okay. 01:17 Now water has a pH too, 01:19 and most things have pH 01:21 and water has a pH of about seven 01:23 at room temperature, 01:24 but let's look at some foods like this right here. 01:26 We got a banana, we have some grapes, 01:28 we got some other fruit right here 01:30 and they're acidic, okay? 01:32 So they have more acid in them, 01:33 which is interesting to me. 01:35 And we want to be able to... 01:38 What about your stomach? 01:39 Do you have acid in your body? 01:41 Oh, yes. We do. 01:43 And we have some, we have stomach acid, don't we? 01:45 Now stomach acid is a very, very strong acid. 01:47 It has an acidity rating of zero. 01:51 And something with zero is very, very high acidic. 01:54 Okay, very, very acidy. 01:56 And 14 is way on the other scale, 01:58 which is a basic food or an alkaline food. 02:01 Interesting, isn't it? 02:02 So your stomach acid, 02:04 hydrochloric acid, it has a pH of zero. 02:08 It's very, very strong. 02:09 It's the strongest acid that we know of just about. 02:11 And what do you suppose that stomach acid does? 02:15 Right, it breaks down our food, doesn't it? 02:16 The things that we eat, it breaks down our foods, 02:19 which is interesting, isn't it? 02:20 They can also help if we take in something like 02:24 maybe a germ or something, that on our food, 02:26 it can destroy it. 02:28 It's very, very strong. 02:29 So do we want to eat foods 02:31 that are very, very acidy all the time? 02:32 No. 02:34 No, we want to have a variety because we need that variety. 02:37 So the best way to have a variety of eating 02:39 is to eat a different variety of foods 02:42 and different colors of foods, in that interesting? 02:45 If you're eating the same foods over and over again, 02:47 that's probably not the best diet, 02:49 but we need a variety. 02:51 What we're talking about all of that, 02:52 you know what we could do, 02:54 we could do an experiment, couldn't we? 02:55 I can't wait to see you having experiment for us. 02:57 Let's do an experiment by using some acids 02:59 and some basis. 03:01 That would be kind of cool, wouldn't it? 03:03 But we got to know what we have. 03:05 And so we need some kind of an indicator 03:07 to kind of tell us if we have an acid or a base, 03:11 and that's what we're going to do today. 03:12 So I think we probably ought to put 03:13 your what? 03:15 Safety glasses. 03:16 Let's put your safety glasses on. 03:18 Okay, here we go. 03:19 And what I have right here is I have a beaker 03:22 and that beaker 03:24 has a combination of different things. 03:25 It has some ammonia in it, right? 03:28 You have ammonia at home? 03:30 Say yes. Say yes. 03:31 Yes. 03:33 Because we have 03:34 a lot of household cleaners, right? 03:35 And household cleaners, they can have ammonia in them, 03:37 but it's a very, very strong, very, very strong. 03:39 So this is ammonia mixed with some water. 03:42 And so what we're going to do 03:44 is we're going to add something to it 03:46 and we're going to add something to it. 03:48 And what we're going to add is an indicator for pH. 03:51 It's going to let us know 03:53 if we have something that's very acidic 03:56 or something that's very alkaline 03:58 or a basic. 03:59 Okay? All right. So here we go. 04:01 What I'm going to do? 04:02 Here, why don't you go ahead... 04:03 Okay, pass them out. 04:05 And pass those out. All right. 04:06 Okay. 04:07 These are little pipettes 04:09 and the pipette has an indicator of pH 04:10 and that indicator is called phenolphthalein. 04:13 Can you say that? 04:15 Phenolphthalein. There we go. 04:17 What I want you to do is where can it represent 04:21 the droplets of phenolphthalein. 04:23 That's going to be... Oh, what could that be? 04:26 Oh, I know what, it could be our sins. 04:27 It could represent our sins. 04:29 Now, have you ever sinned? 