00:01 After almost 60 years as a pastor and evangelist,
00:04 John Carter has touched the lives 00:06 of millions with honesty and integrity. 00:10 He is convinced that the answers 00:12 to all our questions are found in an ancient book. 00:17 Today, he answers questions that you, 00:20 his viewers have asked. 00:22 John Carter invites you to listen, 00:25 weigh the evidence and draw your own conclusions. 00:28 Welcome to questions and answers about divorce, 00:32 marriage, depression, rebellious kids, 00:36 religion, and much more. 00:45 Hello, friend, I'm John Carter. 00:48 Welcome today to the Carter Report, part two. 00:52 You're gonna hear today the voice of my great friend, 00:56 Wayne Hackett, 00:57 one of the most recognized voices 00:59 across the great United States of America. 01:02 Wayne has been 01:03 a part of the Carter Report team 01:04 for many, many years. 01:06 And today, Wayne, here is a personal welcome 01:10 to our program today to you 01:13 and your beautiful wife, Marilyn. 01:15 Welcome today to the Carter Report, 01:18 ladies and gentlemen. 01:22 Thank you, Pastor Carter. 01:23 I'm happy to present these questions to you 01:26 from our viewers. 01:28 Sharon in Manila would like to know more about the gospel. 01:32 What is it all about? 01:36 Well, that's true. 01:38 There's a lot of confusion about all sorts of things, 01:41 but you know, a book that helps us to escape 01:44 the pit of confusion is right here. 01:49 It is called the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. 01:53 Now the Bible talks a great deal about the gospel. 01:56 And as you know, 01:57 the word gospel simply means good news. 02:02 Isn't that good? Good news. 02:05 Now I'm gonna go to the tremendous book, 02:08 the fantastic book of Romans. 02:11 The great preacher Tyndale, 02:13 the great British reformer referred to this book as good, 02:17 glad, and merry tidings, 02:18 that makes a man's heart to sing for joy 02:21 and his feet to dance. 02:23 Wow. 02:25 Romans 1:2 says, 02:28 "The gospel He promised beforehand through His prophets 02:33 in the Holy Scriptures regarding His Son," 02:37 then it says, 02:39 "Jesus Christ our Lord." 02:44 The gospel is about God. 02:48 The gospel is about Christ. 02:50 The gospel is about Jesus. 02:54 That's the good news. 02:55 The good news is not about you. 02:57 The good news is not about me. 03:00 There's no good news about this world. 03:02 The good news, my friend, is about God. 03:06 What is the gospel? What is the good news? 03:09 The gospel is this. 03:11 God the Creator, Yahweh, Elohim, 03:14 the self-existent God decided out of sheer grace 03:17 and love and mercy to become a human being 03:20 in the person of Christ. 03:22 He lived among us, lived a sinless life. 03:25 Then He went to the cross and paid for my sins 03:29 and then He rose from the dead 03:31 and He's going to come back again. 03:32 That's the gospel. 03:34 The gospel is not about you, 03:36 the gospel is not about me. 03:37 It concerns us, but primarily it's not about us 03:40 because there's no good news about us. 03:42 The gospel is about Christ, it's about God. 03:47 And the gospel tells me this that Christ has died for you, 03:49 Christ loves you. 03:51 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, 03:53 so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, 03:56 but have everlasting life. 03:57 So if I come to Christ as a penitent sinner 04:03 and trust in Him, I pass from death unto life 04:07 and my name is written down in glory. 04:09 I say, "Hallelujah." 04:11 What do you say, my friend? 04:13 I come as the leper with all of my filth 04:15 and all of my sin. 04:17 I come just as I am. 04:21 But note this, I don't stay just as I am. 04:25 The grace of God 04:26 working through the Holy Spirit changes me. 04:30 So I become a new person. 04:34 That is the heart and the soul 04:37 and the essence and the simplicity 04:40 of the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord 04:45 Randall from London is wondering, 04:47 what kind of future do you see for the church? 