00:01 Welcome to a new Carter Report series,
00:03 The Game Changers. 00:05 These rare individuals appear once in a lifetime. 00:09 Like a blazing meteor across the night sky, 00:12 they change the course of history. 00:15 They show us the way forward. 00:18 Welcome to The Game Changers. 00:25 I want to give you today 00:27 a tremendous welcome to this program 00:30 because you are going to enjoy it, 00:33 and you're going to be better after it. 00:36 Starting in 1927 Time magazine, you'll read Time magazine? 00:42 Time magazine selected a man or a woman of the year. 00:48 In 1999, the category was enlarged 00:51 to person of the year, 00:55 someone who had made a worldwide impact 01:00 for good or for bad. 01:04 In more recent times, it's basically for the person 01:08 whom they think maybe 01:11 has made an impact for good. 01:15 Hitler in 1938... 01:18 Can you believe this? 01:20 Man of the year, he made an impact. 01:23 Stalin in 1939 01:28 and a repeat in 1942, the man of blood, 01:33 killed about 60 million people. 01:35 Wallis Simpson in 1936. 01:39 Who's heard of Wallis Simpson? 01:41 You haven't heard of Wallis Simpson? 01:44 I'm disgusted. 01:46 Wallis Simpson was the lady 01:49 who ran off with the King of England. 01:54 And he was forced... 01:55 And she was an American, 02:01 a divorcee. 02:05 And so he was forced to abdicate, 02:08 but she made it, woman of the year. 02:11 Queen Elizabeth, 02:13 you all know the Queen of England, 02:16 the great Queen 1952, woman of the year. 02:22 Churchill, the man of the half-century, 02:25 the man who saved the world, hopefully the democracy. 02:31 Gorbachev, 1989, man of the decade, 02:35 you know of Gorbachev, don't you? 02:37 One of my great heroes, 02:40 the man who broke down the walls 02:44 of separation between the Soviet Union and us. 02:47 He brought in if my memory is working, 02:50 glasnost and perestroika. 02:54 Yeah, great man. 02:56 Man of the decade, Martin Luther King. 03:00 Man of the year in 1963, who brought in civil rights 03:05 especially for our black brothers and sisters. 03:08 And in 2016, 03:13 Donald Trump, man of the year. 03:18 All the presidents have become 03:21 man of the year except three. 03:26 Einstein in 1999 03:30 was the person of the century 03:34 because really he gave us the hydrogen bomb. 03:38 1999 was the year 03:39 where it's changed to person of the year, 03:44 and in 2015, it was Angela Merkel. 03:49 You know who she is? 03:51 The Chancellor of Germany 03:53 and really a significant person. 03:57 All of these people had one thing in common. 04:01 They're all great game changers, 04:03 people who've made a significant contribution 04:08 in some way or the other to the human race. 04:11 Now today, we are starting 04:13 a new dynamic and marvelous series, 04:17 The Game Changers, 04:20 the most important people in history, 04:22 more important than Times people. 04:25 Most important people in history, 04:27 in the history of the world, 04:29 and all of these people without an exception 04:31 have been game changers 04:34 who changed the world for the better. 04:38 People show us how to die and possibly, 04:43 more importantly how to live, 04:46 who reveal the spiritual secrets of success 04:49 over and beyond. 04:53 We can learn so much from the game changers, 04:56 God's game changers. 04:58 I promise you the game changers will change you 05:03 and will bless you. 05:06 And the first game changer we're starting with today 05:11 is one of the greatest people 05:13 who've ever walked upon planet earth. 05:18 One of the greatest of all human beings 05:21 almost without a peer, 05:23 his name is Moses, 05:28 the prince of Egypt, 05:29 the man who could have been king. 05:33 And I want to turn in the Bible 05:34 to Hebrews 11:23, my friends, 05:39 going to turn over here to the Book of Hebrews 05:43 in the New Testament. 05:46 And this book, of course, was written to the Hebrews, 05:49 all the Jewish people. 05:51 Hebrews 11:23, it says, 05:55 "By faith Moses, when he was born, 06:01 was hidden three months by his parents, 06:05 because they saw he was a beautiful child, 06:10 and they were not afraid of the king's command." 06:15 Egypt, have you been to Egypt? 06:19 Some of you've been to Egypt. 06:20 I've been to Egypt many, many, many times. 06:24 Did you know this Egypt was the world's superpower, 06:28 Egypt ruled the whole of the world, 06:32 all the then known world for more than 2,000 years. 06:35 Has a history that goes back thousands 06:38 and thousands of years. 06:40 And Moses was the prince of Egypt 06:44 who could have been the king. 06:48 The pyramids 06:50 were a thousand years old 06:54 when Moses was born. 06:56 And so he was born 06:58 into a mature 07:00 and advanced civilization. 