00:04 The Carter Report presents "Plain Talk" with John Carter.
00:16 Hello, friend. 00:18 I'm John Carter and you are tuned to the Carter Report. 00:21 Our program today is entitled, "Plain talk." 00:25 Most folks like plain talk. 00:29 They don't want politics, they don't want lies, 00:32 they don't want deceit. 00:34 They want somebody to tell it as it is. 00:37 And so we've called this program "Plain Talk." 00:41 Welcome today to the Carter Report. 00:46 Hi. I'm John Carter. 00:48 My wife Beverly and I were watching television 00:51 the other night, watching the news, American news. 00:54 They told us that the church in North America 00:56 is actually shrinking. 00:58 They said that atheism is the fastest growing 01:00 religious movement today in North America. 01:03 And people are saying, "What an earth can we do 01:06 to save the church?" 01:07 Well, of course, Christ died for the church, 01:09 He saved the church. 01:11 But what they mean is, how can we keep the church 01:13 as a vibrant force in the world today, 01:16 in Australia, in America 01:17 and in Europe and in the rest of the world. 01:19 Let me tell you a little story. 01:21 John Wesley was one of the greatest preachers 01:23 of the English speaking world has ever heard. 01:27 John Wesley came upon the scene of the church 01:30 in England a few 100 years ago, when the church was dying. 01:33 Like the church today, it was a shrinking church, 01:37 but the people in the church were in a state of denial. 01:40 They refused to accept the reality 01:42 that the church was dying. 01:44 John Wesley did something that other people said 01:46 couldn't be done. 01:48 He revived the church through public evangelism. 01:51 Did you hear that? 01:52 He started to preach Christ, he preached the Bible 01:56 and he preached out of doors and indoors 01:58 and the church was saved. 02:01 Not only did he save a lot of souls, 02:03 the souls of sinners, 02:05 he saved the souls of the saints. 02:09 Please join me, my friend, in evangelism. 02:14 It's what Jesus did. 02:16 Write to me, John Carter Post Office Box 1900, 02:20 Thousand Oaks, California. 02:22 In Australia, write to me at the address on the screen 02:25 at Terrigal, in New South Wales. 02:29 Join me, my friend, in preaching Christ. 02:33 Join me in public evangelism around the world. 02:38 Thank you, in Jesus' name. 02:47 Jesus taught church unity, "That they may be one." 02:52 Do you see the day when Protestants, 02:54 Orthodox and Catholics will be one church? 02:57 And what separates you from the Catholic Church? 03:01 Yes, I do see that day. 03:04 It's coming on like a flood. 03:09 Just recently they had a big meeting over here 03:11 in the United States, 03:12 huge crowd of evangelicals and they said, 03:15 "Hey, there's nothing separating us today 03:18 from the wonderful Holy Roman Catholic Church." 03:22 Yes, I think it's going to happen. 03:25 I think the Protestants are going to get together, 03:27 I mean, who cares what you believe anymore 03:30 as long as you're just loving to people. 03:32 And I think, they are going to turn 03:34 to the Roman Catholic Church 03:36 that still is a mighty force in the world 03:39 with a charismatic Pope. 03:40 And I think the Orthodox Church is going to come along too, 03:43 yeah, I think we are living in the day 03:47 of the unity of the churches. 03:50 Now, the person said, "What makes you different 03:54 from the Roman Catholic Church?" 03:57 I want to say this to every person. 04:00 I love my brothers and my sisters 04:02 in the Roman Catholic Church. 04:04 Bless your heart. 04:05 My father was a Roman Catholic. 04:08 He was an alter boy, when he was a little fellow. 04:10 And so I was brought up with a fair dose 04:13 of the Roman Catholic religion. 04:17 So, just get this from my heart, 04:20 I love Roman Catholics. 04:22 But I don't believe 04:24 in what the Roman Catholic Church teaches. 04:26 What? 04:28 You don't believe in 04:29 what the Roman Catholic Church teaches? 