04:50 It seems to be dying out in America, 04:52 Australia, and Europe. 04:57 Well, I'd say to you, my friend, 04:59 don't be deceived by appearances. 05:03 The true church of the living God will never, 05:06 never, never die out. 05:10 And let me remind you of this, 05:12 that the church at the very end of time 05:16 may look a little bit different to the church right now. 05:21 God has got a church and Jesus said, 05:24 "The gates of hell will not prevail against His church." 05:29 I don't care where the church is, 05:31 whether it's in China, whether the church is booming 05:34 and growing and going with the mighty power of God 05:38 or whether the church is in the United States of America 05:42 or Canada or down in Australia 05:45 or across in Europe or in Great Britain. 05:48 The gates of hell will not prevail against the church. 05:52 Now let me read you a text Roman, 05:57 not Romans, but Revelation 7:9, 06:02 here it is. 06:04 "After this I looked, and there before me 06:06 was a great multitude that no one could count, 06:11 from every nation, tribe, people and language, 06:15 standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. 06:18 They were wearing white robes 06:20 and were holding palm branches in their hands." 06:23 This is a picture of the church, 06:26 the church that is ready when Jesus returns. 06:30 The Bible says, "It is a great multitude." 06:34 I am full of optimism after I read this text. 06:38 I believe that in the last days, 06:40 in spite of the powers of hell, 06:44 in spite of the perversity of human beings, 06:50 in spite of human ingenuity, to try to outwit God, 06:55 in spite of the devil himself, 06:59 God is going to have a church 07:01 which is going to number a great multitude. 07:04 And by the grace of God, let me tell you something. 07:07 Don't forget this. 07:09 There's room for you in the kingdom of God, 07:12 because in the last days, 07:13 God is going to save a great multitude. 07:17 This is the word of the Lord. 07:23 Bill from Cape Town is unsure about the final judgment. 07:27 How will we be judged? 07:32 Do I believe in the final judgment? 07:35 Well, the concept of the judgment 07:36 is about as unpopular as you can imagine, 07:40 because wicked people don't want to think that God 07:42 is going to call them to account. 07:44 Wicked people don't even want to think 07:45 that there is a judge. 07:47 They don't even wanna think there's a God. 07:51 Of course, I believe in the final judgment 07:54 because the Bible teaches the final judgment. 07:57 I'm gonna read you a text out of the Bible. 07:59 I'm gonna come here to the great Book 08:02 of Revelation Chapter 20, I'm trying to get the text. 08:07 Here it comes, just be patient with me. 08:11 Here it is. 08:13 Verse 11, 20:11, 08:15 "Then I saw a great white throne and him 08:18 who was seated on it. 08:20 Earth and sky fled from his presence, 08:23 and there was no place for them. 08:26 And I saw the dead, great and small, 08:29 standing before the throne and books were opened. 08:32 Another book was opened, which is the book of life. 08:36 The dead were judged according to 08:37 what they had done as recorded in the books." 08:41 Verse 13, "The sea gave up the dead that were in it, 08:46 and death and Hades or hell gave up 08:49 the dead that were in them, 08:51 and each person was judged according to what he had done." 08:57 People say, I'm totally confused now. 08:59 We're going to be judged by our works. 09:01 Yeah, you better believe it. 09:03 I am saved by grace, that's the merit, 09:08 saved meritoriously by grace. 09:12 I am saved instrumentally by faith. 09:17 Faith is the instrument that reaches out 09:20 and takes hold of the grace of God. 09:22 There's no merit in my faith. 09:24 There's only merit in the grace of God, 09:28 but I am saved evidentially by works. 