00:16 Hi, and welcome again to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer. And today we will be reading from the book
00:21 of Romans. But before we begin, let's pray together.
00:24 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for your love and for your grace
00:30 and thank you for your law. And write that on our hearts.
00:35 As we read today, the words of Paul about law and grace,
00:40 give us a deeper understanding. We know without your mercy,
00:44 none of us would even be here. We know that without your grace,
00:47 we would never see you. But we don't want to make the mistake
00:52 of thinking that what your grace started we can somehow finish
00:55 but nor do we want to scorn the need to be obedient
01:00 to what you've told us. So give us an understanding as we read
01:03 today that we might server you better. We love you so much.
01:07 Amen. Again, I am reading today from the King James version
01:12 in the book of Romans, chapter 2 and starting with verse 13.
01:16 For not the hearers of the law are just before God;
01:21 but the doers of the law shall be justified.
01:25 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature
01:30 the things contained in the law, these, having not the law,
01:34 are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written
01:39 in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness,
01:42 and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing
01:47 one another; - In the day when God shall judge the secrets
01:52 of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
01:55 Behold, thou art called a Jew and restest in the law,
01:59 and makest thy boast of God, and knowest his will, and approvest
02:04 the things that are more excellent, being instructed
02:07 out of the law and art confident that thou thyself art a guide
02:12 of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
02:15 and instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes,
02:18 which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth
02:22 in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another,
02:26 teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not
02:32 steal, dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man should not
02:39 commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery?
02:42 thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
02:46 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking
02:50 the law dishonourest thou God? For the name of God
02:54 is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you,
02:57 as it is written. For circumcision verily profiteth,
03:02 if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law,
03:06 thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
03:08 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of
03:13 the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted
03:17 for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision
03:21 which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge thee,
03:25 who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress
03:28 the law? for he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly;
03:33 neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
03:37 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision
03:43 is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter;
03:47 whose praise is not of men, but of God.
03:51 We're reading today from the book of Romans,
03:54 the King James version, beginning now in chapter three
03:57 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of
04:02 circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them
04:08 were committed the oracles of God.
04:10 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief
04:15 make the faith of God without effect? God forbid:
04:18 Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written,
04:24 That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings,
04:28 and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
04:30 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God
04:35 what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance
04:40 - I speak as a man - God forbid: for then how shall God judge
04:46 the world? For if the truth of God hath more abounded through
04:50 my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
04:56 And not rather - as we be slanderously reported
05:00 and as some affirm that we say - Let us do evil, that good
05:04 may come? whose damnation is just. What then?
05:08 Are we better than they? No in no wise: for we have before
05:14 proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
05:19 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
05:24 There is none that understandeth there is none that seeketh after
05:30 God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together
05:35 become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no not one
05:41 Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues
05:44 they have used deceit; the poison of asps
05:48 is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing
05:51 and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood:
05:55 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
05:58 And the way of peace have they not known:
06:01 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
06:04 Now we know that what things so ever the law saith,
06:08 it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth
06:12 may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty
06:15 before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law
06:19 there shall no flesh be justified in his sight:
06:23 for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
06:27 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested,
06:33 being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
06:35 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of
06:39 Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe:
06:44 for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short
06:48 of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace
06:53 through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath
06:57 set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
07:02 to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins
07:05 that are past, through the forbearance of God;
07:09 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness:
07:13 that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth
07:18 in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded.
07:22 By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
07:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith
07:33 without the deeds of the law. Is he the God of the Jews only?
07:37 Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
07:42 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision
07:47 by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
07:50 Do we then make void the law through faith?
07:53 God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
07:58 We're reading again from the book of Romans,
08:01 beginning now in chapter 4. What shall we say then
08:05 that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh,
08:08 hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works,
08:11 he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
08:15 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God,
08:20 and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
08:23 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace,
08:28 but of debt. But to him that worketh not,
08:32 but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly,
08:35 his faith is counted for righteousness.
08:38 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man,
08:43 unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
08:47 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven,
08:50 and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man
08:53 to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
08:56 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only,
09:01 or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith
09:05 was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
09:07 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision,
09:12 or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision,
09:16 but in uncircumcision.
09:18 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the
09:23 righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised:
09:27 that he might be the father of all them that believe,
09:32 though they be not circumcised; that righteousness
09:37 might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision
09:41 to them who are not of the circumcision only,
09:44 but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father
09:48 Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
09:52 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world,
09:56 was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law,
10:00 but through the righteousness of faith.
10:04 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void,
10:08 and the promise made of none effect: Because the law
10:12 worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
10:17 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace;
10:22 to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed;
10:26 not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is
10:31 of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
10:34 - As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, -
10:39 before him whom he believed, even God,
10:43 who quickeneth the dead and calleth those things
10:46 which be not as though they were.
10:49 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the
10:54 father of many nations according to that which was spoken,
10:58 so shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered
11:04 not his own body, now dead, when he was about 100 years old,
11:08 neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:
11:11 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief;
11:15 but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.
11:19 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised,
11:24 he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him
11:31 for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone,
11:35 that it was imputed to him; but for us also,
11:38 to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up
11:44 Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered
11:47 for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
11:51 Reading again, the book of Romans, chapter 5
11:55 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God
12:01 through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access
12:06 by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope
12:11 of the glory of God. And not only so,
12:14 but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that
12:18 tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience;
12:22 and experience, hope; and hope maketh not ashamed;
12:27 because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
12:31 by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
12:33 For when we were yet without strength, in due time
12:37 Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man
12:42 will one die: yet peradventure for a good man
12:45 some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love
12:50 toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
12:54 Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified
12:59 by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
13:03 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God
13:07 by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled,
13:11 we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy
13:17 in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now
13:21 received the atonement. Wherefore, as by one man
13:25 sin entered into the world, and death by sin;
13:27 and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned;
13:31 - For until the law, sin was in the world: but sin is
13:34 not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned
13:38 from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned
13:43 after the similitude of Adam's transgression,
13:45 who is the figure of him that was to come.
13:47 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift.
13:52 For is through the offence of one, many be dead,
13:56 much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace,
14:00 which is by one man, Jesus Christ,
14:02 hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned
14:08 so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation,
14:12 but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
14:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one;
14:21 much more they which receive abundance of grace
14:24 and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one,
14:28 Jesus Christ. - Until we come together again
14:32 may you know the joy of his grace. Goodbye.
