00:30 Good morning and welcome back 00:32 to our 3ABN Australia Homecoming of 2019 00:35 and we've been having a wonderful weekend 00:39 and this is actually our final session here today 00:42 so we're looking forward to a blessing. 00:44 My name is name is Charissa Torossian 00:46 and this is John Malkiewycz. 00:47 You know, I'm very happy to have Charissa alongside me 00:50 because she's been with 3ABN Australia 00:53 from the very beginning 00:54 and she's been a blessing all around the world 00:57 and her sister, Marleta Fong will be singing, 01:00 "Captive to the Call" 01:02 and Sanja Kitesvski will be playing... 01:04 and she's another one that's very well known by 3ABN 01:08 and the Speaker is, Pastor Justin Torossian, 01:12 is he your husband? 01:14 He is. 01:15 Is he a good husband? 01:17 He is. 01:18 That's excellent and he will be talking on, 01:20 "Into Eternity. " 01:21 He's chosen a Bible text, Revelation 21:3 to 4 01:25 and I'm reading it, 01:26 "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, 01:29 Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, 01:32 and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, 01:35 and God Himself shall be with them, 01:38 and be their God. 01:40 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; 01:43 and there shall be no more death, 01:45 neither sorrow, nor crying, 01:48 neither shall there be any more pain: 01:51 for the former things have passed away. " 01:54 Amen, let's open with a word of prayer. 01:57 "Our loving Father in heaven, 01:59 Lord, we praise You for this new day of life 02:02 and we thank you that we can gather here together 02:05 to study Your Word 02:06 and as we listen to Your Word as in song and as it is preached, 02:10 we pray that the Holy Spirit would speak to our hearts. 02:13 May You point us to Jesus and point us to eternity 02:16 is our prayer in Jesus' name, amen. "The Year that Changed the Modern World" 08:56 and these messages did an excellent job in covering 08:59 the prophesies of Daniel 8 and 9 09:02 and the topic of Christ's work in the heavenly sanctuary 09:05 right now, during the Investigative Judgment 09:07 or the Pre-Advent Judgment 09:09 and because they were covered already this weekend, 09:11 we won't be covering them in our message this morning 09:14 but rather will have a broader overview 09:17 of the heavenly sanctuary. 09:19 Our message is entitled, "Into Eternity. " 09:24 Let us pray, "Our Father in heaven, 09:27 we thank You for the high and holy privilege that it is 09:31 to be called the Children of God. 09:33 We thank you for Jesus Who makes it a reality. 09:36 We thank You for Your Sanctuary 09:38 that teaches us Your way of salvation 09:41 that outlines for us the beautiful plan of redemption 09:44 through which You want to restore us 09:46 into communion with You. 09:47 We ask, Lord, that as we study Your word this morning 09:51 that You would fill us with Your Spirit... 09:53 that You would not only inform our minds 09:55 but that You would touch and speak to our hearts. 09:58 We ask it in Jesus' precious name, amen. " 10:01 I've never met the Queen of England 10:03 and chances are, realistically, that I never will 10:07 but I'm told that before you meet the Queen, 10:11 there are certain rules of propriety and etiquette 10:14 that you need to learn. 10:16 You need to learn what to say and what not to say, 10:18 what to do and what not to do in her presence. 10:22 Respect and proper formality are absolutely essential. 10:27 I understand that even Prince Charles 10:29 calls his mother, "Ma'am" 10:31 and bows to her. 10:33 Friends, I may never meet... 10:36 and most of us may never meet an earthly monarch 10:38 but one day soon by God's grace, 10:40 we're going to meet the King of kings. 10:42 We're going to see Him face to face. 10:45 The sanctuary outlines for us how we can be pure... 10:49 and impure people can become pure 10:51 and stand and live and dwell 10:53 in the presence of a pure and a holy God. 10:56 Not just for a moment... not for an afternoon 10:59 but for all of eternity. 11:02 We're going to have, as I mentioned, 11:04 a broad overview of the sanctuary together this morning. 11:06 We're going to look from Genesis all the way down 11:09 until the book of Revelation... 11:11 from beginning to the end 11:13 and between our time in Genesis and Revelation, 11:16 we're doing to be having three stops along the way, 11:19 how many stops? 11:20 Audience: Three. 11:22 Three stops... we're going to stop in Exodus for some time 11:24 and zoom into Exodus. 11:25 Next, we're going to stop in the gospel of John 11:27 and zoom in there through a passage of Scripture 11:29 and before closing with Revelation, 11:33 we'll stop in the book of 1st Corinthians. 11:36 So, this will be our journey... the broad overview 11:39 and we'll be zooming in and out of the message today 11:42 and I'd like to share some things with you 11:44 that I learned about the Sanctuary 11:46 just in the last few years that really, really amazed me 11:48 and when I learned them I was just completely blown away 11:52 and amazed by them 11:54 and I'd like to share them with you. 11:55 So, why don't we start our message in the book of Genesis? 11:59 You know, until a few years ago, 12:02 I thought that God's first sanctuary on earth, 12:05 was actually the sanctuary built under the instruction of Moses 12:10 in the book of Exodus 12:11 but did you know that that wasn't it? 12:14 God's first sanctuary on earth was the Garden of Eden. 12:19 Check this out... beautiful. 12:21 In Richard Davidson's recent book... 12:23 his textbook on the Sanctuary, 12:24 he outlines 40 different parallels 12:27 between the Old Testament Sanctuary 12:29 and the Garden of Eden. 12:31 We're not going to go through all 40 12:32 but I want to share a few of them that stood out to me 12:35 as the most powerful 12:36 and we're just going to fly through these 12:38 so buckle your pew belts because here we go. 12:40 First stop, did you realize that the Garden of Eden 12:43 was not the first Garden of Eden? 12:47 The one on the earth was not the first one in existence. 