00:15 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life. I'm Kelly Mowrer
00:18 and thank you for being with us today to read the Bible. 00:22 Before we start Let's pray together. 00:24 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for the word that is a lamp 00:28 to our feet. It seems like there are a lot of things that could 00:33 play into decisions that we make. There are people telling 00:36 us opinions, there are messages in the media and all around us. 00:40 There are ways that we could get off your path; but help us in 00:44 the reading of Your Word, to not wander from your path, but that 00:48 these words will keep our feet safe and firm on solid ground. 00:51 We want to build our lives on You. We love you so much. 00:54 Thank You. Amen. 00:56 We are reading today from 1 Corinthians chapter 10, 01:01 and Paul is talking here about different ways that we can 01:05 help our brothers and sisters, who may be weak in conscience. 01:09 Even though things may not seem a problem to us, 01:14 if they are a problem to others we should gladly 01:16 bear that burden and not worry about the freedom that we have 01:20 in Christ, to do whatever we want, but rather be looking to 01:23 others to do what will be building them up in their faith. 01:27 We are starting now with verse 29, 01:30 and I'm reading from the King James Version. 01:33 Again 1 Corinthians, chapter 10, and beginning with verse 29. 01:36 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: 01:41 for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? 01:45 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of 01:51 for that for which I give thanks? 01:53 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, 01:58 do all to the glory of God. Give none offense, 02:02 neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, 02:06 nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men 02:09 in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of 02:14 many, that they may be saved. And now we're starting with 02:19 1 Corinthians chapter 11. Be ye followers of me, even as 02:24 I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that you 02:28 remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, 02:31 as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, 02:34 that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman 02:37 is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 02:40 Every man praying or prophesying having his head covered, 02:45 dishonoreth his head. But every woman that prayeth 02:49 or prophesieth with her head uncovered, dishonored her head: 02:53 for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 02:57 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: 03:01 but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, 03:05 let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his 03:10 head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: 03:14 but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of 03:18 the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the 03:23 woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause 03:27 ought the woman have power on her head because of the angels. 03:31 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the 03:35 woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the 03:39 man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God 03:45 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray 03:50 unto God uncovered? Doth not even nature itself teach you, 03:55 that if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 03:59 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: 04:03 for her hair is given her for a covering. 04:06 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such 04:10 custom, neither the churches of God. Now in this that I declare 04:15 unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the 04:20 better, but for the worse. For first of all when you come 04:24 together in the church, I hear that there be divisions 04:27 among you and I partly believe it. For there must be also 04:32 heresies among you, that they which are approved 04:35 may be made manifest among you. When ye come together therefore 04:40 into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. 04:43 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: 04:47 and one is hungry and one is drunken. What? have ye not 04:51 houses to eat and to drink in? Or despise ye the church of God, 04:56 and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? 05:00 shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 05:04 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto 05:07 that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which He was betrayed 05:12 took bread. And when He had given thanks, he brake it, 05:16 and said, Take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you. 05:22 This do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also 05:28 He took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is 05:32 the new testament in my blood. This do ye as often as ye drink 05:37 it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread and 05:42 drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come. 05:46 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of 05:51 the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood 05:55 of the Lord. But let a man examine himself and so let him 05:59 eat of that bread and drink of that cup. For he that eateth 06:03 and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to 06:07 himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause 06:12 many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 06:16 For if we would judge ourselves we should not be judged. 06:20 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, 06:23 that we should not be condemned with the world. 06:26 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, 06:30 tarry one for another, and if any man hunger, let him 06:34 eat at home that he come not together unto condemnation. 06:37 And the rest will I set in order when I come. 06:40 Continuing now in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. 06:45 Again, I am reading from the King James Version. 06:48 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you 06:53 ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto 06:58 these dumb idols, even as you were led. 07:00 Wherefore I give you to understand that no man, speaking 07:05 by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man 07:09 can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 07:13 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 07:18 And there are differences of administrations, but the same 07:22 Lord. And there are diversities of operations, 07:25 but it is the same God which worketh in all in all. 07:28 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man 07:33 to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit 07:37 the word of Wisdom; to another the word of knowledge 07:40 by the same Spirit; to another, faith, by the same Spirit; 07:45 to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 07:49 and to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; 07:53 to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kind 07:57 of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues; 08:01 but all these worketh that one and the selfsame spirit, 08:06 dividing to every man, severally as he will. For as the body 08:12 is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body 08:17 being many, are one body. So also is Christ. 08:21 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, 08:26 whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, 08:30 and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 08:34 For the body is not one member, but many. 08:37 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the 08:42 body; is it therefore not of the body? 08:45 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, 08:48 I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 08:51 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? 08:55 If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 08:59 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, 09:04 as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, 09:07 where were the body? But now are they many members, 09:10 yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have 09:15 no need of thee: nor again, the head to the feet, I have no need 09:20 of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which 09:24 seem to be more feeble are necessary: And those members of 09:27 the body which we think to be less honorable, upon these 09:32 we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more 09:37 abundant comeliness. For our comely parts have no need: 09:42 but God hath tempered the body together, having given more 09:46 abundant honor to that part which lacked: 09:49 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the 09:53 members should have the same care one for another. 09:57 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; 10:01 or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. 10:05 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 10:10 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, 10:14 secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, 10:18 then gifts of healing, helps, governments, 10:22 diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? 10:27 are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 10:30 Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? 10:33 Do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: 10:39 And yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 10:44 And now the beautiful chapter of 1 Corinthians 13 10:49 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, 10:52 and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a 10:56 tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, 11:00 and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; 11:03 and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, 11:06 and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow 11:11 all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be 11:14 burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 11:18 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; 11:24 charity vaunteth not itself; is not puffed up, doth not behave 11:29 itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, 11:34 thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth 11:39 in the truth; beareth all things believeth all things, 11:44 hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: 11:51 but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; 11:54 whether there be tongues, they shall cease; 11:56 whethere there be knowledge. it shall vanish away. 12:00 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 12:04 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in 12:09 part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, 12:14 I understood as a child, I thought as a child: 12:16 But when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12:20 For now, we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: 12:26 Now I know in part, but then shall I know 12:31 even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, 12:38 these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 12:43 Continuing to read in 1 Corinthians, chapter fourteen. 12:48 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that 12:53 you may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue 12:56 speaketh not unto men but unto God: for no man understandeth 13:00 him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 13:03 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, 13:08 and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown 13:13 tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth 13:17 the church. I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather 13:22 that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth 13:25 than he that speaketh with tongues, except ye interpret, 13:29 that the church may receive edifying. Now brethren, if I 13:33 come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you 13:36 except I shall speak to you either by revelation or 13:39 by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? 13:43 And even these things without live giving sound, whether pipe 13:48 or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, 13:52 how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 13:54 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, 13:57 who shall prepare himself to the battle? So likewise ye, 14:02 except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, 14:06 how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak 14:09 into the air. There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices 14:13 in the world, and none of them is without signification. 14:17 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be 14:20 unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh 14:24 shall be a barbarian unto me. Thank you for being with me 14:28 today, until we are together again, may the God of love 14:31 keep us loving each other and Him more and more. |
