00:02 I'm John Carter in Moscow.
00:04 In Havana, Cuba. 00:07 Now in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. 00:10 I'm John Carter in Petra. 00:13 Right here in Communist China. 00:16 Reporting from India. 00:18 Hi, I'm John Carter in the Solomon Islands. 00:21 I'm John Carter in Soweto. 00:24 From El Salvador. 00:26 I'm John Carter in Sydney, Australia. 00:29 Join us with questions and answers 00:32 with Pastor John Carter. 00:36 Hello, friend. 00:37 Welcome today to the Carter Report. 00:39 I'm John Carter. 00:40 And today, we're going to answer your Bible questions, 00:44 not your political questions. 00:48 Now, few weeks ago in our studio, 00:51 I asked folks, you have some questions? 00:54 Write them down on these cards and we got so many questions 00:58 and so many cards. 01:00 And then we have questions that are sent in from people 01:03 who watch the telecast. 01:05 If you've got a good question, it doesn't matter what it is, 01:09 if you've got a question from the Bible, 01:12 not about politics, 01:14 write to me, John Carter, 01:16 P.O. Box 1900, Thousand Oaks, California 91358. 01:21 In Australia, write to me at the address on the screen. 01:24 At the address in Terrigal, New South Wales. 01:29 And so, today is a Q&A 01:32 and these are questions that you have sent to me, 01:37 written down on those pieces of card, 01:40 on those bits of paper, those cards. 01:43 Here's the first one that I picked up from the list. 01:47 "What does it mean that God will punish 01:49 to the fourth generation?" 01:51 See Numbers 14:18, 01:55 and we're gonna put up these questions 01:56 on the screen. 01:58 But if the question is pretty long, 02:00 we're only going to put up the first part of the question. 02:03 So why don't you come over here with me to Numbers 02:07 14:18, 02:11 dear hearts and gentle people, 02:16 I'm going to give it to you today 02:19 out of the Holy Scriptures. 02:22 Numbers 14:18, "The Lord is longsuffering 02:26 and abundant in mercy, 02:29 forgiving iniquity and transgression." 02:33 This is the gospel. 02:35 God is loving, God is merciful. 02:37 God forgives the sins of His people 02:39 when they confess their sins. 02:41 "But He by no means clears the guilty, 02:44 visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children 02:48 to the third and a fourth generation." 02:53 What does it mean? 02:55 Sort of an awful text, isn't it? 02:57 God's going to forgive you sins, 02:59 but He's going to visit 03:01 the iniquity of the fathers upon the children 03:05 to the third and the fourth generation. 03:10 What does it mean? 03:13 But listen to this, by inheritance, 03:17 an example, 03:20 the sins of the parents 03:23 are passed on to the children. 03:27 Except by the grace of God, 03:28 except 03:30 if there is a divine intervention. 03:35 Let me give you some examples. 03:38 A mother who was on drugs. 03:43 I was talking to a grandmother the other day, 03:46 and her daughter, 03:48 she tells me is the most beautiful looking girl 03:53 and she's had a little boy and he's now nine years of age, 03:58 and for years and years and years, 04:01 she's been sleeping around, 04:05 and she's on hard drugs. 04:10 Her grandmother told me. 04:11 She said, we're trying to bring up the little boy. 04:14 And the mother comes back regularly 04:16 with another boyfriend. 04:19 And she's so beautiful, 04:21 but she's on hardcore drugs. 04:26 Now, except by the grace of God 04:29 and the intervention of the grandmother 04:33 and the grandfather, 04:34 what chance has that little boy got? 04:38 If you leave that little boy to his parents, 04:42 who seemed to have absolutely no sense 04:46 of responsibility at all. 04:50 That's my example. 04:54 Then of course, you've got HIV that this can, 04:59 if there's no intervention with drugs. 05:04 When the mother gives birth, 05:06 little baby can be born with it 05:08 if there's no prior treatment with drugs. 