04:31 You know, everybody have sinned 04:32 on the face of this earth, right? 04:33 The Bible said everybody sinned and come short of God's glory. 04:37 So those little drops that you're going to be putting 04:39 in this liquid right here is going to represent our sins, 04:43 because everybody sinned, your grandma, your grandpa, 04:46 Aunt Francine has sinned, I have sinned, 04:49 everybody have sinned on the face of this earth. 04:51 And that's why Jesus came to this earth, right? 04:54 Take care of that problem of sin. 04:56 Right. So what do we have in here? 04:58 We have, we've got ammonia, 04:59 which is a cleaning agent that we have. 05:02 And we also have some water in there as well. 05:04 So I'm going to come by over here 05:06 and let's see, turn your pipette right side up 05:09 or upside down. 05:10 There you go, 'cause we want to make 05:12 some droplets right here. 05:13 So we're going to turn it like this. 05:15 Okay. But don't squeeze it yet. 05:16 Why don't you put two drops in there? 05:19 Just squeeze it very lightly. One. 05:21 Two. 05:22 Two, what's happening to this liquid? 05:25 Can you see a change? 05:26 Why don't you put a couple in there too? 05:28 One. Oh. 05:30 One, two. That's right. 05:32 And that represents our sins 05:34 because we've all come short of God's glory 05:36 and we've all sinned, 05:38 and what's happening to that clear liquid? 05:42 Oh, there we go. 05:44 We have a nice squirt in there 05:45 that clear liquid is turning colors, isn't it? 05:47 That's right. 05:48 Because you know what? 05:50 Sin does change us, doesn't it? 05:51 It absolutely changes us. 05:53 And then go ahead and put some more in there. 05:54 Put a couple more drops 05:56 of the phenolphthalein in there. 05:58 And it's turning red, 05:59 is turning kind of pinkish in color 06:01 and you can go ahead and do the same thing 06:03 because we're actually that, 06:06 that liquid inside of the container is a base. 06:11 It's a base 06:12 because we have ammonia and water. 06:14 And that's the basic, 06:15 look at what's happening to our liquid. 06:16 That's interesting. 06:18 I'm going to go ahead and stir this up. 06:19 And now that clear, clear, clear liquid 06:22 is turning pink, isn't it? 06:24 It's turning pink. Okay, here. 06:25 Why don't you grab? 06:26 Go ahead, put another drop in. There you go. 06:29 There you put another drop in there 06:30 and what's happening to it? 06:32 It's turning pink. 06:33 The Bible also says 06:34 that our sins are scarlet, aren't they? 06:37 You want your sins to be as white as snow? 06:40 Yes. 06:41 Would that be like our sins being gone? 06:43 It would, wouldn't it? 06:44 Well, how does that work anyways? 06:46 Well, let stir this all up 06:47 and that's a nice pink color, isn't it? 06:49 But you know, that represents our sin. 06:51 I don't want sin in my life. 06:53 You want sin in your life? 06:55 I don't want sin to rule me at all. 06:57 So we've got to get rid of this thing called sin. 06:59 We got to get rid of that pink color. 07:01 So that's the what? 07:03 It's very basic, isn't it? 07:04 So how do we get rid of something that's basic? 07:07 Should we add an acid to it? 07:10 Let's find out if we can do that. 07:11 And if we can do that, if we can make that color, 07:14 go back to clear again, 07:15 then we can probably get to something 07:17 that's very, very neutral, okay? 07:19 Like our body, your body, and my body 07:21 where we've a pH of about 7 or 7.4. 07:26 That's where we want to be. 07:27 We don't want to be too acidic. 07:29 You want to be too acidic? 07:30 I mean, 07:32 what would battery acid do to your body? 07:34 If you just took a bath in battery acid, 07:36 what would it do to us? 07:37 Burn your body. 07:38 It would destroy us, isn't it? It would. 07:40 So we don't want to be too acidic. 07:42 We don't want to be too basic. 