00:17 Hi, and welcome again to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer. Today we will be reading from the 00:22 book of Romans, but before we start, let's pray together. 00:25 Dear Jesus, thank you for this book that we're reading 00:30 particularly for those of us who sometimes feel overwhelmed with 00:34 all the ways that we mess up and do what we know is wrong. 00:37 And wonder if your grace can cover even us. 00:42 Thank you for your grace. Thank you for this teaching 00:45 about your grace. Please give us minds and hearts to understand 00:49 it so that we don't somehow pervert it and dishonor you. 00:55 But instead, keep us grateful for your mercy and the desire 01:01 burning in us all the more to serve you better and to show you 01:03 how much we love you. Thank you again. Amen. 01:06 Again I am reading this from the King James Version, 01:09 in the book of Romans, chapter 5 and we're starting with verse 18 01:13 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men 01:19 to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one, 01:23 the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 01:28 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, 01:33 so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 01:38 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. 01:43 But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 01:48 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign 01:53 through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ 01:57 our Lord. - We're reading again the Book of Romans chapter 6. - 02:01 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, 02:06 that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, 02:10 that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 02:13 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus 02:17 Christ were baptized into his death? 02:20 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; 02:24 that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory 02:27 of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 02:33 For if we have been planted together in the likeness 02:36 of his death, we shall be also in the likeness 02:39 of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man 02:44 is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, 02:48 that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead 02:53 is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, 02:58 we believe that we shall also live with him. 03:01 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead 03:04 dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 03:08 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: 03:12 but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye 03:19 also ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, 03:23 but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 03:27 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, 03:31 that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 03:34 Neither yield ye your members as instruments 03:38 of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, 03:42 as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as 03:45 instruments of righteousness unto God. 03:48 For sin shall not have dominion over you: 03:51 for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 03:55 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law 03:59 but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom 04:04 ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are 04:09 to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience 04:14 unto righteousness? But God be thanked, 04:17 that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed 04:21 from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you 04:25 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants 04:29 of righteousness. I speak after the manner of men 04:33 because of the infirmity of your flesh: 04:35 for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness 04:39 and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members 04:44 servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the 04:49 servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness, 04:52 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now 04:56 ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 04:59 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God 05:04 ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end 05:08 everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; 05:12 but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ 05:15 our Lord. - reading chapter seven, in the book of Romans. - 05:20 Know ye not, brethren, - for I speak to them that know the law- 05:24 how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 05:29 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law 05:33 to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband 05:36 be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 05:40 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married 05:44 to another man, she shall be called and adulteress: 05:48 but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; 05:52 so that she is no adulteress, though she be married 05:54 to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become 05:58 dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be 06:02 married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, 06:06 that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 06:09 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, 06:14 which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth 06:19 fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, 06:23 that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve 06:27 in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of the letter. 06:30 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. 06:35 Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law; 06:38 for I had not known lust except the law had said, 06:42 Thou shalt not covet. But sin taking occasion 06:46 by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. 06:51 For without the law sin was dead. 06:53 For I was alive without the law once: 06:56 but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 06:59 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, 07:03 I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion 07:09 by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. 07:13 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, 07:19 and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? 07:25 God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death 07:30 in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment 07:35 might become exceeding sinful. For we know that the law 07:40 is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 07:44 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; 07:52 But what I hate, that do I; If then I do that 07:56 which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 08:01 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 08:06 For I know that in me - that is my flesh, - 08:09 dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; 08:14 but how to perform that which is good I find not. 08:18 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil 08:22 which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not 08:28 it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 08:33 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, 08:38 evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God 08:43 after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, 08:46 warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me 08:51 into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 08:54 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body 08:59 of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 09:04 So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; 09:09 but with the flesh the law of sin. 09:12 We're reading from the book of Romans in the King James version 09:16 We are beginning now chapter eight. 09:18 There is therefore now no condemnation to them 09:23 which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, 09:27 but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life 09:31 in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin 09:35 and death. For what the law could not do, 09:39 in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son 09:44 in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin 09:49 in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law 09:52 might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, 09:56 but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh 10:00 do mind the things of the flesh. 10:03 But they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 10:06 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually 10:11 minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind 10:16 is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the Law of God, 10:20 neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh 10:26 cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, 10:30 but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. 10:34 Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, 10:37 he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead 10:41 because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness 10:45 But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead 10:49 dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead 10:52 shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit 10:55 that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, 10:59 not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 11:03 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: 11:05 but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body 11:10 ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, 11:15 they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit 11:19 of bondage again to fear; but ye have received 11:23 the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 11:26 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, 11:30 that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; 11:35 heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; 11:38 if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also 11:43 glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings 11:47 of this present time are not worthy to be compared 11:50 with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 11:52 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth 11:56 for the manifestation of the sons of God. 11:59 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly 12:03 but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 12:08 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered 12:11 from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty 12:14 of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation 12:19 groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 12:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits 12:27 of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, 12:31 waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 12:36 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: 12:42 for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 12:45 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience 12:51 wait for it. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: 12:56 for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: 12:59 but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us 13:03 with groanings which cannot be uttered. 13:06 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind 13:11 of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints 13:14 according to the will of God. And we know that all things 13:19 work together for good to them that love God, 13:22 to them who are the called according to his purpose. 13:26 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate 13:31 to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the 13:35 firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did 13:41 predestinate, them he also called: 13:43 and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified 13:48 them he also glorified.. What shall we then say 13:54 to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 13:59 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, 14:04 how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 14:08 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? 14:12 It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? 14:17 It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, 14:21 who is even at the right hand of God, 14:23 who also maketh intercession for us. 14:27 Thank you for reading with me today about God's grace 14:31 and mercy. Please join me again next time. |
