00:21 My name is Shelley Quinn 00:22 and I welcome you to 00:23 "Exalting His Word". 00:25 A program that will focus on 00:26 the transforming power of 00:28 the word of God. 00:29 I'm convinced this teaching series can be 00:31 life changing for you. 00:33 Now, that's a bold statement but 00:35 I have it supported both by scripture 00:38 and by personal testimonies. 00:40 In scripture, 00:41 God said in Deuteronomy 32:47 that 00:45 His words are not idle words. 00:48 But that they are life to you. 00:50 And Jesus said in John 6:63 00:54 "The spirit gives life. 00:56 "The flesh counts for nothing. 00:58 "The words that I have spoken to you are spirit 01:02 "and they are life." 01:04 Our Loving Heavenly Father has a plan for our lives 01:08 and it is revealed in His word. 01:11 More than that, 01:12 the word of God has the creative power to 01:14 fulfill every detail of His plan. 01:17 And through this series 01:19 we'll be taking a closer look at 01:22 His wonderful plan of love 01:24 and learn how to put it into action by 01:27 putting God's word into practice. 01:30 And relying on the power of God that's available for us. 01:35 And as far as testimonies go, 01:37 I've been sharing this teaching for 01:39 a number of years now. 01:41 And I've witnessed when 01:42 you learn to Exalt His Word, 01:44 it doesn't matter how long you've been a Christian. 01:49 You learn to tap into 01:51 the source of God's power that 01:53 will change you in ways that 01:55 you didn't think possible. 01:57 Everyone from baby Christians to 02:00 Pastors have marveled 02:02 at how God changed their lives 02:04 through this wonderful understanding of 02:07 this Bible teaching. 02:09 He brought them into 02:10 a more intimate relationship with Him. 02:13 And a relationship that was filled with love, 02:17 joy, 02:18 peace, 02:20 and power! 02:21 Power that God provides us to walk in Christ's footsteps. 02:24 Like others, you'll discover that 02:27 the power of God's word 02:29 through that power you can escape from 02:31 the corruption of the world 02:33 and learn to be more like Jesus. 02:35 Which by the way, 02:37 the Bible says it's your destiny. 02:39 If we want to have abundant life here on earth 02:43 and share in the glorious eternal inheritance that 02:46 God has prepared for us, 02:49 it's vital that we understand 02:51 the importance of taping into 02:54 the power of God's word 02:56 by putting it into practice. 02:58 That's what we'll be talking about in this series. 03:00 How to enjoy abundant life 03:03 by putting God's word into practice. 03:05 Let's ask the Lord to bless our time together today. 03:10 Heavenly Father, 03:11 we ask in a special way that 03:13 you would anoint this program. 03:16 Anoint the ears of my brothers 03:19 and my sisters who are listening. 03:21 And Father God in the Name of Jesus we ask that 03:24 you will teach us how to 03:26 tap into the power that 03:28 You make available for us to 03:30 overcome evil and become like Jesus. 03:32 We give you all the praise and all the glory. 03:35 And we just acknowledge Father that 03:37 the Holy Spirit is our teacher. 03:39 In Christ' Name, amen. 03:43 Do you feel 03:44 there's got to be more to life than 03:46 you've been experiencing? 03:49 Are you tired of the old 03:51 three steps forward 03:52 two steps back routine? 03:54 Then stay tuned to learn that 03:56 God has a plan for your life! 03:58 He will give you 04:00 the power to press forward victoriously! 04:03 Before we begin today's Bible study, 04:06 let me first share some highlights of 04:08 what you can expect in weeks to come. 04:11 This will be a rapid overview just to 04:14 wet your appetite for 04:16 what's coming in these series. 04:18 I'll be sharing... [information on screen] 04:25 Then we'll move on to the plan the Lord has. 04:28 [information on screen] 05:27 It's going to be an exciting series! 05:30 I do hope you'll make it your practice to 05:33 tune in every week 05:34 and follow this teaching as it develops. 05:37 I know God will bless 05:40 the instruction of His word 05:42 and I eagerly expect Him to 05:44 bless you through this teaching. 05:46 We will be learning the act that God declares is 05:49 the most appropriate for you and for me to 05:53 give Him our highest respect 05:57 and bring Him glory. 05:59 And that is Exalting His Word. 06:02 In fact, 06:03 the practice of Exalting His Word 06:05 will give you a new lease on life. 06:10 Have you ever looked at your life 06:13 and wished that 06:15 you could maybe start over at some point? 