07:43 We want to be what? 07:45 Right in the middle, okay? 07:46 We want to be neutral. 07:47 So let's see what we can do. 07:49 I've got some liquid in here. 07:51 This is a clear liquid, 07:52 but this liquid is also vinegar. 07:55 And do you eat, do you eat vinegar? 07:57 No. What? 07:59 You don't eat vinegar? 08:00 You don't eat acid. 08:01 Vinegar is an acid, isn't it? 08:03 You put acid on your food. Yes. 08:05 So what kind of acid do you put in your food? 08:07 Lemons. 08:09 Lemons. Oh yeah. 08:10 What about... I love lemons. 08:11 Yeah. How about salad dressing? 08:13 Salad dressings have vinegar in it too. 08:15 So whenever we have 08:16 a very, very, very, very strong vinegar 08:18 and it's a vinegar 08:20 and it's mixed with about water about 5%. 08:23 And so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to go out, 08:24 I'm gonna pour some of this in there. 08:26 Now this is going to represent somebody that is pure. 08:30 His whole life was pure. 08:32 He never sinned at all. 08:34 And He came to this earth to save us from our sins. 08:38 And who was that? 08:39 God. It's Jesus. 08:41 That's right, Jesus Christ. 08:42 And He gave His life 08:44 so that you and I could be saved, right? 08:47 So let's go ahead and do that. 08:49 So He gave His life, He lived on this planet. 08:52 He lived a very, very good life. 08:56 No one was as good as He. 08:59 What happened to all that? 09:02 And that's exactly 09:04 what He can do for you and for me. 09:06 You want your sins to be washed away? 09:09 I want my sins to be washed away 09:10 and He can do that. 09:12 You know, it says that 09:13 Jesus could not save Himself and save us. 09:17 He couldn't do both. 09:18 And so what did He do? 09:20 Did He, what did He sacrifice? 09:22 He sacrificed Himself, didn't He? 09:25 In order so that you and I 09:27 could have salvation through Him. 09:29 How about that? 09:30 And Jesus didn't come into this earth 09:32 to condemn us. 09:33 You like people that condemn you? 09:35 I don't like people that condemn me. 09:37 No, not at all. 09:38 Jesus said, I didn't come to condemn you. 09:40 He says, I came to do what? 09:42 Redeem you. Save us from our sins. 09:45 And that's exactly what He did. 09:46 Hey, wasn't that fun to use those examples? 09:47 That was, I just love how God can clean our sins. 09:51 I'm so thankful you want to put that away. 09:54 But you know what? 09:55 That reminds me of so many things 09:57 that we can confess our sins, right? 10:00 And he's just, I don't like people saying, 10:02 "Oh, you did this wrong. 10:03 You did this along when they are mean about it. 10:05 Have you seen some people that tell you 10:07 when you've done something wrong 10:08 and they were nice about it. 10:10 And then somebody else might say the same thing 10:12 about what you did wrong, 10:13 but say it in a nice way. 10:15 That makes a big difference, right? 10:16 When somebody is your friend and they come to you 10:18 and they do it in a loving way, 10:20 and that's what we want to do with others. 10:21 We want to be able to share something in a loving way. 10:25 So it's good to help support each other, 10:27 but finding a good things. 10:29 And with this acid, yes, we want something. 10:32 And that reminds me that even having good thoughts, 10:35 we were talking about healthy diets here, right? 10:39 But our thoughts also what we put in our mind, 10:42 also they have had lots of studies 10:44 and they say also that what your thoughts, 10:46 good thoughts also changed the chemical in your brain. 10:49 Did you know that? 10:51 That's right. And you have good thoughts. 10:52 And so the more good thoughts you have, 10:54 the more you're putting in good things. 10:56 And that helps your body fight even diseases. 10:59 That's kind of amazing how God made our bodies 11:02 in such a way that we want a variety. 