05:12 Listen to this. 05:14 Children with parents and parents ought 05:17 to listen up to this 05:18 because it's not just your life. 05:21 Parents who lie, 05:22 cheat and steal, 05:25 listen to this, it is likely that your children 05:29 are going to be the same as you. 05:32 People who lie and cheat, 05:35 full of fraud and deceit. 05:39 The Bible says to the third and the fourth generation, 05:43 it's passed on from generation to generation, 05:45 their whole nations that are like this, 05:47 you know what I'm talking about? 05:50 Whole nations, year after year, crime, crime 05:53 and it gets worse and worse, 05:56 unless there is a divine intervention 06:00 that breaks the course of sin. 06:04 And that is why I believe that the only solution 06:07 to the problem of crime 06:09 and sin is not social work or political activity. 06:14 So that's why in the Carter Report, 06:17 I'm not afraid to tell you this. 06:19 I'm not a Republican, and I'm not a Democrat. 06:21 I'm an independent for Jesus, you see. 06:25 I belong to one party, I belong to Jesus' party. 06:30 Now that may offend some of you, so be it. 06:35 The only solution is the Gospel of Christ. 06:39 Question number two, 06:40 and we put up the summary on the screen. 06:43 When you die, where do you go? 06:46 What happens? 06:47 Do I see my mom and dad when I die? 06:50 Or am I sleeping until the Day of Judgment 06:53 when Christ returns? 06:55 I want you to take your Bible please 06:57 because we base everything here upon the Word of God. 06:59 We're going to turn to John 11:11 and 13. 07:05 John 11:11. 07:09 This is talking about Jesus 07:10 and the death of one of His friends. 07:12 "These things He said, Jesus said, 07:14 and after that, he said to them, 07:16 'Our friend Lazarus sleeps, 07:19 but I go, I'm gonna go there, 07:21 that I may wake him up." 07:24 And verse 13, 07:25 "However, Jesus spoke of his death, 07:29 but they thought that he was speaking 07:30 about taking rest in sleep." 07:33 Verse 14, "Then Jesus said to them, 07:35 plainly, 'Lazarus is dead.'" 07:37 Some people say to me, 07:38 where did you get this idea 07:40 that when a person dies, he falls asleep. 07:42 I got it from Jesus. 07:44 Jesus said, "Lazarus is sleeping." 07:47 And then Jesus said, "Lazarus is dead." 07:51 I know this goes against conventional theology, 07:54 but I don't really care. 07:55 Look at verses 23 to 24. 07:57 Jesus is talking to the dead man's family. 08:02 Verse 23. 08:03 John 11:23, "Jesus said to her, 08:06 'Your brother will rise again.' 08:09 Martha said to him, 'I know that he will rise again 08:12 in the resurrection at the last day.'" 08:15 And then if you look at verse 25, 08:17 "Jesus said to her, 08:18 'I am the resurrection and the life. 08:20 He who believes in Me, 08:22 though he may die, he shall live.'" 08:25 Now the Bible tells me that Jesus, 08:28 Son of God, came to the tomb of Lazarus. 08:33 He said, "Roll away the stone." They said, "Don't do it. 08:35 He's been dead for four days." 08:38 His body is already decaying, there's a stench. 08:41 Bible is pretty plain in our talks. 08:44 And Jesus goes to the tomb, 08:46 and He cries, the Bible says with a loud voice, 08:48 He says, "Lazarus come forth." 08:51 And the Bible tells me in the same chapter, 08:53 you can read it with your own eyes. 08:55 This dead man who'd been dead for four days, 08:58 hears the voice of the Son of God 09:00 and he walks out of the tomb. 09:02 He has a resurrection. 09:04 I want you to notice this. 09:06 I was listening to a famous television preacher 09:08 on a famous television station 09:10 here in the United States of America. 09:12 He said, "What a story Lazarus must have told the people." 09:16 He must have told them about the glories 09:17 of meeting Jesus in 09:19 or meeting the Father in heaven. 09:22 And meeting the angels and all the crystal palaces, 09:26 he told them a tremendous story about heaven. 