00:02 and now in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. 00:04 I'm John Carter in Petra. 00:06 Reporting from India. 00:08 In Colombia. 00:09 I'm John Carter. 00:11 Today, on the Carter Report, 00:13 John Carter brings us a report from Putin's New Russia. 00:17 John Carter with the KGB. 00:21 Welcome back to this first hand report 00:24 from Mr. Putin's New Russia. 00:28 Just come back from Russia 00:29 and we have seen some amazing things. 00:33 This was my 49th visit 00:36 to the lands of the old Soviet Union. 00:39 And I have seen there the mighty power of God. 00:42 I want to reminisce a little bit 00:43 and tell you some of the great things 00:45 we've seen over the years. 00:47 I want to talk to you and tell you about the story 00:49 of our meeting with the KGB. 00:52 Now these guys have got a new name today 00:54 but it's still the same organization. 00:57 In '92, we were running this great campaign in the old city, 01:00 the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, 01:03 used to be called the city of Gorky. 01:06 We had tremendous crowds of people coming. 01:08 One night, this will be hard to believe. 01:12 This lady came to see me and she said, 01:14 "The KGB general would like to meet you." 01:17 Oh, yeah. 01:18 I told the church leaders, 01:20 they thought it was funny, they said, 01:21 "Any time the KGB wants to talk to us 01:23 is to pull out our fingernails. 01:26 But anyhow, this lady kept coming. 01:29 She was a colonel in the KGB. 01:32 And then she said, 01:34 "The KGB general has been in the audience every night. 01:38 Can we bring him around the back?" 01:40 I said, "You know, we'd be honored." 01:41 So General Vladimir came around the back. 01:44 He looked at me in the eye and he said, 01:46 "Pastor Carter, I want to tell you something. 01:49 I teach the people all the secrets about the KGB, 01:51 we've got a training college here. 01:53 Would you come to our training college? 01:55 Would you talk to our officers?" 01:57 I said, "Yes, of course." 01:59 He said, "We might be the KGB." 02:01 But then he put his hand here and he said, 02:03 "We still have souls." 02:06 He said we still have souls. 02:09 And so I was taken to the KGB headquarters 02:12 in Nizhny Novgorod. 02:14 This gentleman is a colonel. 02:16 This is General Vladimir who became my friend. 02:19 And this gentleman over here 02:21 is also or was a colonel in the KGB. 02:24 They sent around two black cars and picked up our team, 02:28 took us to the KGB headquarters, 02:31 gave us a tremendous meal. 02:33 At the end of the meal, 02:34 General Vladimir got to have some vodka, 02:36 and he said, "Now, Pastor Carter, 02:38 you're going to come and preach to my man." 02:40 He said, "Will you have a toast in vodka?" 02:45 I said, "I don't think so, General." 02:47 He said, "Why not?" 02:48 I said, 02:50 "Because of my religious convictions, 02:51 I don't drink alcohol." 02:53 He said, 02:54 "You're the strangest man I've ever met." 02:57 We went in and there we met 03:00 a thousand young officers of the KGB. 03:05 I had no idea what I was going to say 03:06 but I started to preach from the Bible. 03:09 I told them why I believe the Bible 03:10 then I told them the story of salvation, 03:13 I told them about Christ. 03:15 Can you believe this? 03:16 This is in the headquarters of the KGB. 03:19 And then I felt 03:20 the power of God come down upon me 03:23 and I had an altar call. 03:26 And when they came down the front, 03:27 they crowded around me so much, 03:29 they thought I would be crushed to death. 03:32 We baptized some of those people. 03:33 When we were in Nizhny Novgorod just a few weeks ago, 03:38 a message came from those same people, 03:41 "We are glad you are here and we welcome you back." 03:45 Can you believe this? 03:46 We actually baptized some of those people 03:49 down in Volga river members of the KGB. 03:53 People say, "I can't believe it." 03:55 My friend, according to your faith 03:57 be it unto you. 03:58 I want to talk to you about the pastor in Dzerzhinsk, 04:01 that's the city next to Nizhny Novgorod. 04:05 We are running this campaign in Gorky, Nizhny Novgorod, 04:11 tens of thousands of people coming every day 04:13 preaching every night. 04:16 We saw the mighty power of God. 04:18 And then this man here 04:20 asked me to come over to his church. 