00:09 Do you know what the longest time prophecy
00:11 in the Bible is?
00:13 You will soon and you will discover
00:15 that its message can change your life,
00:18 right here on His Voice Today.
00:24 Welcome to another His Voice Today
00:26 with Steve Wohlberg.
00:31 Welcome to the longest time prophecy in the Bible
00:35 part one.
00:36 We need two parts to this
00:38 because there's so much involved in the subject,
00:39 and it's just so important as you're about to find out
00:43 this long prophecy which is in the Book of Daniel
00:46 has to do with the Jewish temple
00:49 and God's sanctuary.
00:51 And we will also find out that the sanctuary
00:54 especially in the Book of Revelation
00:56 really contains the golden key to understanding the issues
01:01 that God's people and the world will face at the end of time.
01:06 If you were to hop up on a plane
01:08 and fly to Jerusalem or at least in the area
01:11 and then get to Jerusalem as I did in 1983,
01:16 you will find a place called the Temple Mount,
01:20 and on top of that Temple Mount there is a golden building,
01:24 a golden domed building
01:25 which is called The Dome of the Rock,
01:28 that structure is actually a Muslim mosque
01:32 and the Muslims believe,
01:33 I don't believe this but they believe that,
01:35 that long time ago, Mohammed was taken to heaven
01:39 from that very location
01:41 and it is sacred to the Muslim world.
01:44 Now, the same spot on top of the Temple Mount
01:47 is also sacred to the Jews
01:49 because approximately 4000 years ago,
01:54 Abraham offered his son Isaac on that spot,
01:58 and about 2000 years ago
02:00 the Jewish Temple used to sit there.
02:02 The Jewish Temple was the heart of the Israelite worship
02:06 until it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
02:11 Both the Muslims and the Jews want to control that spot,
02:16 and I think it's safe to say
02:17 that it's probably one of the hottest pieces
02:19 of real estate on planet earth.
02:22 And as we're about to discover the Jewish temple
02:25 that used to sit on that spot
02:27 and now with the Muslim Dome of the Rock is there
02:30 really contains the key to understanding the issues
02:35 that the whole world will face at the end of time.
02:40 So let's go back to the Old Testament
02:42 and let's look at the sanctuary,
02:44 the temple, the tabernacle
02:46 and then we'll move into the Book of Daniel,
02:48 and then finally we'll go into the Book of Revelation,
02:50 but we have to get some background.
02:52 In Exodus 25:8, right after God brought Israel out of Egypt.
02:58 He spoke from heaven to Moses
03:01 with definite instruction in verse 8,
03:04 God said, "Let them make Me a sanctuary,
03:08 that I may dwell among them."
03:11 And so the Israelites carried out God's instruction
03:14 and they built this building.
03:17 This tabernacle, this structure that they took with them
03:21 as they wandered in the wilderness
03:23 and eventually it became a permanent structure
03:25 when they got into the Promised Land.
03:28 The sanctuary that God told them to build
03:30 had a number of different compartments,
03:33 a number of different rooms
03:34 and it had a what was called a courtyard
03:37 surrounding the sanctuary,
03:39 and the courtyard had a little door
03:41 that the priests and the people could go into
03:43 where they would offer their sacrifices
03:45 and there was a, an altar called,
03:47 The Altar of Burnt Offering, that was inside the courtyard
03:50 and then there was a laver of water
03:53 where the priests would wash their hands
03:54 and their feet before they went into the sanctuary itself.
03:58 The sanctuary had two primary rooms.
04:00 There was a room called The Holy Place,
04:02 where the priest would go into first
04:04 and then there was a second room
04:05 called The Most Holy Place.
04:08 The articles of furniture that were in the Holy Place
04:11 were basically three of them.
04:13 There was a golden candlestick
04:15 which Jewish people today referred to as the Menorah.
04:19 There was a table with two stacks of bread.
04:23 The table of the bread
04:24 and there was also a golden altar called
04:27 The Altar of Incense, where the incense would burn
04:30 and the Israelites could smell it on the outside
04:32 and the priests could smell it on the inside,
04:35 and that incense ultimately represented
04:37 the incense of the righteousness of Christ
04:40 through which believers can approach God.