06:19 I don't know your circumstances but 06:21 if you're anything like I was in the past, 06:24 feeling powerless to affect changes in your life, 06:29 desiring a closer walk with God 06:32 and wanting the joy of 06:35 your salvation restored. 06:37 I know you would appreciate a new beginning. 06:40 I've got good news! 06:42 God is the God of new beginnings! 06:45 Let me share with you how 06:47 He brought me from a destructive path 06:51 to His path of life. 06:53 Perhaps you're familiar with 06:55 the verse found in Isaiah 35:8 06:57 which talks about 06:59 God's highway of Holiness. 07:01 I think this is the narrow road that 07:03 Jesus mentioned that leads to life. 07:08 Let me read this to you from 07:09 Matthews 7:13 and 14 07:13 Jesus said, 07:15 "Enter through the narrow gate 07:17 "for wide is the gate 07:18 "and broad is the road that 07:20 "leads to destruction. 07:22 "But small is the gate 07:24 "and narrow the road that leads to life 07:28 "and only a few find it." 07:32 You know, I have to admit... 07:35 In the past it seemed to me that 07:39 God's highway of Holiness 07:41 was poorly paved and marked. 07:45 I didn't recognize the road signs. 07:47 The guide posts that 07:50 needed to be there to keep me 07:54 on the right path. 07:55 In fact, I stumbled into many potholes! 07:58 I took several wrong turns 08:00 and exits that ended in road blocks. 08:04 My loving Lord 08:05 would reach out for me 08:07 and guide me back to His path of life. 08:11 And hand in hand I walked happily with my Savior 08:15 for long stretches of the way. 08:17 Then incredibly I would withdraw my hands from His. 08:21 When I started wondering around 08:24 under my own direction again, 08:26 confusion soon clouded my mind. 08:30 I couldn't see the narrow path that 08:34 Christ ask me to follow. 08:38 You know, it baffled me 08:40 when passion for Christ as my first love 08:43 begin to fade. 08:45 Have you ever experienced that? 08:46 Why does the joy drain from Bible study? 08:51 Why does prayer become stiff 08:55 and mechanical? 08:56 Few people in the church 08:58 speak of this awkward condition so, 09:01 most of us master the cover up... 09:05 a verbal camouflage. 09:07 You know what I mean! 09:09 We give God lip service but 09:11 we don't yield daily control to Him. 09:15 That's what I did! 09:17 Can you identify with this dilemma? 09:20 If we're really honest with ourselves, 09:23 I think most of us can! 09:25 On a couple of occasions when I was young, 09:29 I ignored God's direction all together 09:31 and I followed a destructive path. 09:36 I would slam into a barricade 09:39 and then stunned and ashamed 09:42 I limped away. 09:46 Away from Christ. 09:48 This is embarrassing to admit but, 09:50 if I had been on trial 09:52 as a believer in Christ 09:54 during those episodes, 09:55 they couldn't have produced enough physical evidence 09:59 to convict me. 10:01 Even now, 10:02 shame strikes at my heart if 10:05 I visit the gallery of my past. 10:06 But the Lord has taught me to 10:09 return my focus to Him rapidly! 10:14 We ALL need to keep our eyes 10:17 fixed on our Savior. 10:19 And then His voice reassuring us that we are forgiven 10:23 will help us to avoid falling 10:26 into the pit of condemnation. 10:28 We should learn to side step that snare of the devil! 10:33 And by God's divine grace to press forward, 10:37 in assurance of His power to 10:41 keep our feet from slipping off track again. 10:44 If we do this our hearts will be filled with joy, 10:49 thanksgiving, 10:50 and praise to the God of new beginnings! 10:54 There is a way to keep our hand in God's hand. 10:59 God is teaching me to walk so near to Him that 11:04 I sense His heartbeat! 11:06 And He wants to teach this to you also. 11:10 We all need to recognize 11:12 we're absolutely dependant upon His power to 11:17 work in us. 11:19 God has revealed to me 11:20 the central mystery of Christian life. 11:24 And that is the triumphant intrigue of His word. 11:30 The miracle working power of God's word is 11:34 His way to transform us into His image. 11:38 God is teaching me to exalt His word above all things. 11:44 And the Lord wants you to experience 11:47 the joy of this lifestyle too! 11:50 It pays to know this. 11:52 The secret of success for all humanity is 11:57 "Exalting His Word". 