00:01 Everyone once believed in the devil,
00:04 a horrible red demon with pointy horns, 00:06 a long tail, and a pitchfork in his hands. 00:10 This fanciful creature 00:11 was invented by superstitious religious fanatics 00:13 in the dark ages. 00:15 Most people today no longer believe 00:17 in this foolish devil myth. 00:19 Many today have accepted the original version 00:21 that was taught by the prophets of the ancient scriptures. 00:23 This is about a beautiful, super intelligent, 00:27 powerful spirit being who eons ago 00:29 became the enemy of God 00:31 and the implacable foe of human beings. 00:33 His name is Satan, 00:35 and he is alive and well on planet earth. 00:44 Thank you for joining us here today 00:46 in the Carter Report studio in Southern California. 00:50 We're glad to see you and we thank you for coming. 00:54 Have you heard the story about the two little boys? 00:58 They were discussing the devil. 01:01 The topic today incidentally, well, not incidentally, 01:04 but really, the topic is about Satan or Sa-tan. 01:10 Here were these two little boys 01:11 and they were discussing the topic of the devil. 01:15 And one was a little boy, one was a big boy. 01:18 Big boy said to the little boy, 01:20 "No, no, there's no such person as the devil." 01:24 He said, "You know about Santa Claus." 01:26 When you're little, 01:28 you think Santa Claus is a real person. 01:31 But he said, "When you grow up and you get smart, 01:35 you discover it's just your father." 01:38 What he said. 01:40 "That's how it is with the devil." 01:42 When you're a little guy, you think it's a real person, 01:45 when you grow up, just like Santa Claus, 01:48 you find out it's just your father. 01:52 But it's not just your father. 01:56 Is there an actual being 01:58 who is the embodiment of evil? 02:03 Before 9/11 came, 02:04 when America was given this tremendous blow 02:08 by Muslim terrorists, 02:14 a lots of philosophers said, 02:16 liberal philosophers said, "There's no such thing as evil. 02:20 There are things that are convenient, 02:22 things that are, 02:23 you know, maybe not so good, 02:26 but there's no such thing as ultimate guru, 02:29 ultimate evil." 02:33 The attacks upon America 02:35 that happened seems so long ago now, 02:38 9/11 caused by a group of religious fundamentalists, 02:43 far to the right, as you can imagine, 02:46 they were called, did you know this, the Wahabi. 02:51 They came out of the burning deserts 02:53 of Saudi Arabia. 02:55 And Saudi Arabia, 02:57 most folks are not aware of this, 02:58 have spent $100 billion 03:02 exporting Wahabiism to the world. 03:05 Didn't know that, did you? 03:07 Then they struck America. 03:10 And before they struck America, 03:13 lots of people said in the universities, 03:15 there's no such thing as evil. 03:19 But after 9/11, I said, 03:22 "Whoops, there is evil." 03:27 And if there is evil, 03:29 I would suggest you today 03:31 that evil has got to have a source. 03:34 And so today we're going to talk 03:36 about the origin of evil. 03:40 If there is evil, where did it come from? 03:42 Is Satan a real person? 03:45 Or is he like Santa Claus? 03:48 Is Satan the boogie man? 03:52 When I was a little boy, my mother told me, 03:54 "You just be careful 03:56 or else the boogie man is going to get you." 03:59 Is he the boogie man? 04:01 Is Satan, Jesus' brother? 04:05 Now there's a great church 04:06 here in the United States of America. 04:08 And I teach that Satan 04:11 is the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ 04:14 like Cain and Abel. 04:17 So who is this person? 04:19 Is he active in politics? 04:24 Is he active in churches? 04:27 Is Satan the leader of an army of demons? 04:31 Could they be demons? 04:33 And if there is Satan, 04:35 who made Satan 04:37 and what does Satan look like? 04:42 We have this mythological character. 04:45 He's an awful, ugly creature, head of a goat, and so forth, 04:50 and carries pitchfork. 04:53 Is he like that? 04:54 Of course, we know this is simply 04:56 a relic of a barbaric age. 04:59 Is he immortal? 05:00 Can he be killed? 