04:43 Going through the second veil into the Most Holy Place,
04:47 this was really the heart of the Israelite worship.
04:50 And inside that Most Holy Place
04:52 was one primary article of furniture
04:54 was which was a golden box,
04:57 and on top of the box there was a golden lid
05:00 called the mercy seat,
05:02 and there were two golden angels
05:04 coming out of that box
05:07 and inside between the two golden angels
05:11 there was a light called the Shekinah.
05:14 And the light was a reflection
05:16 or actually in reality it was the presence of God,
05:20 God dwelt in the sanctuary like the Bible says,
05:23 "Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them."
05:27 Inside that box underneath the golden lid
05:29 between the two cherubim
05:31 or the two angels there were cherubim
05:33 beneath the presence of God
05:36 and the ark really represented His throne
05:38 and Him sitting upon the throne.
05:41 Underneath the golden lid
05:42 was a number of different articles
05:45 of not really furniture,
05:48 but there was a golden pot of manna,
05:51 there was Aaron's rod embedded
05:52 and then there was one primary piece of solid stone,
05:57 actually two tables of stone.
06:00 And they were the Ten Commandments
06:01 that God gave Moses on Mount Sinai
06:04 that He wrote with His own finger.
06:05 They were placed under the golden lid
06:07 inside of the box
06:09 and it was the box itself was called,
06:11 The Ark of the Covenant,
06:13 because the Ten Commandments represented the covenant
06:16 that God had made with the Jewish people.
06:20 And what happened in the Old Testament days
06:22 was that whenever an Israelite
06:25 broke one of the Ten Commandments
06:27 that were inside that, that golden box
06:30 and violated the covenant between them and God.
06:34 They were instructed to take an animal
06:37 and to go through the little door
06:39 or it was a curtain door
06:41 where they would go into the courtyard
06:44 with their animal sacrifice, and this is what they did
06:47 when they wandered in the wilderness.
06:49 They took their animal,
06:50 they brought it into the courtyard
06:52 and they were instructed to place their hands
06:55 upon the head of the animal and to confess their sins
06:58 of breaking one of the Ten Commandments
07:01 and tradition says,
07:03 that they actually pointed the head of the animal
07:05 toward the Ark which they couldn't see,
07:07 but they knew it was inside the Most Holy Place
07:10 where the law was that they had broken
07:12 and they pointed the head of the animal toward that Ark
07:15 and then they confessed their sin.
07:18 Whichever sin it was
07:19 of breaking one of the Ten Commandments,
07:21 they confessed their sins over the animal.
07:23 And then the priest handed the person a knife
07:28 and he himself had to take the knife
07:30 and put it under the throat of the animal
07:33 and then slice it which would be,
07:35 I'm sure very difficult for many to do.
07:38 I'm an animal lover
07:39 and it would be very difficult for me to do it,
07:41 but the Israelites were commanded
07:43 that's what they must do and the death of the animal
07:47 and the blood being shed,
07:49 ultimately it represented the coming Messiah,
07:51 the coming of Jesus Christ
07:53 who would be the real sacrifice,
07:55 the real lamb of God
07:57 who would take away the sin of the world.
07:59 And so basically what was happening
08:01 in this symbolic ritual
08:03 was that if the sinner broke the Ten Commandments,
08:06 he had the animal representing Jesus,
08:09 he put his hands on its head and confessed his sins over it
08:12 representing the sin being transferred
08:14 to the innocent victim
08:16 and then the knife and killing the animal
08:18 represented Calvary where Jesus Christ would die
08:22 for the sins of the world,
08:24 where we have broken the law of God.
08:26 Now, then what happened was the priest
08:28 would have a little, a little basin
08:29 and he put the basin
08:31 underneath the neck of the animal
08:32 and the blood would drip into the basin
08:35 and then he would take the basin full of blood
08:37 and he would pass through the first veil,
08:40 he would go into the Holy Place
08:43 and he would sprinkle that blood
08:45 either at the base of the Golden Altar
08:49 of incense right next to the veil
08:51 going into the most Holy Place
08:54 or he would put it with his finger
08:56 on the different horns,
08:57 there were four horns on the altar.
08:59 And this in a symbolic way
09:01 represented the sin being transferred
09:03 from the sinner to the animal into the blood
09:06 and then carried by the priests
09:08 and deposited inside of the sanctuary.
