00:22 I like healthy food that tastes so good
00:26 I like to eat good food
00:28 Whatcha say now?
00:30 I like to eat good food
00:33 I like to eat good food
00:37 Hi, and welcome.
00:38 We're so happy you could join us today
00:40 on Creative Cooking Programs.
00:43 My name's Taisha.
00:44 And my name is Jan. My name is Kimberly.
00:47 And we are...
00:48 The Holmes Sisters.
00:50 We're so happy that you could join us today
00:52 to talk about God's wonderful, creative, amazing food.
00:56 And what's so exciting about the creativity of God
00:58 is not only can we eat the wonderful food,
01:01 but we can...
01:03 Wear it on our face.
01:06 And we can juice it. That's right.
01:08 We can eat it, wear it, and juice it.
01:11 So we've a wonderful program in store for you today
01:14 to show you how you can eat the wonderful food,
01:17 wear the delicious food...
01:18 And then juice the delicious food.
01:21 So we're going to begin with
01:22 Kimmy's Vegan Sweet Potato Waffles.
01:24 Jan, can you read that for us?
02:05 For the topping, we have...
02:17 All right, now, that sounds delicious.
02:20 So now that we've read the instructions,
02:22 let's get started, Kim.
02:23 All right. Okay, ladies.
02:25 Ladies, ladies, ladies.
02:26 This is a very simple process.
02:28 Basically, when I'm at home,
02:30 I throw everything in the blender.
02:32 But we're going to do things a little slowly.
02:36 So let's start by chopping the sweet potato.
02:38 All right. Taisha, thank you so much.
02:41 And Jan, you can start the topping as well.
02:44 Okay, so I'll start the toppings.
02:45 So our topping, we toast,
02:49 and this is pre-toasted already,
02:52 and we are going to put two cups...
02:56 No, we're not putting that in there.
02:57 We're going to put two cups of maple syrup in the pot.
02:59 Follow instructions, Jan. I'm trying.
03:01 Yes, yes, yes, Jan, thank you.
03:03 All right.
03:05 Okay.
03:07 And then we are going to put the cranberries,
03:10 add the cranberries to the maple syrup.
03:12 Add that in there.
03:13 And we're just going to allow that to marinate slowly
03:16 while we are continuing on with the rest of our recipe.
03:21 Is this good? Yes, this is great.
03:23 Thank you, Taisha, for chopping.
03:24 And we're going to put this here.
03:26 Let's just put this right here.
03:27 And you can add the sweet potatoes
03:30 to the blender.
03:31 And a wonderful thing about sweet potato
03:33 is it's such a wonderful, great food,
03:35 it's high in beta-carotene,
03:37 it's high in just nutritious values
03:40 for your skin, it fights infections,
03:43 and studies have shown that
03:45 if you eat one whole sweet potato a day,
03:47 you would not lack in vitamins and properties of minerals
03:50 that the body needs
03:51 'cause this carrot is such a wonderful,
03:53 creative, amazing whole food.
03:55 So when we eat, we like to eat in colors as well.
03:58 That's right.
03:59 So now we're going to add our millet.
04:02 Millet is a wonderful grain.
04:05 In Europe and many places in pre-historic times,
04:08 millet was used as food for animals.
04:12 The horses...
04:13 To make them strong I guess. Yes, to make them strong.
04:15 And now we are finding that millet
04:17 is a very good source of nutrition,
04:20 it's a wonderful cereal,
04:21 a wonderful alternative to oatmeal,
04:26 which is a porridge or cereal that many of us eat every day.
04:30 It's great to reduce cholesterol as well.
04:32 And it's also a great starch.
04:34 It digests very slowly for those of us...
04:36 Well, and it increases our energy.
04:38 Also, for those who have digestive issues,
04:41 it's gluten free.
04:42 So there's a whole, you know, lot of people
04:44 who cannot digest certain foods
04:46 and they have to eat without gluten,
04:48 millet is such a wonderful food.
04:50 And you can use it for breads
04:51 and you can use it in smoothies.
04:53 Other ways. You can use it in waffles.
04:55 Which we're going to show you now.
04:57 So what is that?
04:58 This is coconut oil. Coconut oil.
05:00 We're adding our coconut oil here.
05:01 All right.
05:03 So the great thing about this waffle as well
05:05 is you just kind of throw everything in there,
05:06 you know, you don't have to go in...
05:08 The only thing you're really chopping
05:09 are the potatoes, sweet potatoes.
05:11 So baking soda.
05:13 We're just going to kind of throw everything in,
05:14 your baking soda.
05:15 Our vanilla extract.
05:17 Himalayan sea salt.
05:19 Ginger.
05:21 Nutmeg.
05:22 And just a little bit of syrup, maple syrup particularly.
05:27 No. Did you put the vanilla there?
05:29 Okay, so let's add our milk. Okay.
05:32 And then we'll blend it and fold our flour in.
05:36 So do we fold the flour in after it starts blending in
05:39 or do we put it all in together, Kim?
05:41 Well, we can, but we're going to...
05:44 It's easier for it to blend
05:46 without the flour, and then we'll add...
05:47 And then we'll kind of fold it in?
05:48 Yes. Okay, here we go.
05:50 One, two, three.
05:59 Okay. That looks so good.
06:01 It looks like I can drink it right now.
06:02 Look at this color, it's a beautiful orange.
06:05 And we love color and God loves color.
06:08 When we think about the fruits and vegetables that He's made,
06:10 it's the rainbow.
06:13 As well as the rainbow,
06:14 the beautiful flowers that He's made,
06:16 all the creative flowers and creative foods,
06:19 and we like to look at our food also as wonderful gems.
06:23 You know, how you have the gems, diamonds, and rubies,
06:27 and opals, we like to look at our food like that as well.
06:30 We have the rubies, which are the red foods,
06:33 the red foods are strawberries...
06:35 Tomatoes. Cherries, tomatoes.
06:37 Red pepper.
06:39 And those are the anti-inflammatory foods.
06:40 That's right, that's right. Another gem, what, blue opals?
06:44 Blueberries, gooseberries,
06:46 and those are high in antioxidants.
06:48 So, ladies, we're just going to blend this.
06:50 Okay.
06:55 Move this around a little bit. Mix it around.
06:56 Yeah, there you go. Okay.
06:58 So how is that coming, Jan? Now this is simmering along.
07:00 It's coming along. We need to stir that, Kim?
07:02 Or does it just kind of simmer to make...
07:05 Just stir it lightly, but...
07:06 Yeah, we just need it to...
07:07 Let it simmer. Oh, it smells so good.
07:09 Cranberries mixed with the maple syrup.
07:12 I'll just blend it one more time and then...
07:22 Okay, so let's put it in the bowl and begin.
07:28 Jan, just take that.
07:32 Wow! Oh, that looks delicious!
07:34 Yes, it does.
07:36 It smells good also.
07:38 All right.
07:40 Thank you, Taisha.
07:44 So we have our waffle iron nice and hot.
07:46 So let's move this blender over there.
07:48 Just hand me a towel quickly.
07:50 Thank you.
07:52 Oh, it's nice.
07:54 Oh, be careful, you'll burn yourself here.
07:58 Okay.
07:59 All right. Here we go.
08:02 Okay.
08:06 Okay, so our waffle maker is nice and hot.
08:10 We'll just open it and spray it.
08:12 Here, I got the spray. Lightly.
08:13 Be careful.
08:15 All right, here we go. Okay.
08:19 And we're taking just about half a cup
08:22 of this wonderful waffle mix
08:24 and we're spooning it onto the grill.
08:27 Hear the sizzle. Okay.
08:29 It smells good.
08:30 Just wait a few minutes.
08:32 So, Kim, when do we add the toasted pecans to our top?
08:36 Is that at the last minute or...
08:38 This is part of the last process.
08:41 So after we have our waffle in front of us on the plate,
08:44 we just sprinkle a dash of pecans
08:46 and then we dribble the syrup with the cranberries on it.
08:49 And we have a delicious, delicious, delicious...
08:55 Let's add some of the syrup to this
08:57 so they can see what this will look at the end.
08:59 So how long does this take to simmer down
09:02 before it comes really nice?
09:03 Just pull that here, Jan, so we could see that,
09:05 and get a spoon so we can stir it up
09:08 so we can see the consistency.
09:09 So you let it simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
09:11 And now it's nice and thick.
09:14 And the cranberries have marinated...
09:16 Can we drizzle that on? Yes, we can.
09:18 Into the maple syrup, and it's thickened,
09:21 and just smoothen it on there, dribble it, yeah.
09:25 Smells amazing.
09:28 That looks good, smells good. All right.
09:31 Okay.
09:33 So can we try it? All right.
09:34 Yes, we can.
09:36 Are you ready to try it?
09:39 And I guess we'll sprinkle...
09:42 That's when we sprinkle the pecans.
09:43 Yeah.
09:45 All right, Jan, that's your piece.
09:48 So we're just going to use our fingers right now,
09:50 finger licking good, okay.
09:53 All right, here we go. Let's go together.
09:57 All right.
10:00 That's delicious.
10:02 Yum. Really delicious.
10:04 Mmm, good.
10:06 Delicious.
10:08 So, folks, this is a great fusion
10:11 of what we would call dessert and breakfast.
10:15 Now we're moving on to our Sweet Potato Pie.
10:20 The ingredients are, for the filling...
10:40 That sounds amazing. It sure does.
10:42 Are you ready? Let's get started. Yes, ma'am.
10:43 Okay. Let's go.
10:45 Jan, please start peeling the potatoes.
10:47 Okay. Sweet potatoes.
10:49 I have the hardest job, I'll be busy over here peeling.
10:51 And as you can see, we baked the sweet potatoes
10:53 and the natural juices are oozing out
10:56 of the sweet potato, which is wonderful.
10:59 I feel left out, I can help.
11:05 The sweet potatoes, they'll bake in an oven
11:07 for about 40 minutes.
11:09 And you can boil it as well, but we prefer to bake them.
11:14 Sweet potato pie is a very well loved dessert in our family.
11:19 Grandma Larabelle, she would always make
11:21 sweet potato pie on Sunday.
11:23 Yeah. We go over for a Sunday dinner.
11:25 Papi would always take the family
11:27 over for Sunday dinner at Grandma Larabelle's home,
11:31 and we would have cake.
11:33 But it's with a twist, it's with a twist.
11:34 Sweet potato pie.
11:36 And sweet potato pie, so we're doing
11:40 the vegan version of Grandma Larabelle's
11:42 sweet potato pie.
11:44 All right, so we've it in the blender.
11:45 Okay, so...
11:47 And what's great about this is, you know, we like no fuss.
11:50 Very wonderful, quick, and easy.
11:52 So once again,
11:54 we're throwing it all in the blender.
11:55 Okay.
11:57 So we have our sweet potato.
11:59 Our sweet potatoes are in the blender
12:00 and we're going to add the syrup, maple syrup.
12:04 Maple syrup is a wonderful natural sweetener.
12:07 Let's get all of the syrup.
12:08 Yes, get it all, please do.
12:10 Our Vanilla extract.
12:12 Moving along, Jan, you can help her with that.
12:13 Okay.
12:15 Next, we're going to pour in our coconut, coconut oil.
12:21 That coconut smells so good. Organic coconut.
12:27 Vegan cream cheese. Okay.
12:33 And finally, this is the little secret,
12:37 lemon extract.
12:39 It takes the sweet potato pie to the next level.
12:43 I can't wait for you to try it.
12:44 Okay, so now we're going to blend it.
12:47 What about our milk?
12:49 We're going to blend it with our milk.
12:52 All right.
12:54 Pour the milk now. Oops.
12:55 All right, I'm so excited, I'm spilling it all.
12:58 Calm down, Taisha, calm down.
13:01 Here we go.
13:03 Okay, blend.
13:11 Once again, we have the beautiful, wonderful color.
13:14 And, you know, there's a little funny story,
13:16 beta carotene, foods high in beta carotene,
13:19 you see how you get that beautiful orange color?
13:23 Well, there's a little story we have if we have time.
13:27 Kimmy, you can blend it. I'll tell you after.
13:48 Stir it once more.
13:53 So we're mixing it.
