00:17 Hi and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you
00:21 for joining with me today
00:22 to read the Word of God.
00:23 But before we do that, let's pray together.
00:25 Dear God, thank you so much for the life that You have given
00:30 to each one of us... a life that we can use to serve
00:34 others in Your name and to serve You by doing that.
00:38 Please now as we read these words, may we be strengthened
00:42 to serve You better and may our faith be increased
00:46 and may the correction that we need to make in our lives
00:50 be made clear to us.
00:51 May the guidance that we are looking for be found in the
00:54 words that we will hear today.
00:55 Please send Your Holy Spirit to open up our minds
00:58 to Your truth. We love You so much,
01:00 and thank you for loving us. Amen.
01:03 When we were last together we were reading the story of
01:06 Abraham and Isaac and how Isaac's wife Rebekah
01:10 had been found under the direction of God.
01:13 And now we are going to pick up in Genesis in chapter 25.
01:18 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
01:23 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan,
01:28 and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.
01:31 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan.
01:35 And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim,
01:39 and Leummim.
01:40 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanock,
01:45 and Abidah, and Eldaah.
01:48 All these were the children of Keturah.
01:50 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
01:54 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had,
01:58 Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son,
02:02 while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
02:06 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life
02:10 which he lived, a hundred threescore and fifteen years.
02:14 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age,
02:18 an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
02:23 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him the cave of Machpelah
02:28 in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,
02:31 which is before Mamre; The field which Abraham purchased
02:35 of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried,
02:39 and Sarah his wife.
02:40 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham,
02:43 that God blessed his son Isaac;
02:45 and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.
02:48 Now these are generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son,
02:51 whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid,
02:54 bare unto Abraham:
02:56 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names,
03:00 according to their generations:
03:02 the first-born of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel,
03:07 and Mibsam, and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,
03:10 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:
03:15 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names,
03:18 by their towns, and by their castles,
03:20 twelve princes according to their nations.
03:23 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael,
03:26 a hundred and thirty and seven years; and he gave up the ghost
03:30 and died; and was gathered unto his people.
03:32 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt,
03:37 as thou goest toward Assyria:
03:39 and he died in the presence of all his brethren.
03:42 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son:
03:46 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac was forty years old when he
03:51 took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian
03:55 of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.
03:58 And Isaac entreated the Lord for his wife,
04:01 because she was barren: and the Lord was entreated of him,
04:05 and Rebekah his wife conceived.
04:07 And the children struggled together within her;
04:10 and she said, "If it be so, why am I thus? "
04:13 And she went to inquire of the Lord.
04:15 And the Lord said unto her,
04:17 "Two nations are in thy womb,
04:19 and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels;
04:23 and the one people shall be stronger than the other people;
04:26 and the elder shall serve the younger. "
04:30 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled,
04:33 behold, there were twins in her womb.
04:35 And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment;
04:40 and they called his name Esau.
04:42 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold
04:47 on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob;
04:50 and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
04:55 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter,
04:59 a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man,
05:01 dwelling in tents. And Isaac loved Esau,
05:05 because he did eat of his venison:
05:07 but Rebekah loved Jacob.
05:09 And Jacob sod pottage:
05:11 and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
05:14 And Esau said to Jacob, "Feed me, I pray thee,
05:16 with that same red pottage; for I am faint: "
05:19 therefore was his name called Edom.
05:21 And Jacob said, "Sell me this day thy birthright. "
05:26 And Esau said, "Behold, I am at the point to die:
05:30 and what profit shall this birthright do to me? "
05:32 And Jacob said, "Swear to me this day; "
05:34 and he sware unto him; and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
05:38 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils;
05:42 and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way:
05:45 thus Esau despised his birthright.
05:49 Continuing to read in Genesis
05:51 chapter 26, and this is the
05:53 King James version.
05:54 And there was a famine in the land,
05:57 beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham.
06:00 And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines
06:03 unto Gerar. And the Lord appeared unto him, and said,
06:06 "Go not down into Egypt;
06:08 dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
06:10 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee,
06:13 and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed,
06:17 I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath
06:21 which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
06:23 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,
06:28 and will give unto thy seed all these countries;
06:30 and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
06:35 Because that Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge,
06:39 My commandments, My statutes, and My laws. "
06:42 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:
06:44 And the men of the place asked him of his wife;
06:46 and he said, "She is my sister: " for he feared to say,
06:49 "She is my wife; " lest, said he,
06:51 "the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; "
06:53 because she was fair to look upon.
06:56 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time,
06:58 that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a
07:01 window and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with
07:04 Rebekah his wife.
