00:02 Welcome to Grandma's House.
00:03 The time we spend together is one grandma's attempt
00:06 to love and bless in Jesus name.
00:08 The kids you see are not actors.
00:10 Just real kids in a real neighborhood.
00:12 Like any other they are the joy of my life.
00:15 Especially when I see the little seeds I plant begin to sprout.
00:19 If you have an empty place in your heart, please stay.
00:22 Spend a little time at Grandma's house.
00:37 This is grandma's house.
00:40 I'm so glad you came over today.
00:43 This is grandpa Stew
00:44 Ha Ha, and we are learning, we hope, to ride this bicycle
00:49 built for two.
00:51 We've never done it before.
00:52 No! Heh Heh! Grandpa is not entirely sure about this thing,
00:56 but we are going to give it a shot.
00:57 And if we can learn to ride it, we're going over to see somebody
01:00 and invite some kids to go with us.
01:02 Well come on! Let's go!
01:04 Put your foot on.
01:05 Ready!
01:42 Oh I don't think this is going to work!
01:44 What do you think? Nope! No way!
01:46 Well I'll tell you what, if you will take this one back
01:48 to the house I think I'll get on my regular bike.
01:51 It's a deal! It's a deal! Alright
01:52 If you're still alive, Okay.
01:54 I think I am going to head over to Truman's barn, come on guys.
02:00 Ohhhh, so much better.
02:16 Hi, Hi!
02:25 Heh, you want to come ride with me?
02:27 Yeah sure!
02:29 Come ride, come on.
02:30 Come on you slow pokes.
02:32 Can't catch me!
02:36 Heh you guys, you're eating my dust, come on!
02:52 Heh grandpa Truman!
02:53 Come on out here, got some people here I want you to meet.
02:57 Well Heh!
02:58 Come on out!
03:00 What cha guys been doing?
03:02 Well I have been messing around with some my old bicycles.
03:05 And I'm glad these guys came out to see them.
03:08 Cool, look at these bikes guys.
03:10 Some of them are pretty rare.
03:11 Look at that!
03:13 Cool, there's no tires.
03:16 That's right it has a special tire.
03:18 Well tell us about them.
03:21 Okay, the tires for this one, now how old do you think
03:25 that bicycle is?
03:27 50, A hundred?
03:29 A little more than that.
03:32 Wow! Eighty-two hundred?
03:34 No how about 1880?
03:36 Ohhhhh!
03:38 That's older than you and me put together.
03:39 Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
03:42 You asked about the tire, and it's laying right here.
03:45 Does it look like any tire you ever saw?
03:48 Like a piece of hose!
03:49 And it goes around like this.
03:52 And there's a wire that went through it.
03:55 You tighten up the wire and that was a bicycle tire
03:58 in 1880 or 1890.
04:00 That's before cars.
04:03 Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
04:06 You've seen those ones with the
04:07 big high will and a little tiny wheel?
04:09 Yeah!
04:10 Well that's about the same time.
04:11 That those were invented.
04:12 Now this, in my hand, that's a bicycle wheel,
04:16 but what's it made out of?
04:19 Wood, it's made out of wood.
04:23 Wood! That's made out of a piece of ash or oak.
04:28 And the tire on that, I can show you that.
04:33 Over here on this bicycle.
04:35 See that back tire?
04:37 Okay that went around here, but it didn't have an inter tube.
04:41 And they glued that on and then they blew up the tires.
04:46 And then they hoped the glue held together.
04:48 Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
04:50 So what would happen, would it ever go flat?
04:53 Oh yeah, they had lots of problems with that.
04:55 Then they'd have to unglue it?
04:56 Sometimes! Probably heat it up or melt it off with hot water.
05:01 Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
05:03 Now that bicycle over there with that tire, that's was
05:06 roughly, ahhh-1920.
05:11 What about the brake?
05:13 The brake, that has one of the very first coaster brakes
05:17 that were invented.
05:18 Now, this one by the door, I think that bike was around
05:24 around, 1900.
05:26 1900?
05:28 Yeah you see this use to have a bell on it.
05:30 And these handles were made of cork.
05:33 Boy not much left is there?
05:37 No, but it is still there.
05:38 Pretty cool bikes huh?
05:41 I bet you haven't seen any like those?
05:44 Now this bicycle, it's a new one.
05:49 New one huh! Yeah!
05:52 That's only about 60 or 65 years old.
05:54 Still wet behind the ears!
05:58 Just almost brand new.
06:00 But that one was made and sold by Montgomery Ward.
06:05 Out of the catalog?
06:07 I think so, Yeah, and this was a deluxe bicycle.
06:10 It probably cost $50.00.
06:12 I don't know if you know what a Carbide lamp is?
06:15 But they didn't have electric lamps when this was made.
06:18 And this was something like a coal miners lamp.
06:22 You seen pictures of those?
06:24 Well that's what on here, it had a reflector.
06:26 Oh cool!
06:28 And you put this chemical in the bottom of it
06:30 And water dripped down through and that formed a gas
06:33 Then you light the gas.
06:35 That's how car lights used to be too.
06:38 How come it has this on it?
06:40 This, why it is to make it ride smoother.
06:42 You see this when you hit a bump, then this spring would
06:47 spring and that was suppose to make it
06:48 ride a little bit smoother.
06:50 Like when the front wheel of the car goes up and down
06:52 when you hit a bump.
