00:24 Thanks for watching Heavens Declare. I'm Jim Burr and we're 00:29 doing a program today for the kids. I've learned that adults 00:34 like it too because we've got so many beautiful pictures coming 00:39 up. You know, if you ever have a chance to look through a 00:45 telescope, the moon is just incredible. I could spend weeks 00:49 looking at the moon. You can go to the library and get a book 00:54 and learn all the craters. In fact, I like to work with two 00:59 telescopes. I like, when I have friends over, to give them one 01:02 telescope and I'll get another one and we'll look at the moon 01:05 and I'll walk them around the moon. Look at these mountain 01:09 ranges here, the Alpines mountain ranges. They're 18,000 01:15 feet tall on the moon. The Alpines, for instance, make an 01:19 arch. If you follow that down, all of a sudden you'll see a 01:23 crater that's a darker crater and that's Plato and that's 01:26 about 60 miles across. If you continue on down you have a 01:29 walled plane where a plane comes in, the lava apparently has come 01:33 in and we have sort of a big arch. Then if you follow it 01:36 around here, you have Copernicus If you go on up above that we 01:42 have the Sea of Nectaris. You have Theophilus Crilius and this 01:46 is a newer crater because you see it's pushed over into the 01:50 other ones. We have craters like Messier I and II and they're on 01:54 the very edge of the moon. These are really fun to watch. They're 01:59 small, but apparently, an impact came in at a steep angle and 02:04 shot matter out for hundreds of miles; you see the streamers. 02:10 So, just even looking at the moon is breathtaking. Of course, 02:15 people who've seen Saturn for the first time, it's fun to see 02:20 that for the first time and hear their oos and their ahs. They're 02:25 actually seeing the rings around Saturn. Also, the moons around 02:30 Jupiter. Even with a pair of good binoculars you can see 02:35 moons around Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. They'll be 02:40 pretty small with binoculars. The problem is these cheap 02:45 telescopes that are sold in stores are a disaster. If you're 02:51 interested in getting a telescope, I would definitely 02:53 recommend taking a look at what we call a Dobsonian telescope. 02:56 Dobsonian scopes are quite reasonable and they're very 03:02 solid. They don't shake all over the universe. The stuff that's 03:05 sold in some of these department stores is so wiggly and so shaky 03:10 that you get so discouraged. In fact, I had a friend that called 03:14 when I was headed to California and he said I've got a 03:17 telescope and I've never seen a thing through it, and it was 03:21 like hundreds and hundreds of dollars he spent for it and the 03:26 problem was it wasn't focusing. Some of these you get a long 03:30 range of focus and unless you're close... What you've got to do 03:35 is you have to look at a TV tower or a hill or something way 03:40 out in the road. Get it in focus. Then when you look at the stars 03:44 you'll be able to find them. But if you have that focus off an 03:47 inch or so you won't see a thing you won't see a thing through it 03:50 because it will be so blurry you won't even see there's anything 03:54 there. Just be really careful buying department store 03:58 telescopes because most of them are so flimsy. But the word to 04:02 look for is Dobsonian and the smallest Dobsonians are like 04:05 three or four inches in diameter and then they go on up to 16 04:09 inch and so forth. I mean, you can get some of these for under 04:13 a couple hundred dollars and they're really a wonderful 04:17 instrument, they really are. For the money, a Dobsonian would be 04:20 the best scope. They're very rigid, very stable. They don't 04:23 shake all over the place. Most of you should actually be able 04:26 to see moons around Jupiter, you'll see our moon and you'll 04:30 see the rings around Saturn and other things. Depending on if 04:33 you're in the middle of a city you're not going to see much, 04:36 but even in the city you will see like Jupiter and Saturn and 04:40 the moon. But as far as seeing a lot of beautiful stars, you 04:44 need to get out in the country away from the city lights. 04:49 So, today we've got a lot of stuff to show everyone but 04:53 the young kids particularly. I live in the mountains of 04:58 Colorado and we're up at high altitude, 7,000 feet, and we 05:02 have a lot of life that comes to our feeders. We have birds that 05:09 come. Just recently we saw a couple of bobcats coming out, 05:14 down the mountain looking for I suppose rabbits would be their 05:19 favorite food. Hummingbirds in the summertime. It's fantastic 05:24 living in the mountains. The hummingbirds, you can actually 05:29 get them to sit on your finger while they drink from the feeder 05:33 You know, it's wonderful living in the country. We were in 05:38 Russia and we were in these apartments that went up 20, 30 05:42 stories and people living in little cubicles. When we were 05:47 there and we showed pictures of the animals in Russia, people 05:52 said oh this would be heaven to be able to have animals like 05:56 I'm going to show a couple of animals coming up here. Well you 06:00 know the Bible says that heaven is a country. I have some 06:06 pictures of people in Hong Kong and you can't believe. Must be 06:11 100 stories in little cubicles, people living in little cubicles 06:15 They never get to see the beauties of God's creation. 