09:32 There's no merit in human works, 09:35 except that works show whose side you are on. 09:41 Are you listening to me? 09:44 You and I are going to be judged according 09:46 to our works because the work show whether we are genuine 09:51 or whether we are a bunch of phoneys. 09:56 I'm saved by the blood of Christ. 09:59 I'm saved by the grace of God. 10:01 I accept this gift by faith, 10:05 but there are a lot of people who talk a lot of religion, 10:07 my friend, they're just talking religion all the time, 10:09 but it doesn't mean a thing. 10:12 The judgment will indicate, the judgment will vindicate 10:16 the very process 10:19 of how God deals with sin. 10:24 God is a righteous judge. God is a holy judge. 10:28 I was talking to a friend of mine Felino Salazar 10:30 over there in Los Angeles sometime back. 10:33 And he said to me, 10:34 "Don't forget the tape recorder is always running. 10:37 People can run away from God, 10:39 and they can curse and they can swear, 10:41 and they can fornicate and they can tell lies." 10:43 And they can carry on as we see people doing today 10:47 in the world, but he said, 10:48 "The tape recorder is running." 10:51 God has a record. 10:53 And this record will come up in a future judgment. 10:56 And the record will show whether I am a child 11:00 of God or whether I am a child of Satan. 11:05 Yes, I believe in the justice of God. 11:09 And I believe in the coming kingdom of God. 11:12 And I believe in the judgment. 11:14 And I believe that Christ is my Savior. 11:19 Chris from California thinks the pope is a breath 11:22 of fresh air. 11:24 What are your thoughts on Pope Francis? 11:27 Do you like the pope? 11:28 Do you think he'll be saved and go to heaven? 11:33 Do I like Pope Francis? 11:37 Do I think he's going to be in heaven? 11:40 Well, he seems to be a nice guy to me. 11:43 He's got a nice smile. 11:45 I like the fact that he doesn't drive 11:47 around in a huge big limousine. 11:50 Did you know this? 11:51 He drives quite in this little fiat car. 11:55 I don't know how he gets into it. 11:57 It's just a tiny little fiat. 11:59 I think one size bigger than a Bambino. 12:01 Drives this thing around, around Rome. 12:05 Well, that's really nice. 12:07 The pope, of course, as most people don't know 12:10 is a Jesuit 12:13 and probably the smartest people 12:14 in the Roman Catholic Church. 12:16 They're very smart people. 12:19 But when people say, 12:20 "Do I think the pope is going to be in heaven?" 12:22 Well, that's something you ought to be. 12:25 I think you ought to be talking to God 12:27 about this one because God is the judge. 12:32 I can't tell you whether 12:34 the pope's going to be in heaven. 12:37 I can only tell by the grace of God 12:39 that I will be in heaven 12:40 if I have come as a penitent sinner to Christ. 12:44 And if I have repented of my sins 12:46 and I've allowed the Holy Spirit 12:48 to get inside me and start to change me that, 12:51 of course, is the fruitage of salvation. 12:55 There are going to be lots and lots of wonderful 12:57 Roman Catholic people in heaven. 13:01 The Adventist Church has got a prophetess 13:04 by the name of Ellen White. 13:06 And she wrote a book called Great Controversy. 13:10 And she said, the vast majority of God's true children 13:13 were found in the Roman Catholic Church. 13:18 I think it gotta be millions and millions and millions 13:23 of wonderful Roman Catholic Christians in heaven. 13:28 I'm not gonna try to say this Catholic, this Catholic. 13:30 No, no, no. I'm not gonna say this Adventist. 13:33 No, no, no. 13:34 I'm going to leave it in the hands of God, 13:37 because God after all is said and done is the judge. 13:42 You and I have never been called 13:45 to play the part of the judge. 13:48 God is the judge. 13:52 Julia from Moscow 13:54 is looking for your thoughts on the Woke Movement? 14:01 What is truth? 14:04 Well, truth is different to what my opinion is. 14:09 My opinion, you know, 14:10 it doesn't really count for much. 14:11 People say, "Well, I got my opinion 14:14 and you got your opinion, 14:16 and therefore I've got my truth and you've got your truth." 