00:13 Welcome back, glad to see you.
00:15 Let's get started. 00:17 The topic is Shall We Return to Rome? 00:20 And this is part 4 in the series. 00:22 Millions of voices are now urging 00:25 a rapid return to Rome millions of Protestants. 00:29 This is made urgent by deteriorating world conditions, 00:32 example, increasing natural disasters, 00:36 increasing terrorism and violence, 00:39 increasing the increasing risk of nuclear war 00:43 with crazy nations, and collapsing moral standards. 00:48 The cry is heard across America, 00:50 around Australia and Europe. 00:52 We need a father, we need a shepherd to lead us, 00:57 that leader is the Holy Father, the Pope of Rome. 01:02 Now, let it be made very plain, 01:03 there are many good things 01:06 I like about the Pope and the Catholic Church. 01:10 I like, I got to confess this, confession is good for soul. 01:15 The grand ceremonies I like ceremony, 01:20 I like it when they have the coronation in 01:22 or a wedding in Westminster Abbey 01:25 that sort of chokes me up. 01:26 The grand ceremonies, 01:28 the pomp and the display have a strong appeal. 01:32 And Pope Francis God bless him, is a pastor, 01:37 not another church bureaucrat, I like that. 01:41 and so today when we're talking about 01:44 what we like and what we don't like 01:46 let it be made very plain, 01:47 we're not criticizing people, 01:50 because there are good and bad people 01:52 in every church including my own church, 01:56 good and bad people, sheep and goats. 02:00 But we're talking about system 02:01 that I believe rests upon a man made foundation. 02:04 Today we're comparing the teachings 02:06 of the Roman church with the Bible. 02:09 And no offences meant to any sincere 02:12 good Roman Catholic, like my relatives. 02:18 This is essential 02:20 when many Protestants are thinking of returning to Rome. 02:24 They see no differences, 02:26 we need to look below the surface. 02:29 There we come to Doctrine chapter 9 in the series, 02:32 Baptism and the New Birth, why? 02:38 Because Rome invented infant baptism. 02:42 My Roman Catholic relatives wanted me 02:45 as a baby to be baptized by the priest, 02:49 they wanted me to become a Roman Catholic priest. 02:55 That's another story. 02:57 I was later baptized as a young man. 03:00 The Bible teaches the baptism of those 03:03 who are old enough to intelligently 03:06 and willingly accept Christ. 03:09 Now take your Bible and come over here 03:10 to Matthew 3 and verses onwards, 03:13 now we got a little bit here in this chapter, 03:15 read Matthew 3:1 and onwards, 03:18 "In those days 03:19 John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 03:23 and saying, 03:24 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" 03:27 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah." 03:31 Verse 5 and 6, "Then Jerusalem, all Judea, 03:35 and all the region around the Jordan 03:37 went out to him and were baptized by him", 03:40 what does it say? 03:41 "In the Jordan, confessing their sins." 03:44 Baptized in the river. 03:47 And then verses 13 and onwards, 03:49 "Then Jesus came from Galilee to John 03:51 at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 03:53 But John tried to prevent him, saying, 03:56 "I need to be baptized by you, and are you coming to me?" 04:00 But Jesus answered and said to him, 04:01 "Permit it to be so now, 04:03 for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." 04:06 Then he allowed him. 04:08 When he had been baptized, 04:09 Jesus came up immediately from the water and behold, 04:12 the heavens were opened to him, 04:13 and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove 04:16 and a lighting upon him. 04:18 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 04:20 "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." 04:27 " Jesus is our Lord, our savior, 04:32 and was baptized as an adult, in the river Jordan. 04:39 And he was baptized not by sprinkling. 04:44 He was baptized by immersion. 04:47 Come over here to John 3:23, 04:51 John 3 it says, 04:53 and John that's "John the Baptist, 04:55 also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, 04:58 because there was much water there. 05:02 And they came and were baptized." 05:05 If John the Baptists had been sprinkling babies 05:07 he would have needed a cup of water. 05:10 But he was baptizing people by the thousands, 05:14 and I've had the privilege of doing this 05:15 and he was doing it in a river. 05:19 So baptism is only true really my friend, 05:24 when it's done with people who know what they're doing 05:27 and they're totally immersed. 