06:18 Never get to see the mountains and the trees and the flowers 06:22 and all the animals that he has created. That's not really the 06:26 way God designed this earth, you see. It says heaven will be a 06:31 country. I'm going to share some things with you about tree 06:36 houses because tree houses would be absolutely fantastic, living 06:41 in the mountains where you would have birds coming to your feeder 06:45 I've been in some of those tree houses. Tree houses are becoming 06:49 very popular. You know something I'm going to show you something. 06:53 In heaven, you can have a tree house. Ellen White is a lady 06:58 that lived over 100 years ago and God showed her many things 07:03 and one of the things he showed her would qualify for tree 07:08 houses. And we're going to show you that, but first I'd like to 07:14 share with you an image of where I live in the mountains and 07:19 where we have this deer and elk that come to our house, come to 07:23 our feeder and there's a deer that will actually come and eat 07:27 out of my hand. This mother deer will actually come when I call 07:31 her a few times. She likes apples and I take an apple and 07:36 a knife and go out there and cut slices and she just loves apples 07:40 and she loves those little carrots. Actually, we've had 07:45 three deer that we have been able to feed. We have a couple 07:49 hundred elk that are in the valley. I was looking out of our 07:54 front door of our house and you see an elk there. There were 07:57 actually more elk, there were about five elk out there keeping 08:01 our lawn mowed. These elk are quite tame too. I told my wife 08:05 I think if I worked with them I could probably get them eating 08:09 out of my hand. With the deer if you throw the apple out, you 08:12 know, they get fairly close to you and I don't have dogs to 08:16 chase them away. They will actually get curious if you 08:20 throw an apple close to them and they'll come up and eat and then 08:23 you bring it closer and closer and close. Finally, you hold it 08:26 out. Well that morning that you saw that elk, there were 08:29 were actually five mowing the lawn there and I went out and 08:31 talked to them and they just kept eating and they'd look at 08:34 me and didn't run away. Then I opened the garage door to go to 08:37 work. The garage door is very noisy. I thought well that will 08:39 scare them. It didn't scare them I drove the car out, closed the 08:42 door; that didn't scare them. Drove away. They were all there 08:45 So, that's kind of the way it's going to be in heaven. The Bible 08:49 says the animals are afraid of us now because of the sin of 08:54 Adam... The fear of you and the dread of you. But in heaven I 09:01 think you're going to get to work with these animals, the 09:08 deer and the elk and I think it's just going to be a 09:09 fantastic place. But I want to share with you some pictures of 09:14 tree houses now. Kids, how would you like a tree house like this? 09:20 Would that be incredible having a tree house like that. Wouldn't 09:25 that be cool. That's kind of a fantasy. Looks like a fantasy 09:29 design but we've got some other tree houses that are not. This 09:34 is going to be a fantastic tree house. Look at that. How would 09:37 you like to live in something that? Wouldn't that be cool? 09:41 The ultimate Swiss Family Robinson tree house. Here's 09:46 another tree house that is very modern looking. Wouldn't that 09:52 be cool living in that? We've got one more coming up here. 09:59 This is a very modern one. Do you know that God gave Ellen 10:05 White a vision of something like this, Spiritual Gifts, 52. She 10:11 said I saw the most beautiful houses that had the appearance 10:15 of silver. Does that look like a silver-appearing house? I saw 10:19 the most beautiful houses that had the appearance of silver 10:23 supported by four pillars set with pearls which were the most 10:27 glorious to behold which were the inhabitances of the saints. 10:32 I have probably 30 pictures of tree houses and they're all 10:36 supported on pillars; almost all of them are on pillars. Here she 10:41 saw these trees. Imagine a tree house in the country, what it 10:46 would be like to have the beauties of the sunrise and the 10:51 sunset and the fresh air in the mountains, and the birds singing 10:55 and all that. I'm going like wow heaven is an incredible place. 