09:12 And this happened day after day.
09:13 It was something that they did
09:15 throughout the course of the Hebrew year.
09:19 Until finally, there was a special day
09:22 which was called the Day of Atonement.
09:26 The Jewish people today call it Yom Kippur,
09:28 normally in the Jewish calendar it comes in October,
09:31 and in Old Testament days, that day, the Day of Atonement
09:35 which really means the day of at-one-ment
09:38 where the sin was going to be completely removed
09:41 from the entire camp of Israel.
09:43 That day was a very, very special day,
09:46 it was a sacred day, it was a holy day
09:48 and the Israelites had to get ready for that day,
09:51 and that was the day of the...
09:52 were the sanctuary and the people
09:54 were supposed to be cleansed from the sin
09:57 that had been going in there day by day
10:00 during the ritual service.
10:03 Ten days before the Day of Atonement
10:05 which fell upon, the Day of Atonement
10:08 fell on the tenth day of the seventh month
10:10 and ten days prior to that, there was a special day
10:14 called the day of the blowing of the trumpets.
10:16 And the priests would blow these horns very loudly
10:20 to alert the Israelite people
10:23 that the Day of Atonement was coming,
10:25 the big day was coming
10:26 and they needed to search their hearts,
10:28 confess their sins and to get ready
10:30 for the day of the cleansing of the sanctuary,
10:33 and the day of the cleansing
10:35 of cleansing their own their own hearts from sin.
10:38 The Day of Atonement is described
10:40 in the book of Leviticus Chapter 16.
10:43 This is probably the greatest most comprehensive chapter
10:46 in the Bible describing the day of Yom Kippur.
10:50 And what happened was, there were a number of things,
10:52 but one of the most important acts
10:54 was that the high priest,
10:57 not just the normal priest but the high priest,
10:59 he would take an animal,
11:01 a sacrifice and he would kill that animal
11:04 and then he would catch the blood
11:07 and he would take it not just into the holy place
11:09 which is what the regular priest did every day,
11:11 but he would now go into through the second veil,
11:15 he would go into the most holy place into the room
11:19 where the Shekinah was,
11:20 where the presence of God was shining.
11:23 And in order for the priest to do that,
11:25 he had to go through
11:26 a very deep spiritual preparation
11:28 because you don't just walk
11:29 into the presence of God unprepared.
11:32 There is a Jewish tradition that says
11:36 that the high priest would put a some kind of a rope
11:42 tied around his leg
11:43 so that if he wasn't spiritually prepared
11:45 when he walked into the most holy place
11:47 on the Day of Atonement into the presence of God,
11:49 and if he got struck down and if he died,
11:52 none of the Israelites or none of the other priests
11:54 would dare to just walk into the most holy place
11:57 into the presence of God by themselves.
12:01 And so, if he didn't come out for a long time,
12:04 they would assume that he had died,
12:06 and so the rope extended out through the sanctuary
12:09 and they would then pull the rope
12:10 and they would pull him out.
12:12 Now, to be honest I'm not sure
12:14 whether that actually happened or not,
12:16 but this is a tradition that this is what they did
12:20 because it was such as a sacred day
12:22 and, you know, the priest just might not make it
12:25 unless he was spiritually prepared.
12:27 Now, on the Day of Atonement this is what he did.
12:29 It's described in Leviticus 16:14,
12:33 the Bible says that,
12:35 "The high priest shall take of the blood of the bullock,
12:38 and he will sprinkle it with his finger
12:41 upon the mercy seat eastward,
12:44 and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood
12:48 with his finger seven times."
12:51 Seven is God's perfect number
12:53 and putting the blood on top of the mercy seat seven times,
12:57 represented a special form of cleansing.
13:00 And in verse 19,
13:01 it tells us that the cleansing had to do with the cleansing
13:05 first of all of the sanctuary itself,
13:07 because the sin was going from the person to the animal,
13:10 into the blood through the priest carrying it in
13:13 and then being deposited in the sanctuary
13:15 that represented the sanctuary being defiled
13:18 and that sin and defilement needed to be removed
13:22 which happened on the Day of Atonement.