14:20 No, I don't buy into that stuff. 14:23 I think that's really, 14:24 I'm sorry but I think that's really nonsense. 14:29 I can have my opinion, 14:30 but my opinion is often different to truth. 14:36 Truth is truth. 14:38 The earth is a sphere, that's not my opinion. 14:43 The earth goes around the sun. That is not my opinion. 14:48 That is the truth. 14:49 The universe is composed 14:51 of billions and trillions of suns. 14:55 Now we know trillions of great galaxies. 14:58 Some of them much, much bigger than the Milky Way 15:01 says that's a truth, not my opinion. 15:05 Now, when we come to spiritual matters, 15:08 the truth is found in this book, 15:11 this book which is called the Holy Scriptures. 15:15 Jesus said, "Sanctify them by your truth. 15:19 Your word is truth." 15:21 Jesus also said, "It is written, 15:24 man shall not live by bread alone, 15:26 but by every word that proceeds out 15:29 of the mouth of God." 15:31 This contains all the truth 15:33 we need to know for salvation. 15:38 Now, about a hundred years ago 15:39 in the African community in America, 15:43 they started to talk about woke, 15:46 people woke, they woke up, 15:50 they woke up to social injustice. 15:52 They woke up to racial injustice. 15:55 And in the last few years, 15:57 this has become quite a movement in America. 16:01 And I think has spread around the world. 16:03 Most things start in America, 16:06 and the rest of the world obediently gets in line. 16:11 Now there are some good things in woke. 16:15 I woke up to the fact that I was a sinner, 16:17 I came to Christ. 16:19 You woke up? 16:20 Yeah, I woke up when the Holy Spirit spoke to me. 16:23 But today it's being stretched in every imaginable way. 16:28 It's being stretched as far as racism is concerned 16:31 and gender equality 16:34 and all of those different things 16:36 that you have people saying, I'm a man, 16:39 but I woke up and I'm a woman. 16:45 I believe that God made the male and female 16:47 in the beginning, 16:48 but we're not gonna get into that now. 16:51 But woke simply is an expression 16:54 that refers to an awakening. 16:57 It can be good and it can be bad. 17:02 And as it is being practiced today on the streets 17:05 of the United States of America, 17:07 to me, it often seems to be bad, 17:12 but I believe in the great spiritual awakening 17:16 when the Spirit of God comes into my life 17:20 and the Spirit of God shows tells me that I'm a sinner. 17:25 And I come to Christ and I repent of my sins, 17:29 and I turn away from my sins. 17:31 And by the grace of God, 17:32 I start to keep the commandments of God 17:35 and walk in the way of the truth. 17:38 That's the awakening I wish for every person, 17:41 including you, my dear friend. 17:46 Cindy from Portland is assuming that as a white man, 17:50 you may not support Black Lives Matter. 17:53 Is she right? 17:56 So you're telling me because I'm an old white man 18:00 with white hair. 18:02 Well, not white hair, sort of just a tinge of gray. 18:06 Because I'm a white person I'm a racist? 18:08 No, that's nonsense. 18:11 Racism is not a matter of the skin. 18:15 Racism is a matter of the heart. 18:19 There are white people who are racist. 18:21 We know this. 18:23 Yeah, we've had a problem with white racism. 18:25 But if you go to Africa, 18:27 you'll find this black racism. 18:30 What are you gonna do with Rwanda, 18:33 where black people kill more than a million 18:35 other black people? 18:37 Why? 18:38 Because they belong to a different tribe. 18:41 Now that's something most people 18:42 never hear anything about. 18:44 I say this, racism doesn't start with the color 18:48 of the skin, it starts with the condition 18:50 of the depraved human heart, and we need to realize. 18:54 Do I believe that black lives matter? 18:56 Of course, I believe it. 18:59 Black lives do matter. 19:01 All lives matter. 19:03 Colored lives matter. 19:06 Asian lives matter. 