00:19 Hello.
00:20 My name is Shelley Quinn
00:21 and I welcome you to
00:23 Exalting His Word.
00:24 Today we will discuss
00:25 righteousness by faith
00:27 and how to demonstrate
00:30 our love for God.
00:31 We are going to learn
00:32 how to take scriptures on these two topics
00:35 and make God's testimony about us
00:38 our life affirmation.
00:40 I encourage you to get a pen
00:43 and paper ready because
00:44 you're probably going to
00:46 want to take some program notes.
00:48 Today's program will be similar to
00:50 a Bible workshop exercise.
00:53 You are going to learn
00:55 how to plug in to
00:57 the transforming power of the word of God
01:00 and I think you're going to love it!
01:04 Before we begin,
01:05 let's review our theme text
01:07 which is Psalms 138:2.
01:10 And in that verse
01:11 the Bible says that
01:13 God exalts His name
01:15 and His word
01:16 above all things.
01:18 And He exalts His word
01:19 even above His name.
01:22 What does that mean?
01:23 I had to do a study in
01:25 Hebrew to really see
01:26 the depth of the meaning of this verse.
01:30 It means that
01:31 God has promoted His word to
01:34 the highest rank of importance.
01:36 Nothing is more important to God
01:38 than His word.
01:40 He has assigned the highest position of
01:43 praise to His word.
01:44 God exalts His word
01:46 more than anything else because
01:49 He has granted creative,
01:51 life giving power to His word.
01:53 Power to accomplish all of His will.
01:57 And today,
01:58 we're going to learn
02:00 how to exalt God's word.
02:02 Let's go to the Lord in prayer
02:03 and ask Him to bless our study.
02:06 Heavenly Father,
02:07 we come before you today to ask
02:10 in the Name of Jesus that
02:12 the Holy Spirit will be our teacher.
02:15 And Father God,
02:16 we ask that you would sanctify us
02:18 by Your word today.
02:20 We thank you Father for
02:22 the privilege that you have given us to be
02:24 called your children.
02:26 In Jesus Name, amen.
02:27 Today's program is going to be
02:30 like a "good ole" Bible study
02:33 with a slightly different outcome.
02:35 I want to show you how to take scriptures
02:39 and speak God's truth over your life.
02:43 Let me show you an affirmation that
02:45 I developed from a number of scriptures.
02:47 Then what we're going to do is
02:49 take it apart line by line.
02:52 And we will look at the Bible verses that
02:55 support this affirmation.
02:57 So here's our first
02:58 Life Affirmation from Scripture.
03:01 [information on screen]
03:33 Now, are you ready to see
03:35 how I came up with this affirmation?
03:38 Let's look at it line by line
03:40 with the scriptural support.
03:43 The first line said,
03:44 "I am the righteousness of God
03:47 "in Christ Jesus."
03:49 You know,
03:50 II Corinthians 5:21 says that about us!
03:53 It says
03:54 "God made Him
03:56 "who had no sin to be sin for us.
04:00 "So that in Him,
04:02 (in Christ),
04:03 "we might become
04:05 "the righteousness of God."
04:07 And in the second line says that
04:10 "God has credited
04:12 "Christ's righteousness to me."
04:14 The Bible says that in I Corinthians 1:30.
04:17 I want to read to you from
04:19 the New Amplified version.
04:20 "But it is from Him (from God)
04:23 "That you have your life in Christ Jesus.
04:26 "Whom God made our wisdom from God
04:30 "our righteousness."
04:33 Which the amplified says,
04:34 "Thus making us upright
04:37 "and putting us in right standing with God
04:40 "and He became our consecration."
04:44 Which means that
04:46 He makes us pure and holy.
04:48 And our redemption.
04:51 He provided our ransom from
04:54 the eternal penalty for sin.
04:56 So there we see that
04:58 Christ is our righteousness,
05:01 our consecration,
05:02 and our redemption.
05:05 And also,
05:06 Isaiah 61:10
05:08 That verse says,
05:10 "My soul shall be joyful in my God.
05:14 "For He has clothed me with
05:17 "the garments of Salvation.
05:20 "He has covered me with
05:22 "the Robe of Righteousness."
05:27 Then the next line says that
05:29 righteousness by faith is
05:31 the only righteousness that exists.
05:35 Isaiah 64:6 says this,
05:38 "But we all are like
05:41 "an unclean thing,
05:43 "and all our righteousnesses are
05:46 "like filthy rags."
05:49 When we stand in the shadow of
05:52 the Holiness of God
05:54 the very best that you and I can do
05:57 by our human effort can not measure up to
06:01 anything that God can do.
06:04 Our righteousness,
06:05 our righteous acts are as filthy rags.
06:07 We have to rely on God to work in us to do
06:13 things His way.
