00:16 Hello and welcome to His Words are Life!
00:18 I'm Kelly Mower and I'll be reading today from 00:22 the King James Version. 00:23 For some times, we've talked about 00:25 the Lord and hearing the Word of God and letting it take root in 00:29 our hearts and today Jesus tells what the person is 00:32 like who actually does hear the Word 00:34 and do the Word. 00:36 But before we begin to read, 00:37 let's go to God and pray. 00:39 Dear heavenly Father, thank You 00:41 so much for the blessings that You have given to us, 00:44 for bringing us safely to this point where we can come 00:47 into Your presence and read Your words, 00:50 and we want to be not just hearers of the word 00:53 but doers of the word. 00:54 We want to be the wise man who builds 00:57 his house on the rock, 00:58 the solid rock of Your Word of life. 01:01 Be with us now and thank You again. 01:03 We love You. Amen. 01:05 I'm reading today from the book of Luke, 01:09 starting in chapter 6 and verse 45: 01:13 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart 01:17 bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man 01:21 out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that 01:24 which is evil: 01:26 for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. 01:30 And why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things 01:35 which I say? 01:38 Whosoever cometh to Me and heareth My sayings 01:40 and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 01:45 He is like a man which built a house 01:47 and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock; 01:51 and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that 01:54 house and could not shake it: 01:57 for it was founded upon a rock. 01:59 But he that heareth and doeth not is like a man that without 02:03 a foundation built a house upon the earth against which the 02:06 stream did beat vehemently and immediately it fell 02:11 and the ruin of that house was great. 02:15 Again, I'm reading from the gospel of Luke 02:18 and we're now on chapter 7. 02:20 Now, when He had ended all His sayings in 02:23 the audience of the people, He entered into Capernaum. 02:27 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him 02:30 was sick and ready to die. 02:32 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto Him the elders of the 02:36 Jews, beseeching Him that He would come and heal his servant. 02:40 When they came to Jesus, they besought Him instantly, saying, 02:45 that he was worthy for whom He should do this: 02:48 for he loveth our nation and he hath built us a synagogue. 02:51 Then Jesus went with them. 02:53 And when He was now not far from the house, 02:56 the centurion sent friends to Him, saying unto Him, 02:59 Lord, trouble not Thyself: for I am not worthy that Thou 03:03 shouldest enter under my roof; 03:05 wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto Thee, 03:08 but say in a word and my servant shall be healed. 03:12 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me 03:16 soldiers and I say unto one, Go and he goeth, and to another 03:20 Come and he cometh, and to my servant, 03:23 Do this and he doeth it. 03:24 When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him and 03:28 turned him about and said unto the people that followed Him, 03:32 I say unto you, I have not found so great faith 03:35 no, not in Israel. 03:38 And they that were sent, returning to the house, 03:41 found the servant whole that had been sick. 03:44 And it came to pass the day after, that He went into 03:48 a city called Nain and many of the disciples went with Him, 03:53 and much people. 03:54 Now when He came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, 03:58 there was a dead man carried out the only son of his mother 04:02 and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. 04:05 And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her 04:10 and said unto her, Weep not. 04:12 And He came and touched the bier and they that bare him 04:16 stood still. And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 04:21 And he that was dead sat up and began to speak. 04:26 And He delivered him to his mother. 04:28 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, 04:34 that a great prophet is risen up among us and that God 04:37 hath visited His people. 04:40 And this rumor of Him went forth throughout all Judea 04:43 and throughout all the region round about. 04:47 And the disciples of John showed Him of all these things. 04:51 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to 04:54 Jesus, saying, Art Thou He that should come? or look we 04:58 for another? 04:59 When the men were come unto Him, they said, John Baptist hath 05:03 sent us unto Thee saying, Art Thou He that should come? 05:07 or look we for another? 05:09 And in that same hour He cured many of their infirmities 05:14 and plagues and of evil spirits and unto many that were blind 05:18 He gave sight. 05:20 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way and tell John 05:25 what things ye have seen and heard: how that the blind see, 05:29 the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the 05:33 dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. 05:37 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in Me. 05:42 And when the messengers of John were departed, He began to 05:46 speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into 05:51 the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 05:54 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? 05:58 Behold they which are gorgeously appareled and live delicately 06:03 are in kings' courts. But what went ye out for to see? 06:08 A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 06:12 This is he of whom it is written Behold, I send my messenger 06:17 before Thy face, which shall prepare Thy way before Thee. 06:22 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women 06:26 there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist, but 06:30 he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 06:34 And all the people that heard Him and the publicans justified 06:40 God being baptized with the baptism of John. 06:43 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God 06:47 against themselves, being not baptized of him. 06:51 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of 06:55 this generation? and to what are they like? 06:58 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace and 07:02 calling one to another and saying, We have piped unto you 07:06 and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you 07:09 and ye have not wept. 07:11 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor 07:15 drinking wine and ye say, He hath a devil. 07:18 The Son of Man is come eating and drinking and ye say, 07:22 Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of 07:25 publicans and sinners! 07:26 But wisdom is justified of all her children! 