05:02 And is Satan in charge of hell? 05:06 The great Roman Catholic Church 05:07 taught for more than 1,000 years 05:09 that the devil, Satan or Satan, 05:13 was in charge of hell, 05:15 where the disembodied souls and spirits of the damned went. 05:20 Come with me over here to Revelation please, 05:23 12:7-9, 05:28 Revelation 12. 05:29 Please look at this in the Bible. 05:32 "And war broke out in heaven, Michael," 05:35 Christ, "and his angels fought with the dragon, 05:39 and the dragon and his angels fought, 05:43 but they did not prevail, 05:44 nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 05:49 So the great dragon was cast out, 05:51 that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, 05:55 who deceives the whole world, he was cast to the earth, 06:00 and his angels were cast out with him." 06:03 This is an amazing concept. 06:08 The Bible says 06:11 that there was a war 06:15 fought out there 06:16 somewhere in space or beyond the space. 06:22 It was forth between God and His angels, 06:25 and Satan and his angels, all spirit beings. 06:31 I think we've grown beyond the supposition, 06:36 which is rather naive, 06:38 that we will only believe in those things 06:40 that we can see. 06:43 We now know with an absolute certainty 06:47 that 99% of the universe 06:50 is composed of dark matter or dark energy. 06:54 It is there, but it cannot be seen. 06:56 It is a scientific fact. 06:58 We're not saying there's stuff out there, 07:01 we can't see it because 07:03 we don't have big enough telescopes. 07:05 No. 07:07 It is a substance or something 07:09 that cannot at present be seen 07:13 and we do not know what it is. 07:17 So it is scientific to believe in things 07:19 that we cannot see or touch. 07:24 Eons ago, 07:27 there was a war between Christ and Satan. 07:31 And Christ and Satan are not brothers. 07:35 Christ is the eternal Son of God, 07:38 the Creator. 07:41 If you look at Hebrews 1:6-8 and 10, 07:44 Hebrews Chapter 1, 07:46 I want you to notice this verse. 07:48 Hebrews 1:6-8, 07:52 "But when He," that's God, the Father, 07:53 "again brings the firstborn into the world. 07:56 He says, 07:57 'Let all the angels of God worship Him.'" 07:59 When Jesus is born, the angels worship Him. 08:03 "And the angels He says, 'Who makes his angels,'" 08:05 what does it say? "'Spirits,'" they're spirits. 08:10 "'And his ministers a flame of fire.' 08:13 But to the Son, He says, 08:14 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, 08:18 a scepter of righteous 08:20 is the scepter of your kingdom.'" 08:22 And... 08:23 talking to Christ, "'You, Lord, in the beginning 08:26 laid the foundation of the earth, 08:28 and the heavens are the work of your hands.'" 08:31 You Lord. 08:33 This is a quote from Psalm 102. 08:37 And in Psalm 102, when it says, "You Lord," 08:40 the actual word is Yahweh. 08:44 And so here, 08:45 Jesus Christ is actually called Yahweh. 08:51 This is the most awesome word in the universe 08:55 for time and eternity. 08:57 Y-H-W-H, 09:01 Yahweh Elohim, 09:03 Lord God Almighty. 09:05 And the Father turns to Jesus Christ 09:07 and He says, "And you, Yahweh." 09:11 So Jesus is called Yahweh. 09:14 Jesus created the universe, 09:17 but Satan was not a co-creator, 09:22 he was a created being. 09:26 He's created by God. 09:27 Turn to Ezekiel 28:15, please. 09:30 Ezekiel 28:15, 09:34 God says, 09:36 "You are perfect in your ways from the day you were created 09:41 till iniquity was found in you." 09:44 Eons ago, 09:47 God created this magnificent spirit being 09:52 whose name was Lucifer, 09:55 means the day star. 09:57 Ezekiel 28:12, 15, 10:00 look at these verses, verses 12 and 15, 10:05 "Son of man, 10:06 take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre," 10:08 just remember this, the king of Tyre, 10:11 "and say to him 'Thus says the Lord God, 10:14 'You were the seal of perfection, 10:17 full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.' 10:23 You were perfect in your ways, from the day you were created, 10:29 till iniquity was found in you.'" 10:34 And so he was perfect. 