00:17 Hi! Welcome back to
00:18 His Words Are Life. 00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you 00:21 for joining with me today 00:22 to read the Word of God. 00:24 Before we do, let's pray together. 00:27 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for preserving these stories 00:31 all through the centuries so that we can read about 00:34 our brother Abraham and his wife and how their faith in You 00:40 and their belief in You was counted to them as 00:42 righteousness. We want to be like that. 00:45 We want to trust You so clearly that... that nothing brings us 00:51 anxiety, nothing disturbs our peace and our faith. 00:55 You have promised that faith will come by hearing Your Word. 00:58 So now as we hear Your words, 01:00 strengthen us in our walk with You. 01:02 We love You, and thank you for loving us. Amen. 01:05 I am reading today from the book of Genesis. 01:08 We are starting in chapter 17, 01:10 and this is the King James version. 01:12 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, 01:16 the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, 01:19 "I am the Almighty God; 01:21 walk before Me, and be thou perfect. 01:25 And I will make My covenant between Me and thee, 01:28 and will multiply thee exceedingly. " 01:31 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 01:35 "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with thee, 01:38 and thou shalt be a father of many nations. 01:41 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, 01:44 but thy name shall be Abraham; 01:47 for a father of many nations have I made thee. 01:50 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make 01:53 nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. 01:56 And I will establish My covenant between me and thee 02:00 and thy seed after thee in their generations 02:03 for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, 02:07 and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, 02:11 and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a 02:15 stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting 02:18 possession; and I will be their God. " 02:21 And God said unto Abraham, "Thou shalt keep My covenant 02:25 therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. 02:29 This is My covenant, which ye shall keep, 02:32 between Me and you and thy seed after thee; 02:35 Every man child among you shall be circumcised. 02:39 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; 02:42 and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt Me and you. 02:45 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, 02:49 every man child in your generations, 02:52 he that is born in the house, or bought with money 02:55 of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. 02:57 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with 03:00 thy money, must needs be circumcised: and My covenant 03:04 shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 03:07 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin 03:11 is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his 03:14 people; he hath broken My covenant. " 03:17 And God said unto Abraham, "As for Sarai thy wife, 03:21 thou shalt not call her name Sarai, 03:23 but Sarah shall her name be. 03:27 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: 03:30 yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; 03:35 kings of people shall be of her. " 03:38 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, 03:42 and said in his heart, "Shall a child be born unto him 03:45 that is a hundred years old? 03:47 and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? " 03:50 And Abraham said unto God, 03:52 "O that Ishmael might live before thee! " 03:55 And God said, "Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; 04:01 and thou shalt call his name Isaac: 04:03 and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting 04:06 covenant, and with his seed after him. 04:08 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: 04:11 Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, 04:14 and will multiply him exceedingly; 04:16 twelve princes shall he beget, 04:19 and I will make him a great nation. 04:22 But My covenant will I establish with Isaac, 04:26 which Sarah shall bear unto thee 04:28 at this set time in the next year. " 04:31 And He left off talking with him, 04:33 and God went up from Abraham. 04:34 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in 04:38 his house, and all that were bought with his money, 04:41 every male among the men of Abraham's house; 04:43 and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the 04:46 selfsame day, as God had said unto him. 04:49 And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, 04:52 when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 04:55 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was 04:59 circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 05:01 In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised and Ishmael his son. 05:06 And all the men of his house, born in the house, 05:09 and bought with money of the stranger, 05:11 were circumcised with him. 05:13 We are reading in Genesis 05:15 chapter 18, and this is the 05:17 King James version. 05:18 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: 05:22 and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 05:25 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, behold, 05:28 three men stood by him: 05:30 and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, 05:33 and bowed himself toward the ground. 05:35 And said, "My Lord, if now I have found favor in thy sight, 05:39 pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 05:42 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, 05:45 and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 05:48 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your 05:51 hearts; after that ye shall pass on: 05:54 for therefore are ye come to your servant. " 05:57 And they said, "So do, as thou has said. " 06:01 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, 06:04 and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, 06:07 knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. " 06:10 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and 06:13 good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. 06:17 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had 06:20 dressed, and set it before them; 06:22 and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. 06:26 And they said unto him, "Where is Sarah thy wife? " 06:29 And he said, "Behold, in the tent. " 06:32 And he said, "I will certainly return unto thee according 06:35 to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. 06:40 And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 06:44 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; 06:48 and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 06:52 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, 06:55 "After I am waxen old shall I have pleasure, 06:59 my lord being old also? " 07:01 And the Lord said unto Abraham, "Wherefore did Sarah laugh, 07:05 saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 07:09 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? 