11:04 That's right and variety is good, isn't it? 11:06 It is good. 11:07 We've got fruits and nuts right here. 11:08 But you know, I don't have 11:10 any vegetables on the table, but... 11:11 We need more green vegetables. 11:13 We gotta have more vegetables. 11:14 That's right. That's right. 11:16 God wants us to have. 11:17 And what is spiritual food that we can put into our body? 11:20 Because it's kind, we want a balance. 11:22 What kind of spiritual things can we do 11:25 that also help us and our mind focus on God? 11:29 What kind of things can we do? 11:31 Can you think of anything?" 11:32 Praying? 11:34 Praying. That's right. 11:35 Anything else? Reading the Bible? 11:36 Reading the Bible, 11:38 can you think of something else? 11:39 Spending more time with Jesus. 11:40 Spending more time with Jesus. 11:42 How about, you, Noelia, can you think of something? 11:44 Doing outreach? 11:45 Doing outreach, I love that. Excellent. 11:47 And even singing outside, 11:48 going outside, but you're right. 11:50 Once we take in these, 11:52 we want to go out into the world, right? 11:54 And be that light for Jesus. 11:56 Reminds me of a text in our Bible. 11:58 Can you find a Bible text for me? 12:00 Can you grab the Bible for me? 12:01 And I think it's Psalms 51:2. 12:06 Can you help me read that nice and clearly, 12:12 because I think that ties into what we're doing today. 12:14 What is it? 12:16 "Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, 12:19 and cleanse me from my sin." 12:22 So, do you know what that word iniquity means? 12:24 It means 12:25 that you are full of sin, right? 12:27 We're sinful, every day I make a mistake 12:30 and I say, Lord, when I go down and I pray at night, 12:33 what do I need to say? 12:34 I'm sorry. Forgive me, Lord. 12:36 I know I made a mistake today. 12:37 I did this and I did this, 12:39 but I know that you can forgive me. 12:41 And I'm so glad 12:42 that God is willing to forgive us. 12:44 Do we have to be sorry? 12:45 Well, we need to be sorry for our sin. 12:47 And hopefully that means that you want to have 12:49 a change of heart. 12:50 That's right. Okay. 12:51 And sometimes we still make the same mistake. 12:53 Do you make the same mistake? 12:55 Like, and you know, sometimes that, 12:57 those are things that sometimes we have to work on, 13:00 but that's okay because God forgives us, right? 13:02 He does. 13:03 And we want to have that balance. 13:04 But going out in nature, spending time in prayer, 13:07 spending time in the Bible, 13:09 those are things that we can put in 13:11 that help us and have a good attitude, 13:13 a good heart like Jesus. 13:15 I'm so thankful for that. 13:16 Absolutely, yeah. Yeah. 13:17 And let's, don't forget about eating variety of foods. 13:21 And not only sugar and chocolate. 13:22 No. Oh, no. 13:24 We don't want that 13:25 because that wouldn't be a good balance, wouldn't it? 13:27 No, it wouldn't. 13:28 No, and don't forget your vegetables, 13:29 okay, fruits, nuts, and vegetables. 13:31 They're all things 13:32 that God had prepared for us, right? 13:34 He prepared 13:35 a very, very balanced diet for us, 13:37 but we've got to make sure 13:38 that we do the variety of foods. 13:40 You are right. 13:41 So you constantly want to eat and live for Jesus 13:44 that you can be out in the world 13:46 and in the community. 13:48 Can you do that for me? 13:50 We can see God's creation all around us 13:52 because creation is? 13:54 Science. 13:56 Who's ready to dive into some of this food? 13:57 You want some grapes and some nuts? 13:59 How about some berries? Anybody like berries? 14:01 Anybody want some? 14:02 Those are great berries. There's an apple too. 14:03 I'm going to grab some. Organic too. 14:06 That is just awesome. 14:08 Don't forget to eat a balanced diet. |
