00:01 The following program presents principles
00:03 designed to promote good health
00:05 and is not intended to take the place
00:06 of personalized professional care.
00:09 The opinions and ideas expressed
00:11 are those of the speaker.
00:12 Viewers are encouraged to draw their own conclusions
00:15 about the information presented.
00:49 Hello and welcome to Health for Lifetime.
00:51 I'm your host Don Mackintosh
00:53 and I'm glad you're with us today.
00:54 We're gonna talk about an exciting topic
00:56 that hopefully can give you
00:58 or someone you know a Newstart,
01:01 and talking with us today
01:02 about that is Dr. Neil Nedley.
01:04 Welcome Dr. Nedley.
01:05 Thank you, good to be here Don.
01:07 Now you wear many hats,
01:08 you know, you're a physician in Internal Medicine.
01:11 You are a dad, you are an author,
01:14 authored the book Proof Positive,
01:17 and that's gonna serve as a basis
01:18 for some of that we are talking about today.
01:22 And also you are the President
01:23 of Weimar Health and Education Center,
01:27 and part of that Weimar
01:29 whole Center out there in Northern California.
01:33 Of course, they have an academy,
01:34 they have a college,
01:35 but they have what's call the Newstart program. Right.
01:39 And tell us a little bit about that program.
01:43 Well, it's a residential program.
01:46 You can't go there
01:47 and see a physician just for a consult.
01:49 There are great physicians there.
01:51 They can find out what your underlying problem is
01:54 and often treated through alternative means.
01:57 In other words, not necessarily just reaching
01:59 for prescription drugs or surgery right away,
02:03 sometimes there is other means
02:04 that can be as effective.
02:06 And so you could go there
02:08 and make a visit with physicians there
02:12 or you could also come to the actual Newstart program
02:15 and the Newstart program is a 10-day program
02:19 or an 18-day program.
02:21 We prefer the 18-day program
02:22 where you stay there for 18 days
02:24 in the beautiful Sierra Mountains there.
02:28 Low enough elevations, so you don't have to worry
02:30 about the elevation problems of Lake Tahoe area
02:34 but that's where it's close to.
02:36 And you stay there for 18 days
02:40 and you alter your lifestyle, what you are eating.
02:43 Food becomes medicine even Hippocrates said
02:46 "let your food be your medicine."
02:48 He recognized the advantage of that.
02:51 And then you'll also get on a proper exercise program
02:54 for you and your condition,
02:56 the use of water, hydrotherapy treatments,
02:59 and actually drinking proper amounts of good healthy water
03:03 can be health restoring.
03:06 And then of course the rest of the acronym,
03:08 the N is for Nutrition, the E is for Exercise,
03:12 the W is for Water that's the new.
03:15 And then the start, the S is for sunlight.
03:19 And there is plenty of sunlight in that area.
03:22 There is more days of sun
03:24 than a lot of places in the United States.
03:30 But yet there are green tress
03:32 and abundant evergreens around there.
03:36 So you have that fresh air mountains smell
03:40 and that actually is health restoring.
03:42 So you have the sunlight, the T is for temperance.
03:45 Temperance is actually utilizing
03:49 your frontal lobe of the brain
03:52 and you'll be able to utilize
03:53 your frontal lobe better by being at Weimar.
03:56 A temperance is moderation of the things that are healthy
03:59 and abstinence from things that are unhealthy
04:01 and you have the tools to be able to really adapt yourself
04:06 to an appropriate Lifestyle Program
04:08 that enhances your life.
04:09 I mean it's going to make you happier, healthier,
04:12 you gonna look better,
04:14 and you will also experience a great vacation type
04:18 atmosphere in the 18 days there.
04:22 So N-E-W-S-T-A-R...
04:24 The A is the fresh air, okay, air,
04:28 and you get that those negative ions
04:30 with the evergreen trees there.
04:32 There is also a creek almost like a river
04:35 that runs a year around there,
04:38 and there is also,
04:40 and sometimes there are waterfalls
04:42 there on the property as well.
04:45 The R is for rest
04:46 and you will get adequate rest at Weimar
04:50 and you'll be able to open your doors to that fresh air,
04:53 night air that will also help with proper rest.
04:58 And then the T is trust and divine power
05:00 and there is a lot of evidence today
05:02 that spirituality helps you health of mind
05:07 and also health body.
