00:17 Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're reading from the
00:21 book of Titus.
00:22 But before we start let's pray together.
00:25 Dear God, You have promised us that Your word will be a lamp
00:31 to our feet, will be a light on our path.
00:33 And we need that so desperately.
00:36 We're surrounded by people that would deceive us.
00:40 We're surrounded by an enemy that wants us walking in
00:43 darkness, thinking we're walking in the light.
00:46 But we know that if we will follow You; if we will hear Your
00:50 word, You've promised to lead us into all truth, and that Your
00:53 word is truth.
00:54 So please send Your Holy Spirit right now to be with us,
00:57 and to guide us, and to plant these words deep in our lives.
01:01 Thank you so much for loving us.
01:03 We love you so much, too.
01:04 Amen.
01:05 Again, we're reading in the book of Titus, chapter 2, starting
01:10 with verse 9.
01:11 And this is the King James Version.
01:13 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters,
01:18 and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
01:23 not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may
01:28 adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
01:31 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared
01:34 to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly
01:39 lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
01:43 in this present world; looking for that blessed hope,
01:47 and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior
01:50 Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us
01:55 from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people,
02:00 zealous of good works.
02:02 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.
02:07 Let no man despise thee.
02:14 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers,
02:19 to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, to speak
02:25 evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing
02:31 all meekness unto all men.
02:33 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient,
02:38 deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice
02:44 and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
02:47 But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward
02:52 man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have
02:56 done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of
03:05 regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on
03:10 us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior; that being
03:14 justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according
03:18 to the hope of eternal life.
03:20 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou
03:25 affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God
03:29 might be careful to maintain good works.
03:32 These things are good and profitable unto men.
03:35 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions,
03:40 and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
03:45 A man that is an heretic, after the first and second admonition,
03:50 reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth,
03:56 being condemned of himself.
03:59 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent
04:04 to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined
04:07 there to winter.
04:08 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey
04:12 diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
04:15 And let ours also learn to maintain good works
04:19 for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
04:23 All that are with me salute thee.
04:26 Greet them that love us in the faith.
04:29 Grace be with you all.
04:31 Amen.
04:32 (Continuing now, the epistle of Paul the Apostle,
04:37 to Philemon.)
04:38 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother,
04:43 unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow laborer,
04:48 and to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow soldier,
04:52 and to the church in thy house: grace to you, and peace,
04:55 from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
04:58 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
05:03 hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the
05:07 Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; that the communication
05:11 of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging
05:15 of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
05:18 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love,
05:22 because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
05:26 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin
05:31 thee that which is convenient, yet for love's sake I rather
05:35 beseech thee being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also
05:40 a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
05:42 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten
05:47 in my bonds: which in time past was to thee unprofitable,
05:52 but now profitable to thee and to me: whom I have sent again:
05:58 thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: whom I
06:05 would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have
06:09 ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: but without thy
06:13 mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it
06:17 were of necessity, but willingly.
06:21 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season,
06:24 that thou shouldest receive him forever; not now as a servant,
06:29 but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me,
06:34 but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh,
06:37 and in the Lord?
06:38 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
06:44 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee aught, put that on
06:49 mine account; I Paul have written it with mine own hand,
06:53 I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest
06:57 unto me even thine own self besides.
07:00 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my
07:05 bowels in the Lord.
07:06 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee,
07:10 knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
07:13 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that
07:19 through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
07:22 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus;
07:27 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow-laborers.
07:34 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
07:37 Amen.
07:38 (Continuing now with the epistle to the Hebrews, Chapter 1,
07:44 and this is the King James Version.)
07:45 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time
07:51 past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last
07:56 days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of
08:01 all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the
08:06 brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person,
08:10 and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had
08:15 by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the
08:20 Majesty on high; being made so much better than the angels,
08:24 as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent
08:28 name than they.
08:29 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my
08:34 Son, this day have I begotten thee?
08:37 And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be
08:41 to me a Son?
08:42 And again, when he bringeth in the first-begotten into the
08:47 world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
08:51 And of the angels he saith, who maketh his angels spirits,
08:56 and his ministers a flame of fire.
08:58 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever
09:04 and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter
09:08 of thy kingdom.
09:09 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore
09:15 God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness
09:20 above thy fellows.
09:22 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the
09:25 foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works
09:28 of thine hands: they shall perish, but thou remainest:
09:33 and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture
09:37 shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed:
09:40 but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
09:45 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right
09:50 hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
09:52 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister
09:59 for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
10:01 (We're reading from the book of Hebrews, in the King James
10:04 Version, Chapter 2.)
10:06 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things
10:12 which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
10:16 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every
10:20 transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of
10:23 reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation;
10:29 which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was
10:33 confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them
10:38 witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers
10:41 miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost,
10:43 according to his own will?
10:45 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to
10:49 come, whereof we speak.
10:51 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man,
10:56 that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man,
10:59 that thou visitest him?
11:01 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst
11:05 him with glory and honor, and didst set him over the works of
11:08 thy hands: thou hast put all things in subjection
11:11 under his feet.
11:12 For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left
11:17 nothing that is not put under him.
11:19 But now we see not yet all things put under him.
11:24 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels
11:28 for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor;
11:32 that he by the grace of God should taste death
11:35 for every man.
11:36 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all
11:42 things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain
11:47 of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11:50 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all
11:56 of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to
12:00 call them brethren, saying, I will declare thy name unto my
12:05 brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing
12:07 praise unto thee.
12:08 And again, I will put my trust in him.
12:12 And again, Behold I and the children which God
12:16 hath given me.
12:17 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and
12:21 blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same;
12:25 that through death he might destroy him that had the power
12:29 of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through
12:34 fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
12:38 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels;
12:42 but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
12:45 Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like
12:50 unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful
12:55 high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation
13:00 for the sins of the people.
13:01 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted,
13:05 he is able to succor them that are tempted.
13:12 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly
13:17 calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our
13:20 profession, Christ Jesus; who was faithful to him that
13:24 appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
13:29 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses,
13:33 inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honor
13:36 than the house.
13:38 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built
13:42 all things is God.
13:44 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant,
13:49 for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
13:53 but Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we,
13:59 if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope
14:02 firm unto the end.
14:04 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear his
14:10 voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation,
14:13 in the day of temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers
14:17 tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
14:21 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said,
14:24 They do always err in their hearts; and they have not
14:28 known my ways.
14:30 Please join again with me next time to read the word of God.