11:00 She says, human language is inadequate to describe the 11:05 reward of the righteous. It will be known only to those who 11:10 behold it. No finite mind can comprehend the glory 11:14 of the paradise to come. Folks if you want a tree house in 11:18 heaven the Bible says we're going to build houses and 11:21 inhabit them. In fact, I think you may have three houses in 11:25 heaven because Jesus says, in my Father's house are many 11:29 mansions. Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you and the 11:32 Bible says you're going to build houses and inhabit them. So, it 11:36 could be that you have three houses in heaven, but a tree 11:39 house like you saw on the screen wouldn't that just be incredible 11:44 Our next image is of our earth and here is our earth in space. 11:50 What holds the earth up? What if you live in Australia on the 11:54 bottom of the earth. Remember the kids singing this song, what 11:59 holds me up when the world's upside down. Well it's so big 12:03 it's so big and so small actually, compared to the sun and 12:08 other things, it's very, very small. The Bible has a lot to 12:13 say about the earth. Jesus created the earth. By him were 12:20 all things made by him and without him was not anything 12:25 made. They used to think that the earth was flat. It looks 12:29 flat doesn't it when you walk outside. Until we got a space 12:33 craft. You get in the space craft; all of a sudden you see 12:37 the earth as round. The Bible said that correctly that God 12:42 sits over the circle of the earth. They used to think it was 12:46 flat. Some religions taught that the earth was supported on 12:49 the backs of turtles. Somebody said well what's the turtle 12:53 stand on? Well another turtle. They said it was turtles all the 12:57 way down. Some religions taught it was on the back of elephants. 13:01 Used to believe it was supported on the back of Charles Atlas. 13:05 God said he hangs the earth on nothing and here it is in space 13:09 Wow, wow, how is it held on nothing? Well, it's gravity 13:13 isn't it that holds the earth as it travels around the sun. Earth 13:18 is just the perfect place for us to live. If it were any closer 13:24 to the sun you would not be comfortable because of the heat. 13:28 If it were farther away it would be just too cool to have life 13:33 and to grow food and so forth. So God placed the earth so 13:37 perfectly. The spinning of the earth is so critical. It just 13:42 turns the right amount. It turns every 24 hours. If it turned 13:46 like every 12 hours, you would just scorch to death with the 13:50 temperature. Imagine if sun came out and stayed in the sky for a 13:54 long time, you'd be overheated and then when it got dark it 13:58 would get so cold. The temperature drops very fast. 14:01 Up in the mountains where I live it really drops when the sun 14:06 goes down because the heat escapes from the earth. So, there 14:10 are so many things about the earth that are just perfectly 14:14 designed. It didn't just happen. It shows that we have a creator 14:20 that had us in mind and did just a perfect job of creating our 14:26 earth. We could go take a look at the next graphic, which we 14:31 have, Saturn and Jupiter, Uranus Neptune. Now you see the little 14:38 earth down there. We could fit a million earths inside of our sun 14:44 About 1300 would fit inside Jupiter. We see Saturn with 14:48 those beautiful rings. Those rings extend out about 170,000 14:52 miles. If you put the rings on the edge of our earth it would 14:56 almost reach out to the moon. Then the two blue ones are 14:59 Uranus and Neptune. You wouldn't want to live on any of thee. 15:03 These are all perfectly placed for us. You would not survive on 15:07 Venus; you would die within minutes. On Mars, you couldn't 15:11 last very long without all kinds of special apparatus to make you 15:15 comfortable and keep you warm. You wouldn't be able to grow any 15:20 food. Mercury would be hot on one side and cold on the other 15:24 side. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, we don't even know 15:28 if you have a hard surface, if you could put a chair there or 15:31 if you could walk on it, because they're gas giants. We just have 15:36 gas and we can't see below the clouds so we don't know what is 15:42 there. On our next graphic, we have a galaxy. Now our sun is 15:48 part of a hundred billion stars, more stars than you can count. 