07:04 Amazing. 07:06 He was born 3,500 years ago 07:11 at the height of Egypt's power. 07:14 I've had the privilege of going 07:16 into the Cairo Museum on many occasions, 07:19 walking around the streets of Egypt's great cities 07:25 with my friend Randall Younker, 07:28 one of the world's greatest biblical archaeologists 07:31 from Andrews University. 07:33 And when you go to this place, 07:35 you have a sense that you are walking 07:38 in the footsteps 07:40 of the greatest people or some of the greatest people. 07:45 When Moses was born at the height of Egypt's power, 07:48 he was born at the time of... 07:52 Now, listen to this 07:53 'cause it's almost too hard to believe, 07:55 he was born at the time of the Moses kings. 07:58 Did you know this? 08:01 Most of the kings 08:02 during this time have got Moses, 08:04 which is an Egyptian word in their name, 08:07 Tutmose, Ahmoses, Rameses, 08:11 whom we call Rameses, and so forth. 08:14 So he was born at the time of the Moses kings. 08:18 The children of Israel had been living in Egypt 08:20 for hundreds of years. 08:23 You know the story of how 08:25 Israel or Jacob went down into the land of Egypt, 08:29 and the people multiplied tremendously, 08:32 and they became a security threat 08:36 to the Pharaoh. 08:37 And the Pharaoh sent out a decree 08:39 that they were to become slaves. 08:41 There is evidence of Semitic slavery 08:45 in the land of Egypt. 08:47 I've seen it with my eyes. 08:48 And finally, in desperation, Pharaoh made this decree, 08:52 kill not the girls but kill the boys. 08:58 And there was this beautiful little baby boy 09:02 who was born and his mother in desperation 09:07 took him down to the mighty Nile River. 09:13 And she placed him in this little basket 09:17 and she let him go 09:20 upon the bosom of the Nile River. 09:24 And the Bible tells a story 09:25 that the princess came down to bathe. 09:32 And she saw this basket and she opened the basket 09:36 and her heart was touched by the crying of a baby. 09:40 Now, I'm somewhat convinced 09:46 that we know who this princess was. 09:49 I think it was the woman 09:50 who created this great, great marvelous temple 09:54 that is called Deir El-Bahari 09:57 which is on the west bank of the River Nile at Luxor. 10:01 Dr. Randall Younker, I believe is a great scholar. 10:06 And I think he would indicate from the Bible 10:09 that the princess 10:10 was Princess Hatshepsut 10:15 who became the Pharaoh. 10:17 But the interesting thing is this, 10:20 she goes down, she sees the baby, 10:24 and then there's a little girl there. 10:28 And the little girl say... 10:29 The little girl's name is Miriam. 10:32 I want you to notice the text however in the Bible, 10:35 Exodus 2:1-3. 10:40 Exodus 2:1-3 10:46 in the Old Testament, 10:50 "And a man of the house of Levi went 10:52 and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 10:54 So the woman conceived and bore a son. 10:57 And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, 11:00 she hid him three months. 11:01 But when she could no longer hide him, 11:03 she took an ark of bulrushes for him, 11:06 daubed it with asphalt and pitch, 11:09 put the child in it, 11:11 and laid it in the reeds by the river's bank." 11:15 But here is the little girl, 11:18 the big sister of Moses. 11:22 And when the baby is discovered 11:25 and the baby cries, the little girl says, 11:30 "Can I help you? 11:33 Can I fetch a Hebrew woman?" 11:37 And she runs off and she gets the mother of Moses. 11:42 And Moses immediately is 11:47 no longer in fear of his life. 11:51 And what is more, 11:52 the mother who'd been struggling 11:54 to put the money together 11:57 to feed a family immediately 12:00 is on the payroll of Pharaoh. 12:04 And people tell me 12:05 they don't believe in the providence of God. 12:08 It was in the providence of God 12:10 that Hatshepsut went down there. 12:12 It was in the providence of God that the baby cried. 12:15 It was in the providence of God that Miriam was there 12:18 and that the mother was called. 12:20 Now, what I want you to know is this, 12:23 as we talk about these great people 12:26 who've changed the course of history. 12:28 God has a plan and a destiny for every person. 12:32 God had a plan and a destiny for the little baby Moses. 12:37 And God has a plan and a destiny for you. 12:41 Every person watching the telecast today, 12:43 you are important in the sight of God, 12:46 and God has got a plan, 12:47 and a purpose, and a destiny for you. 12:50 He's watching over you, you are never, never alone. 12:54 Now, I want you to notice 12:58 chapter 2, verses 6 and onwards, 13:02 Exodus 2:6 and onwards, 13:06 "And when she opened it, she saw the child, 13:08 and behold, the baby wept. 13:10 So she had compassion on him, and said, 13:12 'This is one of the Hebrews' children.' 