13:24 Verse 19 says, "He shall sprinkle
13:26 some of the blood upon it with his finger seven times,
13:30 and he will cleanse it."
13:32 So the cleansing had to do first of all with the building,
13:35 he would "cleanse it and hallow it
13:37 from the uncleanness of the children of Israel."
13:40 But if you go down to verse 30,
13:43 it tells us that on the tenth day
13:44 of the seventh month,
13:46 verse 30 says, "On that day shall the priest,
13:48 referring to the high priest, make an atonement for you,"
13:52 and this is referring to the people,
13:54 "to cleanse you,
13:56 that you may be clean from all of your sins
14:00 before the Lord."
14:02 So the Day of Atonement was a special day
14:04 to cleanse not just the sanctuary
14:06 but the people themselves from all of their sins
14:11 so they could be completely clean
14:12 before the Lord.
14:15 What happened was all of those sins
14:16 were represented as being picked up from the sanctuary
14:20 and then they were deposited upon the head of a goat,
14:24 a live goat representing the Satan
14:26 and that live goat wasn't sacrificed,
14:28 because it didn't represent Jesus
14:29 but it represented the devil and the priest would then,
14:32 the high priest would take those sins,
14:34 put them on the head of the goat
14:35 and the goat would be led out into the wilderness to die.
14:39 And so, you have really the whole plan of salvation
14:41 described in this symbolic ritual service.
14:46 And the heart of it had to do
14:48 with the cleansing of the sanctuary
14:51 outside of the tabernacle,
14:53 when the high priest was in the most holy place,
14:55 the Israelites were instructed to humble their hearts,
14:57 to afflict their souls, to confess their sins,
14:59 and to ask God to completely cleanse them
15:02 from all their sins of breaking the Ten Commandments.
15:05 And so when the priest was cleansing the sanctuary,
15:08 they were supposed to ask God to cleanse them.
15:12 So that they would be clean before the Lord.
15:15 And if they refused to do this,
15:16 if they refused to humble their hearts
15:18 and confess their sins
15:19 and seek through the blood of the sacrifice
15:21 to line up with the Ten Commandments,
15:24 then the Bible tells us
15:26 that they were to be cut off from the people.
15:29 So the Day of Atonement
15:30 was really not just a day of cleansing,
15:32 but it was also a Day of Judgment
15:35 and separation of the people that refused to participate,
15:40 they would be separated from the camp of Israel.
15:44 Now, what does all this have to do with you and me,
15:47 and what does this have to do with Bible Prophecy,
15:49 and what does this have to do
15:50 with the longest prophecy in the Bible?
15:53 Well, we'll find out.
15:54 Let's turn to the Book of Daniel.
15:57 Daniel is a counterpart to Revelation.
16:00 Daniel is really the revelation of the Old Testament
16:03 that works together and fits together
16:07 with the Book of Revelation in the new.
16:09 Daniel's book contains many prophecies
16:12 that Daniel Chapter 8 contains
16:13 a very amazing series of revelations
16:18 concerning a ram and a goat and then a horn,
16:23 and then finally, there is a vision
16:25 concerning the cleansing of the sanctuary.
16:28 In Daniel 8:14, this is what the Bible says,
16:35 "The angel said to Daniel, he said unto me,
16:38 Unto two thousand and three hundred days,"
16:43 here's the 2300 day prophecy,
16:47 "then shall the sanctuary be cleansed."
16:52 So we read in the Old Testament
16:54 about the year of the Jewish people
16:57 what happened during the regular service,
16:59 what happened during the Day of Atonement,
17:01 when the sanctuary was to be cleansed,
17:03 cleansed which represented the Day of Judgment
17:05 and the separation of sin from the people of God.
17:08 So they could line up with the Ten Commandments
17:11 as a result of the blood.
17:13 And all of this has deep significance.
17:16 When we go to Daniel,
17:17 there's a prophecy in Daniel 8:14,
17:20 that there would be some kind of a 2300 day period
17:24 and then the sanctuary would be cleansed.
17:28 There'd be a cleansing of the sanctuary,
17:30 again that's connected to biblical prophecy.
17:33 Now, in verse 15,
17:35 what happens is Daniel is trying to figure out
17:38 what this vision is all about,
17:39 what this cleansing of the sanctuary is all about.