12:51 Ezekiel chapter 28 verse 13 says that before Lucifer's fall, 12:54 he was in Eden... the Garden of God. 12:57 So, the earthly Garden of Eden was actually to be a reflection 13:02 of the heavenly Garden of Eden. 13:03 God already had a Garden of Eden in heaven 13:06 and, of course, the one on earth as mentioned was designed 13:10 to be a picture or reflection of that one. 13:13 Now, the parallels between the Garden of Eden 13:16 and the Sanctuary. 13:18 The Garden of Eden... the Bible tells us 13:20 was planted eastward... Genesis 2 verse 8 tells us this 13:24 and it says in Genesis 3:24 13:26 that it's entrance was on the eastside 13:29 so, the Garden of Eden had an eastward orientation. 13:32 Well, did the sanctuary have anything to do with 13:36 the direction of east? 13:37 Absolutely, the entrance to the Sanctuary was on the east side. 13:41 Secondly, the Tree of Life... the Bible says 13:44 was placed in the middle of the Garden. 13:46 Well, similarly, in the Sanctuary, 13:49 the Menorah or the seven-branched candlesticks 13:52 in the middle of the Sanctuary... in the Holy Place 13:55 and the Bible tells us that it was designed to have buds 13:59 and be shaped like a tree with branches and almond blossoms 14:03 so, this was a picture of the Tree of Life in a sense. 14:07 Furthermore, the light that would shine from the Menorah 14:11 in the Sanctuary... 14:12 the word used to describe that light 14:15 is the Hebrew word, "mu'ár" 14:17 that word is only ever used 14:19 in the first five books of the Bible... 14:21 to describe the lesser light... 14:23 the lesser mu'ár and the greater mu'ár... 14:26 the sun and the moon in the Garden of Eden 14:28 in Genesis 1 in Creation. 14:30 These are the only two places that the word "mu'ár" is used 14:35 and so, there is that connection as well. 14:37 Next, the Bible says that God's temple in heaven 14:40 was on the Holy Mountain of God. 14:42 It was on a... what? 14:45 On a mountain... on the Holy Mountain of God. 14:46 Well, Solomon's Temple in the Old Testament 14:49 was on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. 14:52 Did you know that the Garden of Eden 14:54 was actually on a mountain 14:56 or an elevated place? 14:58 It doesn't say it explicitly in the text there, 15:01 it doesn't say "Mountain" or a "Large Hill" 15:03 but we know this is the case 15:04 because Genesis 2 verses 10 through 14 tells us 15:07 that there were four different rivers 15:09 that came out of one source 15:11 and they flowed south and north and east and west 15:16 out of that one source. 15:18 Logical conclusion? 15:19 It was on an elevated place... either a large hill 15:23 or a mountain... 15:24 similarly too, the sanctuary that God designs. 15:28 Last, in the Garden of Eden the Bible says 15:32 that God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden 15:35 in the cool of the day, 15:37 that Hebrew word is the word, "Halak" 15:39 and the word "Halak" is also used of God's presence 15:43 in the sanctuary later in the Old Testament 15:46 when the sanctuary was designed and built. 15:49 Friends, God walked and talked with Adam and Eve. 15:52 He spoke with them face to face. 15:55 How amazing it must have been 15:57 to walk and talk with the God of the universe. 16:01 What a beautiful thing that must have been! 16:04 What an incredible experience! 16:06 But sadly, as we know the Bible tells us 16:09 that Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. 16:11 They chose to sin and to eat of that Tree 16:15 of the Knowledge of Good and Evil 16:17 and as a result, pain and suffering and death 16:20 came in through sin and rebellion. 16:23 The Bible tells us in Isaiah 59 verse 2 16:26 that the result of sin is that we are separated from God. 16:29 Listen... look... read the verse along with me, 16:32 "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; 16:35 and your sins have hidden His... " what? 16:37 "hidden His face from you. " 16:40 All of a sudden, God was separated from His people. 16:44 Those who He had walked and talked with... 16:47 those who He had loved to commune with... 16:49 those made in His image... 16:51 He was separated from them 16:52 and He was in this long-distance relationship all of a sudden. 16:56 Last year, at 3ABN Homecoming, 16:59 my wife Charissa preached a message called: 17:02 We're getting married. 17:04 Well, we got married... 17:06 actually, right here in this church 17:09 and this is the first time that we are back 17:10 since our recent marriage... 17:12 our wedding and so, it was an amazing day 17:14 and marriage and ministry together has been amazing. 17:18 We're both happier... 17:20 hence a little heavier than when we... 17:23 before we got married 17:24 and, you know, our wedding day was an amazing day! 17:28 It was the end of a long... long-distance relationship 17:31 and although our marriage looks like this, 17:34 most of our relationship looked more like this. 17:38 We were... we were talking and texting... 17:41 we were on the phone speaking together... 17:43 we were texting each other back and forth... 17:45 we were communicating 17:47 because when you love somebody, 17:49 you can't bear to be separated from them. 17:52 You want to be together with them. 17:55 You want to be connected with them. 17:57 Friends, praise God that in this long-distance relationship 18:01 that we have with God right now, 18:02 we can be connected with Him through prayer 18:05 and not only prayer, 18:07 we can read His text messages to us in His holy Word, amen. 18:11 We can communicate with Him and be connected with Him 18:14 even though He's distant and far away in heaven 18:18 and praise the Lord that that day of this 18:21 long-distance relationship will come to an end very soon. 18:25 But this connection with Adam and Eve through prayer 18:29 wasn't good enough to God. 18:31 He wanted to end the long-distance relationship 18:35 with His people... 18:36 He wanted to dwell with us again face to face 18:40 and this brings us to our next passage. 18:42 Exodus 25 verse 8, this is, as many call it, 18:46 "The gospel according to Moses... " 18:49 Exodus 25 verse 8, tells us this... 18:52 that God spoke to Moses and He said, 18:54 "And let them make Me a sanctuary, 18:57 that I may dwell among them. " 19:00 Then in verse 9, God explains to Moses 19:02 that the earthly sanctuary he was to build 19:06 was to be a shadow of the heavenly sanctuary. 