04:23 He didn't have a church, not a church building. 04:26 I said, "I can't come. I can't get away. 04:28 I hardly have time to sleep." 04:31 But anyhow, he begged and begged, 04:33 and I hired the palace of support 04:36 over there in Dzerzhinsk 04:38 which is named after Dzerzhinsky, 04:40 the founder of the KGB. 04:42 When I went over there 04:43 they told the people I'd be coming, 04:44 I could not even get into the street. 04:48 The people were everywhere, 04:50 thousands of people outside, inside. 04:53 I went in, I preached my heart out, 04:55 I said, "I can't come back. 04:57 But I can give you some videotapes 05:00 that we recorded in the Shrine Auditorium 05:02 in Los Angeles." 05:04 This is true. 05:05 This pastor was transferred after that campaign 05:08 down to Kazan, 05:12 which is the headquarters of the Muslims, a Muslim city. 05:17 He had no money for a budget. 05:18 There's no money for evangelism today in the church 05:21 unless you raise it like me. 05:23 And so this pastor went from door to door 05:26 with my videos preaching Christ. 05:31 And Hildar, the Godfather got a copy. 05:36 This is true. 05:38 And he looked at them. 05:40 And by the grace of God, 05:42 he was converted instantaneously. 05:46 I'm telling you. I'm telling you. 05:48 He was converted instantaneously, 05:50 he sold his big house that had been built upon drugs, 05:54 and he built a cathedral for God's church. 05:57 I saw him only very, very recently. 06:00 Hildar the silly. 06:03 These men now... 06:04 These are my friends. 06:08 This is the ex Godfather. 06:11 This guy is okay. 06:14 This guy came out from Crimea to see me, 06:17 a leader of the mafia. 06:19 This man has just been baptized. 06:21 How were they won? 06:23 Through the preaching of the Word of God. 06:25 Amen. 06:27 I want you folks to know 06:28 that there's power in the name of Jesus. 06:33 Then we had this tremendous baptism. 06:37 This was in '92 when we started the work of God there. 06:40 This is my old friend Danny Shelton 06:44 who became my partner in evangelism. 06:46 We went down to the Volga River. 06:48 You know, the people 06:50 who actually served as our deacons. 06:53 We set up the tents, helped the people get dressed, 06:57 the Russian army. 07:00 The officers of the Russian army, 07:03 and there we had the largest baptism. 07:06 I think after that time in the history of Russia, 07:11 thousands and thousands, 07:13 including members of the KGB and Russian soldiers. 07:19 Now as the meetings carried on 07:21 and we saw the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, 07:25 we got a phone call from the governor 07:29 of the province saying, 07:30 "Pastor Carter, I want you to come 07:33 to the Kremlin in Nizhny Novgorod. 07:36 And this is where I met this man 07:38 who became my friend, 07:40 who became the greatest advocate of freedom 07:45 in modern times in Russia, Boris Nemtsov. 07:51 I explained to him democracy, 07:54 the separation of church and state. 07:58 He became one of the great leaders 08:00 in the Russian parliament. 08:03 Tragically, just a little while ago, 08:07 he was gunned down outside the Kremlin in Moscow. 08:12 This is his sister Dr. Julia Outkina 08:17 whom I had the privilege of baptizing. 08:21 A doctorate from Leningrad University, 08:25 now the person in charge of 3ABN Russia, 08:31 a great evangelist, a great preacher 08:35 of the gospel of Jesus. 08:37 My friend, how great is God? 08:40 I'm asking you. 08:42 We have seen the power of God, 08:48 and we've had an influence 08:49 that has reached even inside the walls of the Kremlin. 08:55 Now after we had this tremendous baptism, 08:58 there was no place to take the new converts, 09:01 but Danny Shelton was there. 09:03 And God moved upon the heart of Danny Shelton, 09:06 and we went to this place that looked like 09:08 a bombed-out building from the days of the blitz 09:14 in the World War II. 09:16 The communists were going to build 09:18 a great cathedral dedicated to atheism 09:21 for the communist youth. 09:23 But Danny said, 09:25 "We're going to buy the ruins, 09:26 we're going to buy the foundation." 09:28 There's nothing there. 09:30 People say, "It can't be done." 09:32 We had people come to us standing, 09:34 and I had people, 09:36 they came to us, and they said, 09:37 "You know it can't be done. 09:39 You can't get the money. 