You said 70%... 03:06 Seventy percent of people in the hospitals are there 03:08 for their diet and their lifestyle. 03:10 Because of their own bad choices. 03:12 Bad choices. Exactly. 03:13 And because they've been brainwashed by television. 03:17 That's true. You know. 03:18 A lot of those unhealthy products 03:20 you see advertised. 03:21 And these people who are putting out 03:23 these television ads advertising this poison food, 03:26 they don't do it because they love us, do they? 03:29 No, it's the toxic American diet, they call it. 03:32 And in fact, we're spending more than 03:34 $3 trillion a year in health care costs. 03:40 That's staggering. 03:41 That's more than the whole Australian economy. 03:46 More than 3 trillion a year. That's right. 03:48 I think that's more than what we spend on food. 03:51 I think it's about double. A bad relationship... 03:53 Yeah, yeah, $3 trillion. That's right. 03:55 And believe it or not, the United States only ranks 03:59 35th healthiest nation in the world. 04:02 So despite our high technology 04:05 and with this advanced healthcare system, 04:06 we have the United States in all this. 04:09 We're only the 35th healthiest nation in the world. 04:12 We're doing very bad and the deaths in our country 04:16 are related to the way we're living. 04:17 In fact... What's this? 04:19 What's all tell me, explain this to me, please? 04:20 This is showing the leading causes of death 04:22 in the United States. 04:23 Heart disease is number one, cancer is number two, 04:26 then we have chronic and respiratory diseases. 04:29 There are injuries, 04:30 there's been strokes and Alzheimer's. 04:32 Yeah. 04:33 But look at the three leading ones there. 04:35 They're very high in all these deaths 04:37 and what's the cause of these deaths? 04:39 This chart shows what it is. 04:41 First of all, poor diet and physical inactivity. 04:44 We're eating a terrible diet, a sad diet, 04:48 and we're not getting enough activity, exercise. 04:52 We're sitting around too much, the couch potatoes, 04:54 then it comes tobacco and alcohol. 04:57 I mean, that's crazy. Isn't smoking? 04:58 Exactly. 05:00 I mean, if God wanted us to smoke, somebody said, 05:01 "He would have made a chimney in our heads." 05:03 That's right. I mean, this is... 05:05 Fancy smoking when we know today 05:07 that you're puffing cancer down into your lungs. 05:11 That's right. It's addictive. 05:12 Yeah, America's Healthcare Crisis 05:14 that's what we're talking about today, 05:16 friends, and we want to tell you 05:18 how you can live longer and look better 05:22 and live life to the full. 05:24 Now, Doctor? 05:25 And then we talked about that diet by the way. 05:27 Death is mostly eat, 05:29 E-A-T take the D and the H off... 05:32 Well. We like eating, don't we? 05:34 We do. 05:35 Yeah, and we're not gonna be around if we don't eat. 05:37 That's right. We need that nutrition... 05:39 We need food. 05:40 But apparently, we're eating the wrong stuff. 05:41 That's right. 05:43 And it's because we have been brainwashed 05:46 by big companies who don't care about us, 05:50 but they simply want us to eat their junk food. 05:54 And then when I turn on American television, 05:56 I find this stuff advertising bad food, 05:59 and then you got heaps of ads that are telling you 06:01 to take these drugs. 06:03 Right. 06:04 And they're making billions out of this too. 06:06 And the drugs are only band-aids 06:07 for the real problem. 06:09 Yeah, so we got this tremendous crisis. 06:11 Now, there are eight natural health laws. 06:15 And you believe that if we follow those health laws, 06:18 we could beat the healthcare crisis. 06:21 God has put eight natural remedies, 06:23 eight natural health laws into nature 06:25 that we need to follow. 06:26 We're gonna talk about these today. 06:28 Yes. First is nutrition. 06:29 We'll get into that in a little bit. 06:30 Yeah. 06:32 Exercise, water, sunshine, temperance. 06:34 Now temperance is an old-fashioned word, 06:37 but it means being avoiding bad things for you 06:40 like tobacco and alcohol and all these types of things, 06:42 but being moderate even in the healthy things. 06:44 Yeah. Don't be dumb in other words. 06:46 Right. Yeah. Exactly. 