04:30 No, I don't believe in what the Roman Catholic Church 04:33 teaches on the gospel. 04:37 I believe the Bible teaches one great gospel 04:41 and I don't believe the Roman Catholic Church 04:44 truly understands the gospel. 04:46 The Bible tells me, when I come to Christ 04:50 and believe in Him, I am justified through faith. 04:54 This means that God declares that I am righteous. 04:59 But in the Council of Trent, the Roman Catholic Church 05:03 teaches the justification is not a declaration 05:07 but of making of righteousness. 05:11 What's the differences you say? 05:12 Well, it's a difference between night and day. 05:16 Big doors swing on little hinges, my friend. 05:20 You see if righteousness through faith 05:23 is a making of righteousness, 05:25 it means I never come to the place 05:27 where I am righteous enough to be saved. 05:31 Therefore, I need a good burning up in purgatory. 05:36 But the Bible teaches, the moment I come to Jesus, 05:40 I am declared righteous. 05:43 That's the difference, the gospel; 05:45 the gospel is God's good news. 05:49 Don't you know about the wonderful Mother Teresa? 05:53 Haven't you read her letters published after her death, 05:57 that she never had a day of peace? 05:59 She was filled with fear and remorse, 06:02 because even though she was striving and praying 06:05 and doing good works, she couldn't get good enough. 06:09 Oh, my friend, she needed to hear the good news of God. 06:13 That is not our goodness but, it is His goodness 06:17 and the sinners declared righteous. 06:20 That's the big difference, the gospel. 06:21 I don't believe in the priesthood. 06:23 Oh, I do believe in the priest 06:25 and I don't believe in the earthly priest. 06:27 I believe there is one priest. 06:29 That is Jesus; 06:30 I don't believe in any earthly priest, 06:34 I don't believe in confessing my sins to a sinner. 06:38 I believe in confessing my sins to God. 06:41 Oh, you say, your a little bit fanatical. 06:43 No, no, no. 06:44 I'm a little bit biblical, I'm sorry. 06:49 I believe in keeping the commandments of God 06:52 and the Church of Rome tells me, 06:53 they changed the Sabbath. 06:56 I believe that the saints are sleeping in the grave; 06:59 I can show you this in the Bible. 07:02 Jesus said, "They're sleeping, they're sleeping." 07:05 I didn't believe the Virgin Mary 07:08 or Saint Peter 07:09 or any of those holy people are in heaven, 07:12 I believe there are waiting the resurrection. 07:15 So that's the death nail in my opinion 07:18 to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. 07:23 I love Roman Catholic Church, 07:25 but I am a Protestant and a Bible believer. 07:29 So help me God, amen. 07:33 That's the plain truth that I'm telling you here today. 07:39 Do you believe in purgatory and hell? 07:43 I don't believe in purgatory 07:45 as something that the church thought up, 07:49 you know, purgatory is just a myth. 07:51 There's no such place as purgatory. 07:54 That was a theological necessity, 07:58 because the Roman Church doesn't understand 08:00 the truth of the gospel. 08:03 Do I believe in hell? 08:04 Yes, I do believe in hell. 08:08 Somebody says, "No, no, no, there's no such thing as hell, 08:11 no, no, no you can't believe in hell." 08:13 Well, the Bible teaches there is hell. 08:17 Jesus spoke about a place of burning where the damned go. 08:22 Jesus said in Matthew 13, 08:24 "That the wicked will be thrown into hell 08:27 at the end of the world." 08:29 I know how many people are in hell now. 08:32 Would you like to know? I have an inside look. 08:34 Zero. There's nobody in hell. 08:36 You don't go to hell when you die. 08:38 Hell is at the end of the world, 08:41 and the Bible teaches 08:42 that the fire of the judgment, 08:45 fires of Gehenna will go out, 08:48 and the wicked will cease their troubling, 08:50 because the wicked will be no more. 08:53 I believe in the love of God. 08:55 I do not believe in the monstrous idea 08:58 that God is a terrorist, 09:00 who loves to torture people 09:02 for million and millions and trillions of years, 09:07 as it's taught by the Catholic Church 09:10 and by many Protestant Churches. 