00:01 Welcome to grandma's house!
00:03 The time we spent together is one grandma's attempt
00:06 to love and bless in Jesus name.
00:08 The kids to see are not real actors, just real kids
00:11 in a real neighborhood like any other they are
00:14 the joy of my life.
00:15 Especially when I see the little seeds I plant begin to sprout.
00:19 If you have an empty place in your heart please stay.
00:22 Spent a little time at grandma's house.
00:41 What you got - it's like agate, it's one that's been in
00:45 a creek for while because it smooth.
00:47 I've got some in here that are pretty rough.
00:50 That's - oh wow look at, the kids are here - Hi!
00:53 Hi! so glad you guys decided to join us.
00:56 Michael and I are here going over some treasures.
01:00 We invite you to come and look at some of our treasures.
01:02 What have we got down here Michael, show them one.
01:05 This one! that one! Why do you like that one best?
01:09 It's kind of rugged and on the sides it's like all smooth.
01:13 I like that one too!
01:15 But this one is my favorite, look at it.
01:17 It's got, sort of looks like a tooth and it's got all
01:20 those layers in there.
01:22 That's cool - going around and around.
01:24 Look at that, anyway that's one of my favorites,
01:27 I love the odd shape.
01:28 There is all kinds in here and I got
01:30 them from all different places.
01:31 Cool! - Yeah! - Do you collect treasures yourself?
01:34 Yeah! I collect coins and all that stuff.
01:39 Do you, yeah!
01:41 Well, were do you keep your treasures?
01:43 Ah, at home safe.
01:45 Safely at home!
01:46 Well do you know what I have always wondered about?
01:49 I wondered about things like, what do boys
01:52 keep in their pockets?
01:54 Do you have anything in your pockets right now - yeah!
01:55 Are you willing to show me - okay!
01:57 Alright let me see what it is.
01:58 It's a broken bottle - broken glass - yeah!
02:04 It's beautiful - I was walking down the street and
02:08 under a big cup there was a whole bunch of broken glass.
02:12 Well lucky you, what else do you have in your pocket?
02:17 Lets see, I've got a battery - ooh that is cool.
02:22 Does it work - no clue - no clue.
02:24 But it is just in case, right?
02:26 Yeah - it's awesome - I've got this little guy I'm
02:31 borrowing from Alex - it's like your Buddy - yeah.
02:35 Yeah cool, what else - I've got a sand dollar.
02:39 I wish I had a few more those.
02:41 When I go to the beach it seems most of the same dollars
02:44 are more like 50 cent pieces, they are all broken.
02:46 I found a whole bunch at San Diego.
02:49 At San Diego - yeah!
02:50 Well I guess I'm going to have to San Diego.
02:53 Um some baby pinecones - oh those are beautiful.
02:57 I love those because they are perfect miniatures
03:01 of the big ones.
03:02 Yeah and you can put them in like a vase and stuff.
03:05 Yeah awesome, got any more treasures?
03:09 I've got a rusty old nail.
03:10 I think that has got to be my favorite so far,
03:13 do you remember where you found that?
03:15 Yeah I found it in an abandoned farm.
03:17 It's got be an antique.
03:20 This is my favorite out of all of them.
03:24 And what is that?
03:25 It's the perfect skipping stone - so it is.
03:28 Have you tried it out yet?
03:30 No, just waiting g for the right moment.
03:33 Right moment, whoa.
03:35 Will you know sometimes I keep stuff in my pockets too.
03:38 Really - yeah, but sometimes it's not too interesting.
03:41 Like what do you have?
03:42 What do I have well, in my pocket I don't have much.
03:48 I have an old crumpled up poem.
03:51 And I have way on the bottom, let me see.
03:55 I've got some fuzz - fuzz - fuzz, think that's weird
04:00 to have in your pocket?
04:01 Well not really - not really!
04:03 Well I know a lady that does nothing but collect fuzz.
04:06 She has a whole board with all differed colors and kinds of
04:08 fuzz all over it.
04:09 That's weird - it is weird.
04:12 Tell you what you can find more weird stuff down the
04:16 creek, do you want to go?
04:18 Okay - alright I think I'll turn on our rock tumbler before I go.
04:21 I've got some rocks in here that actually start out like
04:24 this, they are pretty rough, I find them in the garden.
04:27 After I polish them a while, they start looking like
04:31 this, you know they look pretty good.
04:33 Except there's a little black on it - that's right.
04:36 There is still some flaws in there - so I put them back
04:38 in the tumbler and it takes weeks and weeks, I let it run.
04:41 And then we put some polish in there and that puts the
04:45 finishing touch on it.
04:46 So it's like you wait for perfection!
04:48 You have got it Michael my boy.
04:51 Let's plug it in and head for the creek.
04:53 Roll up your pant legs, here we go.
05:35 Hey he must be two inches long.
06:17 Haven't we had so much fun today - yeah!
06:19 We have found a lot of treasure down in the creek.
06:22 All kinds of strange and wonderful things.
06:25 I bet you can't guess what we found?
06:27 What was the weirdest thing we found Michael?
06:30 Crawdads - crawdads Yep!
06:33 We found some crawdads, why don't we show them.
06:35 What have you got, have one in there?
06:38 Well I think - oh it's so cute, look at him go.
06:43 His name is Escardo - Escardo, what a name.
06:48 And we got this one, he jumped in our net.
06:52 Yeah! That's the first time that's ever happened to me.
06:55 Usually I go splashing through the creek trying to find
06:57 them, I get in the way.
06:59 We have another one, is this the feisty one - yes.
07:03 Yes! - that's the feisty one, baby one is right here!
