00:15 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we are going to be reading from
00:21 Ephesians. Across the top of the bible it says
00:25 that we will be reading about the purposes of God
00:27 and the love of Christ. Before we read let's pray together.
00:30 Dear God, please open our eyes, our hearts to better understand
00:37 your purposes. We know we can never fully comprehend
00:41 anything about you; but you long to show us truth and you
00:45 long to be know of us and we come here right now together
00:48 to read your word. Please reveal to us what you would have us to
00:52 know and show us also a deeper understanding of the
00:55 love of Jesus, not only so it is a blessing to us but so we can
01:00 become a blessing through him to others.
01:02 We love you so much and we thank you for loving us. Amen.
01:06 I am reading from Ephesians, the King James version,
01:10 and we are in chapter two, starting with verse sixteen.
01:13 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body
01:19 by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby,
01:23 and came and preached peace to you which were afar off,
01:26 and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have
01:31 access by one Spirit unto the Father.
01:33 Now, therefore ye are not more strangers and foreigners,
01:37 but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of
01:41 God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles
01:44 and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief
01:48 corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together
01:52 groweth unto an holy temple in in the Lord:
01:55 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation
01:59 of God through the Spirit.
02:01 Continuing to read Paul's letter to Ephesus,
02:04 we're now on chapter three and this is the King James version.
02:08 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ
02:13 for you Gentiles, if ye have heard of the dispensation
02:16 of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
02:19 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery -
02:23 as I wrote afore in a few words, whereby, when ye read,
02:27 you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ -
02:30 which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men,
02:34 as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets
02:38 by his Spirit; that the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs,
02:42 and of the same body and partakers of his promise in
02:45 Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister,
02:49 according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by
02:54 the effectual working of his power.
02:57 Unto me, who am less than the least of all the saints,
03:00 is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles
03:03 the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see
03:07 what is the fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning
03:11 of the world has been hid in God who created all things
03:14 by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities
03:19 and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church
03:23 the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose
03:28 which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
03:31 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence
03:35 by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my
03:40 tribulations for you, which is your glory.
03:43 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of the Lord
03:47 Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth
03:50 is named that he would grant you according to the riches
03:54 of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit
03:59 in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts
04:03 by faith and that ye being rooted and grounded in love,
04:08 may be able to comprehend with all saints
04:11 what is the breadth and length, and depth and height;
04:15 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,
04:19 that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
04:22 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly
04:27 above all that we ask or think, according to the power
04:31 that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church
04:34 by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
04:40 Continuing to read in Ephesians, chapter four,
04:44 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk
04:49 worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called with all lowliness
04:54 and meekness, with longsuffering forbearing one another in love;
04:59 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit
05:02 in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit,
05:07 even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
05:10 One Lord, one faith, one baptism one God and Father of all,
05:16 who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
05:20 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the
05:24 measure of the gift of Christ, wherefore he saith,
05:27 when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive,
05:31 and gave gifts unto men. - Now that he ascended, what is it
05:36 but that he also descended first into the lower parts
05:39 of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended
05:42 up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. -
05:46 And he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some,
05:51 evangelists; and some pastors and teachers;
05:54 for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry,
05:58 for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come
06:02 in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge
06:05 of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure
06:08 of the stature of the fullness of Christ:
06:10 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro,
06:16 and carried about with every wind of doctrine,
06:18 by the slight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they
06:22 lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love,
06:26 may grow up into him in all things, which is the head,
06:31 even Christ: from whom the whole body fitly joined together
06:35 and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according
06:40 to the effectual working in the measure of every part,
06:42 maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
06:48 This I say therefore and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth
06:53 walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
06:58 having the understanding darkened, being alienated
07:01 from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them,
07:04 because of the blindness of their heart:
07:06 who being past feeling given themselves over
07:10 unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.
07:14 But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have
07:19 heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus
07:23 that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
07:27 which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
07:30 And be renewed in the Spirit of your mind;
07:33 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in
07:37 righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying,
07:41 speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members
07:45 one of another. Be ye angry and sin not: let not the sun go down
07:51 upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.
07:54 Let him that stole, steal no more: but rather let him labor,
08:00 working with his hands the thing which is good that he may have
08:04 to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication
08:10 proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good
08:13 to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace
08:16 unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
08:21 whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
08:23 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor,
08:29 and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
08:33 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving
08:38 one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
08:42 We are reading Paul's letter, Ephesians, chapter five.
08:46 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
08:51 and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us,
08:56 and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice
08:59 to God for a sweet smelling savor. But fornication, and all
09:04 uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among
09:10 you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking
09:15 nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of
09:19 thanks, for this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean
09:24 person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater,
09:27 hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
09:31 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these
09:35 things cometh the wrath of God upon the children
09:38 of disobedience.
09:39 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes
09:44 darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children
09:49 of light: - For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness
09:54 unto righteousness and truth - proving what is acceptable
09:58 unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful
10:02 works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
10:05 for it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done
10:09 of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are
10:13 made manifest by the light. For whatsoever doth make
10:16 manifest, is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that
10:21 sleepeth and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee
10:26 light. See then that thee walk circumspectly, not as fools,
10:31 but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
10:36 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of
10:42 Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
10:46 but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms
10:51 and in hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody
10:55 in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all
10:58 things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus
11:02 Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another
11:06 in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves
11:10 unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband
11:13 is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
11:16 the church, and he is the savior of the body.
11:19 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ,
11:23 so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
11:27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
11:32 and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it
11:36 with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it
11:40 to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
11:44 or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without
11:48 blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.
11:52 He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
11:55 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth
11:59 and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
12:02 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
12:06 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and
12:10 shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
12:14 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ
12:18 and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular
12:22 so love his wife even as himself and the wife
12:26 see that she reverence her husband.
12:29 We are reading Ephesians in the King James version,
12:32 and now chapter six.
12:33 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
12:39 Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment
12:42 with promise; that it may be well with thee,
12:45 and thou mayest live long on the earth.
12:47 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath:
12:49 but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of
12:52 the Lord. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters
12:57 according to the flesh, with fear and trembling,
13:00 in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
13:03 not with eye-service, as menpleasers;
13:07 but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God
13:11 from the heart; with good will doing service as to the Lord,
13:15 and not to men: knowing that whatsoever good thing any man
13:20 doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord,
13:23 whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same
13:26 things unto them, forbearing threatening:
13:29 knowing that your Master also is in heaven;
13:32 neither is there respect of persons with him.
13:35 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power
13:40 of his might. Put on the whole armour of God,
13:44 that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
13:47 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
13:50 but against principalities, against powers,
13:53 against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
13:56 Against spiritual wickedness in high places.
14:00 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
14:05 that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
14:09 and having done all, to stand. As we close this time together,
14:15 I think again of that text, Finally my brethren
14:17 be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
14:21 Until we come together again to read the word of God,
14:24 let's ask Him to give us strength and power to stand and
14:28 witness for Him when necessary. to love as He loved us.
14:32 Thank you for being with me. Goodbye.