09:13 Now I love those people, 09:14 but I've got good news for them today. 09:17 God loves you so much. 09:19 He cares for you so much. 09:21 Christ died for you. 09:23 If you believe in Him, you will not perish 09:25 but you will everlasting life 09:28 and salvation is free for you today. 09:34 I have broken every rule in the book. 09:36 I am guilty of murder, theft and adultery. 09:40 Is there any hope for me? 09:43 Yes, there is. 09:44 But, you better start coming to God now 09:46 and don't put it off. 09:48 What happens if you die in this-- 09:49 as my beloved Catholic friend say, 09:52 "In a state of sin." 09:54 If you die in a state of sin, 09:56 you will go to hell at the end of the world. 09:59 But is there hope for you? Yes, sure. 10:02 I am the preacher of the gospel and the gospel means good news. 10:07 I'm gonna come over here. I think it is to Isaiah 55. 10:13 Now listen to this my despairing friend. 10:15 "Seek the Lord while He may be found; 10:18 call upon Him while He is near. 10:21 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. 10:24 Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, 10:27 and to our God, for He will freely pardon." 10:31 If there is a desire in your heart to be saved, 10:36 you can be saved. 10:38 So, come to Christ now and the Bible says, 10:41 God will completely, freely pardon you, 10:44 and you will be saved. 10:48 Will America always be blessed by God 10:51 and have His protection? 10:54 I love America. 10:57 I love the constitution. 11:00 I love what America has done. 11:02 America has been for so many years, 11:07 are a great blessing in the world. 11:09 As a famous pastor standing on television said, 11:13 "We shouldn't have won the Second World War. 11:15 We weren't ready. 11:17 But God put His hand over us and we had the blessing of God, 11:21 because His hand was over us to protect us." 11:26 But listen, my friend. 11:28 If you want to understand 11:29 what's going to happen to you or me, 11:32 or to America, or to Australia, or Great Britain, 11:34 just go and read your Bible. 11:36 When the people of God obeyed God, 11:38 when they followed God, 11:40 when they kept His commandments, 11:42 God blessed them. 11:43 But when they turned away from God, 11:45 God allowed the Philistines and the Babylonians 11:48 and the Assyrians and the Romans 11:51 to come and destroy them. 11:53 People say, "Well, what happen to the Jewish nation? 11:55 It was destroyed in 70 A.D. 11:57 because the people turned away from God. 11:59 I'm saying with the heart of love for America. 12:02 And I love America, 12:03 but we are seeing a turning away from God 12:06 today in America. 12:09 We have a press that bombards us 24/7 12:14 with liberal ideas 12:16 and a blatant attack upon the Bible, 12:20 upon the word of God 12:21 and upon American traditions and values. 12:27 And we have today, in America, 12:29 a blatant attack upon the Christian home, 12:33 upon marriage, from the politicians, 12:37 from the leaders, 12:39 from the commentators on television, 12:43 on the radio commentators, they seemed to have, 12:47 oh, many of them, seem to have a burden 12:50 to attack the word of God 12:53 and everything that the word of God teaches. 12:57 You know, what I'm talking about? 12:59 And I believe that if America 13:02 goes the way of the Roman Empire, 13:07 America will go down exactly 13:10 as the Roman Empire went down. 13:13 God is no respecter of persons. 13:15 If we do the sins of ancient Israel, 13:19 we do the sins of the Babylonians, 13:22 if we do the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah, 13:27 we're going to go down 13:29 like the Babylonians, the Israelites. 13:34 We're just going to go down. 13:39 We sing the great song, "God bless America. 