10:37 Did God make the devil? 10:38 No, God did not make the devil. 10:41 God made him sinless, beautiful angel 10:45 who made the wrong choice. 10:48 But this text refers to him by the term the king of Tyre 10:55 because behind the evil genius of the king of Tyre 10:59 was a supernatural spirit being, 11:04 real power behind the throne. 11:07 And he's the real power 11:09 behind the throne of every dictator. 11:17 You know what I'm telling you? 11:19 Full of wisdom, 11:20 perfect in beauty, 11:22 no pitchfork, no cloven hooves 11:26 but a person of extraordinary beauty, 11:29 and the Bible says full of wisdom, 11:32 smarter than the smartest human being. 11:39 And some people say, 11:41 "I can't believe in him 11:43 because I can't see him." 11:45 Ezekiel 28:13 tells us more. 11:48 Ezekiel 28:13, 11:51 "You were in Eden, the garden of God. 11:55 Every precious stone was your covering, 11:57 the sardius, topaz, diamond, 12:00 beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, 12:03 emerald with gold. 12:06 The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes 12:08 was prepared for you on the day you were created." 12:12 He was actually, 12:13 the Bible says 12:15 in a very presence of Almighty God. 12:20 And he shone with luster. 12:26 Amazing. 12:28 But in contrast, Jesus had no beginning. 12:34 He is called Yahweh Elohim, 12:37 He's called the self-existent, 12:39 "I am." 12:41 So Jesus and Satan are not brothers. 12:48 He is called the covering cherub. 12:50 Ezekiel 28:14, 12:53 Ezekiel 28:14, 12:54 "You were the anointed cherub who covers," 12:57 right next to God. 12:59 "I established you, 13:00 you were on the holy mountain of God. 13:04 You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones." 13:10 He, God is seated on his throne. 13:14 And standing as the covering cherub 13:17 spreading out his wings 13:20 is this magnificent creature 13:23 that is filled with glory and beauty. 13:29 You almost say 13:31 God's best friend 13:34 created in perfection, no sin, no fault. 13:37 So God did not create the devil, 13:40 remember this, He did not create the devil. 13:43 He created a pure, wonderful, beautiful, 13:47 sinless being who stood next to Him 13:50 apparently in authority and in power. 13:58 And he's alive and well on planet earth. 14:08 Now because God loves, 14:09 He gives to all of his children, 14:12 the gift and power of choice. 14:16 Now some people 14:18 find this very, very difficult to understand. 14:21 And they say, 14:22 "Why is there sin in the world? 14:24 Why is there suffering? Why is there a devil?" 14:28 Listen to this. 14:30 You cannot have love with that freedom. 14:34 So God was the first person to say, 14:36 "Let freedom reign." 14:41 You cannot have love 14:43 unless you have the capacity to choose. 14:48 So when God made us, 14:50 He made us with this dangerous gift. 14:54 Some people have called it an intolerable burden. 14:58 We cannot carry this, it's a burden. 15:01 We'd rather be told what to do. 15:04 There are people like this. 15:05 Just tell us what to do. 15:09 But God didn't make us like this. 15:11 God made us intelligent beings with freedom of choice, 15:16 with the capacity 15:18 to choose good and to choose evil. 15:22 And thus He made Lucifer. 15:26 That's very hard to understand what happened. 15:30 But I want you to notice 15:31 Isaiah 14:12-15, 15:34 Isaiah 14:12-15. 15:39 I want to welcome today our tremendous audience 15:42 around the world 15:43 as we're starting on 112 full broadcast stations 15:49 across the breadth of the United States of America. 15:54 And that's how outreach now reaches right around the world. 15:58 And if you're tuning in today, 16:00 I just want to welcome you today 16:03 to this Carter Report program. 16:04 This program is not just air and fluff. 16:10 On this program, 16:11 we deal with the great fundamentals 16:14 of human existence. 16:16 And if you want to understand trivia, 16:19 this station is not for you, this program is not for you 16:22 because you're not going to hear trivia. 