00:08 "The Carter Report" presents,
00:10 The Living Word around the world. 00:17 Hello, friend, I'm John Carter. 00:19 Welcome today to the Carter Report. 00:21 Today we're talking about, the Little Pastor. 00:24 The story of the young man 00:26 who was in the midst of one of the greatest bloodbaths 00:30 in the history of that nation. 00:32 Did you know, 75,000 people were murdered in El Salvador 00:39 and this man, the Little Pastor 00:41 was right in the very midst of it all? 00:44 Welcome today, to the Carter Report. 00:49 Hi, I'm John Carter. 00:52 I guess the toughest place that I've ever been to 00:55 as far as the preaching of the gospel is concerned, 00:58 is India, home to more than a billion souls. 01:04 And I guess, hundreds of millions of different gods. 01:08 It almost overwhelms the senses. 01:12 What can we do? 01:13 Well, we've been to India, we've run outdoor meetings, 01:16 we've had thousands and thousands of people, 01:19 Hindus, Muslims at our meetings coming forward in altar calls. 01:24 But we're going to try to do something else as well. 01:27 We're going to start small. 01:29 We are starting with the program called, 01:32 "Touching the untouchables." 01:35 And we're going to start with little untouchable goals. 01:38 We're doing this now. 01:40 We're getting them food because they are so hungry, 01:43 it's hard to come to Jesus when you are hungry 01:46 and so we're getting them food 01:49 and we'll be sending them to school. 01:51 We are trying to feed their souls 01:54 and fill their bellies in India, 01:58 home to more than a billion souls 02:02 and hundreds of millions of gods controlled by evil spirits. 02:07 Please help us in this work. Please help us. 02:10 Write to me, John Carter, Post Office Box 1900, 02:14 Thousand Oaks, California, 91358 02:17 or write to me at Terrigal, in Australia. 02:20 We have an Australian office as we have an Indian office, 02:25 where somebody there working full-time 02:27 trying to touch the untouchables 02:31 with the love of Jesus. 02:33 Please write to me today. 02:36 And Jesus said, "I've come to seek and to save 02:41 that which was lost." 02:50 Our guest today comes from El Salvador, 02:53 a beautiful land 02:54 with a terrible history of bloodshed. 02:57 His name is Pastor Pacheco, 03:01 the leader of the Adventist church 03:03 in that part of the world. 03:06 Our translator is Pastor Carlos Acosta, 03:11 the senior pastor 03:12 of the Spanish American Adventist Church 03:15 in Southern California. 03:18 Welcome today, Gentlemen, to the program. 03:20 Thank you very much. 03:21 Welcome, Pastor, Pastor Pacheco. 03:24 Gracias. Gracias. 03:26 We're so glad that you were able to come 03:28 to this part of the world from El Salvador 03:31 and be part of our program. 03:36 In one of our programs, the last program, 03:38 you told us that they called you the Little Pastor. 03:43 Because as a boy of 10 years of age... 03:48 you were out preaching the gospel... 03:51 You were caught in a war between two awful factions... 03:58 You saw some of your friends gunned down... 04:02 They were going to put you on a helicopter... 04:05 And take you to Nicaragua... 04:08 And then they were going to take you to Cuba... 04:11 And as a little boy of 14... 04:14 they were going to train you to be, as a freedom fighter... 04:19 And as they were putting you on the helicopter... 04:24 the government soldiers came... 04:27 and they fought the other militia... 04:30 and you saw some of your friends just fall 04:33 in this awful bloodbath... 04:37 But you believed that God had a purpose for your life. 04:43 How did you become a Pastor... 04:46 And the leader of a world wide church, 04:48 Pastor Pacheco? 05:00 At that moment when that bloodbath began, 05:03 I felt God's presence... 05:06 Nothing happened to me 05:07 and my other Adventist friends... 05:12 Some of my friends that I had from church, 05:15 they are same age... 05:18 They decided to come here to the United States... 05:22 I couldn't come... 05:25 I had no money to come... 05:29 So I had to face the situation 05:32 there in El Salvador... 05:35 But I also knew that God had a purpose for my life 05:37 there in El Salvador... 05:42 In my mind, I always wanted to be a pastor... 05:46 And I was always praying for that to the Lord. 05:48 And so some of your friends 05:50 fled to the United States of America... 05:53 But you couldn't do this... 05:56 And you were stuck in El Salvador... 06:00 How did you feel about this in your heart? 06:10 I was not saddened by the fact 06:11 that I could not travel or come to this country... 06:17 I said if the Lord has a plan, 06:19 he calls me to be a pastor... 06:21 I have to do it here in El Salvador... 06:25 I have to help my people, my own people, my church... 06:29 I'll serve the Lord here in El Salvador. 