21:56 together the next few mornings. But first, some context. So came to G Wifey 11
22:07 years ago. My slides here for a second. I came here to I see 11 years ago and that's when I
22:22 became a Christian. Something haven't test or otherwise. I grew up in a something of an
22:29 this home. I grew up with Godly parents and I went to church. But it was something I
22:33 did. Because it's what you do. Not because something that resonated with right believed
22:41 and it was several months in the making. You know, those long decisions where different
22:44 people talk to you and if people asked her questions, but I was like, yeah, OK, can
22:50 information, appreciate it. And that go on my way. But at the Sunday charge of that, you
22:55 I see in 2000, 10 in Baltimore, Maryland, I can't even tell you what the appeal
22:59 was on that Sunday morning. I just remember what my decision was. My decision was Jesus. I
23:06 don't know where you're going to take me. But I surrender to you. I surrender to your love
23:14 that I can no longer explain away. I surrendered your love that I can no longer ask
23:18 questions to sideline. And I except he was my personal Lord and savior. Wherever you want
23:23 to go. And going home was really hard. Now, I want to bring up going home because I
23:33 mean, all going to go home. And it's like, Ali, we just got here for LAX. Going talk
23:36 about that yet. But we are going to go home. We're going to go home to our respective
23:40 churches, our respective communities. And that was really hard for me because
23:44 I've had this mountain top experience with a Jesus that you Wi fi. I went home. And it
23:50 wasn't that mountain top experience. There's nothing wrong with mountaintop
23:55 experiences. They're all throughout scripture and they're good. But sometimes we
24:00 might think that's the only thing that we should experience. And sometimes our
24:05 lows afterwards are so low. And what's I really Fiji sustained, really have that
24:11 experience with him. And so the purpose of these morning devotional time, just
24:17 conversations where the have together is how to have meaningful devotions after G
24:23 White Sea. How to have that walk with God when you're not surrounded by other people who
24:29 harmonize when you sing and who have different Bible verses to share with you, how
24:35 to have that yourself. From being honest with you. Out of. The last 11 years. I would see
24:43 a solid 8 of them. My personal time with God. My morning. Watch my time. A personal
24:49 bible study, whatever we want to call it. Was a source of I was also a lot of times a
24:56 source of anxiety. And ask questions like I prayed long enough. I prefer the person. I
25:03 said going to pray for probably the last 3 months. My reading the right 5 will first
25:08 because I really should for the of the new revelation. But I stood also said he saw I've
25:13 heard Genesis is really good. But you should always read the Gospels, right? But I should
25:16 also be Paul's letters. And I should I something out of this Russian read like the Old
25:21 Testament, you know, so what? What am I supposed to do? And often times that got in the
25:28 way of my personal walk kind, it was. But in the last few years. God has. Taught me some
25:35 things. But I want to share the next few mornings that have really help me have that
25:41 peace and that devotional life. But I believe God wants all of us to have. And so.
25:48 Morning this morning's message. Is called Exposed. And we'll just leave it there
25:58 for now. We'll talk about that for me. So if you go with me in your Bibles to John Chapter
26:03 4. John Chapter 4. While you're making your way, there'll this is the story of
26:11 the woman at the well, one of my favorite stories and all scripture. The chapter opens
26:17 and verse one. is when the Lord new, the pharisees had heard that Jesus made about
26:24 ties more disciples than John. The juice himself did not baptized, but his disciples.
26:27 He left and depart again to Galilee. So where he's gone somewhere else, that's kind of
26:34 it. The numbers for it says, but he needed to go through some area. So Jesus and his
26:43 disciples are going from today at a gala. needs to go through. Some area. This is
26:50 just a side note. But this this meant a lot to me. What I what I learned this and that
26:54 is geographically. Jesus didn't have to go through some area. Most Jews bypassed it
27:03 completely. They went on this side to that dotted line. They're on the right side of
27:08 the green arrows. That's where most whose most self-respecting Jews would go
27:11 that completely bypass an area. So do the things. The goat U.S. through some area
27:15 for another reason than geography. It's from this conversation with the woman at
27:21 the well. So let's let's read a little bit here together. And verse 5. It says. So. He
27:27 came to a city of some area which is called Sidecar near the plot of ground that Jacob
27:31 gave to his son Joseph. Now Joe Jacobs. Well, was their Jesus, therefore being wary
27:37 from his attorney said Best Buy the well. It was about the 6th hour for 7, a woman of
27:43 some area came to draw water. Jesus said to her, give me a tree. First. Disciples have
27:49 gone way into the city to buy food. Jesus is on his way and he stops in some areas, stops
27:58 its of the 6th hour, which in Jewish time wrecking as noon. He's hot because it's noon he
28:02 wants water because it's hot because this noon and he a very simple question. Can I
28:08 give me some water? And in this culture, especially it was your duty to give someone
28:15 water in that situation, especially if someone is asking for it. The story
28:20 communal the strait, giving the spray thinking of others taking care of the traveler.
