00:07 Good evening.
00:08 In all the countries that Child Impact operates 00:11 they're now all on lockdown. 00:13 And I guess the big difference to us 00:15 is that there is no government assistance. 00:18 So those that are poor 00:21 or don't have a lot are really struggling. 00:24 And so in the communities where we sponsor children, 00:29 many of the families are running out of food. 00:32 And this is in India and Bangladesh. 00:34 We are helping where we can. 00:37 And if you want to help, you could best give to our 00:40 Where Needed Most Fund or our Rice and Health Appeal, 00:44 it will be well used. 00:46 Just go to our website, childimpact.org. 00:52 We are excited to announce that world renowned violinist 00:56 Jamie George has made 00:58 two amazing mini concerts for the kids. 01:02 I guess after being in lockdown, 01:04 we all need to relax and listen to some special music. 01:09 The first concert will premiere right here 01:11 on 3ABN after our program, 01:15 next Friday night may 8th at 11:30 Central, 01:20 and then again at Saturday at 4:30 Central. 01:25 Jamie is amazing, and you will enjoy these concerts. 01:29 So join us next Friday night, and then watch the concert, 01:33 and then also again on the following weekend. 01:39 Please enjoy this news story from Bangladesh. 02:00 In Bangladesh, the Adventist Mission 02:02 follows along a familiar path, 02:04 while people of all ages are reached out administer to, 02:07 children are the heart of the operation. 02:09 Adventist schools 02:11 like Kellogg-Mookerjee Memorial Seminary 02:13 and the rural village of Jalirpar 02:14 are the primary vehicles through which children 02:16 are reached and shown the Christian message. 02:20 This leads many to Christ and provides them 02:23 with the opportunity 02:24 to pursue a variety of career options 02:26 limited to the education. 02:28 And in some cases the gifts of the school 02:30 come back to them. 02:31 In this episode, we learn the story of two men, 02:34 each of whom attended KMMS as children, 02:36 who as adults have dedicated their lives 02:38 to furthering its mission. 02:41 In Bangladesh, Christianity is barely seen. 02:44 With it being half of 1% of the population, 02:47 the challenge to spread the gospel is evident. 02:49 The need for church workers is high. 02:52 Sponsorship from these schools has greatly increased 02:54 the amount of church workers like Harrison and Richard 02:58 they went through sponsorship and now help out the church, 03:00 increase its numbers 03:02 with all the programs they offer. 03:04 A great difference has been noticed 03:05 with Christian education in Bangladesh 03:08 and their support from sponsors 03:10 have brought them to seek to help other children 03:12 to get the same opportunities they got. 03:15 It's very difficult to bring Christianity to a country 03:18 that is raised in a certain religion and viewpoint. 03:21 Yet the outreach that has been possible needs to be addressed. 03:25 The support of the church's mission 03:26 as well as helping the kids live a better life 03:29 can change their entire future, 03:31 and through helping one of them that support grows 03:34 and spreads to others. 03:36 Our time at KMMS was heavily facilitated 03:39 by Richard Marandi, a Field Officer for BCSS. 03:43 He accompanied us regularly while filming at the school, 03:46 and provided us with insight 03:48 into the lives of some of the children 03:50 we filmed. 03:51 But his role extends 03:53 far beyond helping foreign visitors. 03:55 In his own words. 03:57 I'm Richard Marandi, 03:58 BCSS Field Manager for Sub Bangladesh mission. 04:02 And under me 04:04 there are 18 village schools and 2 boarding schools. 04:09 And altogether like 750 students 04:12 are sponsored, and I look after them. 04:15 I am doing this job from 2007 till now. 04:22 Richard's experience 04:23 with the church began as a child. 04:27 Richard's childhood was not without its difficulties. 04:32 When I came to this boarding school, 04:34 first time in 1990, 04:36 so I had sponsorship support 04:39 because my family background is not good. 04:42 So as you know that boarding school fees 04:46 is a little higher than day school. 04:49 So I know that studying in boarding school is hard. 04:55 And my parents could not pay my school fees. 04:59 But attending KMMS allowed him to experience a different life. 05:04 There are many students, there were during my time, 05:08 and they did not have sponsorship. 05:11 And after they studied two years, 05:14 like in the boarding school, and still they did not have. 05:17 They did not receive sponsorship support. 05:19 And after two years, 05:22 their financial debts are higher 05:27 so they left school to home. 05:29 And the people they do like rural work, 05:35 some are labor. 05:38 If I had not this sponsorship support, 05:42 so I could not also study, and I could not get education, 05:47 and I couldn't be like them also. 05:52 Richard is great with kids 05:53 and they seem to like him a lot too. 05:58 His experience with KMMS 06:00 Adventist education and sponsorship 06:02 have led him to give that experience back 06:04 to new generations of children in Bangladesh. 06:07 So I enjoy this work because when I see, 06:13 I visit around villages. 06:16 So I know the people and they are needy, 06:20 and they sometimes they approach to me, 06:22 and they cry to me, 06:24 and they ask for sponsorship 06:27 so I am interested to work behind them 06:31 so that I can do something for them actually. 06:35 Richard's role extends to multiple schools, 06:37 which he visits regularly. 