05:09 And so trusting in a higher power
05:13 and recognizing that God has a plan for each individual
05:18 and their life and as they follow that plan
05:21 their lives are enhanced.
05:24 It's a great experience coming to Weimar
05:28 and I have yet to meet an individual who came there
05:32 and who was disappointed in it.
05:34 So you know that program,
05:36 you know, just to give some history
05:37 that's been while around for a while.
05:39 I think that Newstart acronym
05:41 was originated by a patient, if I understand.
05:44 Yes, and it actually is owned by Weimar.
05:48 So if anyone says they have Newstart program
05:51 they really should have license
05:53 from Weimar Center of Healthand Education
05:56 because there are the owner
05:57 of the registered trademark term,
05:59 Newstart, utilizing those eight principles.
06:04 But yes, I believe it was a patient
06:06 that came up with this.
06:07 And Weimar has been around since 1978,
06:10 so has a long track record of success.
06:15 I noticed here from the brochure
06:17 that there is a lot of exciting things that happen
06:19 and we will show that up on the screen.
06:22 The beautiful setting there and the autumn leaves
06:27 and what not, it's a beautiful environment.
06:29 But it's exciting to see what can happen
06:31 is to Find the New You.
06:33 You know lot of people come with many different things
06:36 some of the common killer diseases in America
06:39 or western diseases, we call them.
06:41 Some are, you know, like heart diseases
06:43 and we will talk about that,
06:44 but it also makes the claim
06:46 that it is talking about reliving arthritis.
06:48 How is the Newstart program help arthritis?
06:51 Well the studies were done years ago in Scandinavia,
06:54 actually showing that just a diet change in itself
06:58 can significantly help
07:00 what we call Inflammatory Arthritis,
07:02 this would be like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis.
07:05 And some people rheumatoid arthritis
07:07 is so bad they have to be on prednisone or steroids,
07:10 on other disease altering medicines
07:13 that can have side effects on the liver.
07:15 Just by getting on a plan based died that's healthy
07:18 and high amounts of omega-3,
07:21 they can get off their steroids.
07:23 A vast majority of cases,
07:25 the arthritis can actually go into remission.
07:27 And we've seen that happen at Weimar in many cases.
07:30 In addition to that there are certain foods
07:34 that can actually set off non-inflammatory arthritis
07:38 that's the wear -and-tear
07:39 arthritis, the osteoarthritis.
07:41 And we've had osteoarthritis improve not only with diet,
07:44 but also hydrotherapy.
07:46 We utilize hydrotherapy in proper amounts.
07:51 They off in the contrast, baths will help
07:53 or you have the heat alternating with the cool.
07:57 And as you go through the hydrotherapy experience
07:59 and combine that with exercise.
08:02 Actually arthritis does better with proper exercise.
08:05 It's more of instead of pounding,
08:08 we would recommend a running program
08:09 for instance osteoarthritis of the knees. Right.
08:12 But it's more the bicycling type of activity
08:15 that can significantly actually help the muscles
08:19 and actually improve the joint space,
08:21 and so arthritis in and of itself.
08:23 A lot times people are referred
08:25 for hip replacements.
08:26 They will come to Weimar and they will find out
08:28 they don't need hip replacement
08:29 at least yet or knee replacement.
08:32 They actually needs some change in their lifestyle.
08:35 You know, they have wonder facilities.
08:37 They have been able to tour those in number of cases
08:39 that hydrotherapy section for the ladies
08:42 and then for the man
08:43 and then have these massage therapies,
08:45 which are excellent I mean,
08:47 you know, after you have done massage there you go,
08:49 I think I might stay here forever.
08:53 That's a beautiful situation.
08:55 Diabetes, you know, it says on the brochure
08:58 that it can be stopped and can be reversed even.
09:02 Yes the evidence for that is clear,
09:04 but Weimar was one of the first institutions
09:06 to actually demonstrate that diabetes can be reversed.
09:10 In fact they've held a reversing diabetes program
09:13 since the 1980s
09:16 and now the evidence for that in the medical literature
09:19 so conclusive it's really irrefutable
09:23 that just by hanging the diet and now this is different
09:25 in the American Diabetes Association Diet.
09:29 The American Diabetes Association Diet,
09:30 now you gonna be having the count carbs,
09:32 you gonna have to be limiting a cholesterol,
09:34 you gonna have to be, you know, get very educated
09:37 almost become a semi-nutritionist
09:40 to be able to not only get on the program
09:43 but to stay with it.