19:09 Now remember that word, "Shadow" 19:10 because we're going to come back to it later in our message. 19:13 Just would like to give you a quick overview 19:16 of the Old Testament Sanctuary very quickly, 19:18 just a walk-through of it. 19:20 The sinner would come into the sanctuary 19:22 and he would most often bring a lamb 19:24 although there were other sacrifices 19:26 that were brought as well 19:27 for different types of offerings, 19:29 and he would come... and as he would enter into the gate 19:31 of the sanctuary... there the priest would meet him 19:34 and he would confess his sins upon the head of this lamb 19:39 or this animal... 19:40 the throat sadly would be cut of this animal 19:44 and the blood collected in a basin. 19:46 The sinner... having been broken hearted 19:50 by having to see this perfect and innocent animal put to death 19:53 because of his own sins, 19:55 would leave knowing that he was forgiven. 19:58 The priest would then take the blood... 20:00 he would take the animal and he would divide it... 20:02 and place it on the Altar of Burnt Offering... 20:04 he would take the basin of blood... 20:06 wash his hands and feet there at the Laver 20:09 and then would enter into the Holy place of the sanctuary 20:11 where the blood would be applied as well 20:14 as it had already been applied to the horns of the Altar in... 20:17 of the... the Altar of Burnt Offering 20:20 toward the entrance. 20:22 And so, this was kind of the general overview. 20:24 In the Most Holy Place, there was... 20:26 or in the Sanctuary itself, was the Most Holy Place 20:28 and this is where the Ark of the Covenant was 20:31 as we're going to see in a few minutes together 20:34 but I want you to notice three special words with me 20:38 back in our verse, Exodus 25 verse 8, 20:40 what was the purpose of the Sanctuary? 20:43 God tells Moses, "Let them make Me a sanctuary, 20:47 that I might... " what? 20:49 "dwell among them. " 20:51 Friends, God's entire purpose for the sanctuary was... 20:56 so that He could dwell among His people, 20:59 so that He could be with us once again 21:01 and we're going to see this phrase, "Dwell among them" 21:04 or "dwell with them" thread throughout our entire message 21:07 as we see it throughout redemption history. 21:10 God dwelt with Adam and Eve in the Garden 21:12 and now He's communicating that the ultimate purpose 21:15 of His sanctuary 21:17 is to enable Him to dwell with His people once again... 21:21 face to face... to be able to walk and to talk with us. 21:25 To be able to put this long-distance relationship 21:27 at an end and to be together forever. 21:30 There are two overarching purposes for God's sanctuary. 21:35 First of all, 21:37 the first and primary and main purpose of the sanctuary 21:40 is so that God could be close... 21:43 God wanted to dwell with his people 21:47 amongst and within His people. 21:48 So, first of all, God wanted to be close to us, 21:52 praise God. 21:53 We serve a Savior and a God... the Creator of the universe 21:57 that's keeping the entire universe in orbit... 22:01 the planets and the stars 22:02 and all the number of worlds 22:04 and yet, He cares about us individually. 22:07 He loves us personally. 22:10 Praise God that He wants to dwell with us, 22:13 He wants to be close to us. 22:14 What a wonderful God that we serve. 22:16 But even more beautifully than being close 22:19 to Old Testament Israel 22:20 through the sanctuary in a physical sense. 22:22 Secondly, the sanctuary outlines how God would one day 22:26 dwell with His people again in a perfect universe 22:30 in the earth made new. 22:31 Friends, God wants to end this long distance 22:36 and to return... 22:37 as we heard this morning... for the ultimate rescue 22:40 when all the dead will live again. 22:42 We'll be raised back to life and taken home to heaven 22:45 for eternity with Him. 22:47 We live in a broken sin-sick world 22:51 and God must and can and will deal with sin, 22:56 and the sanctuary outlines through its structure 22:59 and through its services, just how God will do that. 23:03 How He will purify His people, 23:05 how He will purge the planet and the universe 23:07 from death and destruction... from Satan and his angel... 23:11 from sin itself 23:12 shows us how He will purify the universe. 23:16 In the words of that beautiful hymn, 23:19 "Only faintly now, I see Him, 23:22 With a darkening veil between, 23:24 But a blessed day is coming, 23:26 When His glory shall be seen. 23:29 Face to face with Christ, my Savior, 23:32 Face to face shall I behold Him, 23:35 Far beyond the starry sky; 23:37 Face to face in all His glory, 23:40 I shall see Him by and by! 23:42 Friends, are you looking forward to seeing Jesus face to face? 23:45 Audience: Amen Pastor: Amen... so am I. 23:47 Two final points on the Old Testament sanctuary 23:50 and then, we'll move on. 23:52 In Exodus 28 verse 36, the Bible tells us 23:55 that the Old Testament High Priest 23:57 would have something written on a gold plate 24:01 and tied to his forehead on the miter across his forehead 24:05 with a blue thread 24:06 and the Bible tells us 24:07 that this is what was written on the plate, 24:10 "Holiness to YHWH... " 24:13 "Holiness to YHWH" or Jehovah. 24:17 Secondly, 1st Kings 6 verse 20 tells us, 24:21 this of the Most Holy Place in Solomon's temple, 24:24 it says that its measurement was 20 by 20 by 20 cubits. 24:29 What shape is as long as it is wide as it is tall? 24:33 Audience: A cube. 24:34 That's exactly right... a cube... 24:36 so the most Holy Place was in the shape of a cube 24:39 and the Bible tells us in the very next verse there, 24:41 that it was overlaid with gold... 24:43 the walls... the ceiling... the floor... 24:45 everything in the Most Holy Place 24:47 was overlaid with pure gold. 24:49 So, when the Shekinah glory of God... 24:51 its brightness would actually come 24:53 and fill the Most Holy Place, 24:55 it would be the most bright and beautiful thing 24:58 that the High Priest had ever seen. 25:00 This is what the Bible tells us was the case 25:03 with the Old Testament sanctuary 25:05 and that Most Holy Place... 