00:17 Hi, and Welcome to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to be reading 00:22 from the letters to the church in Thessalonica; 00:25 But before we begin, let's pray together. Dear Jesus, 00:30 thank you so much that you have called us your sheep, 00:33 you've been the good shepherd and laid down your life for us. 00:36 And now we want to hear your voice. We want to follow you 00:40 completely and fully and live in the joy of your presence forever 00:45 Please be with us now as we read your word. May these words 00:49 take root in out hearts and our lives to bear fruit to your 00:52 glory. We love you. Amen. 00:54 Again, I'm reading today from the King James Version 00:57 in the 1st book of Thessalonians chapter 5, and picking up with 01:02 verse 22. - Abstain from all appearance of evil. 01:07 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray 01:12 God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless 01:18 unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he 01:23 that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren pray for us. 01:27 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. I charge you by the 01:31 Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. 01:36 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. 01:40 Continuing now in the book of 2nd Thessalonians, 01:44 This is the King James Version, beginning with chapter one. 01:48 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church 01:52 of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus 01:56 Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father 01:59 and the Lord Jesus Christ. We are bound to thank God always 02:04 for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your 02:08 faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you 02:12 all toward each other aboundeth; So that we ourselves glory in 02:17 you in the churches of God for your patience and faith 02:20 in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 02:24 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, 02:28 that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye 02:32 also suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God 02:36 to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 02:39 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus 02:43 shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 02:46 in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, 02:50 and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall 02:55 be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence 02:58 of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come 03:02 to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them 03:06 that believe, because our testimony among you was believed 03:10 in that day. Wherefore also we pray always for you that our God 03:16 would count you worthy of this calling and fulfill all the good 03:20 pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 03:23 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, 03:28 and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord 03:32 Jesus Christ. Continuing in the 2nd book of Thessalonians, 03:38 chapter 2.- Now we beseech you brethren, by the coming of our 03:42 Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 03:46 that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by 03:52 spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that 03:57 the day of Christ is at hand. let no man deceive you by any 04:01 means: for that day shall not come, except there come a 04:04 falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of 04:08 perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that 04:13 is called God or that is worshipped; so that he 04:16 as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is 04:21 God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, 04:26 I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth 04:30 that he might revealed in his time. For the mystery of 04:34 iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, 04:38 until he be taken out of the way and then shall that wicked be 04:42 revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his 04:46 mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming. 04:49 Even him whose coming is after the working of Satan with all 04:53 power and signs and lying wonders and with all 04:57 deceivableness of unrighteousness 04:59 in them that perish; because they received not the love of 05:03 the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God 05:07 shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 05:11 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, 05:15 but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 05:17 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren 05:23 beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning 05:27 chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit 05:30 and belief of the truth: Wherunto he called you 05:35 by our gospel to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus 05:38 Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the 05:43 traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or 05:45 our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God even our 05:51 Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting 05:54 consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your 05:58 hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. 06:02 We're reading in the 2nd letter to the Thessalonians, 06:05 the King James Version, and we're now starting with 06:07 chapter 3. - Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the 06:13 Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with 06:16 you: and that we may be delivered from unreasonable 06:21 and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord 06:26 is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 06:29 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both 06:33 do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord 06:38 direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the 06:41 patient waiting for Christ. Now we command you, brethren, 06:45 in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw 06:48 yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, 06:51 and not after the tradition which he received of us. 06:54 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we 07:00 behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; neither did we eat 07:03 any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labor and 07:07 travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any 07:11 of you: Not because we have not the power, but to make ourselves 07:15 and ensample unto you to follow us. For even when we were with 07:20 you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, 07:24 neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which 07:29 walk among you disorderly, working not at all, 07:32 but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and 07:38 exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, 07:42 and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well 07:48 doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, 07:52 note that man, and have no company with him, 07:55 that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, 08:01 but admonish him as a brother. Now the Lord of peace himself 08:06 give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. 08:10 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token 08:15 in every epistle: so I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus 08:20 Christ be with you all. Amen. 08:22 We're beginning now the first letter to Timothy, chapter 1. 08:28 This is the King James version. 08:29 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment 08:34 of God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; 08:38 unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and 08:43 peace, from God our Father, and Jesus Christ our Lord. 08:47 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went 08:51 into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they 08:55 teach no other doctrine, neither give heed to fables and endless 08:59 genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly 09:04 edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the 09:09 commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good 09:12 conscience, and of faith unfeigned: from which some 09:16 having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 09:21 desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what 09:25 they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the law 09:30 is good, if a man use it lawfully; knowing this, 09:34 that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the 09:37 lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, 09:41 for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers, and 09:44 murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, 09:48 for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, 09:53 for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing 09:56 that is contrary to sound doctrine; according to the 10:00 glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my 10:03 trust. And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, 10:07 for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 10:12 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: 10:16 but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 10:22 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith 10:25 and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful 10:29 saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus 10:33 came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 10:37 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, 10:41 that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all 10:46 longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter 10:49 believe on Him to life everlasting. 10:52 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only 10:57 wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 11:01 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the 11:07 prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest 11:11 war a good warfare; holding faith, and a good conscience; 11:17 which some having put away concerning faith have made 11:22 shipwreck: of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have 11:27 delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. 11:31 We're reading in the first book of Timothy, chapter two. 11:35 And this is the King James Version. 11:37 I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, 11:43 intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 11:48 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a 11:53 quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 11:57 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; 12:02 who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the 12:06 knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one 12:09 mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave 12:14 himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto 12:20 I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, I speak the truth in 12:25 Christ, and lie not; a teacher of the Gentiles in faith 12:29 and verity. I will therefore that men pray every where, 12:33 lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 12:37 in like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest 12:42 apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided 12:46 hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but which becometh 12:52 women professing godliness, with good works. Let the woman learn 12:57 in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to 13:02 teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, 13:04 but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 13:10 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in 13:15 the transgression. Notwithstanding 13:18 she shall be saved in child bearing, if they continue 13:21 in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. 13:25 Continuing in chapter 3 of the first book of Timothy. 13:29 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, 13:35 he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, 13:40 the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good 13:45 behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine 13:51 no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient 13:56 not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own 14:02 house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 14:06 For if a man know not how to rule his own house, 14:10 how shall he take care of the church of God? Not a novice, 14:14 lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation 14:18 of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them 14:22 which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare 14:26 of the devil. - Thank you for being with me today 14:29 to read the word of God. Please come back and join me again 14:32 next time. Goodbye. |
