00:01 Welcome to a new Carter Report series,
00:03 The Game Changers.
00:05 These rare individuals appear once in a lifetime.
00:09 Like a blazing meteor across the night sky,
00:12 they change the course of history.
00:15 They show us the way forward.
00:18 Welcome to the Game Changers.
00:25 Welcome back, my friends.
00:27 We're talking today about the lady game changers.
00:31 Now no country in the world impresses me
00:34 quite like old Egypt, ancient Egypt
00:38 because that was the home of the great Pharaohs
00:41 and also the man
00:42 who could have become the Pharaoh.
00:44 Now we're just going to have a little continuity
00:47 from the last section,
00:48 and I want you to take your Bible,
00:50 and we're going to talk a little bit about
00:52 Jochebed and Miriam.
00:55 And we're going to go to the Book of Exodus 2:10.
00:59 Exodus 2:10.
01:05 Now just a continuation of what we're talking about
01:08 when we're speaking about these two amazing women,
01:12 Jochebed and Miriam.
01:15 As you all know,
01:16 Jochebed was the mother of Moses,
01:19 and what about Miriam, who is she?
01:22 She was his big sister, but on those days,
01:25 she was just a little girl.
01:27 Now Exodus...
01:30 2:10 says,
01:35 "And the child grew," this was Moses,
01:38 "and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter."
01:40 We think that was Queen Hatshepsut
01:43 who became one of the greatest Pharaohs
01:45 in the history of the Egyptian empire.
01:49 "And he became her son, so she called his name Moses,
01:53 saying, 'Because I drew him out of the water.' "
01:57 You know the story.
01:59 And Miriam is standing there, the little boy is in a basket
02:03 floating on the broad bosom of the Nile.
02:06 And Jochebed is hiding somewhere
02:09 because the decree is gone forth
02:11 that all the little baby boys have got to be put to death.
02:16 And this was a terrible thing.
02:19 And if this had happened, if there'd be no Moses,
02:24 there would have been no Israel,
02:28 no Ten Commandments, and no Messiah.
02:32 And so here, you got this little girl
02:34 by the name of Miriam, you think...
02:38 How old is she?
02:39 She's seven.
02:41 You want to trust the fate of the world
02:43 to a little seven-year-old girl?
02:46 Like my little granddaughter Amiley?
02:48 Well, maybe.
02:52 But let me tell you, folks, something,
02:55 this little girl had been taught the Word of God
03:00 by Jochebed.
03:03 She must have filled...
03:04 You know, if you don't train little children
03:06 in the truth of the Word of God by the time they're little,
03:11 it's almost getting too late to do it.
03:14 How great!
03:15 Roman Catholic friends say, "Give me a child
03:18 until he's seven years of age,
03:21 and he'll always stay with the church."
03:24 And so this beautiful, lovely little girl Miriam
03:29 is taught there's a God who loves her,
03:32 and she's taught to be obedient to her father and her mother
03:36 and to look out
03:37 for the other members of the family.
03:39 And so here, you've got little baby Moses,
03:43 and he's down on the broad bosom
03:46 of the Nile among the bulrushes.
03:51 It's amazing story.
03:53 And so Miriam finds the little baby boy
03:57 with Hatshepsut.
03:58 Hatshepsut opens up the little ark,
04:03 but Miriam is right there.
04:04 And she says to the beautiful princess,
04:08 "Hey, I'm just out for a walk today.
04:11 Can I help you in anyway, princess?
04:15 Shall I get someone to nurse this baby for you?"
04:19 And Hatshepsut says, "Yeah, get me a nurse."
04:23 And when the nurse comes along, I'm going to do something.
04:27 I'm going to pay her some wages.
04:31 So Jochebed is paid for doing what she wanted to do
04:36 more than anything else, bring up her child.
04:40 Did you know that the word Moses
04:44 is not only a Hebrew word,
04:46 it is also an Egyptian word.
04:50 As the great archaeologist, the great German archaeologist,
04:54 Dr. Siegfried Horn taught me so many years ago,
04:59 when she called him Moses, Hebrew means drawn out.
05:04 But the Egyptian word means born of.
05:09 And most likely, he was called happy Moses,
05:12 born of the river Nile.