25:07 it will be bright and beautiful shining with the glory of God. 25:10 Well, we'll see in our next section 25:13 that the glory of God was about to shine brighter 25:17 and more beautiful than ever before. 25:19 First John... or excuse me... 25:21 John chapter 1 verse 14 tells us this beautiful reality 25:25 of the Plan of Redemption. 25:26 It says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. " 25:32 This word "dwelt" is... is similar... 25:35 it's the same idea as that Old Testament word 25:38 where God said, "Let them make me a sanctuary 25:40 and I will dwell among them. " 25:42 This verse is telling us that the God of all eternity 25:46 dwelt in human flesh. 25:47 The word there actually literally means, 25:50 "To pitch your tent... to pitch camp... " 25:52 so, Jesus pitched His tent among us 25:56 and He took on human flesh. 25:58 You know, we've been camping 26:01 once since we got married, Charissa and I, 26:04 this wasn't our actual tent 26:06 but this was at the same camp meeting, 26:08 it was that big camp in northern south wales, 26:10 it's Stuarts Points... 26:12 and you know, Charissa was a trooper, 26:14 she did great as camping for almost two weeks 26:17 without running water, 26:19 you know, all of the... those types of conveniences, 26:22 but one of Charissa's favorite things about heaven 26:26 is that there will be no germs there 26:28 and so, camping has some of its challenges 26:33 and let's... let's be real, 26:35 I mean, if you've ever been to a camp ground 26:37 where you're living with a lot of people, 26:40 you know that cleanliness and orderliness 26:43 and warmth in the cold and cool in the heat 26:46 and running water and your own shower 26:48 are things that you really start to miss after a while. 26:52 Well, friends, when Jesus pitched His tent among us... 26:56 when He became human... 26:58 He went not just from a house here on earth 27:04 to a tent here on earth, 27:05 He went from the palaces of paradise 27:08 to the nastiness of Nazareth. 27:10 Jesus' descension from a place where disease didn't exist 27:15 and germs didn't exist and uncleanliness didn't exist, 27:20 and pain and sorrow and suffering didn't exist, 27:22 to a world filled with darkness and pain and suffering 27:25 and sorrow and death... 27:26 this condescension is beyond what we can comprehend. 27:29 We're actually told that through all of eternity, 27:33 we're going to be studying the plan of redemption 27:36 and it's going to continue, 27:38 we would never be able to exhaust its beauties, 27:40 but we will continue to learn more and more and more 27:44 down through the ceaseless ages of eternity. 27:47 Friends, what a sacrifice... what a God! 27:51 Now, what happened was... 27:54 the Old Testament sanctuary was completed 27:57 was something very special and significant. 27:59 The Bible tells us that God's physical presence 28:02 came and dwelt there in the sanctuary... 28:04 His Shekinah glory... His brightness. 28:06 The next part of the verse in John 1:14 says this, 28:09 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, 28:12 and we beheld His... " what? 28:14 "His glory... 28:15 the glory as of the only begotten Father, 28:19 full of grace and truth. " 28:21 Friends, the place where the glory of God shone the brightest 28:26 was the character... the face of Jesus Christ 28:30 in His life... in His personhood. 28:32 In Jesus, the glory of God shone brighter than ever before 28:37 than anywhere before. 28:39 The world was blessed with the Shekinah glory of God 28:43 in the person of Jesus Christ. 28:45 He was Immanuel... the Bible tells us 28:47 and what does the name "Immanuel" mean? 28:49 God with us. 28:53 Jesus tabernacled in human flesh, 28:55 He was like the sanctuary... 28:58 His body was the sanctuary 29:00 and in fact, Jesus mentioned the sanctuary a few times... 29:04 the temple in His life... 29:05 one was in John chapter 2 verses 19 to 21. 29:07 He was talking with the religious leaders 29:09 and the Bible tells us He told them, 29:11 "Destroy this temple, and in three days 29:13 I will raise it up. " 29:14 And the Jews thinking He was talking about that temple 29:17 that they so revered, they said, 29:19 "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, 29:21 and You will raise it up in three days? 29:24 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. " 29:28 Now, beyond Jesus just communicating here that... 29:32 that the human body is designed to be a temple for God, 29:36 Jesus was actually communicating something much more powerful. 29:40 He was telling the religious leaders, 29:42 "That temple that you so revered... 29:44 that you so built up and appreciate... 29:46 that temple that you consider as so holy... 29:50 everything about it pointed forward to me. 29:53 He was telling them that the sanctuary 29:56 was pointing them forward to Him. 29:58 It was all about Christ, 29:59 this was the purpose of the Old Testament sanctuary 30:03 and Friends, every furniture piece... 30:05 every sacrifice... 30:07 every service centered in Christ. 30:10 We're going to look just briefly and quickly together 30:13 at a few of these. 30:15 We're not going to spend much time 30:16 speaking about the sacrifices. 30:18 The Bible tells us in Leviticus, 30:19 it outlines the different sacrifices 30:21 of that were to take place at the temple, 30:24 and if you want an excellent book in learning how... 30:27 that will just explain very clearly 30:29 how each and every sacrifice points it forward to Jesus, 30:33 whether it was the goats or the lamb or the red heifer 30:37 or the grain offering or the turtle dove, 30:39 check out the book by Roy Gane called: Altar Call. 30:42 It's beautiful and you can see the gospel in Leviticus 30:45 very clearly 30:47 but I just want to talk to you for a moment 30:49 and speaking of the sanctuary or the sacrifices there 30:52 what did John say of Jesus in John 1 verse 29? 30:56 John the Baptist... he said, "Behold the... " what? 31:00 "The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. " 31:04 Every sacrifice of the sanctuary points it forward to Jesus. 