15:53 This is kind of what a galaxy looks like. It's just all these 15:57 stars and our sun, which is just a star, it's just an average 16:01 star, nothing special about our sun and it's located on the edge 16:06 in the Orion arm. It's about two-thirds of the way out from 16:09 the center of the galaxy in what's known as the Orion arm of 16:13 the Milky Way galaxy. And that's a perfect place for us to be 16:21 too. So we see it's designed for us. We have coming up a graphic 16:28 that might be a little fun exercise. You can impress your 16:31 friends here if you like because if you see the list here, you 16:35 could write your name so that you could be found any place in 16:38 the universe, anybody could find you. So, you'd start first with 16:42 your name, put your name on the first line. You might want to 16:45 write this down. The second line you put your street address, 16:49 then you put your city, then you put your zip code and whatever 16:55 state or country you're in. In this case, I'm in Illinois and 17:00 the country would be United States. The continent would be 17:06 North America. The planet would be Earth and our star would be 17:11 the sun and our location in the galaxy would be the Orion arm 17:16 of the Milky Way galaxy and the galaxy would be the Milky Way. 17:22 Which galaxy cluster? Our galaxy is part of the Virgo cluster 17:27 that we call the local cluster. So, that would be something fun 17:31 you might enjoy, writing your address so anybody, any place 17:35 in the universe, could find you. The next graphic coming up is 17:40 what's known as the Jewel Box. The Jewel Box is a star cluster 17:45 of hundreds of stars. It's just a beautiful, beautiful sight and 17:50 they've named it the Jewel Box. When I think of that, you know 17:55 the Bible talks about his jewels in Malachi 3:17; he's going to 18:01 make up his jewels. As I go to speak in churches I often do the 18:05 children's story and we use this for the children's story, the 18:09 pictures that are coming up now. But we show the Jewel Box and we 18:13 sing the little song and I'd like to try to sing it to you. 18:16 Many of you probably have heard it and would join in with me and 18:21 it goes something like this: When He cometh, When He cometh, 18:25 To make up His jewels. All His Jewels, precious jewels, 18:32 His loved and His own. Like the stars of the morning, 18:39 His bright crown adorning. They shall shine in their beauty 18:46 Bright gems for His crown. He will gather, He will gather, 18:53 the gems for His kingdom. All the pure ones, 18:57 All the bright ones. His loved and His own. 19:01 Then the chorus: Like the stars of the morning, 19:05 His bright crown adorning, They shall shine in their beauty 19:12 Bright gems for his crown. And the third verse: 19:18 Little children, Little children Who love their Redeemer, 19:24 Are the jewels, precious jewels His loved and His own. 19:30 Like the stars of the morning, His bright crown adorning, 19:36 They shall shine in their beauty Bright gems for His crown. 19:43 Yes, you can be Jesus' jewels. He probably can't wait to show 19:48 you the beautiful things of the heavens. I think we're going to 19:52 get to travel with Jesus. I bet he just can't wait to take you 19:57 to show you the wonderful things he has created. As we move on in 20:02 our program the next graphic we have... Have you ever looked 20:05 up in the sky and you saw a cloud, something that maybe 20:10 looks like a bunny rabbit? We often see clouds that look like 20:16 different things. Here, coming up, is a picture of a fish and 20:21 this would be... You could say well that looks like a red 20:26 snapper fish in the sunset; a beautiful sight to see, but it 20:30 looks like a fish. Then we have another one that looks like a 20:34 feather. And it really does, doesn't it, look like a feather. 20:40 Then we have one that looks like a hummingbird and low and behold 20:45 when we look through a telescope we see things that look like 20:50 these little creatures. In the next case you'll see a butterfly 20:54 and we have a butterfly wing nebula. I put together 275 of 20:59 these pictures for the Michigan Conference who wanted to teach 21:03 their Adventurers astronomy. Isn't that a beautiful picture 21:07 of the butterfly wing nebula. Just absolutely breathtaking. 21:13 That is actually an exploding star and we have hundreds of 21:18 those in the sky. As I mentioned before we believe, and what 21:22 seems to be true, is we have these stars that are so big like 21:28 Betelgeuse in Orion is a billion miles in diameter. And these 21:32 biggest stars like Betelgeuse in Orion and Canis Majoris and some 21:36 of these, they think will be like a balloon. You blow up a 21:40 balloon, it gets too big, it pops and it becomes very bright 21:45 for a few weeks, a few months maybe. So, gas goes out in 21:49 opposite directions. Now the butterfly nebula what we believe 21:53 is that there is a very intense magnetic field in the center 21:58 here that caused it to go just like a balloon, you know a 22:03 circle. Actually, the magnetic field in the center of that star 22:07 would cause it to shoot out in opposite directions 22:10 symmetrically. In fact, you could go take a look if your 22:15 kids are on the internet, look up the Van Allen belts, because 22:20 our earth has a magnetic field. That magnetic field of our earth 22:25 protects us. It protects us from radiation from the sun. If you 22:29 look at the Van Allen belts, the magnetic field around our earth 22:33 makes the lobes symmetrical just like the butterfly wing nebula 22:37 and some of the other exploding stars that