00:16 Hi, I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining me today
00:19 for His Words are Life. Before we begin to read,
00:22 Let's pray together. Dear Jesus, thank you so much
00:26 for the words that you have given for us to read today.
00:29 Please put them in our hearts and may they bear fruit
00:33 for your glory. Help us not just to hear them, but to do them,
00:37 we love you so much. Amen.
00:40 Again, thank you for joining me, and we're reading in the book of
00:44 Romans, chapter 15, we'll begin with verse 18,
00:48 and this is the King James version.
00:50 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ
00:55 hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient,
00:58 by word and deed, through mighty signs and wonders,
01:02 by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem,
01:06 and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel
01:10 of Christ. Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel,
01:15 not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another
01:19 man's foundation: but as it is written, To whom he was not
01:24 spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard
01:28 shall understand. For which cause also I have been much
01:33 hindered from coming to you. But now having no more place
01:37 in these parts, and having a great desire these many years
01:41 to come unto you; whensoever I take my journey into Spain,
01:45 I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey,
01:49 and to be brought on my way thitherward by you,
01:53 if first I be somewhat filled with your company.
01:56 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.
02:00 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia
02:04 to make a certain contribution for the poor saints
02:07 which are at Jerusalem. It hath pleased them verily;
02:10 and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been
02:14 made partakers of their spiritual things,
02:16 their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.
02:20 When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed
02:24 to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.
02:27 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the
02:32 fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.
02:34 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's
02:39 sake and for the love of the spirit, that ye strive together
02:42 with me in your prayers to God for me;
02:45 that I may be delivered from them that do not believe
02:49 in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem
02:53 may be accepted of the saints; that I may come unto you
02:56 with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
03:01 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen
03:06 We're reading from the King James version,
03:08 the book of Romans, chapter sixteen.
03:11 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of
03:16 the church which is at Cenchrea. That ye receive her in the Lord,
03:20 as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever
03:23 business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of
03:27 many, and of myself also. Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers
03:32 in Christ Jesus: who have for my life laid down their own
03:36 necks: unto whom not only I give thanks but also all the churches
03:40 of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church
03:44 that is in their house. Salute my well beloved Epaenetus,
03:49 who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ. Greet Mary,
03:53 who bestowed much labour on us. Salute Andronicus and Junia,
03:58 my kinsmen, and my fellow prisoners, who are of note
04:01 among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
04:05 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord. Salute Urbane, our helper
04:11 in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. Salute Apelles
04:16 approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus'
04:20 household. Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of
04:25 the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord.
04:27 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord.
04:31 Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord.
04:35 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.
04:40 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and
04:47 the brethren which are with them. Salute Philologus,
04:51 and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all
04:54 the saints which are with them. Salute one another
04:57 with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
05:01 Now I beseech you brethren, mark them which cause divisions
05:06 and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned;
05:09 and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord,
05:15 Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words
05:18 and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
05:22 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men.
05:26 I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you
05:31 wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
05:35 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet
05:39 shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
05:44 Timotheus my workfellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater
05:50 my kinsmen, salute you. I Tertius, who wrote this epistle,
05:54 salute you in the Lord. Gaius mine host, and of the whole
05:59 church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city
06:03 saluteth you, and Quartus a brother.
06:05 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
06:10 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according
06:15 to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according
06:18 to the revelation of the mystery
06:20 which was kept secret since the world began,. But now is made
06:24 manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to
06:28 the commandment of the everlasting God,
06:30 made known unto all nations for the obedience of faith:
06:33 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ
06:38 forever. Amen. We're reading from the King James version, and
06:43 beginning the 1st epistle of Paul to the Corinthians,
06:46 chapter one: Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ
06:52 through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
06:55 unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are
06:59 sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints,
07:02 which all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus
07:06 Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours; Grace be unto you,
07:10 and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
07:14 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God
07:19 which is given you by Jesus Christ; that in every thing
07:22 you are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
07:26 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
07:30 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming
07:34 of our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall also confirm you
07:38 unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord
07:41 Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called
07:45 unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
07:49 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus
07:53 Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no
07:58 divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together
08:02 in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been
08:06 declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of
08:09 the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
08:13 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul;
08:18 and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
08:24 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you?
08:27 or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God
08:31 that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
08:34 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
08:37 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas:
08:40 besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For Christ
08:45 sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with
08:48 wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of
08:51 none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them
08:55 that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved
08:59 it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the
09:03 wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing
09:05 the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise?
09:08 Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world?
09:12 Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
09:15 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew
09:21 not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching
09:26 to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign,
09:31 and the Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ
09:35 crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto Greeks
09:39 foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks
09:44 Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
09:49 because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;
09:52 and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
09:55 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many
10:00 wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble,
10:04 are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world
10:08 to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things
10:13 of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
10:16 And base things of the world, and things which are despised,
10:20 hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not,
10:24 to bring to naught things that are: that no flesh should glory
10:29 in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus,
10:34 who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness
10:39 and sanctification, and redemption: that according
10:43 as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory
10:46 in the Lord. We are reading from I Corinthians, chapter 2,
10:51 this is the King James version. And I, brethren, when I came
10:56 to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom,
10:59 declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to
11:04 know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
11:09 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear,
11:13 and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was
11:17 not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration
11:22 of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand
11:26 in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Howbeit we speak
11:32 wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom
11:35 of this world, nor of the princes of this world,
11:38 that come to naught: but we speak the wisdom of God
11:41 in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained
11:45 before the world unto our glory. Which none of the princes of
11:50 this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have
11:53 crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written,
11:56 Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard neither have entered into
12:00 the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
12:03 for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us
12:07 by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea,
12:11 the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a
12:16 man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so
12:20 the things of God knoweth no man but the Spirit of God.
12:24 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the
12:29 spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are
12:33 freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak,
12:38 not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth,
12:41 but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual
12:45 things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not
12:50 the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto
12:53 him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
12:57 discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things,
13:01 yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind
13:06 of the Lord, that he may instruct him?
13:08 But we have the mind of Christ.
13:11 We are reading in the book of I Corinthians, chapter 3.
13:16 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual
13:20 but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
13:24 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto
13:28 ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
13:32 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you
13:36 envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal,
13:40 and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another
13:46 I am of Apollos, are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul,
13:50 and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed,
13:54 even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos
13:59 watered; but God gave the increase.
14:02 So then neither is he that planteth any thing,
14:06 neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
14:09 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man
14:14 shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
14:18 For we are labourers together with God:
14:21 ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
14:25 Thank you for coming apart with me today,
14:28 to read the words of God. Until we're together again,
14:30 may the God of hope keep you in peace
14:33 through Christ Jesus our Lord.
