00:16 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life. I am Kelly Mowrer, and
00:19 thank you for coming to read with me today, 00:22 in the wonderful word of God. 00:23 Before we start, let's pray together. 00:24 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for the blessing of these words, 00:29 that can be to us life and hope and peace and joy and comfort. 00:33 Be with us as we read, that we may hear and understand, 00:36 but perhaps even more importantly 00:39 that they will bear fruit, that we may go out and act and be 00:43 for you what you would have us to be. That you will change us 00:46 to be more and more like you, to serve you better, 00:49 so that your name may be glorified in the earth. 00:51 We love you so much, Amen. 00:53 I am reading today from the letter to the church at Ephesus 00:58 that Paul wrote. Ephesians, chapter six, 01:01 and we begin with verse 14. We are going to be reading about 01:05 the armour of God, which is our defense against all that would 01:09 harm us, or destroy us, or tempt us, or make us to fall. 01:13 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, 01:18 having on the breastplate of righteousness; 01:21 and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel 01:25 of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye 01:30 shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 01:33 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, 01:38 which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer 01:41 and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all 01:46 perseverance and supplication for all saints; 01:50 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, 01:53 that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery 01:57 of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: 02:01 that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. 02:05 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, 02:09 Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, 02:13 shall make known to you all things: Whom I have sent 02:17 unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, 02:19 and that he might comfort your hearts, 02:21 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, 02:25 from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 02:28 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ 02:32 in sincerity. Amen. Continuing to read Paul's letter 02:37 to the church at Philippi, the Philippians, chapter one and 02:40 we are in the King James Version. 02:41 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, 02:46 to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, 02:50 with the bishops and deacons: Grace be unto you, and peace, 02:54 from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 02:57 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 03:01 always in every prayer of mine for you all making request 03:05 with Joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day 03:09 until now; being confident of this very thing, that he which 03:15 hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day 03:19 of Jesus Christ: Even as it is meet for me to think this of you 03:24 all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch 03:28 as both in my bonds, and in the defense and confirmation 03:33 of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. 03:37 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all 03:42 in the bowels of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love 03:47 may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 03:52 that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be 03:56 sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled 04:01 with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, 04:04 unto the glory and praise of God but I would ye should understand 04:09 brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out 04:13 rather unto the furtherance of the gospel; 04:15 so that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, 04:19 and in all other places; And many of the brethren in the Lord 04:23 waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak 04:28 the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ 04:32 even of envy and strife; and some also of good will; 04:35 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, 04:39 supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 04:42 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense 04:46 of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, 04:51 whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; 04:55 and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. 04:58 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation 05:02 through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit 05:05 of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation 05:09 and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with 05:13 all boldness as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified 05:19 in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 05:23 For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. 05:28 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: 05:33 Yet what I shall choose I wot not, for I am in a strait 05:38 betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; 05:42 which is far better; Nevertheless to abide 05:46 in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence 05:50 I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your 05:54 furtherance and joy of faith; That your rejoicing may be more 05:59 abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. 06:03 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ 06:08 that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear 06:13 of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit with one mind 06:18 striving together for the faith of the gospel; 06:21 And in nothing terrified by our adversaries: which is to them 06:27 an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, 06:30 and that of God.. For unto you it is given in the behalf of 06:35 Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer 06:39 for his sake; Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, 06:42 and now hear to be in me. We're reading from the book of 06:46 Philippians, in the King James version, now beginning chapter 2 06:50 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, 06:54 if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, 06:58 if any bowels and mercies, fulfill ye my joy, 07:02 that ye be like-minded, having the same love, 07:06 being of one accord of one mind. Let nothing be done 07:10 through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind 07:14 let each esteem other better than themselves. 07:18 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on 07:24 the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also 07:29 in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not 07:34 robbery to be equal with God: But made himself 07:37 of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, 07:41 and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion 07:46 as a man humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, 07:50 even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly 07:55 exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 07:58 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, 08:01 of things in heaven, and things in earth; and things under the 08:05 earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ 08:09 is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, 08:14 as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now 08:20 much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear 08:25 and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you 08:28 both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 08:32 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 08:35 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, 08:39 without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, 08:43 among whom you shine as lights in the world; Holding forth 08:48 the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, 08:52 that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. 08:56 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service 09:00 of your faith, I joy and rejoice with you all. 09:04 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. 09:09 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, 09:13 that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 09:17 For I have no man like-minded, who will naturally care 09:20 for your state. For all seek their own, not the things 09:24 which are Jesus Christ's. But ye know the proof of him, 09:27 that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me 09:31 in the gospel. Him therefore I hope to send presently, 09:36 so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. 09:38 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. 09:43 Yet, I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, 09:47 my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, 09:51 but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. 09:54 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, 09:58 because that ye had heard that he had been sick 10:01 for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: 10:04 But God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also 10:09 lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. I sent him therefore 10:14 the more carefully, that when ye see him again, ye may rejoice 10:18 and that I may be the less sorrowful. 10:21 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; 10:24 and hold such in reputation: Because for the work of Christ 10:28 he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, 10:32 to supply your lack of service toward me. 10:34 Continuing to read from the King James version, 10:37 Philippians, chapter three: Finally, my brethren, 10:41 rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, 10:45 to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. 10:48 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, 10:51 beware of the concision. For we are the circumcision, 10:55 which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, 10:58 and have no confidence in the flesh, 11:00 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. 11:04 If any other man thinketh that hath whereof 11:06 he might trust in the flesh, I more: 11:08 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, 11:12 of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; 11:15 as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting 11:20 the church; touching the righteousness 11:23 which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, 11:28 those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all 11:34 things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of 11:37 Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss 11:41 of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 11:46 and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, 11:49 which is of the law, but that which is through the faith 11:52 of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 11:56 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, 11:59 and the fellowship of his sufferings, 12:01 being made conformable unto his death; 12:04 if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection 12:08 of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, 12:11 either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may 12:16 apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus 12:20 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: 12:25 but this one thing I do, forgetting those things 12:29 which are behind and reaching forth unto those things 12:32 which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize 12:35 of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 12:38 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: 12:42 and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, 12:46 God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, 12:49 whereto we have already attained, let us walk 12:52 by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 12:55 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk 13:00 so as ye have us for an ensample For many walk, of whom I have 13:05 told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the 13:09 enemies cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God 13:13 is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, 13:16 who mind earthly things. - For our conversation is in heaven; 13:21 from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 13:26 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned 13:30 like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby 13:34 he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. 13:38 Chapter 4: Therefore my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, 13:45 my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. 13:51 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, 13:55 that they be of the same mind in the Lord. 13:58 and I entreat thee also, true yoke-fellow, help those women 14:02 which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also 14:05 and with other my fellow- labourers whose names are in 14:07 the book of life. Rejoice in the Lord always: 14:11 and again I say rejoice. Let your moderation be known 14:15 unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; 14:20 but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving 14:24 let your requests be made known unto God. 14:27 And the peace which passeth all understanding, shall keep your 14:31 hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. |
