00:01 Hello there, I created Grandma's house so I could be
00:04 a loving Christian Grandma to every child I meet. 00:07 You're going to meet some real kids who come every 00:10 week for love and Christian mentoring. 00:12 Many of them are hearing about Jesus for the first time. 00:16 My hope and prayer is that you will be inspired to open 00:19 your arms and heart to your neighborhood children. 00:22 Welcome to Grandma's House. 00:43 Hi there you beautiful grandkids. 00:45 I'd like you to come in here and meet 4 of 00:47 of my other beautiful granddaughters. 00:49 The one on this end is Tessa. 00:51 This is Samantha, this is Katie, 00:55 And this is truly Natasha. 00:57 I'm so glad to have them there today and I'm so glad 01:01 you guys came to join us. 01:02 I asked them to come over today because we want to get 01:06 some fun in the garden, where the flowers are, 01:09 before the winter and fall come. 01:11 The flowers are starting to fade, but it's still so much fun 01:15 I wanted to tell them too, talk a little bit about flowers, 01:19 and the colors and the shapes. 01:21 Do you know who Solomon was? 01:23 In the Bible! 01:24 Kat who was he? 01:25 A great king! 01:26 That's right, he was a great king. 01:27 What kind of things do kings wear? 01:29 Crowns and a robe thing. 01:35 Right! Do you think they are rich clothes? 01:37 Rich clothes. 01:39 Are they work clothes? 01:40 Well the Bible says that even Solomon in all his rich 01:45 magnificent robes and his crown was not as beautiful 01:49 and arrayed as magnificently as the flowers out in the field. 01:52 In fact, he says it is not as beautiful as the 01:55 lilies in the field. 01:57 These are awfully beautiful. 02:00 Look at this! 02:02 You guys can each take one. 02:03 I want to show them too, one of the fun things we do 02:07 with these flowers, they're called Holly Hocks. 02:10 Now you might have flowers at your home that are shaped 02:13 something like this, they need to be kind of flat, ruffly 02:16 on the bottom. 02:17 They kind of sit up like that on the palm of your hand. 02:20 Guys ready? 02:22 We're going to make floating ladies to put in this little 02:25 thing of water to make a wonderful table decoration. 02:29 And for the top of the lady, this is like her skirt. 02:32 If you have, oh some of these have a little piece of stem 02:38 on them, so you want to take the piece of stem off. 02:41 We pretend like this is the skirt, and these are the 02:47 beautiful bonnets that the ladies wear. 02:50 You take the end off of that, and now how are you going to 02:55 get them to stick together you think? 02:56 With a pin? 02:57 With a pin, Yep! 02:59 We've got some long straight pins here. 03:01 You put it down right straight sideways, through the little 03:05 bonnet, can you see that? 03:06 There's a little bit of pin sticking out 03:09 you put that right down like that and then you put her 03:15 in the water 03:17 A little front heavy isn't she? 03:20 She wants to bow into the water. 03:22 But that's how they go. 03:23 And maybe so, why don't you try one? 03:25 And maybe you put the bonnet a little further to the back. 03:27 It might float better. 03:28 Let's see, let's try that out. 03:32 But when you are having a nice dinner party, or you want to 03:34 fix something really special, 03:35 for your Mom and Dad. 03:36 Maybe make a, did you ever serve them breakfast in bed? 03:39 You should think about doing that sometimes. 03:41 This would be a nice little thing to put on their 03:44 breakfast tray or on the dinner table to make 03:45 everybody happy. 03:47 What do you think? 03:49 AH! That's beautiful Tessa. 03:50 Let's put in there and see how it looks. 03:52 Oh! Her's floats really great. 03:55 Oh aren't these beautiful floating ladies? 03:57 You guys like those? 03:59 Yeah! 04:00 Can you remember how to do them for your folks sometime? 04:01 Yes! Yes! Okay! 04:02 It was easy. 04:04 Good, well then while we go out in the garden you know 04:06 I have one kind of Lily out there, I have Snap Dragons and 04:09 Asters, all kinds of things. 04:10 But see who can find the lily! Ok? 04:14 Okay, let's head out to the garden. 04:15 Let's go, come on guys, 04:17 you come with, us it's going to be fun. 04:30 See these pods? Aren't those the coolest things? 04:32 I found a lily! 05:04 Ah well we finished our flower gathering for today. 05:07 Aren't they beautiful? 05:09 Take a look, guys show the kids at home your flowers. 05:12 Lots of different kinds. 05:14 One kind we found that I really really like is the Snap Dragon. 05:18 This is what they look like on the stem. 05:20 Lots of little flowers going up a stock. 05:24 But what's cool about these is if you take one off, 05:26 and you pinch it, right behind his cheeks, 05:29 zoom, it's mouth opens up. 05:32 My Grandma told that this was what a dragon looks 05:36 like when he opens his mouth, and he likes 05:38 to bite little fingers. 05:39 So she had me put it on my finger when I was 05:42 about 3 and 1/2 years old. 05:43 I loved it, I thought that was so fascinating. 05:47 He's even got teeth in there, if you look really close, 05:50 it really does look like a dragon's mouth. 05:52 Well we brought all these flowers up for a purpose 05:55 We like to do things, especially for elder folks, 05:59 our grandma's and grandpa's. 06:01 Maybe other people that live in the neighborhood. 06:03 Sometime they are shut in and don't get out as 06:06 often as they'd like to. 06:07 But it really cheers them up if a child comes over and 06:10 brings them something fun. 06:12 So that is what we are going to do today. 06:14 We're going to learn to make May baskets. 