06:48 Then fresh air is so important. 06:50 Rest, and I believe probably 06:52 one of the greatest health laws of all 06:54 is trust in the Creator God. 06:56 So when things are going bad... 06:58 And when you do that and everything fits in. 06:59 You gonna have peace. That's right. 07:00 And peace is a marvelous thing. 07:02 Now you really think 07:04 that these simple health laws actually work today? 07:08 I do. 07:10 Now tell me why you think they work? 07:11 Because these are related to the lifestyle that we live. 07:16 And when we live a healthy lifestyle, 07:18 we can prevent a lot of the illnesses. 07:20 Now, we're gonna start off with the first one, nutrition. 07:21 Yes. 07:23 I want the viewers today to remember this 07:25 if they remember anything else when it comes to diet. 07:28 Foods from plants 07:30 prevent the diseases that are killing... 07:32 And let me say to my friends watching out there in TV Land. 07:36 Listen to this 07:37 'cause this man has got the facts. 07:40 He's a world authority. 07:41 He's a world scientist. 07:43 And you're saying number one is, 07:45 what is it? 07:47 Nutrition. Nutrition. 07:48 And eating more plant foods, very important. 07:52 In fact, you know, Hippocrates, 07:54 the father of modern medicine said way back many years ago, 07:59 "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." 08:02 You know, when you look at the cultures of the world 08:05 and their history, food was their medicine. 08:08 Had nothing else. 08:10 Before there was medicine, there was food. 08:11 And they looked at food for nourishment, 08:13 but also that it was giving them healthy lunch. 08:16 So I tell people eat your medicine 08:18 but eat your medicine in healthy foods. 08:20 And these are the foods that science has shown 08:23 that are important for us to eat. 08:25 Nuts and whole grains, whole wheat bread... 08:28 Can we talk about this? Fruits and vegetables. 08:30 Yes, let's talk about some studies here... 08:32 Starting nuts, so they are important. 08:34 Nuts are very important. 08:35 In fact, this shows 08:37 nut consumption in heart disease. 08:38 This is showing 08:39 the relative risk of heart disease. 08:41 Yeah, yeah. 08:42 And the studies show that people who ate nuts 08:43 at least five times per week 08:45 had a 51% reduction in heart attacks 08:48 and a 48% reduction in death from heart attacks. 08:52 It's amazing. And how... 08:54 And you can see the fifth one over there. 08:56 Yeah. It's dramatic drop. 08:58 Now how many doctors write a prescription, 09:00 I want you to eat more nuts every day? 09:01 The patient would say... 09:03 They write prescription for drugs. 09:05 But if the doctor did that, the patient would say, 09:06 "Are you nuts?" 09:07 That's right. They want a drug, right? 09:09 Yeah, they want a drug. They want a little pill. 09:11 These are all types of nuts that you can eat. 09:13 And I recommend that when you get these nuts, 09:15 get the raw types of nuts, not the ones that have 09:18 all that salt and oil added to it, 09:20 but the raw nuts are the healthiest. 09:21 Yes. 09:23 And these are some of the different types of nuts 09:24 like almonds and walnuts and so forth. 09:26 Very healthy for diet and five servings a week 09:30 and that's a, servings just a little handful of nuts. 09:32 Well, I eat nuts every day. 09:34 I don't know what I do with that nuts. 09:36 And what about seeds? 09:37 You had up there seeds. 09:38 Yeah, seeds fit into that category too. 09:40 So there's pumpkin seeds... 09:41 I've started eating pumpkin seeds. 09:43 Okay, those are good 09:44 and flaxseeds has those omega-3 fatty acids. 09:47 Now the other studies that we wanted to show 09:49 is about whole wheat bread, not that white bread. 09:52 This shows the relative risk of heart attacks 09:55 when you have white bread, mixed diet 09:59 where you have some white bread 10:00 and whole wheat and this is whole wheat. 10:02 So you can see there's a drop off 10:05 in the risk of having a heart attack 10:07 when you eat whole grain, 100% whole wheat bread. 10:10 This study shows and proves the fact 10:12 that the whiter the bread the sooner you're dead. 10:15 Oh, that's a good one. 10:16 Say it again. 