00:01 Hi there!
00:03 I'm Grandma Neal. 00:04 The program you are about to see 00:05 shows a typical day for the children 00:06 in my neighborhood, who visit me, 00:08 at Grandma's house, in Chehalis, Washington. 00:10 These children are not actors. 00:12 They are just being themselves, 00:14 as I let you peek inside our doors. 00:16 What a joy it is to see them 00:19 learn of Jesus for the very first time. 00:21 Come on inside now and enjoy a little visit at Grandma's house. 00:39 This is Grandma's house. 00:43 Hi kids! 00:44 I want you to meet my new grandson here, Seth. 00:47 Seth and I are out and about the town today, 00:50 and one of the first stops we've made is here, at his old church. 00:54 Is called the Victory Baptist Church 00:55 What do you think Seth? 00:57 Wow.. look at that bell! 00:58 Is that a cool bell? 00:59 Aha! 01:01 It would be nice if you could ring it, wouldn't it? 01:03 Can I go peek around? 01:05 Sure you can, go ahead, look around. 01:09 I'd like to bring Seth down and show him historic places 01:12 around the town. 01:13 That's why I wanted you along on this trip too. 01:16 The old places are some of the best places you know. 01:19 And I love this church because it reminds me of the little 01:22 church that I went to, when I was a little girl. 01:25 When I was there I'd sit on my dance lap 01:27 and I want to tell you, the thing I remember most about that 01:30 is his pants were awfully scratchy 01:32 and my dress was awful short. 01:34 And I'd sit there and wiggle 01:36 all through the church service. 01:38 But what else I remember about that 01:40 is all the wonderful people that were there 01:43 and we'd sing songs about Jesus. 01:46 We'd have such a good time. 01:47 So I think a church is a really wonderful thing 01:50 to have in your neighborhood. 01:51 I hope you have one nearby 01:53 and I hope you go every week. 01:55 This church is really pretty old, 01:57 it's over a hundred years old, 02:00 and it was first built for a Seventh Day Adventist Church. 02:03 But now you can see it's used by Baptist, 02:05 and I think there've been some other congregations 02:07 in there over the years too. 02:09 I'm not sure what all they are, 02:11 but I know lots of different people have enjoyed this church. 02:15 Well I want to show you another church too, 02:17 that's across town. 02:18 Would you like to come and see it too? 02:20 Come on! 02:22 We're in a place called Claquato. 02:24 That's an old Indian word. 02:26 This is a really old church. 02:28 It was built in 1858, 02:30 which is a long time ago. 02:33 Just.. before I was even born. 02:35 Hard to imagine, isn't it? 02:37 The steeple is something I'd really like you to look at. 02:41 They guess there really is an old bell up there, 02:43 and they still do have church services here. 02:46 I'm told there are two little old ladies, 02:49 who come to church here, every Sunday. 02:52 and one old gentleman, who comes to tell them about Jesus. 02:56 If you look up, at the steeple, 02:57 it's a beautiful steeple. 02:59 There's a square on the bottom, 03:01 and then, they built an octagon on top of that. 03:04 And on the very top of that 03:05 there's some spiky things, you see those? 03:08 Well that's called a crown of thorns. 03:12 You don't see many steeples that look like that. 03:15 The crown of thorns major represents the thorns 03:18 that were on Jesus head, when He died for us on the cross. 03:21 And I think that's a really neat thing to put 03:24 on top of the steeple. 03:25 That way it reminds everybody who comes by 03:28 that Jesus died for them. 03:30 I'd like to see more about this place. 03:31 Would you like to look in the windows 03:32 and look around with me? 03:34 Come on, let's go, I'll show you some cool stuff. 03:40 Well what does it say Seth? 03:43 It says it's the Claquato church, 03:46 that's a National Historical Marker 03:48 saying it's registered with the Government 03:51 as being a historical site. 03:53 You know that's a good thing. 03:55 It's nice to preserve our past, 03:57 and to value the things of the past, 04:00 like grandmas, old people like me, 04:04 and old churches. 04:06 Let's go look inside Seth, 04:07 we wanna look in the windows, 04:08 we wanna see what it was really like 04:10 to go to the church a hundred and fifty years ago. 04:12 What do you think? 04:17 Oh wow.. look at the old pump organ. 04:20 Oh my... 04:22 And there's the seats.. 04:23 And oh look up on the wall there is a kerosene lamp see 04:25 how it's got the metal behind it to reflect. 04:29 Oh this is so cool in here. 04:31 And even the old wallpaper. 04:33 Oh and look, back there, 04:34 see the old place where the minister used to preach. 04:37 Not nearly as fancy as today, is it? 04:42 Oh this is so cool! 04:46 You know what else Seth? 04:47 Back in the old days, 04:49 they didn't have water, running water inside the church. 04:53 So where do you suppose they had the lavatories? 04:57 Where did they have the bathrooms? 04:59 That's what I was wondering. You know what? 05:02 What I can remember when I was a little kid 05:04 we had something called an outhouse. 05:05 Do you suppose they might have one here? 05:07 Let's go check it out! 05:08 Why don't we go up this way? 05:09 See if there is anything around back that would be 05:11 of interest to us. Come on! 05:13 So this is the bathroom? 05:15 That's right! 