05:29 Baptism is a sign of being born again. 05:32 You say, "What on earth is that?" 05:34 Well, come over here to John 3: 3-7, John 3, 05:39 "Jesus answered and said to Nicodemus, 05:42 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, 05:45 he cannot see the kingdom of God." 05:47 Nicodemus said to Him, 05:49 "How can a man be born when he is old? 05:52 Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb 05:54 and be born?" 05:56 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, 06:00 unless one is born of water and the spirit, 06:05 he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 06:07 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, 06:10 and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. 06:12 Do not marvel that I say this to you, 06:15 'You must be born again.' 06:18 " Now Jesus said that this baptism in the river, 06:22 this baptism with water is a symbol 06:26 of something a lot bigger. 06:29 Something more profound it is being born again. 06:34 And this is when God gives people new spiritual life 06:40 that doesn't happen when you're a baby. 06:42 It happens when a person comes 06:45 as a penitent sinner to Christ. 06:48 Come over here to John 1: 11-13, 06:52 John 1: 11-13, 06:56 John 1: 11-13, the Bible says, 07:01 "He came to his own, 07:03 and his own did not receive him. 07:04 But as many as received him, 07:06 to them he gave the right to become children of God, 07:10 to those who believe in his name, 07:12 who were born, not of blood, 07:14 nor of the will of the flesh, 07:16 nor of the will of man, but of God." 07:19 The Bible says when I come to Christ in true faith, 07:24 I am born again 07:27 and baptism by total immersion is the symbol 07:33 of coming to Christ and being born again. 07:37 Listen carefully 07:41 when I was boy, 07:43 I attended a meeting at Avondale 07:45 I heard preacher, 07:47 an English preacher speak on that God filled a blank 07:51 after so many years. 07:52 I can see him, hear the sermon. 07:56 He said, "Is a boy here and he's got a blank, 07:59 he's got an emptiness in his soul." 08:04 I thought of myself, how does he know? 08:06 It's me. 08:08 We've all got emptiness in our souls, 08:11 only God can fill the emptiness, you see. 08:16 When I come to Christ in true faith 08:19 he fills the emptiness and I become a new person 08:26 and this is called in the Bible the new birth. 08:29 Listen to this, 08:30 the Roman Catholic Church like some Protestant churches. 08:35 The Roman Catholic Church 08:37 emphasizes union with the church. 08:42 Protestantism emphasizes union with Christ, 08:46 and a personal relationship with Christ. 08:50 You see, you can be united to the church, 08:53 you can be a part of the church, 08:55 but unless you are in Christ, and unless Christ is in you, 09:01 you won't see the kingdom of God. 09:03 That's what Jesus said, so you got be born again. 09:06 Jesus said, you're not gonna see the kingdom of God 09:10 that's true with the Pope and all the priests 09:12 and everybody else, 09:13 that's true with you and me, Jesus said, 09:16 "You've got to be born again." 09:19 Now, number 10 09:23 this is more than a doctrine this is a summary of ideas. 09:26 Number 10 the battle cry, 09:29 the Protestant reformers against the papacy. 09:34 This is very heart and soul of it. 09:36 Number one, Sola Christus, 09:39 it's only Christ. 09:41 John 14:6, Jesus said, 09:44 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. 09:46 No one comes to the Father except through me." 09:50 You don't come to the father through the Pope or a priest, 09:54 you come through Christ, 09:56 because he is the only way we believe in Sola Christus. 10:03 Sola Scriptura only Scripture. 10:08 The Bible is not judged by the church, 10:11 the church is judged by the Bible. 10:14 Look at 2 Timothy 3:15 to 17 10:16 and that includes my church and every other church, 10:21 "And that from childhood 10:22 you have known the Holy Scriptures, 10:24 which are able to make you wise for salvation 10:26 through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 10:29 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, 10:34 and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, 10:37 for correction, 10:39 for instruction in righteousness, 10:41 that the man of God may be complete, 10:45 thoroughly equipped for every good work." 10:49 And doctrines do not come from the church, 10:52 and doctrines come from Holy Scripture. 10:57 Our authority is not the voice of the church, 11:01 my authority is not the voice of my church. 