06:31 Now, and you had a calling inside 06:33 that God wanted you to be a minister... 06:39 How did you become a pastor? I mean, you were a pastor... 06:43 How did you become a grown up Pastor? 06:53 My mom and my dad... 06:57 they never thought... 07:00 that I was going to become a pastor. 07:01 They never thought you're going to be a pastor? 07:04 But weren't your parents God-fearing really good people? 07:12 The pastor was going to be my other brother... 07:16 Not me. How many brothers and sisters? 07:24 They were ten in total. 07:26 That's a great family. 07:28 Yeah, that's a little kingdom. 07:35 But for that time... 07:38 six of my brothers had already died. 07:40 Oh. 07:46 It was not through the war 07:47 because they didn't get killed like that or... 07:50 It was just a lot of natural death... 07:53 Six, they were my older brothers. 07:55 Six out of ten. 07:59 The last brother... 08:04 That all of us thought that 08:06 who was going to be the pastor... 08:09 his name was David... 08:13 He was the best brother... 08:17 He was preaching there more than I was preaching... 08:22 He was eight years old. 08:24 Eight years old? 08:25 You started when you were ten... 08:30 What kept you from getting on with it? 08:33 He was eight when he was preaching. 08:39 I was more shy. 08:41 And his name was David? 08:44 Now where is David today? 08:49 At eight years old, David... 08:52 he got ill... 08:56 He had cancer in the blood... 08:59 Leukemia. Leukemia. 09:01 What a story this is. 09:06 So with him we would talk, we would have conversations... 09:10 I was one year older than he was... 09:17 He was not afraid of preaching the gospel. 09:20 He would be on the buses preaching. 09:22 And so he had a fire in his soul. 09:26 And he knew the Bible? 09:31 He could not read. 09:33 He could not read? 09:37 He would memorize the Bible text... 09:41 and that is the way that he would preach. 09:46 And that impressed me so much. 09:51 That I said I want to be like David, 09:53 like my little brother. 09:54 I want to say something to the audience. 09:56 I want to say something to the people. 09:58 We hear a lot today about the death of Christianity. 10:00 I want to tell you something. 10:02 You can't kill Christianity 10:03 because it is built upon a living Christ. 10:07 So here in El Salvador, you got terrible bloodshed, 10:10 you got persecution, you got natural disasters, 10:13 earthquakes, hurricanes and famines and even volcanoes. 10:19 And then you've got a tremendous war going on 10:23 but you still got people who are preaching the word. 10:25 Tell him what I said. 10:34 So where is David now? 10:42 When I was 10 years old... 10:46 he was nine years old, I was a year older... 10:53 I remember that there was nothing more 10:54 they could do at the hospital for him. 10:58 My parents, they had withdrew him from the hospital. 11:02 And he said something very, very important. 11:06 He told my mom and my dad... 11:09 I do not want to die in the hospital... 11:13 God has told me that I'm going to die... 11:18 but I want to die at home. 11:21 So they took him out of the hospital. 11:25 We all gathered around him in the bed. 11:31 And then he had said to everyone, 11:32 all of us to leave the room... 11:36 and he told me to stay, only me. 11:41 That's when he then started to tell me, "Brother... 11:46 you are going to be the pastor, not me... 11:47 Glory be to God. 11:49 I'm going to die... 11:52 And I began to cry... 11:57 I began to say, you can't die. 11:59 He loves you so much. 12:03 You're an angel here. You need to be the pastor... 12:08 Not me, I can't do that. 12:14 So he said, you are going to be the pastor. 12:18 Then my parents were called back in... 12:19 my little brothers and sisters. 12:24 As we were there gathered with him... 12:27 he began to sing a hymn... 12:31 and he began to sing with the lyrics that says, 12:34 Only the power of God can change your life. 12:39 The evidence I give to you, He has changed me. 12:44 Don't you see that I'm happy... 12:46 following the Lord Jesus? 12:49 He closed his eyes and he died. 12:55 He died at nine years old 12:57 and I was ten years old at the time. 13:00 At that time, that moment,... 13:04 God told me in my mind... 13:09 what your brother could not preach,... 13:12 you are going to do it... 13:14 and you are going to preach... 13:18 And my mother says that day that my brother died... 13:22 she began to fast... 13:24 every Sabbath... 13:28 Because she was in a lot of pain 13:31 that this was her sixth son that now had died. 13:37 And I began to feel that in my soul. 13:50 I pray that the Lord would give me the strength 13:52 to become that pastor. 13:53 You're going to see him again. 13:56 You're going to see him when Jesus comes. 13:58 And he's going to be your brother again... 14:01 And he'll never get cancer... 