10:18 The whiter the bread, the sooner you're death. 10:19 Did you hear this, the whiter the bread 10:21 the sooner you're dead. 10:22 Now I go to Trader Joe's on occasions. 10:26 I have a number of places where I go regularly. 10:28 And this is not a commercial but I go to Costco, you know, 10:34 I just got the excitement of going to Costco. 10:36 That's my big high every week when I go to Costco. 10:41 And then I go to Trader Joe's. 10:43 And in Trader Joe's and other good stores, 10:48 they sell sprouted wheat bread. 10:51 That's good. Ezekiel... 10:53 Ezekiel 4:9, it's based on the Bible, right? 10:55 You think it's good bread? Oh, it's a very good bread. 10:57 And it's a Bible recipe. 10:59 I've been having it for about six months. 11:02 Good. 11:03 I think it's better than normal bread. 11:05 It is because it's the carbohydrate content is lower 11:08 and it's sprouted as far as the white flour, 11:11 but want to eat more of these whole grains, 11:13 and there's many different types of whole grains. 11:15 Now the other studies that I wanted to talk about 11:17 is fruit and vegetable consumption. 11:19 This has to do with women's probability 11:20 of dying at midlife, ages 35 to 69 11:24 and it shows that 11:25 the more fruits and vegetables that they eat, 11:27 that's the low intake at the far right. 11:29 This is the high intake 11:31 that they have significantly less risk... 11:33 Okay, and you're almost going a little bit too fast for me. 11:38 I've got to digest this, 11:40 not only am I eating nuts every day now, 11:42 I've got to digest what you're telling me. 11:45 You're talking here about women, midlife especially. 11:52 And it's beneficial if they do what? 11:54 They eat more fruits and vegetables, 11:56 the higher, the more numbers 11:58 of servings of fruits and vegetables 12:00 the lower risk of premature death 12:03 during the mid years. 12:04 But there are fruits and fruits, are they? 12:07 Are all fruits the same? 12:08 Well, all fruits, there's different fruits, 12:10 all fruits have different benefits 12:11 and some of them are... 12:13 You wouldn't wanna just eat bananas, would you? 12:14 No, no, no, you got to have a variety. 12:16 Okay. 12:17 Now this study shows men the same type of study 12:20 and it's the same thing 12:21 is that the high intake of vegetables and fruit, 12:24 the lower the risk of dying prematurely. 12:27 Does this sometimes so throw out... 12:29 Does it sometimes throw out the sugar levels in the blood 12:34 if you eat a lot of fruit? 12:35 If you eat too much fruit... 12:37 Could you get diabetes from eating fruit? 12:38 Well, it can keep your blood sugar rate too high 12:41 if you have too much. 12:43 So you want to have moderate amounts, 12:44 but you want more emphasis on vegetables. 12:45 Yeah. That's the best thing. 12:47 I don't want people calling me up and saying, 12:48 "I've eaten so much fruit, now I'm a diabetic." 12:50 Oh, no. 12:51 You want to be moderate into those good things. 12:53 Now here's the other thing about fruit and vegetables 12:55 is that lowers your risk of stroke. 12:58 Yes. 12:59 For each increment of three servings of fruits 13:01 and vegetables per day, there was 45% decrease 13:05 in the risk of death from stroke. 13:07 And you can see 13:09 there's two different types of stroke 13:10 the ischemic stroke, which is one that is a blockage 13:13 in the blood vessels, in the brain, 13:16 and then the hemorrhagic where there's hemorrhage 13:19 and all that show that 13:20 when you eat larger amounts of plant foods, 13:23 particularly vegetables and fruits, 13:25 that this reduces your risk of dying of stroke. 13:28 So up here I don't see you're saying to me, 13:30 you ought to have more Big Mac's. 13:32 No. 13:34 So that doesn't come in to the optimum... 13:35 No, when we show those studies, those show the bad results... 13:38 So this is good stuff? 13:40 This is good stuff that we need to eat. 13:42 This as food is medicine. 13:43 That's what they're showing. Yeah. 13:45 Why is it so hard for people to follow? 13:49 Why do people wanna get cancer? 13:51 Why do they want to get heart disease? 13:52 Why do they wanna get strokes? 13:54 I don't think they want to, 13:55 but they're addicted to the wrong types of foods. 