06:16 You guys make May baskets before? 06:18 NO! No! 06:19 This is kind of a quaint custom, it comes from the old days. 06:22 And I use to make them when I was a kid. 06:25 But here what I am going to give you first is a piece 06:28 of paper, I cut out some pretty sheets, 06:30 I just give you each, you can choose which paper you want. 06:33 Choose a piece of paper here that you like, 06:39 Yes, all different kinds. 06:43 Here's a pink one, do you like pink and lavenders? 06:46 Aren't these pretty ones? 06:47 This one is pretty? Oh Yeah! 06:48 Those are my favorite colors. 06:50 Okay! 06:53 Before you start rolling it up we need to find a pretty sticker 06:58 I've got some here that look like butterflies. 07:01 Those will go really well with flowers, don't you think? 07:03 And then I have some other ones here that have promises 07:07 on them, these are wonderful too. 07:09 Especially for somebody who might be a little bit, 07:12 depressed or something. 07:14 Let me show you one of these. 07:15 These have flowers on them and they say GOD IS GOOD! 07:19 GOD IS GRACIOUS! 07:20 GOD IS LOVE, GOD IS GREAT! 07:23 So that just takes our whole theme of flowers and God 07:26 together with, to help cheer the old folks up. 07:29 So everybody got a sticker that you like? 07:31 Need to pick out one and get ready to use it on your paper. 07:37 Let's see, I think I like the one that says, GOD IS GRACIOUS! 07:41 That's my favorite. 07:43 Can I use more than one? 07:44 Sure! You can have more than one. 07:46 What I want you to do is take your.., before... Don't put 07:49 your stickers on yet! 07:50 What we want to do is make a little cone, 07:52 to hold some flowers, you just kind of fold it over. 07:55 Let's see, let's make it go kind of like that, 07:58 wrap one side over the other. 08:00 Like that! And then we put the sticker on it. 08:05 Like this to hold the paper shut. 08:09 We'll put some of our prettiest flowers in there. 08:12 What are the prettiest ones you got? 08:14 Well you know I like these. 08:16 We'll put some of those down in the paper. 08:18 I like white ones. 08:21 Yeah, well let's put a purple one in, we have 08:23 to put a purple one in. 08:24 Maybe not so long, teeth are good for more than one thing, 08:29 you know! 08:30 Teeth are good for lots of things. 08:32 Anyway I think that looks pretty good, except, 08:34 well let's put the pink in front. 08:36 Cause pink is my favorite color. 08:38 And maybe some greenery, can I borrow this? 08:41 Yeap! 08:42 Little bit of green in here would look really nice. 08:44 The last thing you need to do is punch a hole back here. 08:50 One the back side. 08:51 Like that! 08:53 And that's a place to thread a little piece of ribbon through 08:56 so you can hang it up. 08:58 Isn't that cute? 08:59 Almost anybody would like to find this on their door. 09:02 Well you know what? 09:04 While I am finishing up with the girls here, it's a perfect 09:07 time for you to write down my address. 09:09 I've had a blast today, so if your ready, I'm ready too. 09:14 Here's my address. 10:03 Another busy and fun day is gone, but this is still the best 10:07 part of the day. 10:08 The time I spend with only you. 10:10 And talk heart to heart. 10:12 I loved making the Snap Dragons snap and the Hollyhocks 10:16 and the floating ladies today. 10:17 It reminded me about my grandma. 10:20 She is the one who first showed me Snap Dragons 10:23 when I was really young. 10:25 It happened like this. 10:26 Grandma taught me to sing a little song that she loved. 10:30 She liked to sing about Jesus. 10:32 She was such a sweet Grandma and I felt 10:35 so important in her eyes. 10:36 Went she smiled at me she just smiled all over. 10:40 I tried really hard to learn it just right, 10:43 and when I could sing it all the way through, 10:45 without forgetting the words, 10:47 she said she wanted me to sing it to some old people 10:50 in a nursing home. 10:51 I was scared, but she went with me. 10:54 And that made it better. 10:56 But I was still scared. 10:58 When we got out of the car, my stomach was all fluttery. 11:02 Grandma must have known that, because she showed me some 11:06 flowers along the pathway. 11:07 She picked one and she told me it was a Snap Dragon. 11:11 Then she showed me how it's mouth worked and 11:14 made it snap on my finger. 11:16 I was enthralled, that was the most fascinating thing 11:20 I'd seen yet. 11:21 It helped me to be less nervous when I sang too. 11:24 I'd like to sing the Snap Dragon song to you because 11:28 now I'm the Grandma, and you are the beloved grandchild. 11:32 I don't sing very well out loud, but you won't mind 11:36 if my voice is cracked or squeaky will you? 11:38 The real name for this song is I Will Early Seek The Savior. 11:45 I will early seek the Savior, I will learn of Him each day. 11:54 I will follow where He leads me, I will walk the narrow way. 12:02 For He loves me, Yes He loves me, 12:07 Jesus loves me this I know. 12:11 Jesus loves me, died to save me, that is why I love Him so. 12:21 Now almost sixty years later, I understand why Grandma 12:26 wanted me to know, and to remember that song. 12:29 And I am going to tell you a secret. 12:31 The reason I love being your Grandma, is so I can help you 12:35 get to know Jesus better. 12:37 So I can show you how much He loves you. 12:39 I hope you will sing the Snap Dragon song every day. 12:43 And before you know it you will be loving Jesus 12:46 with your whole heart. 12:47 It's time for us to say good-bye now. 12:50 But you remember, you are absolutely wonderful to me. 12:55 and I love you. |