05:14 All of the Pharaohs...
05:16 Now most people don't know this.
05:17 But most of the Pharaohs of this time period
05:21 have got Moses in their name.
05:25 Rameses, or Ahmoses,
05:28 Tutmoses, Kamoses,
05:32 that's what they were called.
05:34 This is the time of the Moses Kings.
05:38 And so Hatshepsut, the beautiful,
05:41 wonderful princess
05:43 who became the greatest ruler
05:47 of that time period in the history of the world.
05:51 I've gone to Egypt many times,
05:53 and I've seen the massive monuments
05:55 of Queen Hatshepsut.
05:56 I'm one of her fans.
06:00 And when I look at her magnificent stuff,
06:03 I say, "I'm walking in the footsteps
06:07 of some of the greatest people who've ever lived.
06:11 And here is this woman by the name of Jochebed,
06:14 and so she gets the little baby.
06:18 Folks, she doesn't have him for long.
06:21 I want you to look at Exodus 2:10.
06:24 Exodus 2:10,
06:28 the Bible says,
06:30 "And the child grew,
06:33 and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter."
06:35 Do you think this did something to our heart?
06:38 You know, this is your boy,
06:41 the son of your own body.
06:44 Now we think this boy is about 12 years of age.
06:47 "She brought him to Pharaoh's daughter,
06:50 and he became her son.
06:52 So she called his name Moses, saying,
06:57 'Because I drew him out of the water.' "
07:02 How old was this boy, Moses?
07:05 If we go according to the customs
07:07 of the Hebrew people,
07:09 he is probably about 12 years of age.
07:12 But she taught him.
07:14 I want to say to the mothers here today,
07:16 never, never, never, never give up hope.
07:20 Many people say,
07:22 "Think of the world in which we live,
07:23 they're evil."
07:24 Think of the evil on television.
07:27 And so we've got a name around the world.
07:29 Now, I want to tell you folks something
07:31 as one of those violent countries
07:34 on the face of the earth,
07:36 and we pride ourselves on being a-God-fearing people.
07:39 In God we trust!
07:42 And your chance of being killed here
07:43 in this country with a gun
07:47 is just about the highest of any country in the world,
07:50 at least in the western world, it's a dangerous country.
07:55 There's a big problem.
07:57 I think mothers and fathers
07:58 have abdicated their responsibilities
08:02 to the teachers with videogames,
08:06 the gods of this world.
08:07 She had him, folks, for 12 years,
08:11 not very long to have a boy.
08:15 What did she teach him?
08:17 I think, she said, "Moses, I want to tell you
08:19 where you came from.
08:21 You came from the hand of God.
08:23 You're not something nothing."
08:25 In our universities today, we teach young people,
08:29 the man, listen to this, is the product of time
08:33 plus matter plus chance,
08:36 that everything is the product of chance.
08:39 You're not here because God made you,
08:42 you're simply a cosmic accident."
08:44 No wonder we murder children in the schools.
08:50 Imagine, you send your kids to school,
08:52 you don't know if they're going to come home,
08:54 because some lunatic is going to go and kill them.
09:00 It's because they don't know where they came from,
09:03 they don't know why they're here,
09:04 they don't know where they're going.
09:06 If you think this talk is too strong,
09:08 it is because you are out of touch
09:11 with modern culture.
09:15 She taught him where he came from,
09:17 she taught him why he was here.
09:18 "Moses, God has got a job for you to do."
09:21 She taught him where he was going.
09:23 "You came from the hand of God, baby Moses, young man Moses.
09:28 And you've got a divine destiny.
09:30 You're not something nothing."
09:33 One of the greatest curses of social Darwinism
09:37 is the infernal doctrine of the survival of the fittest.
09:43 The strong win, the weak go to the wall.
09:47 We crush them under our feet.
09:49 This is often the talk of the banks
09:53 of the United States of America,
09:56 and the buses of Wall Street.
09:59 Nothing matters except might, and we're going to win.
10:06 But thank God, Moses had a decent mother.
10:11 She taught him the story of creation.
10:15 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
10:17 The greatest words ever spoken on human lips
10:21 are the words of Genesis 1:1.
