00:17 Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and we are
00:21 going to be reading today from the book of Genesis.
00:23 But before we read let's pray together.
00:25 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for Your words.
00:28 You know, we say the phrase "Your Word is life" and
00:31 don't take the time to stop and really think
00:34 what that means to each one of us.
00:35 I know I would just be stumbling along,
00:37 lost, without the words of guidance and wisdom that
00:41 You have given to me in the Bible. All of us would.
00:44 Thank you for these words.
00:45 Be with us now as we read,
00:47 and help us to learn the lessons You want each of us to hear.
00:50 We love You so much, and thank you for loving us. Amen.
00:54 We are reading today from Genesis.
00:56 When we were last together we had started the story of
00:59 Cain and Abel.
01:00 How they had each brought a sacrifice to God
01:03 and how Abel's sacrifice was pleasing to God
01:06 but Cain's was not... and this made Cain angry.
01:10 We are picking up the story now in chapter 4 with verse 6.
01:14 And the Lord said unto Cain, "Why art thou wroth?
01:19 and why is thy countenance fallen?
01:21 If thou doest well shalt thou not be accepted?
01:24 and if thou does not well, sin lieth at the door.
01:28 And unto thee shall be his desire,
01:30 and thou shalt rule over him. "
01:32 And Cain talked with Abel his brother:
01:35 and it came to pass, when they were in the field,
01:37 that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
01:42 And the Lord said unto Cain, "Where is Abel thy brother? "
01:46 And he said, "I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? "
01:51 And God said, "What hast thou done?
01:55 the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
01:59 And now art thou cursed from the earth,
02:02 which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood
02:05 from thy hand: When thou tillest the ground,
02:08 it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength;
02:12 a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. "
02:16 And Cain said unto the Lord,
02:18 "My punishment is greater than I can bear.
02:21 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the
02:24 earth; and from Thy face shall I be hid;
02:26 and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth;
02:29 and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me
02:32 shall slay me. "
02:33 And the Lord said unto him, "Therefore whosoever slayeth
02:37 Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. "
02:40 And the Lord set a mark upon Cain,
02:43 lest any finding him should kill him.
02:45 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord,
02:48 and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
02:52 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived,
02:55 and bare Enoch: and he builded a city,
02:58 and called the name of the city, after the name of his son,
03:01 Enoch.
03:03 And he builded a city, and called the name of the city,
03:07 after the name of his son, Enoch.
03:10 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael:
03:15 and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
03:19 And Lamech took unto him two wives:
03:22 the name of the one was Adah,
03:24 and the name of the other Zillah.
03:26 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as
03:30 dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
03:33 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father
03:37 of all such as handle the harp and the organ.
03:40 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain,
03:43 an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron:
03:47 and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
03:50 And Lamech said unto his wives, "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
03:55 ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:
03:59 for I have slain a man to my wounding,
04:02 and a young man to my hurt,
04:05 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
04:08 truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold. "
04:12 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son,
04:16 and called his name Seth:
04:18 "For God, " said she, "hath appointed me another seed
04:22 instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. "
04:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son;
04:29 and he called his name Enos:
04:31 then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
04:36 We are reading in Genesis chapter 5,
04:38 and this is the King James version.
04:40 This is the book of the generations of Adam.
04:44 In the day that God created man,
04:46 in the likeness of God made He him;
04:49 Male and female created He them; and blessed them,
04:52 and call their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
04:57 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son
05:01 in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
05:05 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth
05:08 were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
05:12 And all the days that Adam lived
05:15 were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
05:18 And Seth lived a hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
05:22 and Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven
05:26 years, and begat sons and daughters.
05:29 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years:
05:33 and he died.
05:35 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
05:38 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan, eight hundred and
05:43 fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
05:46 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years:
05:50 and he died.
05:52 And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:
05:55 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and
05:59 forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
06:01 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years:
06:05 and he died.
06:07 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:
06:11 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and
06:15 thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
06:17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety
06:20 and five years: and he died.
06:23 And Jared lived a hundred sixty and two years, and
06:26 he begat Enoch: And Jared lived after he begat
06:29 Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
06:33 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years
06:37 and he died.