13:56 And you can add a little bit of milk as needed
13:59 so that the consistency is thick enough
14:04 yet not too liquid-y so that it can blend well,
14:07 and then we can pour it into the pie shell.
14:09 So we'll do it one last time and then go.
14:20 Okay, here we go. All right.
14:22 Okay, so we'll pour it into the shell.
14:25 And this is a pre-baked shell pie crust.
14:29 So, Taisha, what was that story that you told us,
14:31 really quickly?
14:32 Well, actually, you know,
14:34 another food high in beta carotene, the carrot.
14:37 And the story that our mom tells us
14:40 when she was pregnant with Jan here,
14:42 my wonderful dear sweet little sister,
14:45 she had fibroids, and the doctor said to her,
14:48 you know, "We're either going
14:49 to have to take the fibroids out
14:51 or it's your life and the baby."
14:53 So my mom was just like, "You're not taking my baby,
14:56 and we're going to trust God to deal with these fibroids."
14:59 She spoke to a doctor, an alternative doctor,
15:03 who told about the carrots.
15:04 Make a long story short, she juiced carrots every day,
15:08 every day until the end of her pregnancy.
15:10 And when Jan was born, Jan came out...
15:12 They said that I was orange.
15:14 So Jan was known as the little carrot baby.
15:16 I was called carrot baby.
15:17 They did a segment in the hospital on her,
15:19 and she was orange because of the pigmentation
15:21 of all the carrots that my mom drank.
15:23 And thank God the fibroid shrunk.
15:25 So that's another little tidbit about how amazing
15:28 and awesome God's creative food is
15:30 to our bodies and what it does.
15:31 That's right. Here we go.
15:33 Okay, so praise the Lord, this is how our pie would look.
15:38 And then we put it in the oven for how long?
15:40 For about 30 minutes. Okay, on a pre-heated oven for?
15:44 Three-seventy-five.
15:45 All right, we're going to pop it in the oven.
15:49 All right.
15:51 Thank God for instant TV land, we have one right here.
15:56 And this is the end result of our sweet potato pie.
16:00 It's delicious, it's...
16:01 Mmm, good. Good.
16:03 And you can top that with
16:04 your favorite vegan ice cream on the side.
16:08 Or whatever you like. Or whipped cream.
16:09 And it would just go together very deliciously.
16:11 And you can eat it cold, you can eat it warm,
16:15 and it's all good.
16:17 All right.
16:18 So we're going to move to our next segment of Juice It.
16:22 Juice It.
16:30 You know, every morning, I like to start my day
16:33 with a smoothie, a delicious smoothie.
16:35 I play around with it every day,
16:37 put different things in.
16:39 But it gives me so much energy to start my day.
16:41 Yes, yes.
16:42 So we're going to share with you a smoothie,
16:45 Blueberry Almond Blast.
16:47 That sounds delicious.
16:48 The ingredients are...
17:02 Okay, well, let's get this going really quickly.
17:04 Let's put in our banana. All right.
17:06 Bananas are high in potassium. We have some milk.
17:09 Is the banana frozen?
17:11 Yes, the banana is frozen. It cools off the smoothie.
17:15 Throw some blueberries. Throw some blueberries.
17:17 I might splash you. Oops.
17:19 Okay. Here we go.
17:21 Some coconut oil and a little almond butter,
17:25 and I think we have water right in there.
17:27 Let's get the whisked up.
17:29 All right, so the amazing thing of God's creative, wonderful,
17:33 amazing, delicious food is that we can not only eat it
17:36 but we can also juice it.
17:38 We can drink it, juice it. And it does the body good.
17:40 Yeah, right. Okay.
17:42 This smoothie is power packed with antioxidants, blueberries,
17:46 are high in antioxidants
17:48 which protects the cells from oxidation.
17:51 And Jan, go ahead. Okay.
17:52 Whisk that up, so we can...
17:57 Oh, look at that color.
18:19 Okay, so we give it about a minute or two.
18:22 That looks amazing.
18:23 And then just like that...
18:28 Blueberry almond blast. Oh, how delicious!
18:32 What a way to start your day.
18:33 Well, you know what,
18:34 the blessing about being sisters,
18:36 we can dig in together.
18:38 Here we go. Let's go.