09:29 No, that's not true. 09:30 That's nonsense. 09:32 Lazarus was not called down from heaven, 09:35 and he wasn't called out from hell. 09:37 And he didn't come out of a place called purgatory 09:39 because there's no such place to come out of. 09:43 He was in the tomb. 09:45 And the Bible tells me he was sleeping 09:47 and when Jesus comes back, 09:49 he is going to raise from the dead 09:52 those who believe in Him. 09:54 This is the word of the Lord. 09:55 Come over here to 1 Corinthians 15:51 and 52, 10:00 dear hearts and gentle people. 10:03 If you've got questions you can send them to me. 10:06 We'll put up the address on the screen for a moment. 10:09 And you can send me your Bible questions. 10:11 1 Corinthians 15:51 10:17 and 52, 10:19 "Behold, I tell you a mystery. 10:22 We shall not all sleep..." 10:24 How plain can it get." 10:25 We shall not all sleep, 10:27 but we shall all be changed, 10:30 in a moment, 10:31 in the twinkling of an eye, 10:33 at the last trumpet. 10:34 For the trumpet will sound, 10:37 and the dead will be raised incorruptible, 10:40 and we shall be changed." 10:41 When Jesus comes back, 10:43 He's going to give a mighty shout. 10:47 The trumpet is going to sound 10:51 and Jesus is going to say to His sleeping saints 10:55 come out of there. 10:56 Like Lazarus, they're going to come out of the tomb. 10:59 So I believe as the Bible teaches 11:02 that when a person dies, 11:03 he doesn't go to hell, 11:05 and he doesn't go to heaven 11:07 or else Jesus did a bad turn to Lazarus. 11:10 Imagine you're in heaven, and you're having a great time. 11:14 And Jesus says, "Come back down here." 11:16 I don't believe that. 11:18 I believe we sleep 11:20 until the glorious day 11:22 of the resurrection. 11:25 Question three, now, I gotta go fast, I'm sorry. 11:28 Will God forgive you for having an abortion? 11:32 Somebody asked this question. 11:34 Will you go to heaven and spend eternity with God 11:37 if you have had an abortion? 11:42 I believe this, 11:43 the Christian religion teaches love, 11:46 compassion and forgiveness. 11:47 Come over here to Luke 15:1 and 2. 11:50 Luke 15:1 and 2. 11:53 But apparently a lot of Christians 11:54 don't understand what Christianity is all about. 11:57 Luke 15:1 and 2. 12:00 You see, going to church 12:01 doesn't make you a Christian anymore 12:03 than going into a garage makes you a motorcar. 12:06 Look at Luke 15:1 and 2, 12:09 "Then all the tax collectors and sinners 12:12 drew near to Him to hear Him. 12:15 And the Pharisees and scribes complained saying, 12:18 'This man receives sinners and eats with them.'" 12:21 The biggest criticism of the legalists 12:23 and the Pharisees was that Jesus loved people, 12:27 and He loved sinners. 12:30 And so the great message 12:31 of the Christian church is not this, 12:33 that God is going to send you the hell 12:34 is that Christ died for you, 12:37 and that God loves you. 12:39 But so many people have been 12:40 driven out of the Christian church, 12:42 because of the coldness of the Pharisees. 12:46 You see, it's possible to be very wrong 12:49 in being very right. 12:52 Christianity is not about calling names 12:55 and condemning people. 12:57 It's supposed to be if I read the Bible correctly, 13:00 it's about love, compassion and kindness. 13:03 Look, come over here fast. 13:05 I gotta go faster. 13:06 Come over here to John 13:35. 13:08 And I'll be answering more questions next week. 13:11 John 13:35, 13:16 Jesus said, "By this all will know 13:19 that you are My disciples, 13:21 if you have love for one another." 13:23 And that includes the girl who has just got pregnant, 13:27 and the woman who's just had an abortion. 13:31 In some countries, listen to this, 13:34 including the United States of America. 13:39 And I'm talking about a church in Los Angeles. 13:43 A girl who gets pregnant is made to stand up 13:46 in front of the church and confess her sins, 13:48 but the man is never called. 