06:39 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
06:43 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah
06:47 three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
06:51 And all the days of Enoch were
06:54 three hundred sixty and five years:
06:57 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
07:02 And Methuselah lived a hundred eighty and seven years,
07:06 and begat Lamech:
07:07 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred
07:11 eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
07:15 And all the days of Methuselah
07:17 were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
07:22 And Lamech lived a hundred eighty and two years,
07:24 and begat a son: And he called his name Noah,
07:28 saying, "This same shall comfort us concerning our work
07:32 and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord
07:35 hath cursed. " And Lamech lived after he begat Noah
07:39 five hundred ninety and five years,
07:41 and begat sons and daughters.
07:44 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy
07:47 and seven years: and he died.
07:50 And Noah was five hundred years old:
07:52 and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
07:56 We are reading in Genesis in chapter 6
07:59 beginning with verse 1 in the King James version.
08:01 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face
08:06 of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
08:08 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men
08:12 that they were fair; and they took them wives
08:15 of all which they chose.
08:16 And the Lord said, "My spirit shall not always strive with
08:21 man, for that he also is flesh:
08:24 yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. "
08:27 There were giants in the earth in those days;
08:30 and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the
08:34 daughters of men, and they bare children to them,
08:36 the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
08:41 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
08:46 and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart
08:50 was only evil continually.
08:53 And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth,
08:56 and it grieved Him at His heart.
08:58 And the Lord said, "I will destroy man whom I have
09:02 created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast,
09:05 and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air;
09:08 for it repenteth me that I have made them. "
09:11 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
09:16 These are the generations of Noah:
09:18 Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations,
09:22 and Noah walked with God.
09:25 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
09:29 The earth also was corrupt before God,
09:32 and the earth was filled with violence.
09:33 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt;
09:37 for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
09:40 And God said unto Noah, "The end of all flesh is come
09:43 before me; for the earth is filled with violence
09:46 through them: and, behold, I will destroy them
09:50 with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood;
09:54 rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shall pitch it within
09:59 and without with pitch.
10:01 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of:
10:04 The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits,
10:07 the breadth of it fifty cubits,
10:09 and the height of it thirty cubits.
10:11 A window shalt thou make to the ark,
10:14 and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above;
10:18 and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof;
10:22 with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
10:27 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters
10:33 upon the earth, to destroy all flesh,
10:35 wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven;
10:39 and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
10:42 But with thee will I establish My covenant;
10:46 and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons,
10:49 and thy wife; and thy son's wives with thee.
10:52 And of every living thing of all flesh,
10:55 two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark,
10:58 to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
11:03 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind,
11:07 of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind,
11:10 two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
11:15 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten,
11:19 and thou shalt gather it to thee;
11:20 and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. "
11:24 Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him,
11:29 so did he.
11:30 Oh, that we would all be like Noah
11:32 and do according to all that God has commanded us!
11:35 We are continuing now with
11:36 Noah's story in chapter 7.
11:38 And the Lord said unto Noah,
11:41 "Come thou and all thy house into the ark;
11:44 for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
11:49 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens,
11:53 the male and his female:
11:55 and of beasts that are not clean by two,
11:58 the male and his female.
12:00 Of fowls also of the air by sevens,
12:03 the male and the female;
12:05 to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
12:07 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth
12:12 forty days and forty nights;
12:14 and every living substance that I have made will I destroy
12:19 from off the face of the earth. "
12:21 And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.
12:27 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters
12:30 was upon the earth. And Noah went in, and his sons,
12:33 and his wife, and his son's wives with him, into the ark,
12:36 because of the waters of the flood.
12:38 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean,
12:41 and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
12:44 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark,
12:48 the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
12:52 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of
12:56 the flood were upon the earth.
12:58 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life,
13:01 in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month,
13:05 the same day were all the fountains of the great deep
13:09 broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
13:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
13:16 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and
13:21 Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife,
13:24 and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
13:28 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after
13:32 their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the
13:35 earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind,
13:39 every bird of every sort.
13:41 And they went in unto Noah into the ark,
13:44 two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
13:48 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh,
13:54 as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in.
13:57 And the flood was forty days upon the earth;
13:59 and the waters increased, and bare up the ark,
14:02 and it was lifted up above the earth.
14:04 And the water prevailed, and were increased greatly
14:08 upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
14:11 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth;
14:14 and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven,
14:18 were covered. Fifteen cubits upwards did the waters prevail;
14:22 and the mountains were covered.
14:23 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth,
14:27 both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast,
14:29 and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth,
14:32 and every man:
