Now we love creative cooking. 00:57 It's using plant-based nutrition 01:01 to transform our lives. 01:04 We all can benefit from adding more veggies, 01:08 more fruits, more nuts, and grains to our diet. 01:12 That's right. 01:14 That's true. That's right. 01:15 This is so exciting 01:16 because plant-based nutrition is three things. 01:20 Simple... 01:21 One. 01:23 Practical... 01:24 Two. And healthy. 01:25 Three. There you go. 01:27 So, ladies, we are going to begin... 01:32 But before we begin, let's talk a little bit about 01:36 why we're wearing these shirts. 01:37 Oh, okay. 01:38 Do you see... 01:40 What does yours say? 01:41 Sister one. 01:42 I'm sister two. I'm sister number three. 01:44 Let's get in order. 01:45 Here we go. It makes it less confusing. 01:49 Yeah, so why are we wearing these shirts, Kim? 01:51 Well, because we are what? 01:55 We're blood sisters. Ha, ha. 01:57 Lots of people usually they have been writing in, 01:59 emailing, texting, 02:01 but just wondering that people ask, 02:03 "Are you guys really sisters? 02:05 Are you twins? 02:06 Are you triplets or are you cousins?" 02:10 Well, we're not triplets. 02:12 And we're not twins... 02:14 And we're not cousins. 02:15 We are sisters. 02:18 We're actually The Holmes Sisters. 02:20 Elder Johnny and Janet Holmes are our parents. 02:23 We share the same parental genes. 02:25 Yes, we do. Thank God. 02:27 So I'm sister number one. 02:28 I'm sister number two. 02:30 I'm sister number three. 02:31 Okay, ladies, now that we've gotten that out of the way, 02:34 let's get to our pizza making. 02:37 Yes. All right. 02:39 Kimy's rich, flavorful, vegan, kale pesto sauce pizza. 02:44 Oh, yes. Tasty and gourmet. 02:46 Tasty, and exciting, very gourmet. 02:48 That is gourmet, you know, particularly, 02:49 I like that gourmet, yeah. 02:52 So, Janeth, will you read the recipe for us? 03:39 Ooh. That sounds spicy. 03:42 Spicy and gourmet. And gourmet. 03:43 Very delicious, just like Kim likes. 03:45 So, let's get started. 03:48 All right, so what do you want us to do? 03:49 So Jane, first I would like you to take our kale 03:52 and throw it in the pot... 03:54 All right. 03:55 Along with the onion... 03:56 And the water. 03:58 And you're going to... 03:59 Put the kale. Wow. 04:01 Put it on there, and it will steam down a little bit. 04:05 And, Taisha, you can start chopping up the garlic. 04:07 Okay. 04:08 And you want me to just turn that on? 04:10 Please turn it on, of course, so that it can cook. 04:13 So it doesn't matter if we like not chopped the onions 04:15 or can we just throw in a whole onion? 04:18 It's in there whole 04:19 because we're just going to blend it all. 04:21 All right. So it doesn't matter. 04:22 Okay, out of the way. 04:25 I'm peeling the garlic. 04:27 Okay, so in the meantime, 04:30 I'll take the sour cream 04:33 and put it into the blender. 04:37 Now this dish is wonderful. 04:42 Kale pesto can be used cold or hot 04:48 and we can use it cold over crackers, 04:52 drizzle it over your salad, and you can use it hot today 04:57 like we're doing over a pizza or over pasta... 05:03 Which is very delicious and quick meal. 05:04 That's delicious, that is. 05:06 Let's add our olive oil here. 05:08 Okay. 05:10 Are you done with the garlic, Taisha? 05:11 That's fine, you have to chop it up, 05:13 just not that much, 05:14 just big chunks and we'll throw that in here. 05:15 Just throw in the basil. 05:17 Like big chunks. 05:18 That smell, the basil smells good. 05:20 We're using Himalayan sea salt. 05:23 With all the great wonderful minerals our body needs. 05:27 We're using cheese. 05:28 This right here is actually Daiya cheese 05:30 but you can also use parmesan cheese, 05:33 some red pepper and that's optional, 05:36 here's a dash. 05:38 So Daiya cheese is like a vegan? 05:39 Daiya cheese is a vegan 05:41 alternative to the real cheese that... 05:43 Real mozzarella? 05:44 The real mozzarella that they sell in the store. 05:47 So Jane, how's that going? 05:50 Yes, we're steaming over here. 05:52 You ready for it? 05:53 Just stir it a bit and bring it on over. 05:56 Just stir it up. Taisha stay out of my pot. 05:57 I'm just getting excited 'cause I want to get this, 06:00 I want to taste this pesto. 06:01 I love pesto. 06:04 And usually people make pesto with what, like pine nuts 06:07 because we're using walnuts today, right? 06:08 We're using walnuts, right. 06:10 So walnuts are rich in omegas. 06:14 Spice and hot. 06:17 Be careful, you can use the water. 06:18 All right. 06:21 But you can use... 06:22 You can use pine nuts 06:24 to make a great pesto as well or you can... 06:26 Macadamia nuts. 06:28 Macadamia nuts? Oh, that will be a rich pesto. 06:29 Hot pot, hot pot. 06:30 All right, so this is a very rich sauce 06:34 and is very quick and easy to make. 06:37 And we're just adding our last bit of walnuts. 06:43 Umm. That looks beautiful. 06:45 Here we go, let's whiz. Smells delightful. 06:59 Stir this up a little bit more. 07:01 Get all of it. 07:05 Okay, one last time. 07:15 All right. Let's go. 07:17 So what do we do with that now? 07:20 We'll just put some in this bowl right here. 07:25 Ah, look at that smell. That smells delicious. 07:28 Can you smell the basil? 07:30 Umm. Fresh basil, okay. With the walnuts. 07:33 Let's bring our pizza. 07:34 All right. 07:36 Let's move it to a side. Tai, over here the dough. 07:42 And we're going to create the base. 07:44 You can make your pizza crust 07:47 or you can use the multigrain crust. 07:51 What's great about this also is you can put it on pita, 07:56 you can put it on flat bread, you can, you know, 07:58 make it on any type of dough that you would like to... 08:02 Can you pass me that spoon over there please? 08:05 Okay. Thank you. 08:06 Here we go. Okay. 08:08 So let's spoon this. 08:11 Spoon it on. 08:15 Looks like a flat bread but it's... 08:18 So there's so many wonderful things 08:20 you can do with kale you know. 08:23 Kale is such a great super green superfood. 08:28 So we're spooning it on 08:30 and then we're going to add some tomatoes. 08:32 All right. 08:34 You want me to cut whole or sliced. 08:36 Just slice it really quick. 08:38 Gives this some color. Yeah. 08:42 And just place them. I'll help you out. 08:43 Okay. 08:45 And you could decorate it with anything you like, 08:46 like put maybe red peppers, yellow peppers... 08:49 Like a topping, whatever toppings. 08:50 Yeah, any type of topping that you like. 08:53 Pineapples, you can get creative with your pizzas. 08:56 Some olives. 08:57 Olives, mushrooms, red onions, 09:01 go down the whole gamut of a rainbow. 09:03 But we're keeping it simple today 09:05 and just having red toppings for our pizza. 09:09 Okay. 09:10 And then we'll just pop into the oven at 375 degrees. 09:15 We'll put it on for about 10 to 15 minutes max. 09:17 I'll put it in the oven. 09:20 Jane, we'll have it if you just pass the pasta, 09:21 Jane, please? 09:23 Okay. 09:25 Now here's our pasta. 09:27 And everyone knows how to cook pasta. 09:29 We just added a dash of parsley there. 09:31 Now we're going to drizzle our pesto. 09:38 Kale pesto sauce over this delicious pasta. 09:42 Yes, that's enough. 09:43 Just another creative way that you can make your, 09:46 you know, pesto nice and delightful to eat. 09:50 All right, are we going to try this? 09:51 I'll give you a fork. We gonna try this. 09:52 All right. Mix it around a little bit. 09:55 Ooh, it's nice and creamy. 09:57 All right. Smells so good. 09:59 All right, right, don't fight over food. 10:02 There is plenty for everyone. Okay. 10:04 Here we are. 10:06 Twirl my fork. 10:07 All right. Here we go. 10:12 Wait for me. 10:14 Okay. 10:19 It is so messy, but it's so good. 10:23 And this was a whole grain pasta. 10:25 It's spelt, millet and amaranth. 10:30 Three grains that are gluten free 10:32 and it's a whole food, 10:34 so you can put it on any type of pasta 10:35 like multigrain, rice pasta. 10:38 And the store is very easy, 10:40 so you can just put it in an airtight container 10:43 and store it in the fridge for a few days. 10:45 Right. And just use it. 10:46 You can put it over potatoes, maybe a nice hot baked potato. 10:49 This is a very popular dish 10:51 when we have parties and the kids love this. 10:54 It's very easy to cook. 10:55 Something to whiz up at the last minute, 10:57 at the end of the day. 10:58 So there you have it. 11:00 Our kale pesto sauce 11:02 and we've used it over our pasta 11:05 and we've used it to create a pizza. 11:07 What can you use it to create? 11:09 Why don't you write in and let us know. 11:11 So now that we are eating it, it's time to juice it. 11:22 It's time to juice it. 11:25 All right, so what are we doing today, Jane? 11:27 What juice do we have? 11:29 We're making a kale smoothie. 11:31 And the kale smoothie is very good for us 11:34 because it's another green vegetable and kale is... 11:38 You know, kale is my favorite vegetable. 11:40 Mine too. Very easy to grow. 11:42 I grow kale in my garden and kale will grow 11:45 all the way up through the winter. 11:47 So it isn't seasonal. 11:48 You can have kale in the winter, 11:50 the summer, the spring, I really, really love kale. 11:52 It's a very hardy green. It's a hardy vegetable. 11:55 So I really like kale very much. 11:57 Yeah, they are long lasting like the energizer batter. 12:00 Yeah, and there is a lot of nutrients in kale, 12:04 so we're going to throw it in our smoothie today 12:06 to get that green power... 12:07 That's right. Along with our blueberries. 12:09 Wow, so we have blueberries. 12:10 But before we do that, ladies, 12:12 let's read the ingredients for our smoothie. 12:14 Let's read the ingredients. That's right. 12:15 Kim, go ahead, read the ingredients. 12:16 Okay, for our kale smoothie, we have: 12:36 Sounds good. Yes, it does. 12:38 Okay, let's get our green smoothie. 12:40 That's right. 12:41 Ladies, did you know that kale... 12:42 First we gonna pour water in our liquid... 12:44 Kale is considered the queen of greens. 12:47 Oh, really? Do you guys know that? 12:49 The queen of greens. Yes, it is. 12:51 It's a mean green. 12:54 But a queen can't be mean. 12:56 That's right. 12:58 Oh, Tai, oh, Tai. 13:02 Also the blueberries are power-packed. 13:04 Of course, we know they're high in antioxidants, right. 13:08 Anything blue that can stain, 13:10 you know, you have the gooseberries, the... 13:12 The red berry, raspberry... 13:15 Blackberries and all... 13:17 Yeah, it's really good for you, they are high in antioxidants. 13:18 So let's give it a whiz. 13:20 That's right, let's blend it up. 13:21 Here we are. 13:44 So this smoothie is a powerful... 13:47 Look at the color, nice and blue. 13:49 Yeah, it's nice rich kind of like... 13:51 The blueberries passes the color, takes over. 13:54 Oh, I smell these fresh blueberries. 13:56 Really. 13:57 Now this is just a fun fact. 14:01 Recent studies have shown 14:03 that in the African-American community, 14:06 when we digest or ingest 14:09 a high intake of the superfood kale, 14:12 we minimize the risk for glaucoma. 14:15 Wow. 14:16 Glaucoma is a very wide or prevalent... 14:18 Yeah. 14:20 It's a degenerative disease of the eyes 14:21 that you get on the... 14:23 Like the end stage of diabetes. 14:25 Diabetes. Yeah. 14:27 So you're telling me, wow, 14:28 it minimizes my risk of getting diabetes? 14:31 Yes. Are you sure, girl? 14:32 That's right. 14:34 Kale is powerful. 14:35 Kale is the balm. 14:37 And that's why it's called the queen of the greens. 14:40 Wow, the queen of the greens. 14:42 And the blueberries is right up there. 14:44 That's right. 14:45 It's a porridge, that's right, the antioxidants. 14:47 That's right. 14:48 They work well and they synergize great together. 14:50 Together. Wow. 14:51 And it's also amazing because when I think about it, 14:53 and kale is high in protein, calcium, 14:59 I mean people will be surprised, 15:00 you're like when they get my one cup of milk, 15:02 you know, fill it up eight ounces, 15:04 but you can get it in your one serving of kale. 15:07 And it has to be more than one serving a day 15:10 or more than one serving a week. 15:12 So that means we're taking kale at least a few times to, 15:15 two to three times, right. 15:17 Have a kale smoothie every morning. 15:19 That's right, or have it in your salad. 15:21 Steamed kale. Kale salads. 15:24 You also can make kale chips. 15:25 That's right. 15:27 We have to do that one day. Kale chips. 15:28 Did you know that you can make kale chips, 15:31 just line the pan, you can dehydrate it 15:34 or you can turn the oven on low. 15:36 That's right. Let it bake nice and slowly. 15:37 Drizzle it with little nutritional yeast. 15:40 Little feta, whatever you like, 15:42 you know, just differing seasoning... 15:44 Little cheese. 15:45 Crisp it up. That's right. 15:47 We don't have kale chips now. 15:49 So now that we know 15:50 there are so many ways to have kale, 15:54 we can move on to our... 15:57 We're going to drink this up now. 15:58 We've going to move on drinking this. 15:59 Drinking of ourselves. All right, here's the health. 16:01 There you go. 16:06 Very potent. 16:07 You tasted the blueberries and the kale. 16:12 The nice thing about this the kale does not overpower. 16:15 Usually the greens will overpower... 16:16 Take over. 16:18 That's why I call the mean greens 16:19 because when they come in, 16:20 they're ready to take over whatever you have 16:22 when you're juicing them. 16:24 But, I mean, you still taste the blueberries in this. 16:25 I taste the blueberries. I taste it. 16:28 And you know what's great? 16:29 It's picking up my energy right now. 16:31 Look at my mustache. 16:33 Kale and blueberry mustache. 16:34 All right. 16:35 But I thought it was supposed to make you a queen, 16:37 it's the queen of greens, right? 16:39 Queens don't have mustaches. 16:41 This is energizing, it's powerful. 16:45 Take some kale everyday. 16:48 Kale is good for the body. 16:52 The kale balm. 16:53 So now that we've eaten it... 16:55 That's right. 16:56 We had nutritious, delicious kale pesto pizza. 17:02 I mean, you know, anyone from New York, 17:05 you know, when they see and they're like, 17:07 well, how's the pizza, 17:08 you know, especially in the Bronx, 17:10 you have the pizzas in all their avenues 17:11 or raise slice pizza. 17:13 Grab a slice. 17:14 That's right. Grab a slice. 17:15 You can make your own pizza from wherever you are 17:19 and just thinking in your head 17:20 and say, "It's good to be in New York, 17:22 well we could say, it feel like home, 17:24 you know, like, but you know, 17:26 I'm gonna get a little New York, 17:28 you know, my pizza, just be creative with this. 17:29 New York pizza, so we have kale pizza. 17:31 New York kale pesto pizza. 17:34 Now that we've eaten it and we've juiced it, 17:38 it's time to wear it. 17:45 We're going to wear it. 17:48 All right now, so, Jane, step into the seat. 17:51 Sit right here. 17:52 Okay, wait, wait, wait, sisters... 17:54 Jane, you're not being obedient again. 17:55 I know, I know, but ma, ma, 17:57 if it's okay, ma, it's all right. 17:59 Hurry up, come on. 18:01 I'm a little kaled out. Kaled out? 18:03 I mean, I'm a little kaled out. Because? 18:05 First we ate it... Yes, we ate it. 18:08 Then we juiced it. That's right. 18:12 Now you're telling me that I have to wear it? 18:14 Yeah, so sit down. 18:15 Sister number one, sister number two. 18:17 I'm not wearing kale today. Sister number three. 18:19 I'm not wearing kale today. Okay. 18:20 All right, we'll let you off the hook today. 18:22 For our wear it segment, 18:24 we want to welcome our special model, Marilyn... 18:29 Come on in. 18:33 Oh, Marilyn, I'm so happy to see you Marilyn. 18:36 I am too. 18:38 No, no, no you really don't understand. 18:40 I would have had to wear some kale today. 18:43 I'm here for you. 18:45 Marilyn, thank you so much for coming. 18:46 Right. Be comfortable. 18:47 Thank for coming back, Marilyn. Thank you for it. 18:49 You've helped us out with our lemon masque episode 18:52 and now you're back for our kale facial masque. 18:58 Are you ready for the kale? I'm ready. 19:00 Do you like kale? I do. 19:02 What are some of the things you do with kale? 19:03 I do a lot of juicing with it. 19:05 So I like to juice. That's great. 19:08 And we did a lot of juicing with kale today already. 19:11 Don't tell them. Do you eat kale? 19:14 I do. I like it in salads. 19:16 And we had some kale a little bit earlier today. 19:20 You like raw kale salads? 19:22 Okay so, all right. 19:24 Marilyn, Marilyn, do you wear kale? 19:27 No, I haven't worn it. 19:30 There is a first time for everything, Marilyn. 19:33 You will wear today. 19:35 You will wear the kale. Okay. 19:38 It's actually great because kale is filled with vitamin K 19:43 and it's filled with vitamin A 19:46 and these are great things for your skin. 19:48 And you have beautiful skin. You really do. 19:51 Thank you. I mean so beautiful. 19:53 So let's read the ingredients for our facial masque. 19:57 Jane, please read. 20:06 Simple. That's it. 20:07 Simple. Don't you like that? 20:09 I like that. Nice and easy. 20:10 Nice and easy. 20:12 All right, so now we're going to get this started. 20:13 So, we're going to put our chopped kale. 20:17 We'll add our water. 20:21 Then we'll drizzle in our honey after. 20:26 All right, it needs a little more water. 20:49 All right. 20:51 Are you scared? 20:52 All right, there we go. 20:54 Are you ready, Marilyn? I'm ready. 20:55 Okay. 20:56 And then you just pour it into a strainer 20:59 just to catch the kale pieces. 21:02 You smell all that fresh green chlorophyll? 21:06 Imagine what it's going to do to your beautiful skin. 21:09 I can't wait. All right. 21:11 So you move it around 21:13 and when you're done you're left with kale pieces. 21:16 You see that? 21:19 All right. 21:20 So now that we have our kale masque, 21:24 and you can make this as thick or as thin as you want, 21:28 it's just to get the juice on your face or, you know, 21:30 we've added the honey. 21:32 The honey is great antibacterial. 21:35 It can be used for the face to just get off 21:37 if you have any microbes trying to grow in the face 21:39 and the skin, you know, 21:41 and it just helps just arrest it. 21:43 Okay. 21:45 But let's begin, ladies, 21:47 putting the masque on this beauty. 21:48 Let's take off your glasses. Thank you. 21:51 I'll take those and you guys just begin. 21:53 Okay. 21:55 Are you ready, Marilyn? 21:56 I'm ready. All right. 21:58 I will move it a little close, 21:59 so we don't make a mess on Marilyn. 22:00 Tell us where you're from again? 22:02 I'm from Colorado. Colorado? 22:05 Yes. All right. 22:07 The place for skiing. Oh, that's right. 22:09 Does that mean that you are an excellent skier? 22:13 No. No? 22:14 I'm not excellent been skier. 22:16 So have you ever been skiing? I have. 22:17 So it was great? 22:19 No. No? 22:21 I almost killed myself. 22:24 Oh, no. That's not good. 22:26 I ate a lot of snow that day. 22:28 Oh, wow. 22:29 But it was fun. It was fun. 22:30 There goes the saint eat snow. 22:32 I would do it again for sure. 22:34 But I would take lessons. 22:36 But we love to skiing. Well, that's the key. 22:38 If you've never skied, take lessons. 22:40 Take lessons, right. That's great. 22:41 Wow. Okay. 22:43 So what brings you out from Colorado? 22:47 My husband got a job in engineering here. 22:50 He works in engineering 22:51 and then I came on three months later 22:56 and I work in the call center. 22:57 Oh, that's excellent. 22:59 So now you can just take these wonderful masque 23:01 and share with your coworkers? 23:03 Yes. And where is your husband from? 23:05 He is from New York. New York. 23:09 I mean, you know, Colorado is great. 23:11 I know, I know. 23:13 Nothing like the big apple. 23:16 He is a New Yorker. 23:18 So born and raised in New York? 23:20 Yes. Oh, nice. 23:22 So a New Yorker. 23:23 So we're just gonna let that dry a little bit. 23:25 Yes, we'll let this just let this masque dry 23:27 for about five or ten minutes. 23:29 It's not fussy and then when you remove it 23:32 from your face with nice warm, you know, 23:35 water or a nice warm dishcloth, 23:37 it will just leave your skin nice, silky, smooth, 23:41 and what it also does 23:42 is the vitamin K helps reduce dark circles. 23:48 And you know, we get dark circles. 23:51 Burning the midnight oil.