31:08 Next, even the furniture of the sanctuary 31:11 pointed forward to Jesus 31:12 and check out a book called, "Sarah" 31:14 a book by Sarah Elizabeth Peck called: The Sanctuary. 31:17 It's an old book written in like 1902 or so 31:20 and very powerful 31:21 but let's just check this out briefly. 31:23 The bronze altar of burnt offering... 31:25 what kind of metal is bronze? 31:29 Can you dig bronze out of the ground in ore form and melt it? 31:32 No... bronze is a composite metal of copper and tin. 31:36 Was Jesus a composite being? Yes or no? 31:39 Yes He was... He was 100% man and 100% God... 31:44 both of them combined in one person. 31:47 God and man... 100% combined in one... 31:49 the Altar of Burnt Offering even points us to Jesus... 31:52 even the type of metal that it was. 31:53 Next, the Laver... John 7:37, 31:56 Jesus said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me, and drink. " 32:00 The Table of Shewbread, John 6:51, 32:02 He said, " I am the living bread which came down from heaven. " 32:05 The seven-branched candlesticks, John 8:12, 32:07 He said, "I am the... " what? 32:09 "the light of the world. " 32:11 The Altar of Incense... Hebrews 7:25 tells us, 32:14 "He ever lives to make intercession for us. " 32:17 The Ark of the Covenant... Hebrews 8 verse 1, 32:20 we're told, "We have such a High Priest, 32:23 who is seated at the right hand of the throne 32:25 of the Majesty in the heavens. " 32:29 Friends, Jesus is pointed to 32:32 in every article of furniture in the sanctuary. 32:35 Incredible... and if you look at the Old Testament Sanctuary, 32:38 and you turn it on its side 32:40 with the east side being in the bottom, 32:42 and you draw a line through every article of furniture, 32:45 guess what shape it makes? 32:46 It forms a cross. 32:48 Even the layout of the sanctuary 32:51 pointed forward to Jesus' death on the cross for us... 32:54 the Plan of Redemption at its apex... at its high point. 32:58 Next, the high priest in the Old Testament... 33:01 Exodus chapter 28 tells us that on his shoulders 33:03 were two special stones called the Urim and the Thummim. 33:06 Six names of the tribes of Israel were etched on one 33:09 and six names on the other 33:11 and on his chest he wore a gold breastplate 33:14 with twelve precious gems on it 33:16 and each one had a name of the tribes of Israel on it 33:19 and just like that human high priest 33:23 went into the presence of God 33:24 with the names of Israel on his shoulders 33:27 and over his chest, 33:28 now, Jesus our High Priest is in heaven 33:30 and as He is in the presence of God, 33:33 He has the names of His people on His shoulders. 33:36 He has us and He's bearing us... 33:38 all of our of our burdens on His shoulders, 33:41 but more than that, He has us over His heart. 33:44 He's in the presence of the God of the universe 33:47 with us on His heart. 33:50 We are loved by Christ. 33:52 God loves us Friends 33:54 and what a beautiful reality that is. 33:56 Friends, the entire focus of our message is the sanctuary, 34:01 and the entire focus of the sanctuary is Jesus. 34:05 This is the entire point of the Old Testament sanctuary. 34:09 God wanted to highlight this so much 34:11 that even in Jesus' life on earth, 34:13 it was bookended with the sanctuary. 34:16 John 1 verse 14, 34:18 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. " 34:20 That's a reference to the sanctuary 34:22 and then, all the way at the end of His life, 34:24 when Jesus was on the cross... when He breathed His last, 34:26 Matthew 27 tells us, 34:28 that something happened in that earthly sanctuary, 34:30 what was it? 34:32 Pause... 34:33 The veil was ripped from top... from the top down 34:37 in the Old Testament sanctuary... 34:39 in that sanctuary there... 34:41 that physical sanctuary and God was trying to say, 34:44 every lamb... every goat... every red heifer, 34:47 every turtledove, 34:49 every animal in every offering points us 34:52 to Jesus the Lamb of God 34:53 Who had just died to take away the sins of the world. 34:56 The Old Testament sanctuary was now obsolete... 35:00 it was no longer necessary. 35:02 The shadow had met its reality in Christ. 35:05 When Jesus spoke His final words on the cross, 35:08 it is finished... 35:10 it was three words in English, right, 35:12 but in Greek, it was just one word. 35:15 It was the word "Tetelestai" 35:18 Telelestai... 35:19 and this word has actually been found by archeologists 35:23 on written debt records... 35:25 where someone owed someone a large amount of money 35:28 and the word "Tetelestai" is actually written across the top 35:33 as to say: Paid in Full! 35:36 Friends when Christ cried out on the cross, 35:38 "It is finished... " 35:40 He wasn't just saying, "Hey, my life on earth... 35:42 my earthly life is finished. " 35:43 He was saying, "The price for the redemption of my children 35:47 is paid in full. " 35:49 Praise God for what Christ has done for us, amen. 35:54 We have been bought by the precious blood of Christ. 35:59 Fast forward with me 40 days, 36:01 Jesus had resurrected and now His disciples looked on, 36:05 He began to defy gravity 36:08 as He rose higher and higher into the sky 36:10 until He was caught up by a cloud of angels 36:13 and taken out of their sight. 36:14 "Jesus' words to them" as they thought 36:16 "seemed completely impossible. " 36:18 How could it be that by leaving His disciples, 36:21 He was going to be closer to them 36:23 than when He was actually there, walking and talking with them. 36:26 But after ten days in the Upper Room, 36:28 Christ was about to take that promise 36:31 that God would dwell with them to a whole 'nother level. 36:35 The book of Acts tells us that there was a loud sound 36:39 like a mighty rushing winds. 36:41 The disciples then had what looked like tongues of fire 36:43 above their heads 36:45 and were filled with the Holy Spirit. 36:47 They could miraculously speak in other languages 36:50 so that the gospel could go forth to the entire world. 