13:57 Yeah. They've been brainwashed. 13:58 Yeah. 14:00 And once they caught on this merry-go-round. 14:02 It's pretty hard to get off it, isn't it? 14:04 It is. 14:05 It's a struggle for people but then can... 14:07 I've worked with a lot of people. 14:08 Yes. 14:10 Now this shows the protective elements 14:11 that we find in fruits and vegetables, 14:13 potassium lowers your blood pressure, 14:14 folate or folic acid helps to prevent high blood 14:18 homocysteine levels which can damage your heart. 14:21 Fiber, the fiber you find in these fruits and vegetables 14:25 can help you lower your blood pressure, 14:27 it lower your cholesterol 14:28 and keep blood sugar under control. 14:30 They have these antioxidants that God is putting it 14:32 within these colorful fruits and vegetables 14:35 that fight against disease such as cancer 14:37 and Alzheimer's such as vitamin C. 14:39 Now this is tons better than fruit juice, isn't it? 14:41 Yes, eating the whole fruit. Yeah. 14:43 Eating the whole fruit and the whole vegetable. 14:45 You get a tremendous whammy of sugar 14:49 when you have a glass of orange juice. 14:50 Isn't this true? Yeah. 14:51 So it's better to eat the whole orange... 14:53 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 14:54 As opposed to 'cause you can get 14:55 a lot of oranges into one glass. 14:57 Yeah. 14:58 And God never designed to that, why, did He? 15:00 No, not really. 15:01 Packages it with other things. Okay. 15:02 Now the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, 15:05 which I believe 15:06 is the most important medical society 15:08 in the country today. 15:10 These are the physicians that are trying to get 15:12 people back on a healthy lifestyle, 15:14 they have made this statement, "For the treatment, 15:17 reversal and prevention 15:19 of lifestyle related disease and chronic diseases. 15:22 The American College of Lifestyle Medicine 15:24 recommends an eating plant-based predominantly 15:27 on a variety of minimally processed 15:29 vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, 15:32 nuts and seeds." 15:33 So eating more this way. 15:35 Now, Doctor, these people are not people 15:39 on a crusade for the Bible, are they? 15:41 No, these are scientists of all faith 15:44 and some have no faith. 15:45 These are tough scientists. These are. 15:47 But what they're saying virtually is 15:49 and some of them are not aware of this, 15:50 of course, they're saying, "If you want to be healthy, 15:52 you better follow the diet 15:54 that is prescribed in the Bible." 15:55 That's where it shows. This is scientific. 15:58 This is not just a religious philosophy. 15:59 Yeah. 16:01 This is what hard science is showing. 16:02 And so, you know, for an atheist 16:03 he can be blessed by the Bible too, can't he? 16:05 That's right. 16:07 And the Christian that doesn't eat 16:08 that way can be suffering. 16:10 Yeah. Would you read this again? 16:12 Now this is the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 16:14 which I'm a member of this... 16:15 This is the world's leading society 16:17 of professional nutritionists in the world, 16:19 and they've made this statement. 16:21 "It is the position of the Academy 16:23 of Nutrition and Dietetics 16:24 that appropriately planned vegetarian, 16:28 including vegan diets are helpful, 16:30 nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits 16:34 for the prevention and treatment 16:35 of certain diseases." 16:37 They go on to say that "Vegetarians and vegans 16:41 are at reduce risk of certain health conditions, 16:45 including ischemic heart disease, 16:47 type 2 diabetes, hypertension, 16:49 and certain types of cancer, and obesity." 16:52 Here you have the leading nutrition society 16:54 in the world saying this is a healthier way to go. 16:58 Let me just say a word to all my friends 17:00 who are watching this television program. 17:02 Hey, this is exciting, isn't it? 17:05 We're discovering today how we can live longer 17:07 and look better and overcome all these diseases. 17:11 Now some of you may be saying, 17:13 "This is too much, this is overwhelming." 17:16 But I want you to know, God can help us. 17:19 We may feel that we can't do it. 17:22 But with Jesus, all things are possible. 