10:23 "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."
10:27 I am a child of destiny.
10:31 I'm not a cosmic accident.
10:33 I'm not simply
10:35 a planetary eczema,
10:39 and not but potential fertilizer.
10:43 Don't believe that garbage.
10:45 It's taught in every university.
10:48 And then you got kids that are taught
10:51 these violent games, the violent movies,
10:53 the violent videos,
10:55 and these crazy people say to me,
11:00 "It doesn't matter what kids watch,
11:02 it doesn't change what they think."
11:04 That's absolute insanity.
11:07 It is lunacy.
11:10 Because the television people know
11:12 that television commercials have got the capacity
11:15 to motivate you to buy stuff.
11:18 That's what it's all based on.
11:20 And then they say, "Oh, now all the violent movies
11:23 and the terrible things,
11:24 that makes no difference at all."
11:27 Do they think we are as crazy as they are?
11:30 No, no, no.
11:32 She taught him the story of the Creator,
11:34 and it never left him.
11:36 "Train up a child in the way he should go."
11:41 When he grew up,
11:42 he might look like an Egyptian prince.
11:45 But in his heart, my friend, he was a child of God.
11:49 He was a Hebrew.
11:51 Remember this,
11:52 it's an old saying but it's true.
11:55 The hand that rocks the cradle
11:56 is the hand that rules the world.
11:58 I'm going to say something
12:00 that is totally, politically incorrect.
12:04 I really don't care.
12:08 Here it is.
12:10 The greatest profession in the world
12:13 is the profession of the mother with her kids.
12:19 You see?
12:20 And I hear people say,
12:21 "No, you can't be a real woman
12:26 unless you're doing this, this, this, and this."
12:31 And the ones who are doing this, this, this, and this,
12:34 generally are not taking care of their children.
12:39 You see?
12:40 So if you want to learn a lesson,
12:42 and if you got the courage to think,
12:43 you think of Jochebed.
12:45 The hand that rocks the cradle
12:47 is the hand that rules the world.
12:49 Twelve years she had him.
12:53 Jochebed and Miriam, seven-year-old girl
12:58 gave to the world Moses who gave us the Bible,
13:02 the Pentateuch, Genesis, Exodus,
13:04 Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy,
13:06 gave us the Ten Commandments,
13:09 and gave us the people of Israel,
13:13 and they gave us the Messiah.
13:17 And Jesus gave us the gospel.
13:20 And without the gospel,
13:22 as the people say in Papua New Guinea,
13:25 "You're something nothing."
13:28 The gospel makes women real women,
13:30 and makes men real men.
13:33 Without these two heroes,
13:35 Moses could have ended up in the Cairo Museum.
13:37 I've been to the Cairo Museum.
13:39 I've been in the royal mummy room.
13:42 I've been there with a television crew.
13:44 I've discussed Hatshepsut in that class coffin
13:49 with the great Dr. Hawass.
13:52 I've looked down here
13:54 at my old friend Rameses the great.
13:57 I have seen Tutmoses III, the Pharaoh of the Exodus
14:03 who said, "I will not let Israel go."
14:07 And when I went into the Cairo Museum,
14:09 I thought to myself,
14:12 "If Jochebed hadn't been a good mother,
14:16 Moses would have ended up in this dump."
14:19 Yeah, it's a dump for dead bodies.
14:22 Who wants to be there?
14:24 It's got plenty of gold, but it's a dump.
14:27 Now we're going to talk about the first feminist.
14:30 Listening?
14:32 Vashti, we come to the land of Persia.
14:36 I've been there lots of times too,
14:38 one of the oldest civilizations.
14:40 Esther 1:10 to 12, Esther 1:10 to 12,
14:46 the land of Persia, "On the seventh day,
14:49 when the heart of the king was merry with wine,"
14:52 in other words, he's drunk, "he commanded Mehuman Biztha,
14:57 Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas,"
15:02 how was that, all these guys,
15:04 "seven eunuchs
15:06 who served in the presence of Kind Ahasuerus,"
15:09 another name is Xerxes, Xerxes the great,
15:12 "to bring Queen Vashti before the king,
15:14 wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty
15:18 to the people and the officials,
15:20 for she was beautiful to behold.