11:04 The authority of the church is the word of God. 11:09 Not the voice of the church fathers, 11:11 not the voice of tradition, 11:14 but the voice of God speaking through his word. 11:18 Sola Christus, 11:19 Sola's not all Protestants believe this, 11:22 because in their own hearts they've got more Catholicism 11:26 than they have the teachings of Luther. 11:29 Sola Christus, Sola Scriptura, number three, 11:32 Sola Gratia only grace. 11:35 Ephesians 2:8 and 9, 11:38 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, 11:43 and that not of yourselves, 11:45 it is the gift of God, not of works, 11:48 lest anyone should boast." 11:50 We're not saved by our human merit all 11:54 because we are good enough 11:55 we are saved by the mercy and the grace of God. 12:00 And then number four Soal Fide, 12:03 that means only Faith, 12:06 not faith in works, Sola Fide. 12:10 Romans 1:17, 12:15 "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed 12:19 from faith to faith, as it is written, 12:23 "The just shall live by faith." 12:26 " I am not saved by faith 12:28 and works I am saved by a faith that works. 12:34 And there's a clear distinction nothing in my hand, 12:38 I bring simply to thy cross I cling. 12:43 Sola Christus, Sola Scriptura, 12:45 Sola Gratia, and Sola Fide. 12:48 Doctrine number 11, 12:52 and now we deal with a doctrine 12:56 which is overwhelming in importance. 12:59 The intercession of the saints and prayers for the dead. 13:05 The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the saints Mary, 13:09 Peter, James and John, 13:11 and more recently 13:13 mother Theresa can intercede for us 13:16 and we can pray to them 13:18 and they have a great power with God. 13:22 But listen 13:26 the Bible teaches that the dead are sleeping. 13:31 I want you to see this John 11: 11-14, 13:35 the words of Christ, 13:37 "These things he said, and after that he said to them, 13:40 "Our friend Lazarus sleeps, 13:42 but I go that I may wake him up." 13:45 Then his disciples said, 13:46 "Lord, if he sleeps he will get well." 13:48 However, Jesus spoke of his death, 13:52 but they thought that he was speaking 13:53 about taking rest in sleep. 13:55 Then Jesus said to them plainly, 13:58 "Lazarus is dead." 14:01 Contrary to the views expressed 14:04 by a thousand theologians, 14:06 the Bible teaches that death is a sleep. 14:11 Therefore the Blessed Virgin Mary, 14:13 and Saint Peter, 14:14 and Saint Paul are not interceding, 14:17 they're sleeping and waiting the resurrection. 14:20 John 5:28 and 29, 14:23 you can see the great significance of this. 14:26 "Do not marvel at this for the hour is coming in 14:28 which all who are in the graves will hear," 14:31 Well, He didn't say all those who are in purgatory and hell. 14:34 "Will here his voice and come forth 14:36 those who have done good, 14:38 to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, 14:41 to the resurrection of condemnation or damnation." 14:43 The Bible teaches that 14:45 the saints are sleeping in the grave, 14:48 are awaiting the life call of Christ. 14:53 Now come over here to 1 Corinthians 15:3-6, 14:56 1 Corinthians 15 14:57 and you can see we use Sola Scriptura. 15:02 And some people when they hear this rejoice, 15:06 others get angry, 15:09 because I wish to hold on to old traditions 15:13 which in the end will damn their souls. 15:15 1 Corinthians 15:3-6, 15:18 "For I delivered to you first of all 15:20 that which I received, that Christ died for our sins 15:24 according to the Scriptures, 15:26 and that he was buried, 15:28 and that he rose again the third day 15:29 according to the Scriptures, 15:31 and that he was seen by Cephas, 15:33 then by the twelve. 15:34 After that he was seen by over 500 brethren at once, 15:38 of whom the greater part remain to the present, 15:41 but some have fallen asleep." 15:45 So the Bible says, 15:46 that some of the saints back in those days 15:49 had already died they had fallen asleep. 15:53 And listen very carefully, 15:55 therefore there are no people in hell, 16:01 no people in purgatory and no people in heaven. 16:06 The dead is sleeping 16:08 awaiting the resurrection of the righteous 16:10 or the damned. 16:12 Everybody is going to be raised. 16:14 The idea that the saints can help us is a great deception, 16:18 thus the true church is built upon the living Christ, 16:24 not upon a dead man. 16:29 Now when the great Catholic Church, 16:31 that we love and respect 16:33 when it says our church is built upon Peter 16:37 they've disqualified themselves 16:39 from being the spouse of Christ. 