07:29 And one of the Pharisees desired Him that He would eat with him 07:33 and He went into the Pharisee's house and sat down to meat. 07:36 And behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she 07:40 knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought 07:44 an alabaster box of ointment. 07:48 And stood at His feet behind Him weeping and began to wash 07:52 His feet with tears and did wipe them with the hairs 07:55 of her head and kissed His feet and anointed them 07:58 with the ointment. 08:00 Now, when the Pharisee which had bidden Him saw it, he spake 08:04 within himself, saying, This man if He were a prophet would 08:08 have known who and what manner of woman this is that 08:11 toucheth Him: for she is a sinner. 08:14 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to 08:19 say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. 08:23 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one 08:28 owed five hundred pence and the other fifty. 08:32 And when they had nothing to pay he frankly forgave them both. 08:37 Tell Me therefore, which of them will love him most? 08:41 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he to 08:44 whom he forgave most. And He said unto him, 08:48 Thou hast rightly judged. 08:51 And He turned to the woman and said unto Simon, Seest thou 08:54 this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest Me no water 09:00 for My feet, but she hath washed My feet with tears and 09:04 wiped them with the hairs of her head. 09:08 Thou gavest Me no kiss, but this woman since the time I came in 09:12 hath not ceased to kiss My feet. 09:14 My head with oil thou didst not anoint, but this woman hath 09:20 anointed My feet with ointment. 09:23 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, 09:27 are forgiven; for she loved much, but to whom little is 09:30 forgiven, the same loveth little. 09:33 And He said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. 09:36 And they that sat at meat with Him began to say within 09:40 themselves. Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 09:44 And He said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; 09:48 go in peace. 09:49 And we're reading from the gospel of Luke, chapter 8. 09:53 And it came to pass afterward, that He went throughout 09:56 every city and village preaching and showing the glad tidings 10:01 of the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with Him. 10:04 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits 10:08 and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom 10:11 went seven devils. And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's 10:16 steward and Susanna and many others, which ministered unto 10:20 Him of their substance. And when much people were gathered 10:23 together and were come to Him out of every city, 10:27 He spake by a parable. 10:29 A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed, some fell 10:32 by the way side and it was trodden down and the 10:36 fowls of the air devoured it. 10:38 And some fell upon a rock and as soon as it was sprung up, 10:41 it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 10:44 And some fell among thorns and the thorns sprang up with it 10:49 and choked it. 10:51 And other fell on good ground and sprang up 10:54 and bare fruit an hundredfold. 10:57 And when He had said these things, He cried, He that hath 11:00 ears to hear, let him hear. 11:04 And His disciples asked Him saying, 11:06 What might this parable be? 11:08 And He said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of 11:13 the kingdom of God, but to others in parables, that seeing 11:17 they might not see and hearing they might not understand. 11:21 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 11:25 Those by the way side are they that hear, then cometh 11:29 the devil and taketh away the word out of their hearts, 11:33 lest they should believe and be saved. 11:36 They on the rock are they, which when they hear, receive the 11:41 word with joy and these have no root, which for a while believe 11:46 and in time of temptation fall away. 11:49 And they which fell among thorns are they, which, when they 11:53 have heard, go forth and are choked with cares and riches and 11:58 pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection. 12:02 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and 12:05 good heart, having heard the word, keep it and bring 12:09 forth fruit with patience. 12:12 No man, when he hath lighted a candle covereth it with a vessel 12:16 or putteth it under a bed, but setteth it on a candlestick 12:20 that they which enter in may see the light. 12:23 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; 12:26 neither any thing hid that shall not be known and come abroad. 12:31 Take heed therefore how ye hear; for whosoever hath, to him 12:36 shall be given and whosoever hath not, from him shall be 12:40 taken even that which he seemeth to have. 12:43 Then came to Him His mother and His brethren and could not 12:47 come at Him for the press. 12:50 And it was told Him by certain which said, Thy mother and Thy 12:53 brethren stand without, desiring to see Thee. 12:56 And He answered and said unto them, My mother and My brethren 13:00 are these which hear the word of God and do it. 13:04 Now it came to pass on a certain day that He went into a ship 13:08 with His disciples and He said unto them, Let us go over unto 13:12 the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. 13:15 But as they sailed He fell asleep, and there came down a 13:19 storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and 13:22 were in jeopardy. 13:23 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying: 13:26 Master, Master, we perish. Then He arose and rebuked 13:31 the wind and the raging of the water 13:32 and they ceased and there was a calm. 13:35 And He said unto them, Where is your faith? 13:39 And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, 13:42 What manner of man is this! for He commandeth even the winds 13:46 and water and they obey Him. 13:49 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over 13:53 against Galilee. 13:54 And when He went forth to land, there met Him 13:56 out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time and 14:01 ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 14:05 When He saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him and 14:09 with a loud voice said, What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, 14:14 Thou Son of God most high? I beseech Thee, torment me not. 14:18 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. 14:22 For oftentimes it had caught him and he was kept bound with 14:26 chains and in fetters and he brake the bands and was driven 14:29 of the devil into the wilderness. 14:32 Thank you for joining me today to read the Word of God! 14:35 Good-bye! |