14:03 And he'll never die... 14:05 Because we believe that the Lord is coming. 14:07 Amen. 14:08 And we'll be back after this message. 14:11 Stay with us. 14:15 God has His time and His place for everything. 14:20 And the time and the place now is Latin America, 14:25 including Cuba. 14:27 Time Magazine talks about the Second Protestant Reformation 14:32 and describes how hundreds of thousands, 14:35 even millions of Latinos 14:38 are coming to the gospel of Christ. 14:42 I'm not an armchair theologian. 14:45 I'm speaking according to experience. 14:47 I've seen it with my own eyes. 14:51 Recently we went down to El Salvador. 14:55 There I spoke in the largest football stadium 14:59 in Central America with the biggest crowd 15:02 that that football stadium had ever, ever seen. 15:05 They came not to see a football match, 15:08 but to hear about the blood of Christ. 15:12 Millions are coming to a knowledge of God 15:15 in Latin America. 15:18 Doors are opening in Cuba. 15:21 Who knows, we may be going to Cuba soon. 15:25 As the doors open by the grace of God, 15:28 we are going to step through those doors. 15:31 And we want you to step through those doors with us 15:35 and be part of our team for such a time as this. 15:40 Please write to me friend. 15:41 Don't put it off. 15:43 Write to me, John Carter, Post Office Box 1900, 15:47 Thousand Oaks, California, 91358. 15:51 In Australia, write to me at Terrigal, 15:55 New South Wales. 15:56 Be a part of the Second Reformation. 16:00 Join us and see the miracles of God. 16:05 Amen. 16:15 Welcome back. 16:17 Pastor Pacheco, 16:20 you were in charge of a huge evangelistic campaign 16:24 that we ran in San Salvador. 16:30 The capital of El Salvador. 16:31 Gracias. 16:33 I was amazed by the organization... 16:37 Because I've never seen anything 16:38 as good in Australia or America... 16:43 We hired the largest football stadium 16:45 in Central America... 16:49 But this was preceded 16:51 by a number of evangelistic campaigns 16:53 right around the nation. 16:58 Now tell me about those campaigns? 17:07 I would like to extend my appreciation 17:09 to the Carter Report... 17:12 for the blessing that you gave us... 17:16 to have hold those meetings there at the stadium. 17:19 Thank you. 17:22 When we spoke with you... 17:25 we began to pray for this... 17:30 All the brotherhood, they began to pray for this... 17:35 So that God would manifest Himself powerfully... 17:40 I had never thought in my life... 17:44 since I was there and since I grew up and remember... 17:51 we had never had had an event just like that... 17:55 We were afraid... 18:00 The brotherhood was very scared and worried... 18:05 We thought it was just going to be a small campaign... 18:15 And all, from the presidents of the field 18:18 to the brothers of the church, we began to pray... 18:25 We began a meetings many months before... 18:30 so that we could create specific plans... 18:33 There was a special commission, committee made... 18:38 and many of them were volunteered brothers... 18:41 elders. 18:43 And also, this was the best organization 18:45 I'd seen anywhere in the world. 18:50 How many pre-campaign meetings were there? 18:53 Evangelistic meetings. 18:59 We made 96 evangelism meetings. 19:02 I want you to hear this. 96 evangelistic meetings. 19:23 96 evangelists from Central America came... 19:26 Amazing. 19:27 To come and to unite themselves 19:29 with the 96 pastors that we have there in El Salvador... 19:37 And a week before 19:39 the big evangelistic meeting at the stadium... 19:43 the brothers and the pastors... 19:46 they allowed, they gave their homes,... 19:49 they opened the doors to give their food,... 19:53 and they gave their cars... 19:58 and we began to preach the word of God... 20:03 I felt that the moment of Pentecost has arisen... 20:07 All the churches were united. 20:09 All the churches were united... 20:11 about a 180 pastors... 20:13 and to God, you were the leader... 20:16 I congratulate you... 20:18 Because I could see God working through you... 20:21 The organization was the best 20:23 I've seen anywhere in the world... 20:25 How many buses did you hire? 20:33 That was another amazing thing that happened... 20:40 We thought there was going to be 20:42 200 or 250 buses that would arrive. 20:43 That's a lot of buses. 200 buses. 20:49 But we had 750 buses arrived. 20:52 Just see this, 750 buses. 21:00 And that was not even counting all the buses, 21:03 the pickup trucks and I'm sorry the mini buses 21:06 that people just came in. 21:07 That wasn't the mini buses or the cars? 21:12 But 700 how many? 21:14 750, sir. 21:15 50 buses. 21:17 Now when the buses came, 21:19 now I've never seen so many buses... 21:26 and you were the organizer of this 21:29 with the rest of the presidents... 