05:16 Doesn't it look like your bathroom at home? 05:20 Ok. What do you think? 05:21 How do you flush it? 05:22 Well now that's a good question! 05:24 You actually didn't. 05:26 When we had one, though we had a bench 05:28 that went all the way across, 05:30 and besides, the hole where you sat 05:32 there was always a catalogue. 05:34 You know what they used that for? 05:36 Toilet paper? 05:37 Bingo! You got it! 05:41 See if you can lock all that up. 05:44 Well Seth, I think we'd better wander on, downtown. 05:47 We're suppose to meet Brittney pretty soon, 05:49 at the farm store. 05:50 We've got several errands to run. 05:52 Would you like to come with us and see some more 05:54 of our own home town? Come on! Let's go! 07:15 Thank you very much! 07:17 See you later! 07:18 Nice to meet you! Bye Brittney! 08:59 Do you like these? Are these me? 09:14 Oh, you're a little bit off balance. 09:49 All right, you're a rich man! 09:58 This has been the best stop of the day. 10:01 Always is. 10:02 That's when I get to get my mail from you kids. 10:04 >From everywhere. 10:05 I've got letters from all over the place. 10:08 You know.. I just love it! 10:10 So you know what? 10:11 If you don't have my address already 10:13 why don't you get out your pencils and your paper 10:14 and get ready to take it down? 10:16 Are you ready? Here it is! 10:20 Hi kids! 10:21 Grandma Neal would love to hear from you. 10:23 She loves to get pictures, drawings, and anything else 10:25 you may want to send her. 10:27 She also answers each one of your letters, 10:28 so get you pen ready and write down her address. Ok? 10:32 If you want to write her a letter, 10:33 address it to: 10:50 Grandma also loves to get emails, at: 10:56 That's grandma@3abn, that's the number 3 10:58 and the letters abn.org 11:01 She'd love to hear from you. 11:04 Seth and Brittney have gone on home now, 11:06 to put their stuff away. 11:07 I hope you enjoyed 11:09 this whirlwind tour of our hometown. 11:12 The home town I live in now is bigger and more modern 11:15 than the one I lived in when I was a kid. 11:17 There's just something about my old hometown! 11:20 Makes me feel kind of wistful. 11:23 It's partly an achy feeling, that brings warmth 11:26 and a sense of well-being. 11:28 It's kind of a longing for what we, antique people, call 11:32 the good old days! 11:34 The good old days are really slippery to get your hands on 11:36 because, however old you are today, 11:40 some day in the future, when you remember 11:41 this time in your life, it will be the good old days. 11:45 The good old days always seem to be in the past, 11:48 but they are really today. 11:50 Even tomorrow will became the good old days sometimes. 11:54 I get that same wistful kind of feeling 11:57 when I think about my other hometown, too. 12:00 You know, the one Jesus is building for us right now. 12:04 I like to imagine what my home there would be like. 12:08 I especially love to think about all the people I love here, 12:12 and how we'll all have the same hometown then. 12:15 I can see you everyday, if we want. 12:18 We won't be separated anymore! 12:21 Neither of us will ever get sick, 12:22 and I won't be an antique anymore. 12:25 I'll be as young and as lively as I could ever imagine. 12:29 And you, well you'll hardly recognize yourself. 12:33 Some of you have been injured by war, 12:35 some of you have been burned and scarred, 12:38 some of you have AIDS, 12:40 some can't see, 12:41 and some have brain damage. 12:43 This new hometown is for us, 12:46 is for everybody who's ever been hurt, 12:49 in any way at all. 12:50 And that's everyone! 12:53 Jesus wants us to live there with him 12:55 and have millions of good old days that will never end. 12:59 Boy, I want that too! 13:01 And it just won't be the same without you! 13:05 You can just do like I did 13:07 when I found out about Jesus 13:08 and the new hometown He's making. 13:10 I just told Him I wanted to be there, 13:13 and to please help me find the way. 13:16 Then I learned all I could about Jesus and His Father 13:19 by reading the Bible. 13:21 And asking Jesus everyday 13:23 to make my heart over again. 13:25 To make it like His. 13:26 It's easy to do if you really mean it, 13:29 because Jesus always answers this prayer, 13:31 and He will help you. 13:34 Plus, Jesus does all the things we can't do. 13:37 He knows exactly what to do. 13:40 Just trust Him. 13:42 Could I pray for you right now? 13:44 I love you so much and I want us to have 13:47 the same hometown in Heaven. 13:49 Dear Jesus, 13:50 We want to come and live in that new hometown with You. 13:54 Would You come into our hearts and make us over, 13:56 and take us home, to live with you? 13:59 Amen. 14:01 I've so much more to tell you, 14:02 but our time is gone again for today. 14:06 Remember, wherever you are, 14:08 let's stay close in heart. 14:10 You are very precious to me. 14:12 You are my beautiful grandchild 14:15 and I just love you. 14:19 When I was a little girl we actually had to use one of these 14:23 It was bad in the winter time, 'cause it was cold. 14:26 But in the summer time, it was really bad 14:28 because there were flies, 14:32 and the smell and the wasps, sometimes... 14:35 You know the thing I was scared of the most, 14:37 this will gross you out, 14:38 I was always afraid there was a snake down in there. 14:42 Yeah, you never knew what was gonna be in the outhouse. |