09:45 And that program is not as successful
09:47 as the Weimar Diet.
09:49 Studies on the Weimar Diet show it to be significantly
09:53 more successful in controlling diabetes.
09:55 And in addition it's easier to stand.
09:59 People actually comply better with the Weimar diet
10:02 due to improved taste
10:04 and it's easy of use in home environment than they do
10:07 on the American Diabetes Association Diet.
10:10 And these things are researched-based.
10:12 I mean they started to look at this,
10:14 they looked closer and first they said
10:15 oh that's these lifestyle centers
10:17 may be they do not know what they are doing
10:19 but now they are taking real notice.
10:20 Yes, and the cholesterol level has come down.
10:22 Not only has the diabetes get control
10:24 but the cholesterol and triglycerides
10:26 that are major problems for most diabetics come down
10:29 and the blood pressure comes down.
10:31 Weimar has done study
10:32 showing that the blood pressure
10:33 will come down significantly during the 18-day program,
10:37 18 sometimes more points and with that drop
10:41 often medicines are being withdrawn.
10:43 They don't even need
10:44 the high blood pressure medicines in that one.
10:46 You know, someone might say, well I can do that at home.
10:48 That maybe true, but in this residential treatment center,
10:51 what's the benefit for coming there versus
10:53 trying to do some of these things at home?
10:56 Well the advantage is that you get all of the expertise,
11:00 being able to be practiced one time
11:02 and so that makes it easier for you to stay on it
11:06 and to be motivated.
11:09 By the end of the 18 days you gonna feel so much better
11:12 seriously that you gonna be well motivated
11:15 to stay on this program,
11:17 where if you just try to do at home
11:18 it's a little difficult to be able to implement
11:21 all of this at home.
11:22 It can be done in certain settings
11:24 but you will need to have a physician
11:26 that really knows how to do this
11:28 as giving you the proper instruction
11:29 knows how to follow-up the blood sugars
11:31 and the cholesterol levels
11:34 and knows how to reduce medicines.
11:37 And you may find a physician in your area that can do that
11:40 and can help you out in their program.
11:43 But overall the expense is worth it.
11:48 I mean the price is right.
11:51 It's not something that can't be afforded
11:53 by the average American.
11:54 In fact the cost about is much as what an average
11:57 American will pay
11:58 for the same amount time in vacation.
12:01 And so if you are going to take vacation
12:03 why not come to Weimar and improve your health
12:05 and get a nice vacation at the same time.
12:08 Yeah, the other good news about it as you said
12:10 I think that it's a 10 or 18-day program.
12:13 So it's always only 18 days away.
12:15 So if you are just newly diagnosis with diabetic
12:18 or if you have some of these problems that are developing,
12:21 it's always 18 days or less away. Yeah.
12:25 And you can get out there
12:28 and it's a delightful situation.
12:30 We gonna put up a graphic
12:31 that shows a map on how to get there.
12:33 People may want to know where it is in California
12:35 and they want to know,
12:37 you know, really about how to get there.
12:39 And you can see that you've got Sacramento,
12:40 the capital there and it's about
12:42 30 minute drive from Sacramento up the hill.
12:45 That's I-80 east and you can see it's not too far
12:48 away from San Francisco there.
12:49 San Francisco is on the Coast
12:51 and then I-80 also goes through Sacramento,
12:54 the capital and then 30 minutes east of there
12:57 in foothills of the Sierra as you will find
13:00 Weimar just right of the interstate.
13:03 In fact, as soon as you get of the interstate
13:06 you will see the sign for Weimar Institute.
13:08 You will be able to go into
13:10 the Center of Weimar Health and Education immediately.
13:12 And for those listening you know 1800-525-9292
13:18 is the phone number or if you want visit
13:20 on the web it's, www.newstart.com.
13:24 Well it's an easy website to remember.
13:25 Yes, newstart.com, for it's kind of works along with it.
13:28 You know, there are a lot of
13:29 other exciting things that happened there.
13:31 We want to continue asking you questions about that,
13:34 Dr. Nedley. We are glad you are with us.
13:35 We're talking with Dr. Neil Nedley.
13:38 He is the President of the Weimar Center
13:39 for Health and Education.
13:41 We're talking about the Newstart program.
13:42 It's exciting how people can stop, reverse,
13:47 better yet prevent the diseases
13:49 that occur many times in Western nations.
13:51 And join us when we come back,
13:53 we will continue talking.