13:14 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, 13:16 'Shall I go and call a nurse for you 13:18 from the Hebrew women, 13:20 that she may nurse the child for you?' 13:22 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her 'Go.' 13:25 So the maiden went and called 13:27 the child's mother." 13:31 The word "Moses" is an interesting word. 13:38 It's an ancient Egyptian word and it's a Hebrew word. 13:43 And in the Egyptian language, it means "born of." 13:48 And so when she called him Moses, 13:52 she could very well have been using the Egyptian word 13:56 and she could well have been using 13:58 the Hebrew word which she probably understood. 14:02 The Hebrew word means drawn out. 14:05 And so he was drawn out of the river, 14:09 but he was also born of the river. 14:14 And so he was in her thinking 14:18 a very, very special little baby 14:21 that had the favor of the gods, 14:24 God provides. 14:28 His mother had him for a few years, 14:30 most likely 12 years. 14:32 During this time, she did everything 14:34 she could to teach this little boy 14:40 the great truths about the great God. 14:43 And that her people had been called by God, 14:45 and that they were now slaves, 14:47 and that God had a purpose for this little boy. 14:52 I want every person watching the telecast to know today 14:55 that there is a divine providence, 14:59 and God has got a purpose for every life, 15:03 and the purpose of God for you 15:05 is that you will fulfill this purpose 15:08 and find true greatness. 15:11 This is the purpose of God. 15:14 His education, Acts 7:21 and 22, 15:18 would you look at it please. 15:20 "But when he was set out, 15:22 Pharaoh's daughter took him away 15:24 and brought him up as her own son." 15:27 Palace of Pharaoh. 15:28 "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom 15:31 of the Egyptians, 15:33 and was mighty in words and in deed." 15:39 Some people who don't know a great deal 15:44 about ancient history think that these 15:48 ancient people were barbarians. 15:53 The ancient Egyptians 15:55 were some of the most amazing people 15:58 on the face of the earth. 16:01 Moses got through Pharaoh, 16:06 the best education that the world could provide. 16:10 These were the people 16:12 who did astounding engineering marvels. 16:16 I've seen them many, many times. 16:19 A marvelous system of writing, 16:22 they studied the stars. 16:25 Moses went to the Oxford, or the Cambridge, 16:29 or Harvard of his day, all expenses paid. 16:34 God wanted this young boy to get the best 16:37 that the world could give him. 16:40 God provided for his education. 16:44 Listen, 16:47 God will provide for your needs. 16:51 If you are in the right relationship with God, 16:56 God will even provide for your education 17:00 because you're the son of the king. 17:05 Then the great crisis came 17:06 when he was about 40 years of age, 17:08 he was a mighty prince of Egypt, 17:11 one of the greatest. 17:13 He could have become the Pharaoh. 17:16 And one day, he saw an Egyptian 17:18 beating a Hebrew. 17:20 And Moses was a hot-headed man and Moses... 17:23 The Bible says, "Looked this way and that way." 17:25 And then he took the law 17:28 and God's purpose into his own hands 17:31 and he killed the Egyptian. 17:33 That's found in Exodus 2:12, it says, 17:38 "So he looked this way and that way, 17:40 and when he saw no one, 17:42 he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand." 17:48 Therefore the most astounding truth is this, 17:52 that Moses who gave us 17:54 the first five books of the Bible, 17:58 the most important words ever said by human lips 18:02 "in the beginning, 18:04 God created the heavens and the earth" 18:06 came from Moses. 18:07 He wrote Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, 18:11 and Deuteronomy. 18:14 And Moses was a murderer. 18:19 Sometimes we like to think, well you know, 18:21 he didn't know what he's doing, 18:24 he looked this way and he looked that way. 18:28 It was premeditated murder. 18:33 But it shows you the amazing power 18:36 of the grace of God. 18:38 I want you to know this, 18:40 God's grace is greater than all of our sins. 18:45 I want you to know this. 18:46 You know, the amazing old English hymn 18:49 "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, 18:53 that saved a wretch like me." 18:57 You know who wrote it, don't you? 18:59 John Newton, a Church of England minister. 19:02 He was the captain of a slave ship. 19:06 Do you know what they used to do 19:07 to some of those black slaves? 19:09 They used to throw them overboard out on the ocean, 19:13 they'd throw them overboard, men, women, and children. 