07:08 His name is shrimp - oh shrimp, isn't he sweet!
07:12 Look at the size of his tiny little pinchers.
07:15 You know if you'll hold him there I will show you on
07:18 this one, let's pick up this medium sized guy we've got.
07:22 See the pinchers on this guys feet, hold him up from behind.
07:25 Look at the pinchers even, his smallest pinchers on this guy,
07:29 he has them on every leg.
07:30 That, did you see that, look at him he likes to flip
07:34 his tail when he's trying to go to swim in the water.
07:37 He's going to get you - yeah!
07:39 But even his smaller pinchers are bigger than this guys.
07:43 This one, if you get pinched you pretty much can't even
07:48 feel it - that's good.
07:49 Then there is another old guy here.
07:51 I think this must be old man of the river.
07:54 Look at that! He's got long eyebrows, isn't he cute?
08:00 What I like about this one, look at his claws.
08:03 Put this one up for you.
08:04 One claw is much, much bigger than the other one.
08:09 The mighty conquering hero, that is because he got in a
08:12 fight at one point.
08:13 At some point he lost one of his claws, and this one
08:18 kept on growing, but this one had to grow from scratch.
08:22 He had a growing new in here so that ones smaller.
08:24 But he has certainly an interesting life.
08:27 Michael we have had such a ball today - yeah!
08:30 Why don't we take these crawled dads down, and why don't
08:32 you let them go because we want to catch them again another day.
08:34 Okay - while you're doing that, I'm going to talk to
08:38 kids at home and have them write down my address again.
08:41 Because I would love to find out about your treasures.
08:44 I would love to know all about your life.
08:46 I would like to know what kind of things do you collect.
08:49 What do you have in your pockets right now?
08:51 I wish you could write to me and tell me all about it.
08:54 It's just a thrill to me when I get the mail.
08:56 So if you have your pencil and paper ready here's my address.
09:05 Hey kids grandma Neil would love to hear from you.
09:08 She loves to get pictures, drawings and anything else
09:11 you may want to send her.
09:12 She also answers each one of your letters so get your
09:14 pen ready and write down her address.
09:50 Wasn't that crawdad with the tiny claws a real treasure?
09:53 I have all kinds of treasured things in my house too.
09:57 Let me tell you about some of them.
09:59 I love to make quilts.
10:01 For a long time I only made baby quilts because we were
10:04 getting lots of grandbabies born into our family.
10:07 This is one I made for Kristin.
10:10 It took a long time to design it put it together, do all the
10:14 embroidery, then sew on all the beads, ribbons, and pearls.
10:19 And then to sew on all these tiny stitches.
10:22 Quilts are a lot of work, but I like things
10:26 that take a lot of effort.
10:27 It gives me a real sense of satisfaction when it is all done
10:31 I've made some big quilts for beds and some other
10:35 smaller ones to hang on the wall.
10:37 Like this one with all the vests on it.
10:39 It has some different and special on each vest.
10:43 Sometimes I even enter my quilts in contests,
10:46 and I go to the fair.
10:48 And guess what, sometimes I win.
10:51 I love little glass baskets too.
10:53 Usually grandpa buys me one for my birthday.
10:57 Once in a while I'll buy one for myself, just to remind me
11:02 of the special place he and I have been together.
11:04 Don't you love the pretty colors?
11:06 And being small just makes it even prettier.
11:10 Oh and little tea things. I have 2, or 3
11:14 wonderful little tea sets.
11:16 I have some beautiful little tea pots and teaspoons.
11:20 And all kinds of tea things.
11:22 I guess I just really like little things.
11:26 Now you know about my stuff, I want to know about your stuff.
11:31 Write and tell me about your treasures and the
11:34 things you collect.
11:35 You can draw pictures and tell me why they're so
11:38 important to you, I would really like to know.
11:40 But before you have to go today look straight into my
11:44 eyes, remember this of all my treasures
11:48 you are the most valuable.
11:51 My grandchildren are scattered all over the world.
11:54 Your like hidden treasure just like the agate
11:57 scattered in the creek.
11:58 Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like treasure
12:02 hidden in a field.
12:03 He's talking about you, you know.
12:06 You are His treasures, and you are what makes up His kingdom.
12:10 I'm part of it too.
12:12 Jesus calls us His special treasures.
12:15 He calls us jewels, like diamonds and rubies and emeralds
12:19 Just think us, were valuable, we are lovable.
12:24 Never forget how precious you are to God and to me.
12:28 You might feel like plain old rock buried in the dirt.
12:32 That you have no real value and no one sees you anyway.
12:37 Just like the agates I find out in the garden, they don't
12:41 look like much love when I dig them up at first.
12:43 They are all encrusted with dirt and they are really
12:45 rough on the outside.
12:46 You can't see the real gem inside until you
12:51 put in the rock tumbler.
12:52 In the grip rubs off all the sharp edges.
12:55 Sometimes God has to do that with His gems too.
12:58 But remember these two things, God made you and He said
13:03 you are the most valuable of everything He ever made.
13:07 2. God knows exactly where you are.
13:11 Sometimes God hides His treasures to protect them from
13:15 other people who might harm them in some way
13:17 or try to steal them away.
13:19 Nobody around you might recognize that you are a real
13:24 gem, but that doesn't mean you aren't one.
13:26 The real you is inside of you.
13:29 And nobody can change your value.
13:32 God and I think you are a real treasure.
13:35 Do you know where I keep my real treasures, I keep them
13:39 real close to my heart and that's where you belong.
13:43 Be sure to come back and see me again real soon won't you?
13:47 I love you so very much.