06:40 He stayed in the same guest house 06:41 as our documentary team while we were there, 06:45 but this is not the case for Harrison, 06:46 whose role is dedicated to KMMS. 06:50 He helped us film interviews with the children 06:52 serving as an interpreter and filling in the details 06:55 when our interview subjects got a little shy. 06:58 Much of our information about the various students 07:00 came from him 07:02 as he works closely with the children. 07:04 Perhaps no other faculty member has as much personal experience 07:07 with as many students as Harrison does. 07:10 Hello, my name is Sinoy Harrison Sicar. 07:13 And I am from Kellogg-Mookerjee Memorial Seminary. 07:17 And I'm working here from 2013 September 16 07:21 to still now I'm working here and working as an accountant 07:25 and this year I am appointed 07:27 as a new area 07:30 sponsorship supervisor at KMMS. 07:34 Like Richard, he attended KMMS as a child. 07:38 Actually, my father and my mother 07:42 they are working here before their marriage 07:46 they're working here, 07:47 and they got married in this tradition. 07:50 And I was born here, 07:54 and I started my school early here. 07:58 And I completed my SSC level from here, 08:03 and I went to Basque for higher education. 08:07 So from my childhood, I started from the school. 08:13 This experience proved inspiring for Harrison, 08:15 who had found a life mission. 08:18 And actually, I loved school, when I studied the college, 08:24 that time I had a dream that I will work at KMMS. 08:30 When I was a student over here, that time I thought, 08:35 "Oh, if I saw my sponsor, if I visited my sponsor, 08:41 or if I hug him, then I will feel better." 08:45 And even I don't know. 08:46 Now I don't know who is she or who is he? 08:51 I don't know. 08:52 Who is the person who helping me, 08:55 but I am very thankful to him or her 08:58 that he or she supported me from my childhood 09:02 to till my college level. 09:06 For their love 09:07 and for their financial support, 09:09 I am able to complete my college, 09:11 and I am able to reach my goal. 09:14 The stories of these men are inspiring 09:17 and their efforts make all the difference 09:18 at KMMS and other schools, but they would agree. 09:23 In the end, it is all about the children. 09:27 Many of them are came from the poor background 09:31 and many of them are living in the rural village area. 09:37 So if they are living there, 09:39 so then they will not receive the good education, 09:43 good food, even good shelter, 09:45 but they came here, and they learned many things, 09:49 and they are very thankful to the sponsorships 09:53 because of their love and support 09:55 and their kindness. 09:57 Sponsorship not only helps a child, 10:00 it helps a future adult. 10:03 When I visit to any school, any sponsored school, 10:07 I collect students, 10:10 and I talk individually with them, 10:13 and I like to know their problem 10:17 and their interest 10:19 and what would they like to be in future. 10:23 It helps so much. 10:34 Well, we're back here at KMMS School in Bangladesh, 10:38 and I guess this is what my job is all about, 10:41 it's the part I enjoy. 10:43 It's meeting the children. 10:45 And each one of these children here 10:47 is sponsored by Child Impact. 10:50 Each one has a sponsor, and each one is given a future, 10:54 is given an education. 10:56 Each face has a different story, 10:59 each face has a different home situation, 11:02 but they're really happy at the school 11:05 and the school was having a big impact on their life. 11:08 It just shows you 11:09 the effectiveness of child sponsorship. 11:13 The sponsorship 11:14 is very important for Bangladesh 11:18 because here is the needy children 11:22 they need to go to school. 11:25 Many students out there, 11:27 they don't have opportunity to go to school. 11:30 So it's really helping our country 11:33 and even the church 11:36 has great work through schools. 11:41 Our schools is a mission outreach, 11:44 where whoever can come and study here 11:50 and the sponsorship is helping so much 11:55 to have the growth of the church. 11:59 And children and the young people 12:02 while they're coming in this school, 12:04 they're really falling in love with Jesus 12:08 and accepting Jesus as their personal Savior, 12:11 it's really marvelous work. 12:13 So preparing for this world and the world to come. 12:18 My story, that I was a sponsor child, 12:21 and now I'm heading 12:23 the sponsorship department here in Bangladesh. 12:27 And the same way 12:30 we have about 40% to 50% leaders 12:36 who were sponsored before, 12:38 and now they're the leaders of the church, 12:42 continuing God's message and His mission 12:46 through church in the leadership. 12:51 I'm Shawn Boonstra, 12:53 Speaker Director for the Voice of Prophecy. 12:55 And I've been involved with Asian Aid for many years. 12:59 I'm excited that they're growing and helping 13:01 more children in need 13:02 and very excited with their new name, 13:05 Child Impact International. 13:08 Voice of Prophecy continues to partner 13:10 with Child Impact both in rescuing girls 13:12 from trafficking in India and with outreach in Myanmar. 13:16 My family continues to sponsor Sheila, 13:19 the young lady we sponsor in India. 13:22 Child Impact International is going to have a big impact 13:26 on the lives of thousands of children 13:28 in Adventist Mission Schools and other projects. 13:31 And we at Voice of Prophecy 13:33 are really excited to be a partner. |