19:17 You know why? 19:19 They could claim the insurance. 19:23 Amazing grace. 19:26 And God redeemed him. 19:27 Therefore, I would say this, 19:29 every person who is discouraged, 19:31 never despair, never give up hope, 19:35 never, never, never 19:36 because the grace of God 19:38 is greater than all of our sins, you see. 19:42 Now the story goes on and says this, 19:44 Moses fled to Midian in the wilderness. 19:50 Pharaoh said, "I'm going to kill you." 19:51 So he fled, had to leave Egypt, 19:53 he fled to Midian. 19:56 And there he met seven women at the well, 20:02 the daughters of Jethro, the priest, 20:07 a Midian, a man of God. 20:09 Later on, he married Zipporah. 20:12 God provided him with a wife. 20:15 The great God of the Bible is the God 20:18 who provides people with all of their needs 20:22 including their spouses. 20:24 God has got a partner for you, He has. 20:28 Then he became a shepherd in the wilderness, 20:32 wait for this, for 40 years. 20:35 I wish every one of you could come with me to Egypt 20:38 and see the glory of that ancient land. 20:41 And we see it not as it was, 20:44 now as it is broken down 20:46 and decayed after thousands of years. 20:49 But he left the glory of Pharaoh's palace 20:52 and was driven into the wilderness. 20:54 And he is there for 40 years, 20:57 can you believe this? 21:01 A shepherd in the wilderness 21:02 looking after sheep for 40 years 21:06 in the university of God almighty. 21:10 I want you to know this, folks, 21:12 before you can stand on the mountain, 21:15 you've got to go down to the valley. 21:19 Before you can go to the land of milk and honey, 21:21 you've got to live in the desert. 21:24 Before you can live with the saint, 21:26 you've got to live with the sheep. 21:31 I know of a minister in Australia 21:34 and his wife who've gone through a terrible time, 21:37 treated so unjustly, 21:40 had a great job, 21:42 dismissed from his job for no lawful reason, 21:46 just done in. 21:51 But I want him to know if he's watching this telecast, 21:54 your best days are still to come. 21:58 Want you to know this. 21:59 You may be down in the valley, you may be in the wilderness. 22:05 I can think of a lady 22:06 who's had a terrible sickness for years and she said, 22:10 "Why doesn't God do something for me? 22:14 I feel depressed, I feel sick." 22:16 I want to tell you, I want you to know this. 22:19 You may be down in the wilderness, 22:21 but one day you're gonna stand on top of the mountain, 22:24 and one day you're going to go to the promised land, 22:27 you see, the best is still to come. 22:33 Away from the glory of Egypt, 22:35 Moses saw the glory of God. 22:39 He graduated 22:40 from the University of Hard Knocks 22:43 whose colors are black and blue. 22:46 But ahead was the mountain and the land of milk and honey. 22:51 God has a glorious destiny for you 22:54 when you are a child of God, God has not forgotten you. 22:57 You have a glorious future. 23:01 You can divide Moses' life up into three parts, 23:06 40 years learning, 23:09 and 40 years unlearning, 23:12 and the last 40 years doing the will of God. 23:17 He had to unlearn a lot of things. 23:22 And then after 40 years, 23:25 he led the flock to the back of the mountain. 23:30 And as he led the flock to the back of the mountain, 23:34 he saw the most amazing spectacle 23:38 that I could have ever, ever, ever see, 23:41 he saw a bush that was on fire 23:46 and the bush was not consumed. 23:49 And when he got over near the bush, 23:53 he heard a voice that said, 23:57 "Moses. 24:00 Moses." 24:02 He said, "Who are you?" 24:05 The person said, 24:07 "I am Yahweh, Elohim. 24:11 I am the Almighty God." 24:15 Moses was afraid to look upon God. 24:19 And Moses heard the voice of God saying, 24:22 "Moses, you've been in the wilderness 24:24 in My university for 40 years. 24:30 You're now an old man of 80 but now... 24:35 the time for which you were born has come. 24:42 I've heard the cry of your people 24:45 and My people in the land of Egypt. 24:48 Now, 24:49 therefore go to Pharaoh. 24:55 And when you go to Pharaoh, 24:57 take this rod, 25:01 your rod, 25:04 and go and stand before Pharaoh, 25:07 the greatest and the most powerful person in the world. 25:12 Go stand before the great Pharaoh 25:15 whom I think was Thutmosis III 25:20 and say to him... 25:23 And this is the God speaking out of the fire. 25:26 And He says, "Let my people go." 25:35 After that time, 25:37 that was the greatest meeting 25:40 in the history of the world. 25:44 A man who was burnt with the sun, 25:48 a man who'd been out in the desert for 40 years, 25:52 and he stands before Pharaoh and says, 25:55 "Let my people go." 26:01 Now please stay with us. 26:02 We'll be back