17:41 In verse 15 it says, "It came to pass when I,
17:44 even I Daniel, had seen this vision,"
17:46 I was searching for the meaning
17:49 which is something that we need to be doing,
17:50 searching for the meaning,
17:52 "and then, behold, there stood before me
17:54 like the appearance of a man."
17:56 As Daniel was trying to figure this out,
17:57 all of a sudden this being stood in front of him
18:00 which look like a man, but when you keep reading,
18:02 you find out that it was actually the angel Gabriel,
18:06 "And then I heard a man's voice Daniel said
18:07 between the banks of the Ulai, which was a river
18:10 where he saw this vision and the voice called
18:13 and said to this being standing in front of Daniel,
18:16 the voice said, "Gabriel,
18:18 make this man to understand the vision."
18:22 So Gabriel is commissioned
18:24 to go to Daniel and help him understand.
18:27 And verse 17 says, "So he came near,
18:30 Daniel is describing this, where I stood:
18:33 and when he came, I was afraid, and I fell upon my face:
18:38 but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man:
18:43 for at the time of the end shall be the vision."
18:49 Now, this is very significant.
18:51 Here you have Daniel has this vision
18:53 and part of the vision has to do with 2300 days
18:56 and then the sanctuary is going to be cleansed,
18:58 and then Gabriel is commissioned to go to Daniel
19:01 and help him to understand and Gabriel says,
19:05 "Understand, for the time of the end
19:08 shall be the vision."
19:10 So this prophecy about the cleansing of the sanctuary
19:13 is not just for ancient Israel.
19:15 It's not just for an ancient people,
19:16 it's not just for Daniel a long time ago.
19:19 It's a prophecy that has to do with the time of the end,
19:22 and I believe that we are living in that time.
19:25 It's a prophecy that has to do with you and with me.
19:29 Now, not only that but Gabriel is commissioned
19:33 to help Daniel understand this prophecy
19:36 and Gabriel is not a minor angel.
19:39 Gabriel's name is only used a couple times in the Bible.
19:42 He's used in connection with the prophecy
19:45 of the 2300 days in Daniel 8 and also in Daniel 9
19:49 which we'll study about in part two,
19:51 they're connected.
19:52 And then Gabriel is also mentioned
19:54 in Luke Chapter 1 in the New Testament.
19:57 And when you read Luke 1, it's amazing to discover that,
20:01 that Gabriel was actually the angel
20:04 that appeared to an old priest name Zechariah
20:08 inside the Jewish temple
20:10 and Gabriel announced to Zechariah,
20:14 that he was going to have a son
20:17 and the name of his son was going to be John the Baptist,
20:20 John the Baptist.
20:22 So Gabriel doesn't go on minor missions.
20:24 Gabriel an announced to him that he was going to have a son
20:29 that would prepare the way for the Lord in verse 17,
20:32 "The angel said to Zachariah, he will go before him
20:36 in the spirit and power of Elias,
20:38 to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,
20:40 and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,
20:43 to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
20:47 So Zechariah son was to get people ready for Jesus to come.
20:53 And in verse 19, "Gabriel says, I am Gabriel,
20:58 and I'm standing in the presence of God,
21:00 and I am now sent to speak to you,
21:03 and to show you these good tidings."
21:05 Now, when you turn the page or at least I do in my Bible.
21:07 It also tells us that God then sent the same angel
21:13 in verse 26,
21:14 "In the sixth month the angel Gabriel
21:17 was sent from God to a city of Galilee,
21:20 named Nazareth,
21:22 Nazareth to a virgin who was espoused to a man
21:27 whose name was Joseph, of the house of David,
21:29 and the virgins name was Mary."
21:32 And so it was Gabriel
21:34 that announced the birth of John the Baptist
21:36 and then it was Gabriel who told Mary
21:38 that she was going to have a son.
21:42 And that son was going to be Jesus Christ.
21:44 So my point is that whenever Gabriel's name shows up
21:49 we know that it's very, very important.
21:52 Gabriel never goes on minor missions
21:54 it's very possible that I can't prove this,
21:57 but I believe this based upon my study of the Bible.
22:01 That it's probable that Gabriel is the angel
22:05 that took the place of Lucifer when he fell.