16:24 Today we're talking about Satan 16:27 and the great origin of evil. 16:29 Why is there evil in the world? 16:31 Why is this world in such, 16:35 can I say it, a hell of a situation? 16:39 Isaiah 14:12-15, my friend, 16:42 God says, 16:43 "How you are fallen from heaven, 16:45 O Lucifer, 16:49 son of the morning!" 16:50 Like the sun. 16:54 "How you are cut down to the ground, 16:56 you who weakened the nations. 17:00 For you have said in your heart, 17:02 'I will ascend into heaven, 17:04 I will exalt my throne above the stars of God," 17:07 I travel, 17:09 "I will also sit on the mount of the congregation 17:12 on the farthest sides the North, 17:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, 17:18 I will be like the Most High, 17:21 yet you shall be brought down to Sheol," 17:24 down to hell, 17:26 "To the lowest depths of the pit." 17:30 This is pretty difficult to understand 17:32 that he, who've got 17:34 a totally sinless, magnificent creature, 17:38 not flesh and bones, 17:41 but a being like this dark matter 17:44 and this dark energy. 17:46 We now know it is the dark energy 17:48 that drives the expansion of the universe, 17:52 that makes it possible first to even exist, 17:56 incomprehensible power. 18:00 And sometimes, 18:01 we will meet people who will say, 18:05 "I can't believe in God because I can't see him." 18:09 Come on, let's get real. 18:12 I can't believe in this because I don't understand it. 18:15 How much do we understand? 18:17 Not 1/10th of 1/10th of 1 billionth of a billionth. 18:21 And so here is this magnificent creature 18:25 made in the image of God, 18:26 and in some way 18:32 into his soul, 18:35 there came a thirst 18:38 and a lust for power. 18:42 He was beautiful. 18:46 He was the leader of a trillion angels. 18:51 And I guess they told him, 18:53 "Lucifer, 18:55 you're absolutely magnificent." 18:57 And after a bit he started to believe the compliments. 19:02 Something got inside his soul. 19:09 Vanity and pride, where did it come from? 19:13 I do not understand it. 19:15 But God made him with the capacity 19:17 to choose good and evil as He's given to you and to me. 19:25 He wanted to be like God, 19:28 not in character, 19:31 not in character, no cross fame, 19:36 not in character but in power, 19:39 hence the origin of evil. 19:41 Evil goes back to this being, 19:44 Lucifer, who became Satan or Satan. 19:50 If you look at 14:4, it is of great significance 19:57 because God is talking here to the king of Babylon, 19:59 "That you take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, 20:03 and say, 'How the oppressor has ceased, 20:06 the Golden City ceased.'" 20:07 Now listen, 20:09 this is the chapter 20:12 that is talking about Lucifer 20:17 because behind the king of Babylon, 20:20 there was a supernatural power 20:24 behind the king of Babylon. 20:28 It was Lucifer 20:31 calling the shots. 20:34 Do you think the king knew? 20:40 "In the throne of Babylon stood to Lucifer, 20:41 the king of Babylon had a lust for power, 20:43 authority, conquest, and territory." 20:46 What's new? 20:48 He had the character of Lucifer, 20:50 the day star, the shining one. 20:53 There, I said, 20:55 he is reminiscent of some leaders 20:58 in the world today 21:01 who want power, glory, authority, 21:04 they're not there for the people, 21:07 they are there for themselves. 21:10 You know it's true. 21:12 They are the great liars. 21:15 What's wrong with telling a lie? 21:17 If you're a liar, you are a son of the devil. 21:23 The great liars and the boasters, 21:25 the great lovers of money, and the lovers of power. 21:29 Oh, everybody loves money, 21:31 yes, especially the devil. 21:35 They are, the Bible says, 21:37 listen to this, "Little antichrists." 21:42 Bible said many antichrists. 21:47 The so great 21:48 were the persuasive powers of Lucifer, 21:52 he charmed one-third of the angels. 21:56 He was the original con artist. 22:00 You know what it means, con artist, a confidence man. 22:03 A confident man is a person who gets your confidence, 22:10 a charmer, 22:12 a smooth talker. 