28:23 That is within your sphere of influence. Very, very common. But the woman at the well.
28:31 Reacts differently to what Jesus says. And verse 9. The woman of some areas said to
28:38 him, how is it that you being a J**? Ask a drink from me. A Samaritan woman for Jews have
28:45 no dealings with Samaritans. Spoiler. Jesus never gets its water. Not the whole
28:55 conversation effect. At the end, she leaves her water. Pot goes back to some areas so no
28:57 waters had for Jesus. That will start this whole conversation. Want to talk for
29:03 second about tone of voice. In the Bible were given things that maybe indicate a tone, a
29:11 voice like this kind of makes sense with this is the way it's spoken. Sometimes it goes
29:14 either way, for example. And Matthew, 23, when Jesus says woe to you, scribes and
29:22 pharisees, you who devour the poor. I've heard too, at least 2 different reckonings of
29:27 that. tone of voice wise one is woe to you. >> and Pharisees you to divest
29:34 like that. >> Woe to you. Scribes and Hugh, who devour the poor? You
29:50 notice how the same exact words, the tone of voice changes and the message
29:53 changes, right? We do that and real-life right. Like yeah, it's fine or it's fine. Right?
30:00 Very, very different messaging there. The tone of voice has a different. We don't have audio
30:06 recordings of the Bible. indications but no audio recordings. So to figure out
30:11 this woman at the wells tone of voice, let's look a little closer. Other things she says
30:14 because she could say how is Thank you being a J**. Ask a treat for Samaritan. What I
30:24 think she sounded like. But let's look closer. So then Jesus in verse 10, we're going
30:29 to go a little bit quickly. That will come back and shortly first, 10 Jesus starts
30:34 talking about living water and she versus haven't served. You have nothing to draw with and
30:39 the well as deep where then you get that living water. Are you greater than our father?
30:45 Jacob, who gave us the well and drink from it himself as well. So something his
30:48 livestock. First 15, sir, give me this water that they may not thirst come here to draw
30:54 first 19, sir. I perceive your profit. Our fathers were shipped on this mountain due
31:00 to say that Jerusalem is the place for one ought to worship. These are snapshots
31:04 of their conversation and I get the sense that. She's not being respectful in her
31:14 conversation with Jesus. It's kind of hard to respectfully say, are you crater that our
31:19 father, Jacob, gave us the swell. It's more of our you greater that. Our father,
31:25 Jacob, who gave us this well, who said his family and his livestock with this or sir.
31:31 The well is deep. And you have nothing to draw So then where did you get this living water?
31:39 That's the kind of sense that that I get her tone of voice here. And at the end of the
31:44 conversation. And verse. 25 26 go there with me. After this conversation of worship, much
31:53 truer ship isn't use clarifies those things. The woman said to him. I know that Messiahs
31:57 coming who was called Christ when he comes, he would tell us all things Jesus said to
32:02 her. I speak to you and 2. I am. He. The whole time. I wonder what went through her
32:11 mind that moment. She's saying all these things like you greater than our father.
32:16 Jacob? Yes. I am. You get this water. I created water. And so at personally site. Talk with
32:29 the moment, the well sometimes. And that moment at I know. I've been talking to
32:37 the side the whole time comfortable. Haha. But, you know, she respond. She drops
32:43 her waterpot. She goes back to some areas. She tells them coming to manage, told me
32:47 everything about her done. If she knew that Jesus was Jesus. The whole conversation. Do you
32:56 think she would have talked to him the same way? She was interesting. Jesus was Jesus
33:04 the whole time. Jesus was Jesus. The whole conversation. Did you notice he never? Like?
33:18 Are you greater than Jay Company couldn't like? Ah, yes. Of course. I would be me.
33:22 I don't need wells. I created the whole Earth. How dare you question me? How do you ask me
33:29 about worship The person you worship? Jesus answered her questions. And this shows we
33:36 something very important about Jesus. And that is Jesus can handle whatever you share.
33:43 However, you share it. Jesus can handle what ever you share. However, you share it.