06:16 And in Jeremiah 23:6 says this;
06:19 "Now this is His Name.
06:22 "The Lord our Righteousness."
06:26 Even in the Old Testament
06:29 God was always
06:31 the righteousness of His people.
06:33 It has always been righteousness by faith.
06:37 And Romans 9:30 says this...
06:41 "Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness
06:44 "have attained to righteousness..."
06:47 Notice this...
06:49 "Even the righteousness of faith."
06:54 Now our next line says...
06:57 "Being made righteous
06:58 "I now put it into practice
07:02 "by following God's way of thinking and acting.
07:06 "I am obeying His commandments
07:09 "by His righteousness within me."
07:14 You know we always want to
07:17 have a balanced message.
07:19 Yes, we are righteous by faith but
07:21 I John 2:29 says this...
07:25 "If you know that He is righteous
07:29 "you know that everyone
07:30 "who practices righteousness is born of Him."
07:37 And I John 3:7-8 says this...
07:44 "Little children let no one deceive you.
07:48 "He who practices righteousness is righteous
07:54 just as He is righteous."
07:57 It goes on to say...
07:59 "He who sins is of the devil.
08:02 "For this purpose
08:03 "the Son of God was manifested that
08:06 He might destroy the works of the devil."
08:11 Psalms 85:10-13 says...
08:16 "Righteousness will go before him
08:19 "and shall make His footsteps our pathway."
08:24 Now, let's take all of that
08:27 and put it back together
08:29 and we can declare
08:31 with our living voice
08:33 the testimony of God about
08:36 what He says you and I are in Christ.
08:41 And that is...
08:43 [information on screen]
09:14 Now what I'd like to do is
09:16 just take a quick moment for an announcement
09:19 and we're gonna be right back to do another
09:22 Life Affirmation from Scripture so,
09:25 please stay tuned...
09:29 If this dynamic series is
09:30 making a difference in your life,
09:31 then you should know about
09:33 a special study guide
09:34 written by Shelley Quinn.
09:36 Exalting His Word with
09:37 Life Affirmations From Scripture
09:38 is an in depth study of the word of God.
09:42 Please send your love gifts to...
09:58 Now, let's look at an other
10:02 Life Affirmation from Scripture.
10:04 What we're doing here is
10:05 simply taking God's word,
10:08 His testimony about you and me.
10:11 About who we are in Christ.
10:13 And we are speaking it over our lives.
10:17 That's important to do
10:18 because God says
10:20 His word will not return void
10:23 but will accomplish
10:24 every purpose for which He sent it.
10:26 Our next affirmation says...
10:29 [information on screen]
11:04 You know,
11:05 I used to speak this over my life
11:08 and I would just stop with
11:11 the first part and say,
11:13 I love the Lord my God
11:14 with all of my heart
11:16 soul and strength.
11:18 Because Jesus said in
11:19 Mark 12:30 that
11:21 that is the most important commandment.
11:23 But then as I would speak God's word back to Him
11:26 and I would suddenly just become aware that
11:33 I really wasn't loving God
11:35 with all my heart soul,
11:37 mind and strength.
11:39 And I felt so pitifully inadequate to do so.
11:42 But I'm gonna show you as we take this apart
11:45 how the Lord started teaching me to
11:49 let Him watch over His word to perform it.
11:52 The first line says
11:54 "I love the Lord my God
11:56 "with all my heart soul,
11:58 "mind, and strength."
11:59 that comes from Mark 12:28-30
12:03 and what happened is
12:05 one of the rulers asked Jesus...
12:07 "Of all of the commandments
12:09 "which is the most important?"
12:12 And Jesus said this...
12:15 "The most important one
12:17 "answered Jesus is this...
12:20 "Love the Lord your God
12:22 "with all of your heart,
12:24 "with all of your soul,
12:26 "with all of your mind
12:28 "and with all of your strength."
12:33 Now, we have to realize that
12:35 we can't even do this in our own power.
12:39 This is what's most important to God
12:41 as far as His commandments go.
12:44 Is to love Him with everything!
12:47 Every fiber of our being!
12:49 But as the affirmation says,
12:53 even in this response to Him,
12:56 I am totally dependent upon God.
13:00 God is the source of love.
13:03 I open my heart
13:05 and allow Him to pour
13:07 His love in to me.
13:09 God empowers me to
13:12 respond in love.
13:13 Where I got that part of the affirmation is
13:17 from Romans 5:5.
13:18 And the Bible says,
13:20 "The love of God
13:22 "has been poured out in our hearts
13:26 "by the Holy Spirit
13:27 "who was given to us.
13:29 You and I can not love God
13:34 the way He wants us to love Him
13:36 by human effort.
13:38 It is by the infused power of the Holy Spirit
13:42 and the power of His word.