18:40 Wait, I want the blue one. Hold on a minute.
18:41 Okay, well, I'll take pink.
18:42 Okay, let's go. All right.
18:44 Mmm. Mmm.
18:47 That's good. That's good.
18:50 Good. That was delicious.
18:51 Mercy. Delicious.
18:53 Every morning, you can try that.
18:55 It is so good and you will have so much energy for the day.
18:58 And it can also sometimes replace a meal.
19:01 Enjoy. It's good. Try it at home.
19:03 All right, so now that takes us to our wear it.
19:13 All right, now that we've shown you
19:16 how to eat it and...
19:18 Juice it.
19:19 We're going to show you, how to...
19:21 Wear it. All right.
19:23 So today, we have molasses, okay?
19:27 So molasses is a wonderful sweetener
19:29 that we can use, it's natural.
19:31 We used to use it as a sweetener in oatmeal
19:35 or we drizzle it on our biscuits or waffles.
19:37 Waffles or biscuits.
19:40 And, you know, molasses has so many,
19:43 so many valuable properties.
19:44 So first, we're going to start with what we need to begin
19:48 our wear it, molasses mask, 1 to 2 tablespoons of molasses,
19:53 you apply it to a clean face, and then you let it air dry,
19:58 and then you wash it with warm water
20:01 after wearing it for 20 minutes
20:02 or if you want to wear it to bed
20:04 once it's dry, that's fine.
20:06 So let's get started.
20:07 Our wear it model for today is none other than
20:11 the beautiful Kimmy Kim.
20:15 All right, so we're going to take a clip, Jan,
20:18 and we're going to pull her hair back.
20:19 Okay.
20:21 And what you can do is
20:22 we can put it around your T-area.
20:25 Okay, you can go all the way up to your hairline, but today,
20:27 we're going to do the T-area, okay?
20:30 Now some wonderful things about molasses.
20:32 Molasses is high in iron,
20:36 high in magnesium, high in calcium.
20:40 Molasses has been used for people
20:42 who are iron deficient, you ingest it,
20:46 and it helps, you know, build the iron in your body.
20:48 And iron is very important in your body
20:51 because it helps with your blood, okay?
20:53 And blood is important for life, all right?
20:56 So another thing that it's also good for,
20:58 it's been used in the olden days for PMS,
21:01 premenstrual syndrome because it's an anti-clotter
21:04 and it helps the blood to flow a lot easier.
21:07 So what we're going to do today,
21:08 it's already nice and emulsified and smooth.
21:11 We're going to take our little brush, and first,
21:15 we're going to, we don't want to mess up
21:17 your beautiful clothes.
21:18 That's right. Thank you, ladies.
21:21 We wouldn't want to do that, so...
21:22 We'll cover her up. Cover her up.
21:27 And you can do this in the morning,
21:31 you can do this in the night, or you can do it
21:33 just for a quick pick me up for your face.
21:36 What it's good for also on your face to wear it,
21:39 it's great for acne.
21:40 Okay, so once you smooth it onto your face,
21:43 you'll notice that your face will become nice and smooth.
21:47 And, Jan, you can kind of dip in there.
21:50 Okay. All right, here we go.
21:53 All right, Kim, you ready? I am.
21:54 All right.
21:56 So we're just going to brush it on there.
22:00 It can kind of get messy,
22:02 so might want to cover yourself up.
22:03 It's very messy.
22:04 Do it over your sink, all right.
22:07 And you just kind of smooth it on.
22:09 Smooth it like so.
22:13 Molasses tightens the skin, for those of us
22:17 who are conscious of wrinkles and...
22:19 And, you know, this is not only good for women,
22:21 this is also good for men.
22:23 You know, our dad, he was very much into skincare.
22:26 A lot of times, we would just see him
22:29 and he would have either like egg wash on his face
22:32 or sometimes he would have a little molasses on his face.
22:35 And, you know, we like to do this,
22:37 Kim is the mask queen.
22:38 She, I mean, every morning Kim has a mask on her face.
22:41 That's right.
22:43 So she is it today. Yes.
22:45 A mask keeps you pretty and young.
22:49 It keeps you looking 25.
22:52 So we're just going to kind of go around like that.