17:25 Don't you believe this? I believe that. 17:26 Yeah. 17:27 And Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ." 17:29 Yeah. 17:30 Give us some tips for eating 17:32 a healthy vegetarian diet, please? 17:34 Yeah, a lot of people get confused about 17:35 how do I get on a vegetarian diet? 17:37 How do I eat this plant-based 17:38 that the medical people are saying we should eat? 17:40 Well, the first thing is to eat mostly whole plant foods, 17:44 not the processed foods but the whole food. 17:47 The second one is to include 5-9 17:49 servings of vegetables and fruits daily in your diet, 17:51 including a variety of colors the most... 17:54 Here we have the color wheel. 17:55 You want all these different colors 17:57 or rainbow colors, 17:58 as well as plenty of dark green leafy vegetables 18:00 and include raw plant foods in your diet daily if possible, 18:04 and don't overcook your vegetables, 18:06 it's very important. 18:08 People in some areas of the country 18:09 they kill their vegetables. 18:11 Yeah, they kill it. 18:12 We wanna try to include at least 35 grams of fiber 18:15 in your diet each day 18:17 from a variety of different plant foods. 18:19 You only find fiber in plant foods, 18:21 the average American only gets 11 grams. 18:23 Minimize processed foods as much as possible. 18:26 Especially avoid those foods 18:28 that contain refined carbohydrates, 18:30 eat mainly complex carbohydrates 18:33 found in peas, beans, whole grains, and vegetables. 18:36 Can I just throw this in 18:37 because I'm enjoying this immensely today. 18:41 I've got a copy here. 18:42 I only saw this last night, Consumer Reports. 18:45 It's got an article here entitled... 18:48 Look at this would you? It's almost disgusting. 18:51 Yes. Danger at the Deli. 18:53 Right. 18:55 Look at this, my friend, 18:56 it's talking about processed meats. 18:58 They're the worst. 18:59 Oh, goodness me, are you telling me something? 19:02 It says here that it's more than... 19:06 And now this would be conservative. 19:07 "More than 70,000 Americans die 19:11 every year of cancer and heart disease 19:16 because they eat processed meats." 19:18 That's right. That's right. I mean, it's poison. 19:20 It is. Yeah. 19:21 It's toxic food. 19:22 And you wouldn't want to know 19:24 what's in those processed meats, 19:25 let me say, putting all parts of the animal. 19:26 Yeah, yes. 19:28 And stuff you wouldn't want to know. 19:29 Now this is from Consumer Reports. 19:31 It says, "If you're eating those processed," 19:34 you say processed. 19:36 I say processed 19:37 because I come from different part of the world. 19:39 I realize that. 19:40 But we're getting on well, aren't we? 19:41 But listen, if you want to avoid 19:44 some of these terrible 19:47 disgusting diseases, 19:49 then don't eat these processed meats. 19:51 That's number one. 19:53 But more than this, 19:54 get on a healthy vegetarian diet, 19:57 a plant-based diet, is this right? 19:58 That's right. 20:00 And see, here's another one 20:01 if we wanna eliminate trans-fatty acids, 20:03 another processed oils they put hydrogen through 20:06 and try to make them solid. 20:07 And we wanna rely more on whole foods such as nuts, 20:11 seeds, and avocados, those are healthy fats to use. 20:15 Use vegetable oils only in moderation 20:17 'cause those are very concentrated, 20:19 but the oil of the Bible, 20:20 the unrefined extra virgin olive oil 20:23 is more of an optimal type of oil to use. 20:25 Now tell me, talk to me because I like that 20:27 so I wanna hear some good news today. 20:29 Tell me about the extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil? 20:34 So unfortunately, a lot of these olive oils 20:37 on the market they've been processed, 20:38 they've been decolorized, they've been purified... 20:40 Yeah. 20:42 You want it like the days of the Bible. 20:45 Extra virgin, first cold-pressed 20:48 unrefined and unfiltered. 20:50 You're listening to this, my friend, this is important. 20:52 If it's a little cloudy, that's good because 20:54 that's retaining all those 20:57 healthy types of phytochemicals. 