36:53 The more miraculous than being filled with the Holy Spirit 36:57 or then, speaking in tongues 37:00 was that they were filled with the Holy Spirit. 37:02 He filled their hearts and minds in a whole new way. 37:06 In his letter to the church of Corinth, 37:08 in both of them actually... both letters... 37:11 Paul... a total of three times mentions this reality 37:16 that we are to be temples of the Holy Spirit. 37:20 Paul says in 1st Corinthians 3:16, 37:24 the following words, 37:26 "Do you not know that you are the temple of God 37:28 and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you?" 37:31 Corinth was a city saturated with salesmen and sailors 37:35 living sin-sick lives. 37:37 On a hill called the Acropolis in the middle of the city, 37:41 the city had this temple of Aphrodite 37:44 the Greek Goddess of Love as she was called. 37:46 It was really the the Greek Goddess of Lust. 37:48 Paul reminded the Corinthian believers, 37:51 "You are a temple of God" 37:53 and every time they would look up and see those temple ruins, 37:57 that were already ruins in Paul's day, 37:59 they would remember, "Wait a minute, 38:02 I am meant to be a temple of God... " 38:05 and they would pray a prayer, 38:06 "Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit, 38:08 I want to be a sanctuary for you. " 38:10 Though the temple was in ruins in Paul's day, 38:13 there were still 1,000 temple prostitutes 38:16 that would work the city below, 38:17 causing all kinds of degradation and perversion. 38:20 Right after Paul commands them to flee sexual immorality, 38:24 he pens these words in 1st Corinthians 6 verse 19, 38:28 "Or do you not know that your body is the temple 38:31 of the Holy Spirit who is in you, 38:32 whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 38:35 For you were bought at a price: 38:38 therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, 38:42 which are God's. " 38:44 Friends, every time they pulled out their money pouch, 38:47 they were tempted to pay for pleasure. 38:51 They would think, "No, I have been bought at a price, 38:54 I belong to God... 38:56 I have been bought with the precious blood of Christ. " 38:59 Friends, we are living in a time 39:02 where perversity and sexual impurity 39:05 are at an all-time high. 39:07 Just like the 1,000 temple prostitutes of Corinth, 39:10 today, the devil has 1,000s of ways 39:12 that he's trying to tempt men and women 39:14 to fall into lust and sexual sins. 39:16 When you go shopping, 39:17 he tempts you to buy that dress that's a little shorter 39:20 or those pants that are a little tight... 39:22 that shirt that's a little lower... 39:24 or maybe it's the temptations of posts of Facebook or Instagram 39:28 that after-work-out photo of yourself 39:30 that you really know you shouldn't... 39:32 through promiscuous party culture 39:34 that permeates our university campuses and towns... 39:36 through the plague of online pornography... 39:39 through steamy romance novels... 39:41 through YouTube... Hollywood and Bollywood... 39:43 in thousands of different ways, Satan is trying to trip us up 39:47 but you know what? 39:48 Even in our highly sexualized society, 39:52 we can be pure. 39:54 We can be victorious, amen. 39:57 James 4 verse 7 tells us, "Draw near unto God... " 40:00 and it says, "Submit yourselves therefore unto God. 40:04 Resist the devil and he will... " what? 40:07 "Flee from you... 40:09 Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. " 40:12 The key to victory is drawing near to God 40:15 because in the presence of God, 40:17 and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, 40:19 we can be victorious over the temptations that may assail us. 40:23 Now, the disciples experience this 40:26 through the power of God's presence 40:28 Christ dwelt in their hearts 40:31 through every surrendered follower of Him, 40:33 He lived out His life. 40:35 The disciples became so full of His purity... 40:39 so full of His goodness... 40:41 so full of His righteousness 40:43 that there was no room left for selfishness and sin 40:46 because they had let Jesus in. 40:48 Christ was living in their hearts by faith 40:51 and now, in the plan of redemption 40:54 God would dwell with His people 40:56 not in a physical building... 40:58 not limited to one physical location at a time 41:02 like Jesus was 41:03 but now, inside of every believer. 41:06 Check this out, 41:07 in the Old Testament with the sanctuary as we saw, 41:10 God said, "I will dwell with them. " 41:12 Then in John, the Bible says that the Word became flesh 41:16 and dwelt among us. 41:17 Jesus said, "I will dwell with them" 41:20 but now, through the Holy Spirit God was saying, 41:23 "I will dwell within them... " 41:25 and God was now able to be closer to every follower of His 41:30 than ever before since the fall of man. 41:34 The steps were being taken for the purification of His people 41:40 the preparation for us to spend eternity with Him. 41:44 Friends, He wants to prepare us to dwell 41:50 in His presence forever. 41:52 What a beautiful reality this is! 41:54 It doesn't matter that there are a 1,000 temptations, 41:58 just like for the Corinthians. 42:00 Doesn't matter if there are 1,000s of temptations 42:03 that the devil has to trip us up, 42:05 we can be victorious in Christ and through Christ 42:09 to live a Godly and a pure and an upstanding holy life. 42:13 Now, when we ask God to fill us... 42:15 to fill our hearts and minds with the Holy Spirit, 42:18 we find that... that He actually makes our lives 42:24 reflect the life of Christ, 42:25 and remember Jesus' life actually was... 42:29 was outlined in the sanctuary, 42:30 even in the articles of furniture, 42:32 and when we give our lives to Him, 42:34 our lives can be outlined there as well. 42:36 Check this out... 42:37 the Altar of Burnt Offering... 42:39 Romans 12 verse 1 tells us that we can die daily to self, 42:45 and that we are sacrifices... Romans 12:1 says, 42:48 "We are to be living sacrifices for God. " 42:50 Next, Galatians 3:27 says that we are baptized into Christ 42:54 and we put on Christ. 42:56 John 6:58... we are partakers 42:59 or we partake of Jesus the bread of life 43:02 daily through the Bible 43:04 and through studying God's holy Word. 43:07 Ephesians 6:18, we are to pray always... 