13:44 It's God working in us to cause us to will
13:48 and to act that empowers us to
13:52 be motivated by love
13:55 and to let God become truly our Abba Father.
14:02 The next part of the affirmation says,
14:05 I am always mindful of Jesus Christ
14:09 my first love.
14:11 And I'll bet you know
14:12 where I got that one!
14:14 That's in Revelation 2:3-5
14:19 Jesus said this,
14:20 "You have persevered
14:22 "and have endured hardships for My name
14:25 "and have not grown weary.
14:27 "Yet I hold this against you.
14:30 "You have forsaken your first love."
14:35 Remember the height from which you have fallen.
14:40 Repent and do the things that you did at first."
14:44 Let me ask you this...
14:46 Have you forsaken your first love?
14:49 Is Jesus still as important to you
14:52 as the first day that you enjoyed
14:56 the joy of your salvation?
14:59 If He's not
15:01 and if you're aware that
15:02 there are other things
15:04 other priorities in you life that are
15:07 standing between you and your Lord,
15:09 I want to encourage you to
15:12 speak this over your life!
15:13 Because, once again,
15:15 when I first started saying that
15:18 I am always mindful of my first love,
15:22 I was very aware that
15:24 that was not what I was experiencing
15:29 in my life.
15:30 But the Bible says in Romans 4:17 that
15:33 God calls things that are not,
15:35 as though they were.
15:37 And as I began letting that
15:40 be my testimony that
15:41 I was always be mindful of my first love.
15:45 God's word did not return void.
15:48 But He began watching over
15:51 His word in my life to perform it
15:53 and within just a few weeks of speaking
15:57 His word over my life
16:00 as my RHEMA affirmation
16:01 I began putting it into practice
16:04 by God's power!
16:06 So now, let's put all of those
16:09 sentences back together
16:10 and we are going to reassemble that affirmation.
16:14 [information on screen]
16:46 I hope you're beginning to see that
16:48 there's power in this practice.
16:51 Now let's move on to our next
16:53 Life Affirmation from Scripture.
16:56 And that says...
16:58 [information on screen]
17:14 You know something?
17:16 I meet alot of people
17:17 who call themselves Christians
17:19 who think that obedience is not important
17:23 and they'll say,
17:24 "Oh, I love the Lord!"
17:26 And it's some type of
17:28 an emotional feeling that they have that
17:31 they're expressing.
17:33 But what Jesus said
17:35 and where I got this first line
17:37 "This is how I demonstrate my love for God
17:40 "I obey His commandments."
17:42 Jesus said in John 14:15
17:46 "If you love me keep my commandments."
17:52 And I John 2:3-4 says this...
17:58 "Now by this we know that we know Him."
18:04 Now listen...
18:05 IT'S BY THIS THAT WE KNOW THAT
18:08 WE KNOW HIM
18:10 IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.
18:14 In other words,
18:16 if we do not keep His commandments,
18:18 we don't know Him.
18:20 The Bible says,
18:21 going on in that verse...
18:23 "He who says I know Him
18:26 "and does not keep His commandments
18:28 "is a liar and the truth is not in Him."
18:34 I think that's pretty a stern warning that
18:39 John is telling us here.
18:40 If we say we love Jesus,
18:42 if we say we know Jesus, but,
18:44 we're not walking in obedience to His commandments,
18:49 then we're lying.
18:52 Now,
18:53 well let's go on to
18:55 the next verse which is I John 5:3,4.
19:00 And it says,
19:02 "For this is the love of God
19:04 "that we keep His commandments
19:07 "and His commandments are
19:10 "not burdensome."
19:12 Let me stop there for just a moment...
19:14 Why are they not burdensome?
19:15 Because it is God who is working in us to
19:20 cause us to will
19:22 and to act according to His good purposes.
19:25 If we're walking in surrender,
19:28 yield in daily controlled to God,
19:31 God will do an empowering work in us.
19:35 Remember we studied the law of liberty?
19:39 We must be absolutely reliant on
19:43 Jesus' power to do a work in our hearts that
19:46 causes us and empowers us to walk in obedience.
19:51 And then the scripture goes on and I love this...
19:55 It's I John 5:4
19:57 "For whatever is born of God
20:02 overcomes the world.
20:03 "And this is the victory that has overcome the world
20:06 "our faith."
20:09 The next line says,
20:11 "I put His word into practice."
20:16 I got that as an affirmation from
20:21 Luke 8:21
20:22 Jesus is replying here to someone and He says,
20:27 "My mother and brothers are
20:29 "those who hear God's word
20:32 "and put it into practice."
20:36 We should be practicing Christians.
20:40 Luke 11:28
20:43 I'll read this from the Amplified...
