00:01 Welcome back. We're talking today about fearful pride, or
00:04 the Fowopt experience; fear of what other people think of me, 00:10 of getting our sense of who we are from other people 00:15 instead of going to God, and getting who we are from Jesus. 00:20 This week what I want to encourage you to do is 00:23 threefold, three different things. 00:25 1. Ask yourself, Who am I afraid of? 00:30 Now the list might be very long, and I'm not trying to give 00:33 you a hard exercise. 00:34 Or it might be just one person. 00:37 Whoever it is, identify who you're afraid of. 00:41 I've started in my journal here, from my mother-in-law, Valerie. 00:44 I started putting some things in here, some fears. 00:48 This one says, Who? 00:49 In the category of Who? it says a co-worker. 00:52 Maybe you're afraid of a co-worker. 00:54 It could be someone else. 00:56 It could be a friend at school. 00:57 It could be the neighbor down the street. 01:00 It could be the minister, or the minister's wife, whoever it is. 01:04 Next prayerfully ask God why you're afraid of that person. 01:10 Figure out why you're afraid. 01:13 Maybe I have here, I'm afraid because I think the person's 01:18 more popular than me. 01:20 The person has more friends than me. 01:23 Or maybe the person is more stylish than me. 01:28 Whatever it is, it doesn't matter. 01:31 Just identify who you're afraid of, and what you're 01:35 afraid of in that person. 01:36 3. Identify a Scripture that you can use to combat that fear. 01:45 A lot of fears have their basis in lies. 01:47 And identify a Scripture that you can use. 01:50 And this one I'm talking about here; we could use this one. 01:53 1 John 3:1. The Bible says, Behold, what manner of love 01:59 the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called 02:03 the sons and daughters of God, the children of God. 02:08 So I say, I'm afraid of this person because I think they're 02:11 more popular or they're better than me. 02:12 And God says, None of that matters. You are my child. 02:16 What about maybe the person you're afraid of is maybe 02:20 a little bit of a bully in your life. 02:22 Maybe you're afraid of what they're going to say to you, 02:26 maybe a little bit critical words that they're going to say, 02:30 and you're afraid of that. 02:32 Scripture, and I want to turn here. 02:34 I have just a little reference written out here, 02:36 but I actually want to turn here. 02:38 I love this Scripture. 02:39 It's Isaiah, Isaiah 51. 02:44 We're going to look at verses 10, 12-16, Isaiah 51. 02:51 This works perfectly if I'm afraid of someone. 02:55 It says, I, even I, am He who comforts you. 03:00 Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, 03:05 and of the Son of man who will be made like grass; 03:09 and you forget the Lord your maker, who stretched out the 03:14 heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth. 03:17 You have feared continually every day because of the fury 03:21 of the oppressor, when he is prepared to destroy. 03:25 And where is the fury of the oppressor? where is he? 03:30 The captive exile hastens that he may loosed. 03:34 He should not die in the pit. 03:35 Then it says, But I am the Lord your God who divided the sea, 03:39 whose waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name. 03:44 And I have put My words in your mouth. 03:47 I have covered you in the palm of My hand. 03:50 I love this promise. 03:53 You know what it says? 03:55 We don't have to be afraid of a man. 03:57 We don't have to be afraid of women. 03:59 We don't have to be afraid of anybody, because the Lord 04:02 Jesus made the heavens. 04:05 He stretched them out. 04:07 The Lord Jesus is God and He divided the sea. 04:10 The Lord Jesus can cover you and I in the palm of His hand. 04:15 That's a beautiful promise. 04:17 First identify who you're afraid of. 04:20 Second identify why you're afraid of that particular person. 04:25 Third identify a Scripture. 04:28 Write out that Scripture. 04:31 Keep that Scripture with you this week, and pull it out often 04:35 to bring you hope and deliverance. 04:37 Our next program we discuss offended pride, 04:41 and the pride of false humility. 04:44 You may say, What is that? 04:45 Stay tuned next week and you will find out. 04:48 In closing our Scripture, Romans 15:13, May the God of hope 04:52 fill you with all joy and peace in believing, 04:55 that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. |
