00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I am Kelly Mowrer. And I'll be reading today
00:21 from the King James Version. But before we go to the word,
00:24 let's go to God in prayer. Oh, my Father, thank you so much
00:30 for these beautiful words that you've given to us -
00:32 words of life and hope and joy, and comfort. And now as we open
00:38 your word together and spend this time with You,
00:40 may these words take on new life and new meaning for us today,
00:44 to give us strength and give us everything we need
00:48 to bring honor and glory to your name; to be the people that you
00:52 created us to be. We love you and we ask all of this in the
00:55 name of Jesus. Amen. - I'm reading from the book of Matthew
00:59 the King James Version, chapter seventeen. And Jesus has just
01:03 taken James and Peter and John up to the mountain. Let's begin
01:07 with verse three. - And behold, there appeared unto them Moses
01:12 and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto
01:17 Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us
01:21 make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and
01:25 one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud
01:30 overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud,
01:34 which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased;
01:40 hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell
01:44 on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and
01:49 touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they
01:53 had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
01:57 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them,
02:01 saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man
02:06 be risen again from the dead. And his disciples asked him,
02:10 saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
02:15 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall
02:19 first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you,
02:22 that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have
02:28 done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the
02:32 Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood
02:37 that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. And when they were
02:41 come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man,
02:43 kneeling down to him, and saying Lord, have mercy on my son:
02:47 for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth
02:51 into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to
02:55 thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus
02:59 answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how
03:03 long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?
03:06 bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil;
03:11 and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that
03:15 very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart,
03:20 and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto
03:24 them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye
03:29 have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
03:33 mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall
03:36 remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit
03:42 this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
03:46 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of
03:51 man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall
03:55 kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again.
03:58 And they were exceeding sorry. And when they were come to
04:03 Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter,
04:06 and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? He saith, Yes.
04:11 And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him,
04:14 saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings
04:18 of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children,
04:22 or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers.
04:27 Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
04:32 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea,
04:36 and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up;
04:40 and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece
04:43 of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
04:48 - I'm reading from the book of Matthew, chapter eighteen. -
04:52 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying,
04:57 Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
05:00 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the
05:05 midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be
05:10 converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter
05:14 into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall
05:18 humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest
05:22 in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such
05:26 little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso
05:30 shall offend one of these little ones which believe
05:33 in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged
05:37 about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth
05:40 of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must
05:45 needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom
05:50 the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend
05:55 thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better
05:59 for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having
06:03 two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
06:08 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from
06:12 thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye,
06:15 rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
06:20 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones;
06:24 for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always
06:29 behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son
06:33 of man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye?
06:38 if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray,
06:42 doth he not leave the ninety and nine and goeth into the
06:45 mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
06:48 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you,
06:53 he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine
06:57 which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your
07:02 Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should
07:05 perish. Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee,
07:10 go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone:
07:15 if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
07:18 But if he will not hear thee, then take with the one or two
07:22 more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses
07:25 every word may be established.
07:27 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church:
07:31 but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee
07:36 as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto
07:40 you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound
07:43 in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be
07:47 loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you
07:51 shall agree on earth as touching any thing that
07:54 they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father
07:58 which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered
08:02 together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
08:05 Then came Peter unto him and said, Lord, how oft
08:10 shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? till 7 times?
08:15 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times:
08:20 but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom
08:25 of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would
08:29 take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon,
08:32 one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
08:37 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him
08:42 to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had,
08:46 and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down,
08:51 and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me,
08:54 and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant
08:58 was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him
09:02 the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his
09:08 fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid
09:12 hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying Pay me
09:14 that thou owest. And his fellow- servant fell down at his feet,
09:18 and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay
09:21 the all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison,
09:27 till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw
09:31 what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto
09:35 their Lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he
09:39 had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave
09:45 thee all that debt, because thou desirest me: Shouldest not thou
09:50 also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had
09:55 pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the
10:00 tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
10:03 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you,
10:08 if ye from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother
10:13 their trespasses. - reading from the book of Matthew, chapter 19.
10:19 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings
10:24 he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea
10:27 beyond Jordan; and great multitudes followed him;
10:30 and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him
10:34 tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to
10:38 put away his wife for every cause? And he answered
10:41 and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them
10:45 at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this
10:49 cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to
10:53 his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are
10:57 no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined
11:02 together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him
11:06 Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement,
11:10 and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of
11:15 the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away
11:18 your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
11:21 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except
11:25 it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth
11:29 adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit
11:33 adultery. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man
11:38 be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. But he said
11:42 unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they
11:46 unto whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs,
11:49 which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are
11:52 some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be
11:55 eunuchs have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of
11:58 heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it let him receive it
12:03 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should
12:07 put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
12:11 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not,
12:16 to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
12:20 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
12:23 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master,
12:28 what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
12:32 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good?
12:36 there is none good but one, that is God but if thou wilt
12:41 enter into life, keep the commandments.
12:43 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, thou shalt do no murder,
12:49 Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt
12:54 not bear false witness. Honor thy father and thy mother:
12:57 and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
13:00 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept
13:04 from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him,
13:09 If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast,
13:12 and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
13:16 and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying,
13:21 he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
13:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto
13:28 you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom
13:32 of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for
13:35 a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man
13:38 to enter into the kingdom of God. When the disciples heard
13:43 it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then
13:45 can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them,
13:49 With men this is impossible; but with God all things are
13:53 possible. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold,
13:57 we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall
14:01 we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say
14:05 unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration
14:09 when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory,
14:12 ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve
14:16 tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses,
14:20 or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife,
14:23 or children, or lands, for my name's sake shall receive an
14:27 hundred fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
14:30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be
14:34 first. - God bless.