33:54 I have the sense of sometimes we treat Jesus like a really expensive doll on a really
33:57 expensive shelf. want to have spiritual time. take him down from the shelf. a nice,
34:05 pleasant, spiritual things and they go back over here. We deal with the rest of our
34:08 life. We do with our feelings and our traumas that are difficult situations and our
34:14 work and our study isn't things that are confusing or hard. We over there. We do
34:20 that strict things over here. But Jesus was with her and Jesus was not offended by her.
34:28 Overwhelmed by her scared by her. He's like cool. Let's talk about in fact, let's talk
34:32 about multiple husbands. Let's talk about it all too much for his liking. Adorable. Let's

36:42 money to buy groceries. I didn't have. And a stranger came up to me and said here's
36:45 40 Bucks. Got told me to give it to you. So I know who this got is. And I'm like asked for
36:50 this for months. Why couldn't you just say this? You clearly let me together with this man
36:56 clearly led me back for us. Why are you? I don't like it. And to be honest, I've no idea
37:04 may be assigned to analogy to se but I don't know why. But something about that honest
37:12 conversation and the and just the longer version pain right now of Lord. I don't get it,
37:18 but I trust you. I'm upset. But I trust you. This is what I want. But I trust you and
37:27 super naturally. Yes, of course, my husband here and I'm still sad about him
37:34 leaving, but I'm not angry or resentful. I'm just like you just going to do and I'm along
37:38 for the ride. But that process, even that healing only came in his presence, it
37:46 didn't come over there. I didn't heal myself or convince myself. I'm a trust. Jesus.

37:56 saying Jesus, help me trust you. Jesus is how I feel Jesus. What I need just like,
38:00 let's let's do it. And that supernatural healing comes in communion with Christ not and
38:06 condron it up by yourself. It's not make sense. Please say Amen. Let's continue with
38:13 our story. John. Chapter 4. So Jesus asked for a drink of water. The woman up to well.
38:24 No kind of. Then in verse 10 due this answer and said to her, if you knew the gift of
38:31 God and who it is, who says you give me a drink, you would have asked him and he would
38:35 have given you living water. I love the logistics of first love and the woman said to

41:12 Anyways. So first, 13. Do the fast and said to her clever drinks of this water will
41:18 first again. But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, we'll never
41:23 thirst. But the water that I give him will become an him a fountain of water springing up
41:30 and to everlasting life. First 15 at this point, the woman is either. I don't know,
41:38 sincerely. Give me that water. She's like I fight. Give us water. Whatever. First 15, the
41:44 woman said to him, sir, give me this water that they may not thirst or come here to
41:46 draw. For 16. Just takes a sharp left. Turn. You call your husband and come here.
41:57 The woman says what I would have said. Sir, I have no husband. That's all been
42:03 deeply about And use naturally. For 17. You have well-fed. I have no husband.
42:15 For you've had 5 husbands and the one who you now have is not your husband in that. You
42:19 spoke truly. That expansion on my answer. Yes, interesting, though, is Chief of says what
42:32 he says. But there's no like condemnation and anything that he says. It's like he's
42:36 reading the cyclist, the facts. It is true that you have no husband. You've had 5
42:42 husbands, the person who you live with, not your husband. You're right. She's like Thank
42:48 you for that. And then she takes a left turn, perceive your profit. Let's talk about
42:55 culture and theology. Let's go all the way over here. >> Jesus knew. All these
43:01 things about her. And a few verses later in verse. 26. Jesus said.
43:10 >> You know, I can speak. You have he? I'm the messiah. This woman at the well, this woman
43:14 of some area was one of very few people that got an explicit. Confirmation of who
43:22 Jesus was. She's with sick kind of sideways to some people like parables. Many say
43:25 it to like right people tonight, different places. But he's a true yeah, that's me.