12:00 I want to explain to you 12:02 where the program title came from. 12:06 In Psalms 138:2 the Bible says... 12:11 [text on screen] 12:24 What does that mean? 12:26 A study in the Hebrew language 12:28 helped me gain a better understanding of 12:32 this wonderful truth. 12:35 The bottom line is this... 12:37 God exalts His word above everything! 12:42 That means nothing is more important to God 12:46 than His word! 12:48 [information on screen] 13:41 Why? 13:42 The Bible explains it to us 13:44 in the first chapter of the Gospel of John. 13:48 "In the beginning was the Word 13:51 "and the Word was with God 13:53 "and the Word was God. 13:56 "And in Him... 13:58 He became flesh, the Word became flesh 14:01 "In Him was life, 14:04 "and that life was the light for all men." 14:08 And the word of God sacrificed His lifeblood to 14:14 save you and me. 14:16 Jesus Christ was, is and ever will be 14:21 the Living Word of God. 14:24 Even at His second coming, 14:26 the Bible describes Jesus as the Word. 14:31 Let me read to you from 14:34 Revelation 19:13 and 16. 14:40 This is what the Bible declares... 14:42 "He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood. 14:47 "And His name is called the Word of God. 14:52 "And He has on His robe and on His thigh 14:57 "a name written 14:58 "King of Kings and Lord of Lords." 15:03 In the Bible Christ is also called 15:06 the Word of Life. 15:08 Everything that He is, the Bible is also. 15:13 He is love, 15:15 light, 15:16 life 15:17 and power. 15:19 The Bible is love, 15:20 light, 15:22 life 15:23 and power. 15:25 How privileged we are to 15:27 hold a Bible in our hands! 15:30 We are grasping the hand of God. 15:34 And He will lead us! 15:36 Since God exalts His word above everything else, 15:42 would you agree with me that 15:44 the Word of God should be our top priority also? 15:49 God's promises, 15:52 His purpose in bringing you this teaching is to 15:57 help you grasp the true meaning of 16:00 Exalting His Word. 16:02 We'll let the Bible tell us 16:06 and teach us 16:07 why God has elevated His word to 16:09 the place of highest honor and ranking. 16:13 Just as important, 16:14 this study will teach us and reveal 16:18 how we too can exalt God's Word! 16:21 This is a life changing study! 16:25 I have it on the authority of God's word. 16:29 Do you want a closer walk with Jesus? 18:54 If we try to live as Christians 18:58 by limited human strength 19:00 and understanding, 19:01 we are to be pitied because we have forgotten 19:04 our Lord's advice to us from John 15:5. 19:09 Jesus said, 19:10 "Apart from Me, you can do nothing." 19:14 The pitiful condition of 19:15 my earlier Christian experience 19:18 was because I tried to 19:20 live for Christ by self propelled performance. 19:25 Not knowing how to achieve 19:28 and sustain maturity in Christ. 19:30 I followed the old routine of three steps forward 19:34 two steps back! 19:36 In fact, I felt like a child that 19:38 was trying to walk up the down escalator. 19:41 Have you ever seen a child at play like this? 19:44 With great enthusiasm he meets the challenge of 19:46 the mechanical stairs that are flowing downward. 19:51 And usually he scrambles about half way up 19:55 the moving staircase. 19:57 Then resting for a moment he lets 19:59 the staircase bring him back 20:02 in the opposite direction. 20:03 And then as he nears the bottom platform again 20:06 the upward struggle begins again! 20:10 You know, 20:11 watching children in this action 20:13 I've noted something that's very interesting. 20:15 Rarely do they press forward all the way to the top 20:19 and step off the escalator. 20:21 Most often they perform the upward effort, 20:24 stop their advancement, 20:25 and ride the downward flow. 20:28 Then they struggle up a similar distance 20:31 and backslide again. 20:33 When they're finally weary of the game 20:35 they stop! 20:38 Can you see a comparison 20:40 between our Christian walk 20:42 and this escalator scene? 20:44 Christians struggle against 20:46 the downward trend of the world system. 20:50 It's just like we were trying to 20:52 walk up a down escalator! 20:55 If we stop advancing, 20:58 we start back sliding! 21:01 And if we're startled into weariness of loss ground 21:05 usually we start pressing forward again 21:08 unless we've grown exhausted by the effort. 