21:33 and the people came from all across El Salvador... 21:38 Tens of thousands... 21:41 and the meeting started on time... 21:45 And we had great music... 21:48 And the meeting has finished on time... 21:52 And we saw in one day, around 5000 souls baptized... 21:59 Now people tell me in this part of the world... 22:03 and in Australia... 22:05 and in Europe... 22:06 They said it can't be done... 22:08 And the reason they say that 22:11 is because they don't have faith... 22:14 And they don't have obedience... 22:16 And it seems to me 22:18 they don't really believe the words of the Bible... 22:22 Now tell me about the people coming to the meetings. 22:36 I was very impressed, specifically about the buses 22:39 that you mentioned... 22:41 Even the policemen... 22:45 How are you going to place the buses? 22:47 I know. 22:49 But the Lord opened powerfully these situations... 22:55 They were complete churches... 23:01 That they would travel a whole day... 23:05 to come to the evangelistic meeting... 23:10 They would leave at 3 A.M... 23:15 And they would arrive at 4.P.M... 23:21 To get the good seats... 23:25 They would come with their little flags. 23:26 Yes. 23:29 With their small group leader... 23:31 with the church elders... 23:34 Very, very well organized... 23:38 And with the list of the people, 23:40 friends that they were bringing... 23:44 The best organization ever... 23:47 Everybody knew where he was to sit... 23:50 And we had more than 50,000 people in the stadium. 23:56 Yes, sir. Glory be to God. 24:03 That stadium had never been filled before. 24:06 Tell me about the baptisms 24:09 before you talk about the baptisms, 24:12 I want to say to the audience... 24:14 That Carter Reporter was privileged to pay for the, 24:19 all these preliminary meetings, the hire of the stadium 24:23 but our partners were the people in El Salvador... 24:30 These people put up hundreds of thousands... 24:34 And our donors sent us hundreds of thousands... 24:37 And we saw another Pentecost... 24:39 So, thank you... 24:41 You thanked me for coming... 24:45 It was my privilege... 24:46 It was my honor... 24:48 I got the blessing... 24:50 Now tell us about the baptisms. 24:57 There was a great celebration... 25:02 Now I'm still visiting churches... 25:06 And recently I had an evangelistic meeting... 25:11 Two and a half hours from the capital... 25:15 And many brothers approached me... 25:18 They said, "Pastor... 25:20 I got baptized at the stadium,.. 25:23 I am a member now of the church." 25:32 You cannot forget that wonderful feeling 25:35 and that moment that we've experienced at the stadium. 25:38 Pastor Pacheco, not all church leaders do evangelism... 25:43 They talk about evangelism... 25:45 They even believe in evangelism... 25:47 But they are more comfortable behind the desk... 25:51 Do you do evangelism? 26:00 In the Salvadorian Union, 26:02 I personally have three evangelistic meetings. 26:05 Three meetings? 26:06 Three evangelistic campaigns... 26:09 Big evangelistic meetings... Big campaigns. 26:17 Two weeks ago I finished my another evangelistic meeting. 26:19 I'm so proud of you. 26:27 Evangelism is a passage, 26:29 it's a way of living, it's Jesus Christ. 26:32 It's a lifeblood of the church... 26:36 When the church does it, God blesses the church... 26:39 And when the church doesn't do it... 26:41 The church dies out... 26:44 And so we are privileged to know you... 26:49 Know you both... 26:51 Because we believe in the Bible,... 26:53 We believe in Christ... 26:55 We believe in the atoning sacrifice... 26:57 We believe in the coming of the Lord... 27:00 And that's why we do evangelism. 27:02 Now what are your plans for the future? 27:10 This year, Pastor... 27:13 we are with the pastors of my union... 27:17 we want to plant in one year... 27:20 a 100 churches. 27:21 Hundred churches? 27:22 And you will. 27:26 In November, Lord willing... 27:28 We're praying... 27:30 We're asking the Lord... 27:35 And with the Ministry of the Carter Report... 27:40 Our brothers are now more on fire... 27:44 Because now, there's a lot of seeds... 27:47 that were planted and now people are coming for it... 27:51 And now we are taking them to the future. 27:52 Let me give you a secret... 27:54 We left our hearts down there... 27:57 We'd like to go back one day... 27:58 Amen. 28:00 And thank you, for being leaders in God's work... 28:03 And thank you, for your passion for Christ... 28:06 And thank you, for being our guests today. 28:09 So my friend, what do you think about that? 28:11 Write to me, John Carter, Post Office Box 1900, 28:15 Thousand Oaks, California, 91358. 28:17 Write to me in Australia. 28:19 Remember evangelism is the lifeblood of the church. 28:24 Support evangelism. 28:26 Help us to preach Christ to the world. 28:29 Thank you and God bless you. |