43:36 At this point. Again, after she's been talking to him this way and he knows like all
43:41 these men her life like. Remember how she reacts. She doesn't fall to the ground and
43:49 condemnation I'm the worst. She's like I'm ago. Tell everybody. This is what I
43:55 should ugly. This pop behind and go tell the whole city about this guy that knows
43:59 everything about me. Jesus knew the ins and outs of her life. And he still chose to
44:08 give for such an honor of Dish. Saying who he was. Before. David and I, my
44:18 husband for Dave and I started dating. We have this little in-between stage. And we told
44:25 other we have dramatic feelings for each other. But then before we started dating
44:29 in this in-between time, everyone to talk to mentors like, are we crazy? Is this a
44:32 good idea? What do think? And we also want to have some difficult conversations. And I
44:41 can tell you my goals for those conversations were I knew. That if there were
44:47 certain things I didn't tell David. If he were to say things like really, really
44:53 like you or I love you. And if he didn't know those things in my head, I would say sure you
45:00 do because you don't know this. That's cute. Because you don't know that. And so my
45:09 purpose in those conversations was to get rid of all of those. So David were to say, I
45:14 love you. I feel like, well, he has informed consent on that. You know what he's
45:17 saying? He knows. And I believe in a way this is something that Jesus was doing
45:25 in this conversation. You don't have to hide. I know why you're here in the middle of
45:31 the day. It should have really earlier for the late with all the other women. I know why
45:35 you're here. I know what you've done. I know the details. I'm still here. I
45:42 know all of it. You enough to say it. You can just say your little short answer all to
45:47 make it clear to you that I'm aware of all the other details. And I'm still going
45:53 to sit here and talk to you about worship. I'm still going to reveal to you myself as the
45:56 Messiah after Jesus said. What he said about all the husbands. She makes her left
46:08 turn. And she's goes along with it right serve, receive your profit. Our fathers were
46:16 shut on this mountain. Let's talk about it's kind of like someone being like, hey. I
46:20 want to talk to you about. It's really dark thing in your life. You like cool. Yeah.
46:25 What's your stance on vaccine mandates. Let's talk about that. that let's take a really
46:30 sharp left turn talk a little bit controversial. I wonder what would have happened. She
46:39 would have shared. More about that in her life to Jesus. At that moment. I wonder would
46:47 have happened if instead of she her bringing up a controversial point, if she
46:48 would have said. I'm really ashamed. I feel really judged and I don't feel like I know
47:01 what to do anymore. Kuz. I so far. Con right. Like this happened 5 times. Let's a lot
47:05 and I don't want to do. I wonder would have happened if she would have leaned into the
47:13 painful in the difficult for the running away from it. And I wonder what would happen for
47:18 us if we did that, too. I wonder what would happen if and our devotional life in our
47:24 prayer time. If we came to Jesus or like Lord. I have a really hard time relationship
47:33 with my mom. She really hurt my feelings a lot. Lord. I have a really hard time with
47:41 this passage. And the whole testament like I don't get it like I could by faith. But
47:46 like. To look like a j***. And I don't really know how to reconcile that.
47:52 >> Lord, I. I have these really scary desires. I don't know what to do with and I
48:00 feel like if I were to tell somebody. Howard P ostracized from everybody that I know.
48:07 But I don't want to deal with it. I don't feel like I have any friends. Like I I don't
48:17 have friends. And that feels really lonely. Sometimes when I get so angry, I just say the
48:28 most should most terrible things. And I know I should have like I don't how to stop
48:33 doing that. Just to look at the part of me at this point, just lamb. But like I want to
48:37 be that So how do I not be that person? That thing that happened to be when I was 7.
48:46 What I do with that. But even watch that. A lot of have this habit for 15 years at this
48:55 point. So clearly it's not going anywhere, but I don't really know to do with that.
49:03 Sometimes I like hanging out with you. Their Bible study is just I know I shouldn't. Mike
49:09 a girl Cali at us. He was like this is important. And so like I'm here. Not really feeling
49:13 it. These are the kinds of things we can talk us about and that thing that the holy
49:25 spirit of saying to you right now that I didn't say it includes that too. Whatever it
49:29 is. should lean into the difficult. And the painful with Jesus. He's not expensive
49:39 doll on expensive shelf. That's not a thing. He's the king of the universe. And he's
49:47 able to handle anything that we give him. I don't know. What the state of your
49:56 personal devotional life is, whether you're like, yeah, but having to vote every day for 8
49:59 years from. I like you keep using the word devotion alive. I don't what that means. Or I
50:06 thing I devotions. A month ago, was it? The purpose of devotions isn't to fulfill a
50:18 checklist or to do your Christian duty for the day or even to get got to like you
50:22 because we already does. One of the purposes of a devotional life is to be
50:31 exposed and Jesus, his presence. And I can't explain to logistics person myself. I
50:36 can explain to you why heels you additional I can't tell you why you're like why. But
50:43 like Jesus already knows this. I know. Isn't it crazy? How to say that any ways helps? I
50:46 don't know. But got know he does. There's something supernatural, this exchange in
50:55 this relationship with Christ where you're talking to him and your voluntarily sharing
51:02 your heart, your voluntarily sharing your fears, your voluntarily sharing your
51:07 questions. And that is healing. Because you realize this God of the universe who
51:17 created everything and who loves everyone. He loves you. And he knows you. He knows
51:24 about that thing. The fog on the very edge of your consciousness. You're like
51:26 I've never told anybody about that. Yeah, God knows. That question that you're like, I'm
51:32 a leader. But like I really go understand this fundamental belief. I actually agree with
51:37 it. Just those that too. Jesus knows about your your your questions, your desires, your
51:44 bad ways of acting. When you're angry. Just notes. And he still. Still so much wants
51:52 to commune with you and talk with you. At the well, if your life. I think it was a
52:00 blessing to that woman to not know she was talking to Jesus most of the time. Because I
52:08 think that allowed her to be her authentic self. I think that allowed her to After
52:15 questions maker accusations and just like cool. Let's do it. It didn't scare him a
52:19 scare him. Now. Your questions or accusations, you don't schedules He's just like I'm
52:25 happy to talk. Let's talk about right now. To recap the things that we've covered
52:35 together. exposed, it's hard and it's painful. But with Jesus. It is healing 100 per
52:49 cent of the time. Remember? Healing doesn't always feel good. Just to be clear.