22:15 He was the original smooth talker 22:20 and slippery salesman. 22:23 And the Bible says, 22:25 "One-third of the supernatural beings 22:28 that excelled in power and glory 22:33 believed the lie, 22:40 and they joined up." 22:41 I say, "Beware the smooth talker." 22:47 The Bible says he tempted our first parents. 22:49 He got into the garden. 22:52 It sinned before Adam and Eve, 22:55 and he was there waiting for them. 22:57 Genesis 3:1-3, 22:59 Genesis 3:1-3, 23:00 "Now the serpent was more cunning," 23:02 this is Lucifer, 23:04 "was more cunning than any beast of the field 23:06 which the Lord God had made. 23:08 He said to the woman, 'Has God indeed said, 23:10 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'? 23:14 And the woman said to the serpent, 23:16 'We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden, 23:18 but the fruit of the tree, 23:20 which is in the midst of the garden, 23:22 God has said, 23:24 'You shall not eat it, 23:25 nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 23:28 God said here is a test, 23:30 you can have everything your heart desires, 23:34 but this, you cannot have. 23:40 And verse 4, Genesis 3:4, 23:44 "Then the serpent," Lucifer, 23:47 "said to the woman, 'You will not surely die. 23:50 God's a liar.'" 23:54 The great liar calls 23:57 the Creator of the universe a liar. 24:00 You're a liar, God is a liar. 24:04 He knows you'll be better off. 24:08 Verse 5 says, 24:12 but God knows this is the serpent talking, 24:15 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it 24:17 your eyes will be opened, 24:19 and you will be like God, 24:22 knowing good and evil." 24:24 God is holding out on you. 24:28 What sort of God is this? 24:31 God who love? I don't think so. 24:33 Sin is good. 24:37 Fornication is good, adultery is good, 24:41 the lust for power is good, 24:44 lying is good, 24:48 it's all good. 24:49 And if you'll eat of it, 24:51 you'll be better off, 24:54 and you'll be like God. 24:59 And the little lady 25:02 and her husband 25:06 used the capacity of this gift 25:09 that God has given to every one of us, 25:12 freedom of choice, 25:13 and they said, "That sounds good to me." 25:19 When they made that choice, 25:23 they opened the door. 25:27 And outside the door, 25:29 there was a tsunami, 25:35 and the flood came in. 25:39 We're going to talk about that 25:42 in our next segment. 25:43 We're talking today about Satan, 25:47 Lucifer, 25:49 the origin of evil 25:52 and why there is so much suffering 25:54 in the world today. 25:56 And most importantly, 25:58 what is God going to do about it? 26:01 And what should I do? 26:04 Stay with me, 26:06 and we'll be back for Satan. 26:28 This is my 43rd visit 26:35 to preach the everlasting gospel 26:37 of our Lord Jesus Christ. 26:49 And they had smoke bombs and they had fire bombs, 26:52 and the Russian army had to take me to the meetings. 26:58 I come here, my friend, because of the need. 27:01 These were days of grace, and glory, and mighty power. 27:07 For a donation of $100 or more, 27:10 a signed copy of the John Carter biography 27:12 can be yours by writing to us at the address on the screen 27:16 or visit our website. 27:25 Do you sometimes get lost in the crowd? 27:28 Do you feel there is just no love in the room, 27:30 like everybody is against you? 27:31 You're all alone with no one to lean on. 27:33 Do you need a word of encouragement? 27:35 Do you know God? 27:37 Have you tried prayer? 27:38 Pastor Carter would like to pray for you now. 27:41 Let us pray. 27:42 Call 1-800-526-9777. 27:46 Nothing to buy, the call is free. 27:49 Call 1-800-526-9777. 27:55 1.3 billion people live in India, 27:59 200 million of these are Dalits, 28:02 formerly called untouchables. 28:04 One hundred percent of your gift 28:06 will go to fund projects for Dalit girls 28:09 as an alternative. 28:11 Your gift of $600 28:13 will educate, clothe, and feed one Dalit girl 28:16 between 5 and 15 years of age for one full year. 28:21 Go to CarteReport.org 28:23 or to the address on the screen. 28:28 For a copy of today's program, 28:30 please contact us at P.O.