09:40 And if you get the money, and if you put the building up, 09:43 it's going to fall down. 09:44 And even if it doesn't fall down, 09:46 nobody's going to come." 09:48 This is now the 3ABN Russia building. 09:53 It is the largest protestant building 09:57 in all of Russia. 09:59 It was built 10:00 because Danny Shelton had faith in God. 10:04 I'm telling you, with God, nothing shall be impossible. 10:10 This is where we held a meeting just a couple weeks ago. 10:13 I was preaching in this place, it has a tremendous auditorium. 10:17 It is now a television center. 10:19 We did a television program there. 10:21 Who could believe this? 10:23 A big television center, 10:25 the biggest center of its kind in the whole of Russia, 10:30 built by Adventist laypeople for the glory of God. 10:36 Now some time back, 10:37 I was flying with Aeroflot over Siberia. 10:40 They've got, today, the latest freight 10:43 but in those days they had pretty old planes. 10:46 But this is one of their new planes. 10:48 I was flying over Siberia, 10:52 and I believe Beverley was with me. 10:54 And the crew came out and they stood around me, 10:57 and I said, 10:59 "We heard you're on board." 11:00 Can you believe this? 11:02 Thirty eight thousand feet over Siberia. 11:04 Who knows me? Nobody knows me. 11:06 They said, 11:08 "We've been to your meetings, 11:10 we've seen what God has been doing for you." 11:13 And where He had to say, 11:15 "Slava Bogu, praise God. 11:17 And would you honor us 11:19 by putting your name in our book 11:23 that every plane has." 11:28 I marveled what God had done. 11:33 We've heard they said. 11:35 Places where God took us, Moscow, 11:38 and I got to go through this pretty fast. 11:40 Moscow in 1991, 11:43 the first ever full sky evangelistic campaign 11:47 by a foreigner in the Soviet Union. 11:50 This was when communism was still ruling. 11:53 This is the audience in the Palace of Culture 11:57 down the road from the Kremlin. 11:59 People say, "It can't be done." 12:01 Then the next year, we went to Nizhny Novgorod. 12:05 We were proud to go to the city of Sakharov. 12:10 He was the father of the Soviet hydrogen bomb 12:15 I believe, 12:16 and he was sent there as a dissident 12:19 because he wouldn't kowtow 12:21 to atheism and communism. 12:23 We went to his city. 12:25 And we saw the power of God. 12:29 We saw... 12:30 I don't say any longer, 12:33 I'm looking forward to seeing Pentecost, 12:35 I have seen Pentecost. 12:37 I have seen the power of God. 12:41 I have seen Him. 12:44 We went to Dzerzhinsk, named after Dzerzhinsky. 12:49 I ran a campaign there with video 12:52 so hundreds of people 12:53 so I went to St Petersburg. 12:57 And this... 12:58 They say, you couldn't hire a place like this, 13:00 we hired it, and glory be to God, 13:02 we filled it 13:04 time after time after time for weeks. 13:09 So many people saved. 13:11 We went to Irkutsk in Siberia, preached in winter, 13:17 and preached in summer, preached in storms, 13:21 preached when the lightning was flashing, 13:24 preached and preached Christ, 13:27 and we saw hundreds and hundreds, 13:30 thousands of souls come to Christ. 13:33 Went to Volgograd 13:35 that saw the greatest battle of the World War II, 13:37 they say, two million people died 13:41 fighting over Volgograd. 13:44 Went to Kazan, they said to us, 13:46 "One preacher can't go to East Kazan 13:49 because it's a Muslim center." 13:53 Other people said to me, 13:54 "You can't baptize Muslims." 13:56 Well, tell that to Jesus. Amen. 13:59 Tell that to Jesus. 14:01 And in Kazan, Hildar city, 14:06 we saw the power of God. 14:09 We had a baptism in front of the mosque. 14:11 In Ukraine, we went to Kiev, 14:17 this great country of Ukraine. 14:20 We went to Kiev. 14:22 The meetings were so successful. 14:28 A Hundred thousand people couldn't get inside. 14:32 A Hundred thousand... 14:34 Now people say, "No, that doesn't happen today." 14:36 I've spoken to people in Australia 14:38 and the people in America 14:40 who do not understand 14:42 the things of the spirit of God. 14:44 Their vision is this big, 14:46 it extends to the end of their own noses 14:49 you've met them. 14:50 The people will say, 14:52 "No", people who are opposed to evangelism, 14:54 the people who are opposed to the preaching of the Bible. 