16:46 Because a dead church is built upon a dead man, 16:51 but the living church is built upon a living Christ 16:57 and Christ is my savior, Christ is my redeemer, 17:01 Christ is my deliverer, 17:03 and Christ is going to resurrect me 17:05 one day from the grave. 17:08 It is vain to pray for the dead, 17:12 because the dead are no longer in a state 17:16 where they can be saved. 17:18 If you want to be saved, you get, 17:20 better get saved while you still can breathe, 17:24 because once you've died, 17:26 your fate is sealed for time and eternity. 17:32 I had an old man come to me once, 17:36 came to my meetings, 17:37 invited me to his home they called him Pops. 17:41 Met his wife later on met his children. 17:44 All this was in the little town of parks on the outer Barcoo 17:48 where the churches are few in Australia. 17:52 Pops died, they asked me to burry him. 17:57 I said, yes, it's my sad privilege. 18:00 The family members came to me 18:03 with ones of pound notes. 18:09 Thousands of pounds take this. 18:11 We want you to pray for Pops to get him out of purgatory. 18:16 I said, no, you're not talking to a Catholic priest. 18:20 Pops is safe in the arms of God 18:23 because he died with his faith in Christ 18:25 and he's going to be raised in the resurrection, 18:28 this idea of praying for the dead 18:31 and charging people is the abomination of desolation. 18:36 Most ungodly most wicked, 18:41 worse than Wall Street. 18:43 That's saying something. 18:46 Now number 12 18:49 the voice of prophecy. 18:52 Come over here to Daniel 7, 18:55 the voice of prophecy. 18:58 We're not referring 18:59 to the great radio program either. 19:01 Daniel 7:7, this is a prophecy 19:06 you can get one of my tapes on this and see it. 19:08 "After this I saw in the night visions, 19:10 and behold, a fourth beast, 19:12 dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. 19:14 It had huge iron teeth; 19:15 it was devouring, breaking in pieces, 19:17 and trampling the residue with its feet. 19:19 It was different from all the beasts 19:21 that were before it, and it had ten horns." 19:24 Verse 8, "I consider the horns, and there was another horn, 19:27 a little one, coming up among them, 19:29 before three of the first horns 19:31 were plucked out by the roots. 19:33 And there, in this horn, 19:34 were eyes like the eyes of a man, 19:36 and a mouth speaking pompous words." 19:38 This is the antichrist that is conceited 19:42 by Catholics and Protestants. 19:44 Look at verse 24 and 25, 19:48 "The ten horns are ten kings 19:50 who shall arise from this kingdom. 19:51 And another shall rise after them, 19:53 He shall be different from the first ones, 19:55 and shall subdue three kings. 19:57 He shall speak pompous words against the most high, 20:01 shall persecute the saints of the most high, 20:04 and shall intend to change times and laws. 20:07 Then the saints shall be given into his hand 20:09 for a time and times and half a time." 20:12 And we cannot go into that. 20:14 Except to say that the dragon beast, 20:18 every commentator agrees, Roman Catholics, Jews, 20:21 everybody Protestant, 20:23 that is pagan Rome. 20:24 And the ten horns are symbolic 20:28 of the breakup of the Roman Empire into the kingdoms 20:31 and the states of Europe. 20:33 And the antichrist arises upon the ruins 20:39 of the Roman Empire in Europe. 20:46 Now who is he? 20:48 Now most people 20:50 know nothing about this subject. 20:55 We've had some of the biggest audiences in the world, 20:58 hear these great topics. 21:02 More recently in the biggest stadium 21:05 in Latin America, 21:06 when I spoke on this subject. 21:08 Now I'll read to you the great church leaders, 21:11 Thomas Cranmer Archbishop of Canterbury, England. 21:15 He said, "As for the Pope, 21:17 I refuse him as Christ's enemy and Antichrist." 21:22 He wrote the book of Come and Pray. 21:25 See also the preference of the King James Version 21:28 where the papacy is called the man of sin. 21:31 John Knox who raised up the Presbyterian judge said, 21:35 "Yeah, we doubt not to prove the kingdom of the Pope 21:37 to be the kingdom and power Antichrist." 21:40 John Wesley in his book, 21:42 Antichrist and his Ten Kingdoms, 21:44 "The Pope is in an emphatic sense the Man of Sin." 21:49 Charles Spurgeon the greatest preachers since Paul, some say. 21:55 "Then the world changed its tactics, 21:58 it became nominally Christian, 22:02 and Antichrist came forth in all its blasphemous glory. 22:06 The Pope of Rome put on the triple crown, 22:09 and called himself the Vicar of Christ. 