13:42 God shed His grace on thee." 13:45 I want to say what we need in America today, 13:50 is a day of repentance. 13:53 A year of repentance. 13:55 We need to have a turning to God 13:58 and coming back to the Bible 14:00 and coming back to the commandments of God 14:02 and coming back to Christian marriage. 14:05 God will only bless America 14:09 as America follows the word of God. 14:12 This is Plain Talk and God bless you. 14:20 Hello, friend. 14:21 I'm John Carter in Havana, Cuba. 14:24 I'm standing here in Revolutionary Square. 14:29 This great Square is dedicated 14:31 to the great Communist Revolution 14:33 under Fidel that came to this country 14:36 back 50, 60 years ago. 14:39 This place is still undergoing a revolution. 14:43 We've come to check out the reality of this situation. 14:47 Freedom of speech is not allowed here still, 14:51 preaching the gospel out of doors 14:53 is not allowed here still, 14:55 whatever, you hear about reconciliation, 14:58 nothing has really changed. 15:01 We've been told we cannot run public campaigns in Cuba 15:07 in any part of this world. 15:10 We can run meetings in churches. 15:12 That's allowed. So what are we gonna do? 15:15 We're going to support the people of God 15:16 in this part of the world; 15:18 we're going to step through those doors 15:20 as God opens those doors. 15:23 We're not going to come and cause a commotion 15:27 and cause trouble to the people of God. 15:30 We will work diligently and "as wise as serpents 15:36 and as harmless as doves." 15:39 Stand with us, in the preaching of the gospel 15:42 wherever it is, stand with us. 15:44 Write to me, Post Office Box, 1900 Thousand Oaks, 15:48 California 91358. 15:49 In Australia, write to me at the address 15:52 which is now appearing on the screen at Terrigal. 15:55 And let us go forward 15:57 for a mighty spiritual revolution, 16:00 as we take the gospel of Christ 16:04 to the lost around the world as God opens the doors. 16:08 This is John Carter 16:10 in Revolutionary Square in Havana, Cuba, 16:13 saying to you, God bless you and thank you for your support. 16:21 Who made God? 16:23 God's been around forever. 16:26 The very nature of God means that nobody made Him. 16:30 Now our God is not some city little tin God 16:33 like Richard Dawkins likes to deride. 16:37 Did you know this, 16:40 before the creation of the universe 16:42 that scientists call The Big Bang? 16:45 People say, "If you believe in the Big Bang, 16:48 you got to believe in evolution." 16:49 No, no, no, no, The Big Bang 16:53 is simply a scientific term for the point 16:56 when God created the universe out of nothing, 17:01 in a blinding flash of energy. 17:04 Now before creation, 17:06 before what scientist called the Big Bang, 17:09 there was no time. 17:11 But God was there. 17:14 God is not in time, time is in God. 17:18 And if there was no time before the Big Bang 17:21 then it does away 17:23 with the necessity of God being made. 17:27 God is a being who is self existent. 17:31 Do you believe in demons? 17:34 Do I believe in demons? 17:36 Yeah, I'm sure I believe in demons. 17:39 I'm not a fanatic who thinks that everything that's-- 17:44 bad that happens is caused by demon. 17:47 I don't believe that. Now that's fanaticism. 17:50 I'm going to try to find a text for you and here it is. 17:54 This is good one. 17:56 I could show you a lot of text, but this will do. 17:57 Matthew 4:1 "Then Jesus was led by 18:00 the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil." 18:05 Hear that? There's a devil. There's a master mind of evil. 18:11 The Liberals didn't in evil before 9/11. 18:15 But even the liberals after 9/11 said, 18:18 "Well, there's got to be 18:20 something that's evil in the world 18:22 and the universe." 18:23 There is. 18:25 The Bible talks, Jesus talks about 18:27 a personal devil or Satan. 18:30 And when you read in the New Testament 18:32 and other parts of the Bible, 18:33 you read of the activity of evil spirits. 