07:12 At the time appointed I will return unto thee, 07:15 according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. " 07:18 Then Sarah denied, saying, "I laughed not; " 07:21 for she was afraid. And He said, "Nay; but thou didst laugh. " 07:26 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom; 07:29 and Abraham went them to bring them on the way. 07:32 And the Lord said, "Shall I hide from Abraham that thing 07:35 which I do; Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great 07:39 and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be 07:41 blessed in him? For I know him, that he will 07:45 command his children and his household after him, 07:47 and they shall keep the way of the Lord, 07:49 to do justice and judgment; 07:51 that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which He hath 07:54 spoken of him. " And the Lord said, 07:57 "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, 08:01 and because their sin is very grievous; 08:03 I will go down now, and see whether they have done 08:06 altogether according to the cry of it; which is come unto Me; 08:09 and if not, I will know. " 08:11 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward 08:15 Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. 08:17 And Abraham drew near, and said, 08:19 "Wilt Thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 08:23 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: 08:27 wilt Thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty 08:31 righteous that are therein? That be far from Thee to do 08:35 after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: 08:38 and that the righteous should be as the wicked, 08:40 that be far from Thee: 08:42 Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? " 08:45 And the Lord said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous 08:50 within the city, then I will spare all the place 08:54 for their sakes. " And Abraham answered and said, 08:57 "Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, 09:02 which am but dust and ashes: 09:05 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: 09:09 wilt Thou destroy all the city for lack of five? " 09:13 And He said, "If I find there forty and five, 09:17 I will not destroy it. " 09:19 And he spake unto Him yet again, and said, 09:22 "Peradventure there shall be forty found there. " 09:26 And He said, "I will not do it for forty's sake. " 09:30 And he said unto Him, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, 09:36 and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found 09:40 there. " And He said, "I will not do it, 09:43 if I find thirty there. " And he said, "Behold now, 09:49 I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: 09:52 "Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. " 09:55 And He said, "I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. " 10:00 And he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, 10:04 and I will speak yet but this once: 10:07 Peradventure ten shall be found there. " 10:10 And He said, "I will not destroy it for ten's sake. " 10:17 And the Lord went His way, as soon as he had left communing 10:20 with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. 10:25 Continuing with chapter 19. 10:28 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; 10:32 and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: 10:35 and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; 10:38 and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; 10:41 And he said, "Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, 10:45 into your servant's house, and tarry all night, 10:48 and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, 10:51 and go on your ways. " 10:53 And they said, "Nay, but we will abide in the street all night. " 10:58 And he pressed upon them greatly; 11:01 and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; 11:04 and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, 11:07 and they did eat. But before they lay down, 11:10 the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, 11:14 compassed the house round, both old and young, 11:17 all the people from every quarter: 11:20 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, 11:22 "Where are the men which came in to thee this night? 11:25 Bring them out unto us, that we may know them. " 11:28 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door 11:31 after him, And said, "I pray you, brethren, 11:33 do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters 11:38 which have not known man: let me, I pray you, 11:41 bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good 11:44 in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing: 11:47 for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. " 11:51 And they said, "Stand back. " 11:53 And they said again, "This one fellow came in to sojourn, 11:56 and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee 12:00 than with them. " And they pressed sore upon the man, 12:03 even Lot, and came near to break the door. 12:06 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the 12:09 house to them, and shut to the door. 12:12 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house 12:16 with blindness, both small and great, 12:18 so that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12:21 And the men said unto Lot, "Hast thou here any besides? 12:25 Son-in-law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, 12:28 and whatsoever thou hast in the city, 12:29 bring them out of this place: 12:32 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen 12:36 great before the face of the Lord; 12:38 and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. " 12:41 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, 12:44 which married his daughters, and said, 12:46 "Up, get you out of this place; 12:48 for the Lord will destroy this city. " 12:50 But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law. 12:55 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, 12:59 saying, "Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, 13:02 which are here: lest thou be consumed in the iniquity 13:05 of the city. " And while he lingered, 13:08 the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, 13:11 and upon the hand of his two daughters; 13:13 the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, 13:17 and set him without the city. 13:19 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, 13:22 that he said, "Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, 13:26 neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, 13:30 lest thou be consumed. " 13:32 And Lot said unto them, "Oh, not so my Lord: 13:36 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in Thy sight, 13:39 and Thou has magnified Thy mercy, which Thou has showed 13:42 unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the 13:45 mountain, lest some evil take me and I die: 13:47 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, 13:50 and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither - 13:53 is it not a little one? - and my soul shall live. " 13:57 And He said unto him, "See, I have accepted thee 14:00 concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, 14:04 for the which thou has spoken. 14:06 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing 14:10 till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city 14:13 was called Zoar. 14:15 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 14:19 Then the Lord rained down upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah 14:23 brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; 14:27 Thank you for joining with me. 14:29 Please join me again next time. 14:30 Goodbye. |