we have that go out 22:41 symmetrically in opposite directions. That's why when this 22:46 one exploded it didn't just go like a big circle but went out 22:50 in opposite directions. So, we see that from time to time. 22:54 There are quite a number of them that are that way, the butterfly 22:58 wing nebula is another one that does it. In our next graphic, we 23:06 have some little mice. Somebody used that and called the mice 23:11 galaxies. So here you see two galaxies in the next image and 23:16 they have tails, that one has a long tail on it. So, they have 23:21 been named the mice galaxies. Now a galaxy is outside of our 23:25 Milky Way. A galaxy is something way, way out in space. We're 23:29 talking 30 million years where it would take like 30 million 23:33 years to get here from that because it's so, so far away. 23:36 We can't even comprehend what that would mean. It's just 23:40 really, really far away. The next image we have is actually 23:46 of a Chevy Nova and there's just a regular Chevy Nova but the 23:51 next one is a Super Nova, it's a hot rod Nova and if you're 23:55 familiar with anything in space you know that's a term we use. 23:59 So, the next image that we have is a super nova in our galaxy. 24:03 A super nova would be one of those stars that explodes and 24:08 that I mentioned before. We believe the stars, but big ones, 24:12 Canis Majoris, 1.8 billion miles in diameter, Arcturus is a 24:16 really big star, Antares is a really big star. We believe they 24:19 burn up their fuel and they get bigger and bigger and bigger 24:23 like a balloon. They get so big they can't contain themselves 24:27 and we get this big explosion. So, that would be a super nova. 24:34 People have asked if a star exploded what does that have to 24:39 do with heaven and God and a creator? There are a couple 24:43 scriptures that might help us understand. We don't know when 24:46 that exploded, if that was part of the curse. Because when Adam 24:52 sinned we had curses, didn't we? But if you look at Hebrews 1 24:56 verse 11, it says of old he laid the foundations of the earth 25:00 and the heavens are the works of his hands, they will perish. The 25:05 heavens are going to perish but God will endure. So, it says yea 25:09 they shall wax old like a garment, as a vesture shalt thou 25:11 change them. So, the Bible talks about the heavens perishing, it 25:15 talks about like as a vesture shalt thou change them. This is 25:19 a vesture. In King James, a jacket would be like a vesture. 25:23 It casts off its outer shell and there's always a star remaining 25:27 in the center. Well we need to move along. The next image we 25:31 have is the tadpole and we have a galaxy that kind of looks like 25:35 a tadpole. It's called the tadpole galaxy. That's kind of 25:40 a cool picture. The next image we have is of sombrero. We have 25:44 a galaxy which has been named the sombrero galaxy which is we 25:47 believe probably the biggest galaxy we have out there. They 25:51 think this may have up to 800 billion stars. There's kind of a 25:55 dark lane through the center. Sombrero galaxy has a 25:58 designation M104. To look at that, it's in the spring of the 26:02 year, it's in the area called the realm of the galaxies. 26:06 The next picture is a horsehead. Then we have a horsehead in 26:10 Orion. Here's the horsehead picture in Orion. This is 26:13 located right on the bottom belt star of Orion, right below... 26:17 If you look at the belt of Orion he has the shoulders and three 26:21 stars in his belt. The horsehead is right there at the very 26:25 bottom of the belt star. Next image is an ant and we have 26:29 what is called the ant nebula. Now nebula means just a cloud. 26:33 It's the ant cloud. There are four basic types of nebulae. 26:37 The nebulae are bright because they're hot, some because they 26:40 have hot stars in them. Then we have the dark ones like the 26:44 horsehead which is a dark nebula. Then we have these 26:46 exploding stars which we call planetary nebulae. The next 26:50 image is of an Eskimo and we have a star that looks like an 26:56 Eskimo and the next image shows the Eskimo nebula from an 27:00 amateur telescope. This is what you'd see if you had a decent 27:04 telescope. You see a little Eskimo there. He's got a cold 27:08 nose. You see his lips and he's got a parka on. But the Hubble 27:11 did a much better job of photographing the Eskimo. That's 27:15 really an incredible image that the Hubble gives us from the 27:19 Eskimo nebula and we have hundreds of these in our Milky 27:22 Way galaxy. That's about all the pictures we can show you for 27:25 today because the time for the show is just about over. But I 27:29 want to thank you for watching Heaven's Declare. We have a 27:33 whole series of programs you may want to order. But we long for 27:36 the day when Jesus is coming to take us to see these beautiful 27:39 things he's created. Thank you for watching Heaven's Declare. 27:42 We'll see you next time. |