18:38 The Bible says, "These are fallen angels." 18:41 They got nothing to do with dead people. 18:44 Good angels are not dead people who've died and gone, 18:47 you know, people who've gone to heaven. 18:48 Now that's not true. 18:51 The Bible talks about Satan, 18:53 who was the leader of the hosts of darkness 18:56 and therefore, you have, probably, 18:59 billions and billions of evil spirits. 19:03 And they try to cause trouble in the world, 19:06 they're, they're the ones who deceive people, 19:09 they're the people 19:11 who are behind pornography and pedophilia, 19:15 and whores and all the evil in the world. 19:18 But the good news is this, that Jesus Christ is Lord 19:23 over the devil and Lord over the demons 19:26 and that is why you need to have 19:27 Jesus Christ on your side and in your heart, my friend. 19:33 Did Jesus really exist? 19:36 Well, ask Richard Dawkins, 19:37 the world's most famous atheist. 19:40 He made the foolish statement once, 19:42 I think with the great mathematician 19:47 John Lennox from Oxford University 19:50 that there was no evidence for the existence of Jesus. 19:54 But I heard him say more recently, 19:57 and this was good. 19:58 He said, "I was wrong." 20:00 My friend, it takes a bit gumption, 20:02 a bit of decency to say, "I was wrong." 20:05 Some people would rather die than say 20:07 they are wrong. 20:08 Richard Dawkins says, "I was wrong." 20:11 There is historical evidence for Jesus. 20:14 Jesus was a Jewish man born of a peasant girl, 20:19 the Blessed Virgin Mary about 2000 years ago, 20:23 who lived on this earth, who died on the cross 20:27 and who was raised from the dead. 20:30 Now you say, oh, no that's all-- 20:31 that says-- the Irish say that's hooey. 20:34 It's nonsense. No, it's historical fact. 20:38 I ask you the question, 20:40 what happened to the body of Jesus? 20:42 If it wasn't raised, 20:44 what happened to the body of Jesus? 20:46 Why didn't the Romans produce it 20:48 or the Jews produce it? 20:49 And say, "No, this all a hoax." 20:52 They couldn't produce the body of Jesus, 20:54 because the body wasn't in the tomb, 20:56 the body was no where, the body wasn't stolen away, 21:00 the body was raised and went home to glory. 21:03 Yes, history tells me there was a Jesus 21:09 and the good news is He's alive. 21:13 How do you know the Bible is God's word? 21:17 I heard a young man get up and say, 21:21 "I believe in the Bible just because I got faith." 21:25 I don't believe that, I think that's foolish, 21:27 pardon my saying. 21:29 This is plain talk, you know, and pardon my saying, 21:32 but I think it's foolish to say, 21:33 "I just believe because I've got faith." 21:35 That's what Muslims say, they believe in their teachings 21:38 because they've got faith. 21:39 The Buddha say, "I believe in Buddha 21:41 because I've got faith." 21:42 Faith is just belief. 21:44 I believe in the Bible because of the evidence. 21:48 I've studied biblical archaeology 21:50 for about 50 years. 21:52 The Bible is historically accurate. 21:57 Now there is a great British scholar, 22:00 Kenneth Kitchen. 22:02 You ought to get his book, 22:04 "On the Reliability of the Old Testament." 22:07 It is the most scholarly book 22:09 on the reliability of the Bible. 22:12 He slays the dragons of unbelief. 22:16 There is overwhelming evidence that the Bible 22:19 is historically true. 22:20 Not long ago, I was in Israel, 22:22 I went into great Israeli museum 22:26 and there they had found a tablet or a-- 22:30 an artifact that had the name of King David on it. 22:34 And the skeptics were saying David was a myth. 22:37 No, he was not a myth. 22:40 The characters of the Bible 22:41 are as real as you are or as I am. 22:44 I believe the Bible because of prophesy. 22:47 This book is not like the Quran or some other book. 22:50 This book is full of prophesy. 