53:00 Healing the sometimes painfully know it when you really. Hard workout,
53:04 especially lift weights one day the next So you may hit by a truck that's good. Your
53:07 healing. But you still feel he got hit by a truck. Jesus can handle.
53:16 >> You share, however you share it. Talk to Jesus the way that you talk. Ask the
53:22 questions that you have. Share the thoughts that you have. Sure your fears share your
53:30 accusations. Lord, you said you would do this, but I haven't seen this. She can
53:33 handle it if you don't think so. Re job, she's can handle it. It's seen him. Even when
53:45 you don't see how he can. It's focusing on your relationship with him and not your
53:51 understanding of the logistical step by step with the rest of your life. And
53:56 lastly. Lean into the difficult. And the painful with him. I know. Your hands.
54:11 That she wants you to really, really busy time as busy for great reasons. You're meeting
54:14 new people are seeing old friends are going to it's Clinton areas. Lots of people
54:17 talking. We really delicious food and like this. A lot of great things. Breakout rooms,
54:21 prayer, all wonderful. >> But I want to challenge you this, Icy.
54:27 >> To spend time alone with Jesus. >> I'm not going to give you a
54:32 time limit because there's nothing holy about a time limit. And our great 5 minutes
54:37 fights 7 hours. You do you. Spend time. >> Alone.
54:43 >> With Jesus. Not to impress anyone or to show off anything. But just to abide
54:50 with Jesus. If you can do at the beginning of the day, awesome. If you can't the day
54:58 is not lost. I know if you do this thing, we're sometimes don't have devotional time.
55:05 The morning before 07:30AM. I was like a magical Macaulay time cut off or something. But
55:10 it's not for 07:30AM. And your man. Can't talk to Jesus anymore. I do something close
55:20 up shop at know if you know that he doesn't is available. So when Jesus came and hung
55:25 out, the woman at the well at noon. Jesus was there Jews. Also lake at 10, 30 at night.
55:31 Connelly. I know he's awake. So yes. If you want to spend time with him early on the
55:36 morning, that's awesome. But don't do what I did for so many years and think if I
55:39 miss. time. Tonight, you know, you kind of feel you can't praise, rushed or decline. Did
55:46 start the conversation. I mean, not like, well, that can't pray like us that
55:52 something that is not a thing. You can talk to Jesus all the time about how much time at
55:56 the beginning or the end. Juice is available for this kind of conversation. Any
56:00 time. I don't have an appeal for you where you come up front where you raise your
56:07 hand. But I do have a personal application, but I highly recommend this is an appeal
56:14 application. Definitely do it today. I encourage to do it every day of July fee and
56:20 strive to do it. Every day. The rest of your life. This is something I strive to do every
56:26 day. Do I always do it? No, because sometimes I forget I get distracted. But this is
56:31 something we should all strive to do. Talk with Jews. But what's on your mind right now?
56:40 I'm going to guess that Wallace talking the Holy Spirit brought any some things
56:42 to your mind that that. Talk to about that. Especially if you're avoiding it, whether
56:51 it's theologically complex, it's deeply personal or emotionally charged. She is
56:55 can handle it and you can't wait to talk with you. Father in heaven. We thank you so
57:07 much for being the God that you are. We thank you for caring. We thank you for
57:11 being. On overwhelmed by the things that we bring to you. Help us to be authentic. Help