13:53 Hey, I had a young woman come to see me. 13:56 She'd been disfellowshipped twice 14:01 In Los Angeles. 14:03 She got disfellowshipped because she got pregnant. 14:07 And then the guy wanted to marry her, 14:09 but because he didn't go to her church, 14:11 when she married him, 14:13 she got disfellowshipped the second time. 14:17 We talked about this being Christianity, 14:19 that's not the Gospel of Christ. 14:21 It's the gospel of somebody else. 14:23 Let me talk about... 14:25 And men are the ones who get off in this matter. 14:29 In some countries, I've been to them. 14:31 The girls are made to come down the front 14:34 and confess before the whole church, 14:36 especially the male elders, 14:39 and go into the details. 14:41 Is this the religion of Christ? 14:44 No, it's the religion of somebody else. 14:47 Let me talk a moment about abortion 14:49 because I'm an old time conservative. 14:52 I believe that human beings are sacred 14:54 being made in the image of God. 14:57 The Bible tells me that God knew all about me 15:00 before I was born. 15:01 Come over here 15:03 to Jeremiah 1:5. 15:09 God says to Jeremiah the Prophet, you have to go, 15:12 turn up the text real fast, folk, come on. 15:15 "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. 15:20 Before you were born, I sanctified you. 15:24 I ordained you a prophet to the nations." 15:27 Listen, before I was born, 15:29 I was on God's mind. 15:33 So I believe, I don't believe 15:35 that which is conceived in a mother's womb 15:39 can be merely called a fetus. 15:43 Oh, the fetus is nothing. 15:45 Doesn't really matter. 15:46 That so called fetus is a child of God. 15:51 Now I know I'm gonna get everybody mad now. 15:53 I'll get some of the liberals mad, 15:55 and I'll get some of the conservatives mad. 15:58 Today it is believed 16:02 by millions in America 16:06 that humans are not better than the animals. 16:10 Because of the teachings of the great Englishman, 16:15 Charles Darwin, who was not a bad man, 16:19 he wanted to become a minister, you know this? 16:23 But if you take his teachings, particularly Neo-Darwinism, 16:28 to their logical conclusion, 16:30 we all came from a common ancestor. 16:34 And that was some slimy thing 16:39 in a primordial pool billions of years ago. 16:43 And therefore, people who believe this stuff, 16:47 which I believe is unscientific believe 16:50 that we are all related and we are animals, 16:53 same as the dogs and the cats and the monkeys. 16:57 Now, I don't believe this, 16:58 I believe it's one of the biggest lies, 17:00 one of the most unscientific lies, 17:03 I believe, it's a bunch of nonsense. 17:08 I'll get plain as I go along. 17:12 I believe abortion on demand 17:16 is morally wrong, 17:19 because of the sacredness of life. 17:22 There is nothing more helpless 17:25 than the unborn baby, 17:28 and the unborn baby is worthy of our support 17:33 and our protection. 17:35 I also believe in grace and forgiveness. 17:39 I want you to come over here to 1 John 1:9. 17:42 So I don't really like 17:44 this business of getting after people 17:47 and driving them out of the church 17:49 and driving them out of families, 17:51 because people have got the Pharisee bug. 17:55 1 John Chapter 1, 17:57 that's towards the end of the Bible, 17:58 1 John1:9. 18:04 1 John 1:9. 18:10 Have I got the right text? 18:12 Well, I'm going to go with the one on the screen. 18:14 1 John 1:9 says, look at the text. 18:18 "If we confess our sins, 18:21 He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins 18:24 and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 18:28 There's forgiveness for every sin. 18:31 Every sin that we feel sorry about 18:33 and every sin that we confess to God, 18:35 you know the worst sin, 18:37 "Hey, am I gonna get worked up now?" 18:40 You know what the worst sin is? 18:43 Self righteousness. 