20:46 "but He said, (Jesus said)
20:49 "Blessed rather are those
20:52 "who hear the word of God
20:54 "and obey and practice it."
20:59 Now, the next line says,
21:02 "I am held accountable for that which
21:07 "He has reveled to me."
21:12 You know,
21:13 I wanna stop here for just a second
21:15 and say,
21:17 when I really started studying the Bible
21:19 in a topical fashion
21:21 and when the Lord lead me on
21:25 a really wonderful study on the Old Covenant
21:30 and the New Covenant.
21:31 And when He lead me to really take
21:34 a new look at the ten commandments,
21:37 one of the first things that I recognized was,
21:40 all of my life I thought
21:45 but I was ignoring
21:48 the fourth commandment which says,
21:50 "Remember the Sabbath."
21:52 And the reason I was ignoring it
21:55 is because I had been taught that
21:58 the commandments were nailed to the cross.
22:00 And the Lord had to take me to a deep study to
22:03 help me unlearn that err.
22:05 And once He proved that to me,
22:08 then suddenly I was faced with
22:13 an issue that was very important.
22:16 Because we are held accountable
22:18 for that which has been revealed to us.
22:20 So, I was very excited
22:23 and thrilled and nervous in some ways
22:28 about changing my life
22:29 to walk in obedience to that commandment.
22:33 But the first time I ever celebrated
22:36 one of God's Holy Sabbaths
22:38 I understood what it meant to
22:40 have complete freedom from performance.
22:43 To come to that point where
22:45 I was completely relying on God.
22:48 Let me go on...
22:50 I am held accountable for that
22:53 which He has revealed to me.
22:55 This comes from Philippians 3:16 that says,
23:02 "Only let us hold true to
23:05 "what we have already obtained
23:09 "and walk and order our lives by that.
23:13 And also in I Corinthians 4:2
23:19 It says...
23:20 "Now, it is required that
23:23 "those who have been given a trust
23:27 "must prove faithful."
23:30 And then Romans 14:23 from the Amplified says,
23:38 "For whatever does not originate
23:40 "and proceed from faith is sin."
23:45 I like the notation here
23:47 in the Amplified version because
23:49 it helps explain what the scripture is saying.
23:54 It says,
23:56 "Whatever is done
23:58 "without a conviction of its approval by God
24:01 "is sinful".
24:03 In other words,
24:04 we must,
24:06 we are held accountable to
24:08 what God's word says.
24:11 And when we say that we're doing
24:13 something by faith,
24:15 just because we want to be doing it
24:18 and we don't see anything wrong with it,
24:21 really we're in err!
24:23 We have to be walking in conviction that
24:27 what we are doing is approved by God.
24:32 Once again now,
24:33 let's put all of these affirmations or
24:36 sentences back together to form affirmation.
24:42 [information on screen]
25:02 You know,
25:04 it's interesting
25:05 and this may seem a little strange to you initially
25:09 to be speaking God's word over your life.
25:13 But it is so amazing how as we change our testimony,
25:21 I was talking with someone recently who said
25:24 "It was like changing yourself talk."
25:28 When we quit speaking things over our life that
25:32 don't line up with God's word,
25:35 when we start speaking God's word over our life,
25:40 it is something about
25:42 planting God's word in our heart.
25:46 Planting His promises in our heart
25:49 and confessing them with our living voice.
25:52 There is something in this process that
25:57 releases the transforming power of
26:01 the word of God.
26:04 It is a practice that I've been doing since 1995
26:09 and I can tell you that
26:12 it's amazing how the Lord
26:14 has developed His word
26:16 in me.
26:19 He has empowered me to put
26:23 His word into practice
26:25 and it all came because
26:27 I started speaking God's word over my life.
26:29 I started recognizing in this process
26:34 who I was in Christ Jesus.
26:37 And God has filled me with love,
26:41 joy, peace, and zeal!
26:43 I am a very enthusiastic Christian!
26:47 And I don't know if you know this but
26:49 the word enthusiasm is really
26:53 if you break that down "enthio"
26:55 means God within.
26:57 Christians should be enthusiastic!
27:01 We should be joyful.
27:03 Well, I hope that you can join us next week.
27:07 What we're going to do then is learn
27:10 how to pray God's promises back to Him.
27:14 And we're also going to learn
27:17 how we can walk in perfect peace
27:19 and trust God's plan for our lives.
27:23 May God multiply His mercy,
27:26 His love and His grace to you.
27:28 And may He watch over His word to
27:33 perform it in your life.
27:36 As you cooperate with Him.
27:38 As you make His word your life affirmation.
27:43 Returning it to Him because
27:46 it will not return void.
27:48 I hope my dear friends,
27:50 that you will remember to spend your time
27:54 making that which is most important to God
27:56 the very thing that's also most important to you.
28:00 Exalting His Word.