15:23 But Queen Vashti refused to come
15:25 at the king's command brought by his eunuchs.
15:29 Therefore, the king," of course, he was furious.
15:32 Little pot soon hot.
15:34 "The king was furious
15:37 and his anger burned within him."
15:44 She used the power of no.
15:49 She said, "This is an unreasonable request.
15:53 You want to treat me like a priced cow
15:58 at the village fare."
16:01 She said, "I am not a priced cow."
16:05 And she said to the most powerful man
16:07 on the world, one word, no.
16:12 It's a good word.
16:14 The Bible teaches the equality of the sexes.
16:19 People say, "I don't believe that."
16:20 Well, come out of the dark ages, brother.
16:24 She said, "I will not summit to unreasonable sexes demands."
16:28 Vashti, queen of Persia became a lady game changer.
16:34 And I say, we used to say as a boy, "Bully for her.
16:40 Well done."
16:42 Now, she got kicked off the throne.
16:45 And a beautiful little girl by the name of Esther
16:49 became the queen.
16:50 Nobody knew, but she was a Jew.
16:56 The Jewish girl
16:57 who became queen of the Persian Empire
17:01 became one of the great game changers.
17:04 Now there was a terrible plot to annihilate the Jewish race.
17:09 Got to tell it to you, summarize it.
17:12 There was a good guy.
17:14 Now Esther is very beautiful.
17:17 There's a good guy.
17:19 I think it was Esther's cousin, and he's a Jew,
17:25 and his name is Mordecai.
17:29 As a boy, I used to call him Mordecayay.
17:31 But I think I might have been wrong.
17:33 Mordecai,
17:36 he's a good guy.
17:37 And there's a wicked man,
17:40 he's the very essence of evil,
17:42 very wicked man,
17:43 because he's got a program to wipe out the children of God
17:47 and potentially the Messiah.
17:51 He is wicked, Haman.
17:54 Now if you look at Esther 4:14 and 15.
18:00 Esther gets tied up in the intrigue of the court
18:03 because a decree has gone forth from Haman
18:07 singed by the king to wipe out the Jews
18:11 and potentially, the Messiah.
18:15 Now Mordecai sends this message to his relative,
18:18 this little girl on the court, now she's a queen.
18:21 "For if you remain completely silent at this time,
18:25 relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews
18:28 from another place,
18:30 but you and your father's house will perish."
18:32 Listen, evil prospers
18:37 because good men remain silent.
18:40 And so he says, "If you're going to be silent,
18:44 God will bring deliverance somewhere else
18:46 but you're going to die."
18:48 "'Yet who knows
18:50 whether you have come to the kingdom
18:53 for such a time as this?'
18:56 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai,
18:59 'Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan,
19:04 and fast for me, neither eat nor drink for three days,
19:08 night or day.
19:10 My maids and I will also fast.
19:15 So I will go to the king, which is against the law.
19:19 If I perish, I perish.'"
19:22 Now it was not a woman's world.
19:26 It's a man's world.
19:29 The king had so much power that if the queen, his queen,
19:35 his wife came in to see him uninvited,
19:39 she would put to death.
19:42 Can you believe it, man?
19:46 A king had so much power that if the wife turned up
19:50 unexpected, uninvited, he'd say,
19:53 "Off with my queen's head."
19:58 So the ladies didn't do too much talking
20:00 back in those days.
20:01 That shows you
20:03 the tremendous courage of Vashti.
20:05 "No, not going to do it."
20:09 You all need to learn that word,
20:10 no, not going to do it.
20:12 If it's wrong, I'm not going to do it.
20:15 People come along and say, "But, oh, you allow."
20:17 No, I'm not going to do it 'cause it's wrong.
20:24 And he says to her, "You come to the kingdom
20:26 for such a time as this."
20:28 This tells me there is a divine providence.
20:30 She wasn't there by accident.
20:32 Vashti didn't say no by accident, there's a plan.
20:37 And then she said, "I'm going to go,
20:39 and if I perish, I perish.
20:42 I will do the will of God."
20:47 So I want all you, ladies, to think about this.
20:52 Esther was a special woman
20:54 in the right place at the right time.