18:46 The sin of people who go to churches 18:49 and who despise others. 18:52 What we need to do my friend 18:53 is to stop looking at other people 18:54 and start looking at ourselves. 18:57 And then we may be closer to God. 19:02 And so I believe there's mercy 19:03 and forgiveness for every sin. 19:05 And to that lady who sent in that message, 19:07 I want you to know that Jesus loves you 19:09 and God loves you. 19:11 And there's a place for you in the kingdom. 19:14 What does it mean that there will be a time 19:16 when man will live without a mediator? 19:18 Here's the next question. What does... 19:21 This is believed by lots and lots of people, 19:23 what does it mean that there'll be a time 19:25 when man will live without a mediator? 19:27 Number one, let me say this, 19:29 there'll never ever be a time 19:33 when God forsakes His people. 19:35 "Hey, I've got to live by myself. 19:37 No mediator, no help." 19:39 No, there will never be a time 19:41 when God forsakes His people. 19:43 Come over here with me to Hebrews 13:5. 19:49 Hebrews 13:5, 19:52 "Look at this in the Word of God. 19:55 Let your conduct be without covetousness, 19:57 be content with such things as you have. 20:00 For He Himself has said," what does it say? 20:03 "I'll never, never leave you. 20:06 I'll never ever forsake you." 20:10 So, my friend, I want you to know this. 20:13 With Jesus, you're never alone, 20:15 you're never forgotten, you're never forsaken. 20:19 So you'll never be yourself alone. 20:20 No, no, I've got to do this. 20:23 I've just got to get so righteous that I can... 20:27 Hey, what you need to understand is the gospel, 20:30 will never ever be alone. 20:33 There will come a time when Christ foresees His work 20:36 as our High Priest. 20:39 The door of mercy will finally close. 20:42 Like when God shut the door to the ark. 20:47 The Bible talks about the last days 20:49 and it compares them to the days of Noah. 20:53 They were given an opportunity to get inside the ark. 20:56 The ark represents Christ. 20:59 The ark had a hole in the side of it, 21:02 like Christ did with a spear. 21:06 The ark represents Christ. 21:08 People can get inside 21:10 and the people inside was saved, 21:12 and God was with them. 21:15 And the people outside could have got inside. 21:19 But if you're inside the ark, my friend, 21:21 you are not condemned. 21:25 And they're inside the ark, 21:26 not because they're good enough, 21:28 they're inside the ark because God is good enough. 21:31 Wants you to get that into your head. 21:34 Legalism says, you've got to become good enough. 21:36 The gospel says, 21:38 "Christ is good enough for you." 21:39 This is the word of the Lord. 21:41 Come over here to 2 Corinthians 6:2. 21:44 2 Corinthians 6:2. 21:48 2 Corinthians 6:2, 21:51 keep up with me, 21:52 "For He says, 'In an acceptable time 21:56 I have heard you, and in the day of salvation, 22:00 I have helped you. 22:01 Behold, now is the accepted time, 22:05 behold, now is the day of salvation.'" 22:08 Not after you're dead. 22:10 So I can come to Christ now. 22:12 And if I come to Christ now, and we shouldn't put it off 22:15 because the person who plans 22:16 to repent at the 11th hour 22:18 dies at two minutes to 11. 22:21 So the Bible says, "Come now," 22:24 but you and I in Christ inside the ark 22:27 will never, ever be alone. 22:31 Can you help me with question number five? 22:34 Can you help me understand Daniel 11 and 12? 22:37 In two minutes? I don't think so. 22:39 Who is the king of the North? That's easy. 22:41 That's the Antichrist. 22:42 Also, can you explain the 1,290 and the 1,335 days 22:46 of Daniel 12:11 and 12. 22:48 Let me give you some light on this. 22:50 Daniel 11:36 talks about 22:54 the last manifestation of the Antichrist 22:57 who is also called the abomination of desolation. 