22:08 Gabriel His name is in the Bible
22:11 there are generally names of angels in the Bible
22:13 but Gabriel's name is there
22:15 and we know that Lucifer's name is there
22:17 he's an angel that was kicked out of heaven
22:19 he became Satan
22:21 and Gabriel's name is there and Gabriel said,
22:22 he's standing in the presence of God.
22:25 And so this tells me that most likely
22:27 Gabriel took the place of Lucifer when he fell
22:30 and that Gabriel is now the highest angel in heaven
22:33 under God.
22:35 And if that's true again it just speaks to us
22:41 that Gabriel is never sent on minor missions
22:44 that whenever he comes down to heaven
22:46 to do something on Earth.
22:48 It's always a very, very, very important.
22:50 So in Luke 1, he announces the birth of John the Baptist
22:54 and the birth of Jesus Christ.
22:56 And in Daniel Chapter 8,
22:59 it is Gabriel that was sent by God
23:03 to help Daniel understand the vision
23:08 about the cleansing of the sanctuary.
23:11 Let me read this to you again, Daniel 8:14,
23:16 "He said to me,
23:18 to two thousand three hundred days,
23:19 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed."
23:22 Verse 17, Gabriel came to Daniel
23:26 and Gabriel said, "Understand, O son of man:
23:32 for at the time of the end shall be the vision."
23:38 So you put these pieces together
23:39 to look at the Old Testament and the Old Testament tells us
23:42 that in the wilderness Israel
23:44 was supposed to build a sanctuary
23:46 and in that sanctuary there was the courtyard
23:48 where the sacrifices were offered
23:50 there was the holy place, there was the most holy place,
23:53 the ceremony went on throughout the year.
23:56 But on the Day of Atonement
23:57 the high priest went into the most holy place
23:59 with the blood of the sacrifice
24:01 and he sprinkled that blood on the golden lid
24:04 underneath of which was the Ten Commandments
24:08 and that represented a cleansing of the Israelites
24:11 from their sins of breaking God's law.
24:15 And that history
24:17 is then brought in to the Book of Daniel
24:21 and Daniel Chapter 8
24:22 one of the most powerful prophecies in the Bible
24:26 which as we'll see in part two
24:28 is really the longest prophecy in the Bible
24:31 the twenty three hundred days,
24:32 which takes us all the way down to the time of the end
24:35 and Gabriel said,
24:37 that Daniel was supposed to understand this prophecy
24:41 and we're supposed to understand it
24:43 and ultimately, we will see
24:45 that it points down to the final days
24:47 where Jesus Christ in his office as High Priest
24:54 in the heavenly sanctuary is doing a special work
24:57 to cleanse God's people once again from their sins
25:02 before he returns
25:03 your sins of breaking the Ten Commandments.
25:06 And I'll explain more about this in part two.
25:09 But let's just quickly look at Revelation Chapter 1:5,
25:14 it says that, "Jesus loved us and washed us from our sins
25:18 in His own blood."
25:20 The heart of Revelation is the blood of Jesus.
25:23 And in Revelation Chapter 11:19,
25:28 John is taken into the heavenly temple,
25:31 "The temple of God was opened in heaven,
25:34 and there was seen in his temple
25:36 the ark of his testament:
25:38 and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings,
25:40 and a great earthquake, and great hail."
25:43 So here we have a vision into the heavenly temple
25:45 and the ark is seen and then in Chapter 14:12, John saw,
25:52 "Here is the patience of the saints:
25:54 here are they that keep the commandments of God,
25:56 and the faith of Jesus."
25:58 Just like in the Old Testament in the on the Day of Atonement,
26:01 God worked to cleanse the people from their sins
26:04 of breaking His Law and in the Book of Revelation.
26:07 in the Book of Revelation
26:08 there is a similar cleansing going on
26:10 in the last days in the time of the end
26:12 to prepare people for Jesus coming.
26:14 And that cleansing will result in a people,
26:18 who as the Bible says,
26:20 "Keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus."
26:25 I want to be part of this people
26:26 and I hope that you do too.
26:28 And as we move into the longest time prophecy
26:31 in the Bible part two.
26:33 You'll understand the beginning.