19:08 English lives matter. 19:10 African lives matter. 19:11 Hey, let's follow the scriptures in this one. 19:15 I'm gonna come over here to 19:17 Genesis 1:27. 19:22 This is the answer to racism. 19:26 You listening? 19:29 "So God created man in His own image, 19:33 in the image of God, He created him, 19:36 male and female He created them." 19:40 Hey, you still listening? 19:42 I believe that every person is made in the image of God. 19:45 I believe that the black person is made in the image of God. 19:48 He is a child of God. 19:51 Christ died for him. 19:54 I believe that Asian people 19:55 who look a little different to me 19:57 are made in the image of God. 19:58 God is a big God. 20:01 He's got a big family. 20:03 I believe that white people, and brown people, 20:06 and colored people, and black people, 20:09 and Chinese people, 20:11 gone, are children of God. 20:15 Let this sink down into your ears. 20:17 Racism is not so much the problem with the skin. 20:22 It's the problem with the heart. 20:24 The great Martin Luther King, 20:25 the great preacher of righteousness 20:29 and racial equality said 20:33 he hoped the day would come 20:34 when people were going to be judged, 20:36 not by the pigmentation or the color of their skin, 20:40 but by the content of their character. 20:43 We've gotten away from that. 20:44 I think Martin Luther would be ashamed of many people 20:47 today who invoke his name. 20:52 We get away from racism 20:54 when we see in every person a child of God, 20:57 whether he is black brown, or I don't care 21:01 what it is because God made us all. 21:04 He is our heavenly Father and Jesus died for us. 21:10 I believe all lives matter. 21:16 Tom from Riverside is feeling depressed and beat up. 21:21 Have you a word from the Lord for him? 21:26 Well, I guess on occasions, 21:28 we all feel depressed and beat up. 21:32 This is a tough world. 21:35 It's not getting any better. 21:38 You know, I get up, I read my Bible 21:42 and I talk to God in prayer. 21:43 And then, maybe it's not a good idea. 21:47 I catch up on the news. 21:50 And so sometimes I look a little bit at the news 21:54 to see what's going on around the world. 21:56 I don't wanna be so heavenly minded 21:59 that I'm of no earthly use. 22:02 And so I turn on a little bit of television, 22:04 I may get CNN or Fox and you know, 22:07 ad nauseum, it goes on. 22:12 If you don't have God in your life, 22:14 you're going to be depressed. 22:16 You look at the situation in China, 22:19 the situation in Taiwan, 22:22 the situation in India, 22:25 which is having a meltdown 22:27 because of this awful pandemic. 22:32 We think of the round 600,000 22:35 of our brothers and our sisters who died in America. 22:40 Goodness. 22:42 We go to church and we sing the hymn, 22:44 this is my Father's world. 22:45 Hey, often doesn't seem to be like that. 22:49 But listen to me, 22:52 we are not to judge according to appearances, 22:55 Jesus said. 22:57 Jesus said, don't judge according to appearances. 23:00 It's not what it appears to be. 23:04 In spite of appearances, 23:06 there is far more good in the world 23:09 than there is evil because it is true, 23:13 this is my Father's world. 23:16 He is still in charge. 23:18 He hasn't walked off the throne and said, 23:20 hey, devil, take it over. 23:21 No, He's still in charge. 23:25 And He's working all things according to His will. 23:29 I want to be in the will of God. 23:31 I am so glad that I'm a Christian 23:33 that I believe in Christ. 23:38 I would suggest to you, if you're feeling down 23:40 and depressed to realize this, 23:42 you're special. 23:45 There's nobody like you. 23:47 Jesus died for you. 23:48 He would have died for you 23:50 if you'd been the only one lost soul. 23:52 You say, "I can't believe." Well, start to believe it. 23:55 You're made in the image of God. 23:56 Christ died for you. 23:59 He has a plan and a purpose for you. 24:01 Go get your Bible. Read Romans 8:28-39. 24:05 Let me say it again.