06:54 Kind of the same idea.
06:55 Oh I think these are really cool bikes.
06:57 Wow, I sure had fun today.
07:00 Whatcha think about the bikes boys?
07:01 Aren't these cool? Yeah!
07:05 Hey Truman, one more thing before we go,
07:07 Okay!
07:08 You've gotta fantastic dog that does a special trick.
07:11 Can you show these boys?
07:12 What an all American tree-climber does?
07:15 That's exactly right.
07:16 Okay! Tree-climbing dog.
07:18 Here Jill, go get into the tree for the boys.
07:21 Get in the tree!
07:22 There she goes.
07:23 Go get into the tree.
07:25 Good girl, that's my tree-climber.
07:29 Yeah,
07:32 I think I'll give you a head start.
07:34 Okay!
07:35 Think you can beat me back to grandma's house?
07:37 Yeah! Catch our dirt.
07:38 Catch your dirt?
07:39 Oh what a challenge!
07:41 Alright I'll give you a head start and I'll catch up later.
07:44 They think they can beat me, they haven't got a chance.
07:48 Hey kids, I'm going to take out after them in a second,
07:51 butcha know what?
07:52 Before I do, I want you to get a piece of paper
07:55 and pencil ready, and I want you to write down my address.
07:58 Cause I'd love hearing from ya.
08:00 So here it is.
08:02 I'm out of here.
08:03 He kids, grandma Neil would love to hear from you.
08:06 She loves to get pictures, drawings and anything else
08:09 you may want to send her.
08:10 She also answers each one of your letters so get your pen
08:13 ready and write down her address.
08:15 Okay? If you want to write her a letter address it to:
08:32 Grandma also loves to get emails at:
08:44 Here we are just you and me together
08:47 for our heart to heart time.
08:49 This is the best part of the day for me.
08:51 I hope you like these quiet minutes we have at
08:54 the end of our visits as much as I do.
08:55 I've been thinking about wheels all day.
08:59 And more than just wheels, but related things
09:01 like rings and circles.
09:03 I like some circles better than others.
09:05 And I'm sure you do too.
09:07 I like bicycle tires and Yo-Yo's and rings around the moon.
09:12 I love circles and waves after you through a pebble
09:15 in the pond.
09:16 I wonder, what are your favorites?
09:18 I'll let you in on a little secret.
09:21 The circles I like best are the ones you can't actually see.
09:25 But you can tell where they've been and where they are now.
09:29 And you can even guess where it might go next.
09:31 Have you ever heard the song about a boy who drew a small
09:37 circle around himself?
09:38 It was so small there wasn't room for
09:41 anyone else in his circle.
09:42 He put up a wall all around his heart
09:44 so nobody could hurt him.
09:46 But then no one could love him either.
09:48 Since he wouldn't let anyone inside to love him,
09:52 he just got lonelier and angrier and hurt all the more.
09:57 But nearby somebody else was busy drawing circles too.
10:02 When she realized she was lonely,
10:04 she drew a big circle around herself
10:07 and she invited God inside.
10:09 They talked and laughed
10:12 and the girl learned that God is a
10:14 very loyal friend.
10:16 Well this gave her courage to draw
10:18 a bigger circle.
10:19 Big enough for more people.
10:21 One day she looked up and she saw
10:24 that her circle had grown so big
10:26 that it bumped right up against the circle
10:28 of the boy who was sad, and angry.
10:31 She really wanted to be friends and help him but,
10:34 He just glared at her over the top of his wall.
10:37 She didn't know what to do.
10:39 So God bent over and whispered something in her ear.
10:43 Shhhhh, like that!
10:45 When she heard the secret she laughed to herself
10:48 and she started drawing another circle.
10:51 It was an even bigger circle.
10:53 She drew it so big that the hurting boy
10:56 was inside of it.
10:57 It wasn't easy at first, it took some time to
11:01 for the boy took even part of his wall down.
11:04 But he got curious.
11:05 And pretty soon he had a whole big circle of friends.
11:08 Then he started drawing really big circles around
11:12 other lonely people.
11:13 This is just what happened to me.
11:17 I didn't realize God was in my circle at first.
11:20 But one day when I really needed a friend,
11:24 I noticed He was there.
11:25 After a while I felt better,
11:29 and I drew a bigger circle.
11:30 And then a bigger one.
11:31 Now my circle has been drawn around you!
11:35 Every time my circle gets bigger,
11:38 I get happier.
11:39 Everybody in my circle gets happier.
11:42 And we all laugh with God as our group hub just
11:45 gets bigger and bigger.
11:47 We all get closer together.
11:49 And we love each other more.
11:50 And the best part is, God is right in the
11:54 middle of our circle.
11:56 In fact, I think I can see a happy tear in His eyes.
12:00 Has He welcomed you home to His heart?
12:02 He has wanted you for so long,
12:05 and His circle is a very good place to be.
12:08 I'm sorry I have to say goodbye now.
12:13 But I'll have sweet dreams just knowing that God and I
12:17 have drawn a beautiful circle that takes you in.
12:20 Now it is your turn to draw a circle around God
12:23 and someone else who needs a true friend.
12:26 I can't wait for you to write and tell me who
12:28 your new friend is.
12:29 And all about how you drew a circle of love
12:32 to take them in.
12:33 Never forget how much God and I love you!
12:38 You are very precious to us.
12:40 Till the next time, bye!