22:12 Then came in the abomination of the worship of saints, 22:15 angels, images, and pictures, 22:16 then came the mass, and I know not what, 22:20 of detestable error." 22:25 Ellen White the Adventist prophet said this, 22:29 "The papacy is just what prophecy 22:31 declared that she would be, 22:33 the apostasy of the latter times... 22:36 it is prepared for two classes of mankind, 22:38 embracing nearly the whole world 22:40 those who would be saved by their merits, 22:42 and those who would be saved in their sins. 22:46 God's word has given warning of the impending danger, 22:49 let this be unheeded, 22:51 and the Protestant world will learn 22:53 what the purposes of Rome really are, 22:57 only when it is too late to escape the snare. 23:00 She is silently growing in power 23:04 she is piling up her lofty 23:06 and massive structures in the secret recesses 23:10 of which her former persecutions will be repeated." 23:17 Now the question is concerning 23:19 Ellen White and this statement, was she wrong? 23:25 Some would like to think she was wrong, 23:27 because of political correctness 23:30 where today we're not allowed to preach the truth. 23:35 And was she wrong? 23:37 She reflected the thinking of Protestant Bible scholars, 23:41 she was not politically correct. 23:45 She also said that 23:46 the majority of God's true children 23:48 were found in churches beyond her own. 23:52 Especially the Catholic Church 23:54 and she said God was going to bring them out. 23:57 She loved Catholics as we do, 24:00 but was opposed to the papal system. 24:08 Now we come to a conclusion and a resolution, 24:14 therefore 24:18 we will love our Catholic brothers and sisters. 24:22 There'll be no hate speech, and no bigotry. 24:27 We will seek their personal friendship. 24:32 We will do all in our power to help them. 24:37 We will share Christ and God's word with them, 24:41 and we will share with them the true gospel of Christ. 24:46 But we will not return to Rome 24:52 until Rome returns to Christ, 24:55 and the holy Bible, 24:58 amen, amen, amen. 25:03 And there was a great Roman Catholic scholar, 25:05 his name was John Huss who lived in Bohemia. 25:10 And John Huss because of his faith 25:12 was burnt by the Church of Rome at the stake, 25:15 they brunt in their history 25:17 hundreds of thousands even millions, 25:19 of Roman Catholics, Protestants, and Jews. 25:23 Go and get your encyclopedia, 25:27 they burnt him at the stake 25:29 but before they burn him at the stake, 25:31 John Huss sent back this message 25:34 to the Bohemian Protestants. 25:38 All Roman Catholics are standing up for God, 25:43 he said believe the truth, 25:48 love the truth, live the truth, 25:53 therefore I say to the television audience 25:55 and to you, 25:57 believe the truth, 26:00 love the truth, live the truth, 26:04 so help us God. 26:07 Amen. 26:15 We should never say something is impossible 26:18 because Jesus said, 26:20 with God all things are possible. 26:23 It seems impossible to think that a group of Americans 26:28 and Australians could come here to Castro's communist Cuba 26:33 and preach the gospel. 26:35 We're here with the permission of the Cuban Government. 26:38 We've got special visas so we can preach here. 26:43 I've had the privilege 26:44 of preaching in the most difficult places, 26:46 Moscow all across Russia, all around Ukraine, 26:50 dangerous places in Africa, 26:53 but this is one of the biggest miracles of all, 26:56 here we are, 26:57 the Carter Report team, just a little team. 27:01 But we're here by the grace of God, 27:04 because with God all things are possible. 27:08 But God works through people, 27:10 He's working, glory be to God, 27:13 we believe through us, 27:15 but he is also working my friend, 27:17 through you 27:19 because of your prayers and your support, your gifts. 27:23 These people many of them are hearing 27:26 the true gospel of Christ for the first time. 27:29 So my heart is full of thanks to God and to you today. 27:35 Would you please drop me a line 27:37 John Carter P.O. Box 1900, Thousand Oaks, 27:40 California 91358, 27:43 and of course you can write to me at Terrigal, 27:46 in Australia. 27:48 Let's get a fire going in this country. 27:52 We have established 27:54 a beach head on the shores of Castro's Cuba, 27:59 a gospel beachhead, not a military one. 28:02 We are the ambassadors of peace 28:05 and we've come here to preach the gospel of peace. 28:09 Stand with us and thank you for your support. 28:17 For a copy of today's program, 28:19 please contact us at P.O.