14:58 The people who believe everything 15:00 except for what God says. 15:02 But here 100,000 people turned away 15:06 and look at the crowd. 15:09 We saw, baptized in the slightly radioactive, 15:16 cold waters of the Napier River 15:18 3,530 communists, atheists, 15:24 unbelievers baptized 15:26 in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. 15:30 We've seen the power of God. 15:33 In Ukraine, we went to Dnepropetrovsk. 15:38 We saw thousands come to Christ. 15:40 We went to Kharkov and we saw thousands come to Christ. 15:46 We went to Odessa down on the Black Sea, 15:49 we saw thousands come to Christ. 15:51 We went to Zaporozhye, Russia with a... 15:55 The Cossacks tried to run us out of town. 16:00 We know what it is to see persecution 16:02 but we saw the power of God in Ukraine. 16:11 Why? Well, it's simple. 16:15 We didn't have special talent, we just happened to be willing. 16:19 We were in the right place at the right time. 16:23 You know, Romans 8:28, it says... 16:25 Romans 8:28, 16:28 "We know that all things work together for good 16:30 to those who love God, to those who are the called," 16:33 what does it say, "according to His purpose." 16:35 God has got a purpose. 16:37 And the most important thing you and I can do 16:39 is to be in the plan and the purpose of God 16:43 and put away our cowardice. 16:46 Now let me answer this question. 16:48 How does the church pastor find money 16:50 to pay for all his campaigns? 16:51 'Cause I had to find all the money. 16:55 Well, Danny Shelton has helped me. 16:58 These campaigns cost 16:59 millions and millions and millions of dollars. 17:01 You say, "That's not a lot." You try raising it. 17:05 I want to tell you something, 17:06 there's no limit to His grace and His power. 17:10 Now this story here 17:12 is not to get you folks to do the same, 17:13 but if the Lord impresses you, that's good. 17:16 A man told me with his own mouth, 17:20 he set down to write the Carter Report 17:23 a check for $1,000. 17:25 That's good. It's good. 17:27 You know, he wrote down, 17:30 pay to Carter Report $1,000 and a voice said to him, 17:35 "Make it $10,000." 17:38 No, I'm not making this out, folks. 17:40 He continued to write $1,000, 17:42 "No, I told you, make it $10,000." 17:46 He said, "I said $1,000." 17:48 The voice said, "Make it $10,000." 17:51 He said, "Okay, make it 10,000." 17:53 Man said, "Here's the $10,000" 17:56 He said, "I can take no credit. 17:59 The Holy Spirit told me in a voice, 18:02 'make it $10,000.'" 18:06 Whatever God tells you to do, 18:09 He will supply the means and the money. 18:12 And our problem is not lack of money, 18:14 our problem is lack of faith. 18:18 I meet people all the time, even in the church, 18:20 even in the ministry, 18:22 "Oh, it can't be done." 18:23 No, it's impossible. 18:24 We don't talk like this. 18:26 No, no. 18:28 You are like, 18:30 "Hey, don't be talking like that..." 18:31 I mean, what's wrong with them? 18:36 I said to people like that, 18:38 "Make it 10. 18:40 Make it 10." 18:43 We ran this campaign in the city of Dzerzhinsk, 18:46 named after Dzerzhinsky, the founder of the KGB. 18:50 They didn't have a church. 18:51 There were no churches, 18:53 Protestant churches in Dzerzhinsk, 18:56 but we had a great baptism. 18:59 What we got to do with these people? 19:02 Oh, there was a couple back in Australia, 19:04 they heard about it, 19:05 Lorraine Hazel Jones, 19:07 some of the great saints of God from the land down under. 19:12 They sent me the money 19:14 that they got by the grace of God, 19:18 it was exactly enough to build this church. 19:24 Now they got a church. 19:26 My God will supply all your needs. 19:29 I go to some churches and they say, 19:31 "We couldn't have a television wall, 19:33 we couldn't have that." 19:34 You know, why you don't have it? 19:36 Because, you don't have vision, 19:38 you don't belong to the mission. 19:41 You're living down in the low lands. 19:43 You got no faith. 19:45 Start to believe the Bible. 19:48 Believe in the God who believes in you. 19:50 The Bible says, 19:51 "My God will supply all your needs." 19:55 Then we ran a campaign 19:58 right next to the Volga Auto Plant, 20:00 one of the biggest buildings in the world, 20:04 but we had no church. 20:05 We baptized 1,200 people, no church. 