43:09 this is that Altar of Incense... 43:11 Ephesians 6:18 tells us, we are to pray always 43:13 with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. 43:16 And last of all, the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary... 43:19 the Bible tells us in Revelation 3:21, 43:22 God spoke these beautiful words to His people... 43:24 He said, "To him who overcomes... " 43:27 to him who... what? 43:29 "To him who overcomes, 43:31 I will grant to sit with Me on My throne 43:34 even also as I overcame and sat with My Father on His throne. " 43:39 That Ark of the Covenant had the Mercy Seat on top 43:43 which was a symbol of the throne of the God of the universe 43:46 and Jesus says, 43:48 "Hey, you overcome through My strength, 43:50 when I come back to save you 43:52 and bring you home to heaven with Me, 43:54 you will sit with Me on My throne, 43:56 even also as I overcame 43:57 and sat with My Father on His throne. " 43:59 Friends, that is going to be a beautiful, beautiful thing. 44:03 God wants to dwell in us... within us... 44:06 and to shine His glory through us. 44:09 By-the-way, do you know the first person 44:11 that the Bible ever mentions 44:14 as being specifically filled with the Spirit of God? 44:17 Bezalel... you know who Bezalel was? 44:22 The artisan... the builder who God called 44:25 and set apart to design and to build 44:29 the Old Testament sanctuary. 44:31 From the very beginning, 44:33 God's sanctuary and being filled with God's Spirit, 44:36 were united. 44:37 These thoughts were one... 44:39 and it goes back even further than that, 44:40 Adam... in the Garden of Eden... his body was there... 44:43 his physical body... but he was lifeless 44:44 and the Bible says that God breathed into his nostrils 44:47 the breath of life and man became a living being. 44:49 That word "breath" in Hebrew is the same word as "Spirit. " 44:53 Adam was not only filled with physical breath, 44:56 but he was also filled with the Holy Spirit 44:58 and this brought him to life. 45:01 Friends, God's sanctuary and being filled with God's Spirit 45:05 have been connected all throughout time. 45:08 Now, check this out, 45:09 in Exodus 31, God tells Moses, 45:12 "I have called Bezalel by name. " 45:16 Do you know what Bezalel's name means? 45:19 It means, "In the shadow of God. " 45:22 You may be wondering, "Well, what's the significance?" 45:25 Hebrews... two times... 45:27 calls the Old Testament Sanctuary 45:29 a shadow of things to come. 45:31 It's... Bezalel was actually literally walking in 45:36 the shadow of God in the sanctuary 45:38 that was to be a shadow of the things to come... 45:41 a shadow of the cross and the plan of redemption 45:43 beyond a shadow of the... 45:45 Christ's ministry in the heavenly sanctuary 45:48 as our High Priest. 45:49 Friends, amazingly Bezalel was set apart 45:52 and filled with the Holy Spirit 45:55 and this is our greatest need today as well. 45:59 We need to be filled with the Spirit of God. 46:03 We can try to live a good and a pure and a holy life, 46:07 all that we want in our own strength 46:09 but we will fail... 46:11 but if we are surrendered to Him, 46:13 we can be victorious. 46:15 because through Christ... how many things are possible? 46:18 All things are possible. 46:20 Christ promises us this, "This is our greatest need... 46:24 is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. 46:27 We need the latter rain of God's Spirit. 46:29 In case you missed it in the news, 46:31 Australia is currently in the worst drought in 100 years, 46:36 and we want to invite you... whoever you are... 46:39 wherever you are watching this, 46:40 please join us in praying for rain. 46:41 Many of our farmers' families are terribly suffering out west. 46:45 My wife and I went out there, 46:48 she was leading a prayer weekend 46:50 in a regional of churches a few weeks ago, 46:51 and we went out... and it is just so dry and barren, 46:55 it's hard to fathom until you actually see it 46:58 and then it can sink in. 47:00 We were able to help a farmer and his... his family. 47:04 We were able to go and to... to feed... 47:06 help him feed some of his cattle... 47:09 it takes him all day just to feed all of his cattle 47:11 and the sheep that he has there as well. 47:14 Well Friends, as much as we need physical rain 47:17 and are desperately in need of that, 47:19 we're in even greater need of spiritual rain... 47:22 the rain of the Holy Spirit... 47:25 the outpouring of God's presence, 47:27 we need to be filled with God's Spirit individually as people... 47:31 unitedly as families 47:33 and corporately as a church. 47:35 He longs for the world to see His glory 47:38 and to come to know His character. 47:41 That's really what the glory of God is by the way, 47:43 it's His character. 47:44 You can check it out in Exodus 32... 34. 47:48 So God wants to show the world His character through us... 47:52 through His people. 47:53 Now the last point before moving to our final part 47:57 in our message... 47:59 what do you notice here 48:00 as you look at the three middle parts of our message? 48:04 We were in Exodus 25... John chapter 1... 48:07 and 1st Corinthians chapter 3... 48:10 Who is emphasized... 48:12 what member of the Godhead is emphasized more 48:14 on Mount Sinai and in the Old Testament sanctuary? 48:16 Pause... 48:18 God the Father... right? 48:20 God the Father is emphasized more there 48:22 Who then... God became a man 48:24 and His name was... what? 48:25 Jesus... 48:26 and then, God says, 48:28 "Know ye not that your body is the temple of God... " 48:29 Who dwells within you? 48:30 The Holy Spirit. 48:32 Every single person of the Godhead 48:35 is involved in the plan of redemption 48:37 and it centers in the sanctuary... 48:40 incredible... 48:42 Friends, God is doing everything that He possibly can 48:45 to prepare as many people as possible 48:49 to dwell with Him 48:50 not just for a little while 48:52 but face to face on into eternity 48:55 and every member of the Godhead... 48:58 every holy angel is working to prepare us for His soon return. 