22:55 And then we're going to smooth it,
22:57 smooth it on through.
22:58 And you don't want to cake it on too much
23:00 because you want it to dry it nice and easy.
23:03 And you can apply it with your hands
23:05 if you'd like, you know.
23:06 At home, you can apply it with your hands
23:07 or you can apply it with gloves if you don't want to get messy.
23:10 And you just put it like so. And there you have it.
23:15 Okay, smile for the camera.
23:17 Voila.
23:19 You are beautiful. You are gorgeous.
23:23 So we are wearing molasses today.
23:26 And as you can see, it will take time to dry,
23:32 and we will come back later, and you will see the results.
23:35 But this is something you can do a few times a week,
23:39 two to three times a week.
23:40 And like it was shared, it tightens your skin,
23:44 it's great for acne or skin.
23:47 Eczema, any issues with dry skin,
23:50 you can take the molasses and you can put it on.
23:53 Like we said, it can be something that's worn overnight
23:56 or something for about 10 minutes.
23:57 And each time you place it on because it's a food,
24:00 the skin also is a vital organ of our body,
24:03 it's actually the biggest organ of our body.
24:05 Yes. We have to treat our skin well.
24:08 You know, our skin, so the whole body, you know,
24:10 maybe a whole body mask.
24:11 Well, they have mud mask
24:13 and all type of different things.
24:15 And this is what we love about God's creative foods
24:17 and how vast and diverse
24:20 and all the things that can be done with foods.
24:23 You know, when we ingest it, when we wear it, and...
24:27 And when we juice it.
24:29 And even just to beautify our tables
24:30 or there are so many things that we can do with food.
24:33 And this here, this mask, Kim, you look absolutely wonderful.
24:37 Gorgeous.
24:38 I think that you could...
24:40 So how will we take this mask off?
24:41 Do you just wipe it off or...
24:44 Wash it off.
24:45 You can wash it off or you can take a warm towel
24:48 and just wipe down.
24:51 And then you'd apply any moisturizer
24:53 that you have for the day.
24:55 And then you can go about your way.
24:57 Viola! There you have it.
24:59 After you'll have...
25:01 You don't see me today, but you'll have glowing skin,
25:04 you'll have a clean palate, a very energized,
25:08 revived look after this process is over.
25:12 So, ladies and gentlemen, family, let's eat it,
25:16 let's wear it, and let's juice it.
25:21 All right, ladies, so we're happy

25:56 our delicious blueberry almond smoothie,
25:59 really great way to start your day
26:02 with a powerhouse breakfast smoothie.
26:05 And we have these blueberries.
26:07 They fit in the palm of my hand,
26:09 but they have so much power in them,
26:13 antioxidants that is so good for your body.
26:14 Power-packed superfood.
26:16 A great superfood. That's right.
26:18 And we also had almonds in our smoothie.
26:21 And when put the two together, oh, boy,
26:23 the proteins that these almonds will give you...
26:25 And the Calcium.
26:27 What a great way to start your day!
26:28 We also have a banana inside, so we have potassium.
26:32 I mean, this smoothie will get you going,
26:35 and then we continued on with our waffle.
26:38 Yes, our waffle also had a great superfood
26:41 which is a tuber, and that tuber
26:45 is known as a sweet potato.
26:47 You have wonderful cranberries to top it off
26:51 with some delicious roasted pecans.
26:54 I mean, how much better
26:56 can it get for a morning breakfast?
26:57 I don't think it can get any better.
26:59 I mean, you usually start with breakfast, right?
27:00 But that sounds like dessert to me.
27:02 Mmm, yes, it does.
27:03 And how about this beautiful sweet potato pie
27:05 you made here, Kim?
27:06 Oh, man, that was Grandma Larabelle's
27:08 Sunday special.
27:10 What a treat we had every Sunday growing up,
27:12 eating Grandma Larabelle's sweet potato pie.
27:15 But you can top it off with some warm vegan ice cream
27:20 or some...
27:22 Cashew drizzle on top and cashew cream.
27:25 Yes, yes.
27:26 So we thank you for joining us today.
27:27 We had a wonderful time sharing with you...
27:29 A wonderful time.