20:08 But an old man here in Los Angeles 20:11 by the name of Charles, he said, 20:15 "We got to build a church." 20:16 Here it is getting built. 20:18 He said, "What do you need?" 20:19 I said, "$100,000" 20:21 "When do you need it?" "I need it now." 20:23 "Here it is." 20:25 Yeah. 20:27 Yes, my folks, my folks, listen to this, 20:30 "According to your faith be it unto you." 20:35 We've seen the power of God. 20:38 We're not a big ministry. 20:41 We just happen to do big things. 20:43 Amen. 20:45 You see, not a big ministry, 20:48 we just happen to do big things 20:50 because we work for a big God. 20:52 Amen. You see. 20:54 Now let me tell you about Nizhny, 2017. 20:57 There are new laws. 20:59 The Putin government has brought about new laws, 21:02 far and unlike John Carter 21:03 just can't go to Russia and preach. 21:06 You got to get missionary licenses. 21:08 Some people said, 21:10 "Well, you're not gonna get them of course, 21:11 that's impossible." 21:12 But we got them. 21:14 And after we started up the program... 21:18 Before we started, 21:20 I had a big Russian flag put down in the front, 21:23 big Russian flag. 21:24 When you put a Russian flag, 21:25 why did you put an American one? 21:27 Go to prison? You kidding? 21:28 Put a Russian flag. 21:31 It was televised, 21:33 and the people and the whole series 21:35 as we made into a television series, 21:37 and they took that section 21:39 and they took it to the Kremlin for Putin to see. 21:44 You see, we went there for a number of reasons 21:48 and one was not to fall out with the government 21:53 but to make friends, and we did. 21:58 Moscow government sent us a message, 22:01 "We'll take care of you. We like you." 22:06 We had no persecution, we had no resistance, 22:08 we had no opposition, 22:10 God gave us favor in the eyes of the people 22:12 and the government. 22:13 What were the Russians like to us? 22:15 They could not have been nicer 22:17 or kinder or more generous. 22:22 Don't confuse the Russian people 22:24 with the policies of the Kremlin. 22:28 The new Russia, 22:29 well, the streets are full of imported cars, 22:33 new buildings, new planes, new trains 22:37 that whisk along at 120 miles an hour. 22:44 Look at some of these buildings, 22:46 the newest fleet of aircraft in the world, super trains. 22:58 But I'm going to tell you folks something. 23:04 Our biggest problem is not persecution. 23:10 Prosperity is the enemy of the gospel. 23:13 Great changes have taken place 23:15 in spite of difficulties however. 23:18 I spoke on Russian television every night. 23:22 They say, "It's impossible!" 23:24 Well, no. 23:26 Despite of difficulties, 23:27 we saw souls saved and baptized, 23:31 we saw the church strengthened, 23:33 we saw the production of a new TV series 23:37 to be distributed right across Russia. 23:40 We were supported by the 3ABN Russia Team, 23:44 the American Carter Report Team, 23:47 Dr. John Hammond from Australia, 23:49 the prayers of our church leaders around the world, 23:56 Elder Wilson prayed that God would fill us 23:59 with the Holy Ghost, and God did. 24:02 And this is the set, there's a Russian flag. 24:07 Danny Shelton and his wife, Beverley, and me, 24:10 I have so much to be thankful for. 24:13 David shot the television commercials, 24:16 done differently to any other religious organization 24:22 which has brought out the biggest crowds, 24:26 secular crowds in the history of Christianity. 24:30 You say, "I don't believe it." 24:31 Well, you don't have to. 24:33 It just happens to be true. 24:35 We saw... 24:36 This is the 3ABN crew, 24:39 some of the Carter Report crew, my translator. 24:42 I just love these people and I think they love us too. 24:48 So what can I say? 24:52 Here we see people coming forward. 24:56 My translator from Zaoksky University. 24:58 We now have a university in Russia. 25:02 People say, "No, you can't do these things." 25:03 "Hey, step out of the darkness, brother. 25:07 Start to have faith in God. 25:09 Put your money into the work of God, 25:12 but put it basically into evangelism." 25:18 I've gone there 49 times 25:20 because I've seen the power of God. 25:25 I know. 25:27 Listen to me, I want to tell you something. 25:29 I know Jesus is alive. 25:33 Amen. 25:34 I know He is alive, 25:39 and I know that the gospel is the power of God 25:45 and to salvation to everyone who believes. 25:48 Amen.