20:57 She had courage, she put a life on the line.
21:01 She was no wilting little flower.
21:05 She saved her people.
21:07 Without Esther,
21:09 there would have been no Messiah.
21:11 She was an amazing game changer
21:15 because she was in the hands of God,
21:18 and she had courage.
21:20 She had fire inside.
21:22 She had a fire in her belly, if I could say it,
21:26 the great game changer.
21:29 Another great game changer, as we thunder to the end,
21:34 was Ruth,
21:35 a refugee from Moab,
21:40 a country that most of the Jews hated.
21:45 Now the Bible tells us, it's a lady goes over there,
21:49 Naomi, husband dies, her two sons die,
21:54 and she's left with two daughters-in-law.
21:58 And so she said, "I've had no luck here.
22:01 I'm going to go back to my home.
22:03 I'm going back home."
22:04 And you read the story
22:05 in Ruth
22:07 1:14 to 17.
22:14 "Then they lifted up their voices and wept again.
22:17 And Orpah," one of the daughters,
22:19 "kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.
22:22 And she said, 'Look, your sister-in-law
22:24 has gone back to her people and her gods,
22:27 return after your sister-in-law.'
22:29 But Ruth said, 'Entreat me not to leave you,
22:33 or to go back from following after you.
22:35 For wherever you go, I will go.
22:38 And wherever you lodge I will lodge.
22:40 Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
22:45 Where you die, I will die.
22:46 And there I will be buried.
22:49 The Lord do so to me, and more also,
22:51 if anything but death parts you and me.'"
22:54 What a tremendous word from a woman who was a pagan.
22:58 She said, "I'm not going to go back to my gods."
23:02 And so they go to the land of Israel.
23:04 Here is a girl who's a foreigner.
23:07 She's a refugee.
23:12 When they get there, in the providence of God,
23:16 these are very wealthy, I add this, "good-looking man."
23:22 And his name is Boaz,
23:25 and he owns half of Israel.
23:30 And in this story, he is called the redeemer.
23:35 He's the redeemer.
23:37 And they're gleaning in the fields,
23:39 bringing in the harvest, and there's a law in Israel
23:42 that poor people can go along behind the harvesters,
23:45 and they can pick up
23:47 bit of wheat, bit of corn.
23:49 And so she goes down there,
23:52 and she's picking up a little bit of wheat.
23:56 This man comes along, and he says,
23:58 "Hello, there.
24:03 Hello, there."
24:04 He says, "Where do you come from?"
24:06 Oh, she said, "You wouldn't want to know."
24:08 She says, "I come from,
24:15 I come from a foreign land."
24:16 Now I can't read you the next text,
24:18 I got some other text here,
24:19 but I'm sort of running out of time.
24:23 But you know what happens?
24:25 The Bible tells us,
24:29 he notices her, she notices him.
24:35 And after a little courtship, they get married,
24:41 a foreign girl.
24:42 And she becomes the mother
24:46 of King David
24:50 who becomes the father of the Lord Jesus Christ.
24:53 Within the veins of the Lord Jesus Christ,
24:58 you have...
24:59 the blood of a gentile.
25:05 You know why?
25:08 Because God doesn't care.
25:10 She was a refugee from Moab
25:13 who achieved true greatness,
25:17 and she became the mother of David
25:20 who became the father of Jesus
25:23 who gave us the gospel,
25:25 who came and died for our sins, our refugee.
25:30 Lessons learned, listen.
25:33 Where there is great sin, there is great grace,
25:36 and nobody is perfect, only God.
25:41 Nothing is impossible with God.
25:43 And God has got a plan, and a time,
25:46 and a place for everyone.
25:48 And no one is more important
25:53 than the mother in the home,
25:55 the greatest career, to be a mother.
25:59 And remember, the hand that rocks the cradle
26:01 is the hand that rules the world.
26:04 And therefore, today,
26:07 we proudly salute
26:12 the lady game changers.
26:15 God bless them all.
26:18 Amen.
26:26 Jesus said, "All authority has been given to me
26:29 in heaven and on earth.
26:32 Go, therefore, and make disciples
26:34 of all the nations,
26:36 baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
26:40 and of the Holy Spirit.