22:53 I have seen 10s of, 22:56 100s of 1000s of atheists in Russia 22:59 come to God after I presented the truth 23:02 about the prophesies. 23:04 You say 100s of 1000s? 23:06 Well, we had millions come to our meetings. 23:08 I've seen 100s of 1000s of atheists come 23:11 because of the prophesies. 23:13 And the Bible is shown true 23:15 because of the person of Christ. 23:17 Nobody could have invented Him. 23:18 The person of Christ 23:20 is the greatest evidence for the Bible. 23:23 And there's another great piece of evidence, 23:25 wherever the Bible goes, it enlightens. 23:29 It uplifts, it saves, it makes people healthier, 23:34 it gives them freedom. 23:35 Look at the countries in the world 23:37 that reject the Bible. 23:39 They are the most wretched countries 23:42 where the women are oppressed, where the people are poor. 23:46 What made America the greatest nation? 23:48 And what made Britain great? 23:51 What made America great? I will tell you. 23:54 The Bible, because it's the word of God. 23:59 Is there life after death? 24:01 Absolutely. 24:03 Why do I believe in life after death? 24:06 Because of the fact and I like facts. 24:11 I don't like just talking religious talk. 24:16 I want the truth. God give me the truth. 24:21 I want the truth and Jesus said 24:25 this word is the truth. 24:26 Now I'm gonna come over here and read a bit of God's truth, 24:31 coming over here to the 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 24:35 written by one of the greatest theologians, 24:39 scholars, one of the greatest minds 24:42 that the world has ever seen, that's Paul. 24:45 1 Thessalonians 4:16. 24:47 "For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, 24:49 with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel 24:53 with the trumpet call of God, 24:54 and the dead in Christ will rise first." 24:57 The Bible says, Christ is going to come back. 25:02 The Bible says, the dead are sleeping. 25:06 This means that, Mary is sleeping, 25:08 Saint Peter is sleeping, 25:11 all the saints of God are sleeping. 25:13 You don't go to heaven when you die. 25:16 Oh, where did you get that heresy? 25:20 Well, I got that truth out of the Bible. 25:23 I don't go by just the teaching of my church. 25:26 I go by the teachings of the Bible 25:28 and the Bible says, Christ is going to come back, 25:31 He's going to raise the dead 25:33 and God's people are going to go home to glory. 25:36 One day I'm going to live forever 25:39 and you can too, if you come to Christ. 25:43 Do you believe in hope? 25:45 You better believe it. 25:47 When I look around this world today, 25:50 crime and the violence and the raging racism 25:57 and I see ISIS and these awful groups 26:03 that are murdering and killing and raping 26:07 and doing all of these abominable crimes, 26:11 one could be overcome with despair, 26:13 one can say, you know, what's the-- 26:15 what's the use? 26:16 Everything is getting worse. 26:18 Every day I get out of bed in the morning I say, 26:21 "Thank God, I have the blessed hope." 26:25 And God's hope is not wishful thinking. 26:30 Someone says, "Oh, when you talk about hope, 26:32 you just hope it's gonna happen." 26:33 No, my hope is based upon God and upon Christ 26:39 and upon the resurrection of Christ 26:41 that He rose from the dead, 26:42 and that He's going to come back. 26:45 When He comes back, you know, what he's gonna do? 26:48 He's gonna take His people home to glory. 26:53 Very dear friend of mine passed away just recently, 26:57 my beloved brother Warren Judd. 27:00 Went over to Loma Linda on Monday night 27:02 for his memorial, 27:03 had a little part in his service. 27:07 Everybody there was sad, but everybody there was happy. 27:11 Happiness and sadness co-existing. 27:16 Everybody was happy because everybody had hope. 27:21 I told the people, 27:23 we're not saying good bye to Warren. 27:26 We're simply saying, "Good night, old friend. 27:28 We're gonna see you in the morning." 27:31 We're gonna see him again.