21:11 Oh how we must guard our hearts so that 21:15 we don't weary of the upward race! 21:18 Unchecked backsliding 21:20 can cost us our relationship with Christ 21:23 and it doesn't have to be this way! 21:25 God will give us the victory 21:28 if we'll just let Him! 21:29 We must press forward in determination to 21:33 make to the top in Christ like maturity 21:35 depending on His power to overcome all of our obstacles! 21:41 One of my favorite scripture promises is 21:45 II Corinthians 12:9. 21:47 Jesus said, 21:48 "My GRACE is sufficient for you. 21:51 "For My power is made perfect in your weakness." 21:55 He never intended for us to rely on limited human strength. 22:02 We can't press forward without His power! 22:06 Backsliding can't be prevented without His power! 22:10 Remember the Savior's words? 22:13 "Apart from me you can do nothing." 22:17 Only the power of Christ overcomes our weaknesses. 22:21 Only by His power are we able to 22:26 do what He asks us to do. 22:27 Our hope is found in absolute dependence upon God. 22:34 It's true. 22:35 He is the God of new beginnings! 22:37 The Bible tells us in Lamentations 3:22,23 22:43 "because of the Lord's great love 22:48 "For His compassions never fail! 22:51 "They are new every morning!" 22:54 Let me ask you... 22:55 have you grown weary 22:57 and realized that you are backsliding? 22:58 He will renew your strength 23:00 exchanging His strength for yours! 23:04 Have you made a wrong turn 23:07 and find you're in a crooked path? 23:09 Cry out for direction. 23:11 He will guide you back to the path of light! 23:15 Is there an obstacle that is preventing you 23:19 from drawing near to the Lord? 23:22 He desires to remove it 23:24 and He will 23:25 if you'll just give Him permission. 23:27 Let me read one of 23:29 my favorite scripture promises from Isaiah... 23:33 excuse me- 23:34 Jeremiah 29:11. 23:37 I hardly have to read it because 23:39 I know this one by heart but He says, 23:42 "I know the plans I have for you. 23:46 "Plans to prosper you 23:49 "and not to harm you. 23:52 "Plans to give you hope and a future." 23:55 God does have a plan for our lives! 23:59 And let me tell you something... 24:00 It's better than the one we're living! 24:03 In fact, 24:05 it is dramatically different than the one 24:08 most Christians are following. 24:10 In His unconditional love 24:12 and infinite wisdom 24:15 He designed a plan that is so simple 24:18 anyone can share in it. 24:21 The word of God reveals the plan 24:25 but it does more than that. 24:27 It actually brings the power to 24:30 create God's purposes in us. 24:32 Jesus Christ is the mediator for this plan. 24:35 He brings us into agreement with this God 24:38 and reconciles our differences. 24:40 Now what exactly does that mean to reconcile? 24:46 To understand this term 24:47 I think the easiest thing to do is to 24:50 compare it to our banking account. 24:53 We were overdrawn in our account with God 25:00 because of sin. 25:01 There was no way that we could pay the debt. 25:04 So Christ paid our debt for us 25:09 on the cross of Calvary. 25:11 And then in addition to that, 25:13 He deposited His righteousness into our account to 25:20 cover our deficit. 25:22 Then God sent His Holy Spirit 25:24 and He is the agent... 25:26 the helper of this plan. 25:29 I'll tell you 25:31 it is by the Spirit's power operating within us that 25:35 God can work out His plan for our lives. 25:39 In fact... 25:40 [information on screen] 26:04 My most favorite Bible promise is 26:07 Philippians 2:13 26:09 [text on screen] 26:16 God's message to you today can be summarized 26:20 in Isaiah 43:18,19. 26:23 Listen to the heart of 26:25 our loving Heavenly Father... 26:28 [information on screen] 26:55 Friend, God wants to give you 26:59 the gift of a new beginning. 27:03 Will you receive it? 27:05 I pray that you do. 27:07 Well, that's all the time that we have for today. 27:11 I hope that you'll tune in next week 27:13 when I'll share how God proved to me that 27:18 His word is life. 27:20 When He miraculously healed me. 27:22 My prayer for you is that 27:25 God will multiply His mercy, 27:29 His love and His grace to you and yours. 27:32 And that He will watch over His word to 27:35 perform it in your life 27:37 as you cooperate with Him. 27:39 I hope that today you've been encouraged 27:43 in some way to spend your time 27:46 making that which is most important to God 27:50 the very thing that is also most important to you. 27:56 Exalting His Word. |