20:59 How much is one allowed per day of...? 21:02 Well, olive oil, those are fat 21:04 so you want to be moderate in your cooking with it. 21:07 So... Mainly monounsaturated fats. 21:08 Yeah, they're monounsaturated 21:09 which is a healthier type of fats... 21:11 Not a lot of saturated fat. 21:12 Yeah, not very much saturated fat. 21:14 But how much, come on I want you to tell me, 21:15 how much can I have? 21:16 How much can you have? Yeah. 21:18 I'm asking, I want to know. 21:19 Well, I would use it just in limited amount. 21:21 Yeah, I know but... 21:22 I wouldn't go more a tablespoon or so a day. 21:24 A tablespoon? 21:25 Yeah, just, you know, lightly cook with it. 21:27 And not a teaspoon. 21:28 Because, you know, there's 40 olives 21:30 in 1 tablespoon of oil. 21:31 I never knew I'm learning something here today, 21:33 40 olives... 21:34 In one tablespoon of olive oil. 21:37 So it's so you got to know that they're concentrated fats 21:39 'cause I studied that. 21:40 I know that. 21:42 I've been an expert in olive oil actually. 21:43 Yeah. 21:44 And Greek olive oil 21:46 is amongst the best in the world. 21:47 That's the best. 21:49 Because they use the koroneiki olives. 21:50 I'm told the Italian olive oil is not so good. 21:51 Not necessarily 'cause there's been 21:53 some adulteration with some of the olives. 21:54 Yeah, you hear this, folks. You have to watch. 21:55 You have to get it from a good company. 21:57 But they say Spanish olive oil is okay and Greek olive oil... 22:00 Greek olive oil is the best in the world. 22:02 Did you know Australian olive oil 22:04 is the best in the world? 22:05 Okay, you're a little biased there. 22:07 Okay. 22:08 And the other thing is we wanna use less salt 22:11 and for your flavorings use more natural herbs. 22:13 Yeah. 22:14 You know, and then instead of milk 22:17 there are plant-based milks such as soy milk 22:20 and almond milk is alternative to dairy milk 22:22 and they don't have all that saturated fat and cholesterol. 22:24 You think soy milk's okay? I do. 22:26 Somebody told me, now you're the expert, 22:29 you know, I don't know everything about this, 22:30 not a lot anyhow. 22:32 And they say that soy milk and stuff 22:35 can affect your hormones, have you heard this? 22:38 I've heard that. That's a myth. 22:40 It's a myth? It's a myth. 22:41 There's phytoestrogens and those not estrogens. 22:45 They look like, they're kind of similar to estrogen 22:48 but they're from plants. 22:50 They actually prevent different types of cancer. 22:52 So if I eat soy and if I drink soy milk, 22:56 I'm not gonna get a squeaky voice. 22:58 No, you won't. No. 22:59 That is a myth. 23:01 And we're gonna address that in a little bit. 23:02 The other thing is to use plant proteins 23:05 instead such as beans, legumes, and soy foods 23:07 in place of the meat, fish, 23:09 and poultry if you want to get on this vegetarian diet. 23:12 Okay. 23:13 Tell me about some of the superfoods? 23:15 Okay, there are a number of wonderful foods 23:18 that I encourage people to eat more of. 23:21 But first of all, I want you to remember 23:22 all these plant foods 23:24 prevent the diseases that are killing us. 23:26 Yeah. 23:28 And let's go over some of these foods. 23:29 So this is good news really, isn't it? 23:30 Yeah. Yeah. 24:34 Now cinnamon is also a traditional spice 24:37 that's a natural remedy and that's a very good thing 24:39 to include in your diet. 24:40 So I can have some cinnamon buns. 24:42 Not cinnamon buns, 24:43 but the regular cinnamon is good... 24:45 Yeah, okay. 24:46 Because it has 24:47 the anti-inflammatory compounds, 24:49 it helps with pain and stiffness in muscle joints. 24:51 Yeah. Cinnamon is a wonderful herb. 24:53 And it actually has 24:54 anti-inflammatory compounds in carminative 24:59 which means they helps to relieve gas 25:01 if people get bloated a lot by having cinnamon in their diet. 25:04 And what's very interesting it helps to control blood sugar 25:08 which is good news for type 2 diabetics. 25:11 I never knew that. That's amazing. 25:12 There's actually a compound and its long name 25:14 methylhydroxychalcone polymer. 25:16 This is a compound that increases 25:19 glucose metabolism and cells 25:21 and it actually mimics insulin function 25:23 so that's why... 25:24 That's amazing.