23:02 Daniel 11:36, 23:04 "Then the king shall do according to his own will, 23:08 he shall exalt and magnify himself 23:09 above every God, 23:11 shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, 23:13 and shall prosper 23:14 till the wrath has been accomplished, 23:17 for what has been determined shall be done." 23:20 This is the great Antichrist. 23:22 This is the person who is called in Scripture, 23:26 the king of the North. 23:29 The king of the North is not Russia. 23:33 The king of the North is not Canada. 23:37 The king of the North is not the United States 23:41 because they're in the northern hemisphere. 23:46 The prophecies 23:48 are largely symbolic. 23:53 The king of the North refers 23:55 to the great power of the old Babylonians 23:59 as they would come down upon the North, 24:01 upon the city of Jerusalem. 24:03 In the New Testament setting, 24:05 the king of the North 24:07 is the final manifestation of the Antichrist. 24:12 Look at Daniel 12:1. 24:14 So he comes against the church. 24:16 He comes against the people of God, 24:18 symbolized by Jerusalem. 24:21 Daniel 12:1, "At that time, Michael, Christ shall stand up. 24:25 The great prince who stands 24:26 watch over the sons of your people, 24:28 and there shall be a time of trouble 24:30 such as never was 24:31 since there was a nation even to that time. 24:34 And at that time, your people shall be delivered." 24:37 Everyone who is found written in the book. 24:41 The Bible tells me this, I gotta go faster. 24:45 In the last days, the great Antichrist, 24:47 the symbolic king of the North comes against Jerusalem, 24:50 he comes against the church. 24:53 And when it appears as though God's people 24:55 are going to be destroyed, 24:57 Christ stands up for them. 25:00 And there is a tremendous deliverance 25:04 when Jesus comes back for His people. 25:08 Now these time periods, real fast 25:12 1,260 days, 1,290 days, 1,335 days, 25:15 they are the time periods when the Antichrist rules. 25:18 They have already been fulfilled in the Middle Ages, 25:22 but they will be filled full. 25:26 You get that? 25:28 Jesus said, "These things are written 25:30 so that when it is come to pass, 25:32 you will know that I am He." 25:35 They have been partially fulfilled, 25:38 but they are yet to be filled 25:41 to the very, very top. 25:45 Now, we're answering Bible questions. 25:50 These questions come to us from our studio audience, 25:53 they also come to us from our vast audience 25:57 around the world. 25:59 And we'll be back very soon 26:02 to answer more of your questions. 26:04 Don't go away and God bless you forever. 26:21 God has got a time and a place for everything. 26:24 Nothing happens by chance. 26:28 In spite of the powers of darkness, 26:31 nothing can destroy the Church of God. 26:36 And I'm not ashamed 26:38 of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. 26:44 That the gospel is not about you and me, 26:46 it is the good news about the Lord Jesus Christ. 26:53 What and where is heaven? 26:59 This DVD series from John Carter will be yours 27:02 with a gift of $50 US or $70 Australian. 27:06 Write to us at the address on the screen, 27:08 visit cartereport.org, 27:09 your home for inspirational teaching. 27:22 God has blessed us all. 27:24 Those blessings can be passed down 27:26 to our families and to the family of Christ. 27:30 A monetary gift from your state 27:33 can be given to support the tremendous work 27:36 of the Carter Report. 27:38 Your gift delivers hope 27:40 to those waiting to hear the Word of God 27:43 and changes lives all over the world. 27:47 Vehicles of all kinds, 27:50 boats and property can be transformed 27:54 to support the schools, orphanages, churches 27:58 and television programs of the Carter Report. 28:02 If this is your wish, or if you have questions, 28:06 please contact us. 28:08 You can call the number on the screen or write to us. 28:12 Thank you for making us a part of your legacy. 28:24 For a copy of today's program, 28:27 please contact us at P.O.