49:02 Come with me to Revelation as we wrap up our message. 49:05 Here the Bible tells us the beautiful reality 49:08 that we will live in heaven forever with Him. 49:12 After Jesus returns... 49:14 after He saves His people from earth's final crisis... 49:17 after we are in heaven for the 1,000 years... 49:19 after the wicked and Satan and sin itself is incinerated 49:22 in the lake of fire... 49:24 after death itself will be destroyed... 49:27 on the ashes, God will create a new heaven 49:31 and a new earth. 49:32 In heaven, one of the groups of people that will be there 49:36 is a group called the 144,000. 49:39 The Bible tells us that these are those that will be alive 49:42 at the very end of time, the righteous... 49:45 those who have given their lives to Christ... 49:47 who will be there at the end of time before Jesus... 49:50 or when Jesus returns. 49:51 They'll be alive during the ultimate rescue 49:54 of Christ's second coming, 49:55 and check out the Bible's beautiful description of that 49:58 in Revelation 14 verse 1, 49:59 "Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, 50:03 and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, 50:06 having His Father's name written... " where? 50:08 "written in their foreheads. " 50:10 Does this sound familiar? 50:12 What was written on the forehead of the High Priest 50:17 in the Old Testament? 50:18 "Holiness to... " whom? 50:20 "Yahweh" 50:21 Yahweh is the name of God... 50:22 so in the Old Testament, it was just one person... 50:25 just the high priest 50:26 that would come into the physical presence of God, 50:29 and have His name written over his forehead but now, 50:32 all of the people of God would have His character... 50:35 His name imprinted in their frontal lobes. 50:38 Their minds will have been transformed to become like Him, 50:42 to reflect His character to be like their God 50:46 and to be like their Savior. 50:48 Friends, this is amazing 50:50 not just one of us will have this as a reality 50:53 like the Old Testament high priest, 50:55 but all the followers of God. 50:56 And next, it gets even more beautiful, 50:58 Revelation 21 verse 16, 51:00 "The city is laid out in a square: 51:02 its length is as great as its breadth. 51:04 And he measured the city with the reed: 51:06 twelve thousand furlongs. 51:08 Its length, breadth, and height are equal. " 51:10 What kind of shape is that? 51:12 It's a cube. 51:14 Friends, the Bible tells us here that the New Jerusalem... 51:17 when we will be dwelling in for all eternity... 51:21 that's primarily build out of Gold... 51:23 transparent like glass 51:24 is... is the place where God will dwell with His people 51:28 throughout eternity, 51:30 it's not just going to be one person 51:32 but we'll all dwell in a giant Most Holy Place 51:36 with God almighty for eternity. 51:39 The Shekinah glory of His presence 51:41 will illuminate the place 51:43 and the Bible tells us in Revelation 51:44 that that will be light and glorify the entire place. 51:50 Friends, if you gain one thing... 51:53 if remember one thing from this message, 51:56 let it be this, 51:57 that God longs to dwell with you. 52:03 He wants to be close to you 52:06 not just here and now 52:07 through filling you with His Holy Spirit 52:09 but then and there on into eternity 52:13 face to face. 52:15 That's His greatest desire... 52:17 that is what the sanctuary is all about. 52:20 That is what the life, death, resurrection 52:23 and ministry of Jesus is all about. 52:24 That is what the infilling of the Holy Spirit is all about 52:27 and praise God that on that day, it will be set. 52:30 Our last verse, Revelation 21 verses 3 and 4, 52:34 "... Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, 52:37 and He will... " what? 52:39 "dwell with them, and they shall be His people. 52:43 God Himself will be with them and be their God. " 52:47 Friends, what a beautiful day that will be! 52:50 Audience: Amen. 52:51 God will have a holy people 52:53 who are living in the presence of the Holy King. 52:57 The first two chapters... we're standing... 53:01 we find ourselves... humanity face to face with God 53:05 in a sinless world. 53:06 The last two chapters of the Bible, 53:08 face to face with God in a sinless universe. 53:12 The whole Bible in between 53:14 is God making it possible to dwell with His people. 53:18 Friends, this is 3ABN Homecoming... 53:20 it's our last message 53:22 but this homecoming only exists 53:25 to prepare us to look forward to... 53:27 and be ready for that homecoming 53:29 when Jesus will come to gather His loved ones home. 53:33 I don't know about you but Friends, 53:35 I want to go home with Him for all of eternity. 53:37 This world with its brokenness and sin... 53:41 as much as... 53:43 as the blessings of God can... can fill it 53:46 and make it a joy in various ways, 53:48 I'm homesick for heaven, how about you? 53:51 It's time to go home Friends. 53:53 Revelation 21 verses 3 and 4 is the last time 53:58 that this phrase, "Dwell with them... " 54:00 exists in all of the Bible, 54:02 and the reason for that is because this, 54:05 "Dwell with them... " 54:07 will continue into eternity. 54:11 Praise His name... 54:13 we will dwell face to face with Him forever and ever. 54:18 Life will go on and on and on and on and on and on and on... 54:24 world without end... amen. 54:27 Audience: Amen. 54:29 Friends, do you want to say, 54:30 "Lord, I want to be Your sanctuary... 54:32 fill me with Your Spirit here and now 54:34 so that I can be ready to meet you 54:37 and dwell with You then and there through eternity. 54:39 Is that your desire this morning? 54:40 Amen. 54:42 "Father in heaven, 54:43 we thank You for the infilling of Your Spirit, 54:46 we thank You that Jesus is coming soon 54:49 to take us home... 54:50 the ultimate homecoming that will ever exist, 54:52 and Lord, we thank You for the sanctuary 54:55 that outlines the plan of redemption 54:57 and that You want to be close to us 54:59 and dwell with us face to face. 55:01 Fill us with Your Spirit Lord, 55:03 make us Your walking talking breathing living sanctuaries... 55:06 shine Your glory through us we pray, 55:09 in Jesus' name, amen.