07:05 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said,
07:07 "Behold, of a surety she is thy wife:
07:10 and how saidst thou, She is my sister? "
07:13 And Isaac said unto him,
07:15 "Because I said, Lest I die for her. "
07:17 And Abimelech said, "What is this thou has done
07:20 unto us? one of the people might lightly have lain with thy wife,
07:24 and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us. "
07:26 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying,
07:29 "He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely
07:32 be put to death. " Then Isaac sowed in that land,
07:36 and received in the same year a hundredfold:
07:38 and the Lord blessed him.
07:40 And the man waxed great, and went forward,
07:43 and grew until he became very great:
07:45 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds,
07:48 and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
07:52 For all the wells which is father's servants had digged
07:54 in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had
07:57 stopped them, and filled them with earth.
07:59 And Abimelech said unto Isaac,
08:01 "Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. "
08:04 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the
08:08 valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
08:10 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged
08:14 in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had
08:18 stopped them after the death of Abraham:
08:20 and he called their names after the names by which his father
08:23 had called them. And Isaac's servants digged in the valley,
08:26 and found there a well of springing water.
08:29 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen,
08:33 saying, "The water is ours: "
08:35 and he called the name of the well Esek;
08:37 because they strove with him.
08:39 And they digged another well, and strove for that also:
08:42 and he called the name of it Sitnah.
08:45 And he removed from thence, and digged another well;
08:48 and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it
08:50 Rehoboth; and he said,
08:52 "For now the Lord hath made room for us,
08:54 and we shall be fruitful in the land. "
08:56 And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
09:00 And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said,
09:03 "I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not,
09:07 for I am with thee, and will bless thee,
09:10 and multiply thy seed for My servant Abraham's sake. "
09:14 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the
09:17 Lord, and pitched his tent there:
09:20 and there Isaac's servants digged a well.
09:23 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar,
09:26 and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain
09:29 of his army. And Isaac said unto them,
09:31 "Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me,
09:34 and have sent me away from you? "
09:36 And they said, "We saw certainly that the Lord was with thee: "
09:40 and we said, "Let there be now an oath betwixt us,
09:43 even betwixt us and thee,
09:44 and let us make a covenant with thee;
09:46 That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee,
09:50 and as we have done unto thee nothing but good,
09:52 and have sent thee away in peace:
09:54 thou art now the blessed of the Lord. "
09:56 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
10:00 And they rose up betimes in the morning,
10:03 and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away,
10:06 and they departed from him in peace.
10:08 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came,
10:11 and told him concerning the well which they had digged,
10:14 and said unto him, "We have found water. "
10:17 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city
10:20 is Beersheba unto this day.
10:23 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith
10:28 the daughter of Beeri the Hittite,
10:31 and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
10:34 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
10:38 We are reading in Genesis,
10:40 and we are continuing now with
10:41 chapter 27, and this is the
10:43 King James version.
10:44 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old,
10:47 and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see,
10:50 he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him,
10:53 "My son: " and he said unto him,
10:56 "Behold, here am I. "
10:57 And he said, "Behold now, I am old,
11:01 I know not the day of my death:
11:02 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons,
11:06 thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field,
11:10 and take me some venison;
11:12 And make me savory meat, such as I love,
11:15 and bring it to me, that I may eat;
11:17 that my soul may bless thee before I die. "
11:20 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son.
11:24 And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison,
11:27 and to bring it.
11:29 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying,
11:31 "Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother,
11:35 saying, "Bring me venison, and make me savory meat,
11:37 that I may eat, and bless thee before the Lord
11:40 before my death. " Now therefore, my son,
11:42 obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
11:45 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids
11:49 of the goats; and I will make them savory meat
11:52 for thy father, such as he loveth:
11:54 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat,
11:57 and that he may bless thee before his death. "
12:00 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother,
12:03 "Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man,
12:07 and I am a smooth man:
12:08 My father peradventure will feel me,
12:11 and I shall seem to him as a deceiver;
12:14 and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing. "
12:18 And his mother said unto him,
12:20 "Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice,
12:24 and go fetch me them. "
12:25 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother:
12:29 and his mother made savory meat, such as his father loved.
12:33 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau,
12:37 which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob
12:40 her younger son: And she put the skins of the kids
12:43 of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
12:49 And she gave the savory meat and the bread,
12:51 which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
12:54 And he came unto his father, and said,
12:56 "My father: " and he said,
12:58 "Here am I; who art thou, my son? "
13:01 And Jacob said unto his father, "I am Esau thy first-born;
13:05 I have done according as thou badest me:
13:07 arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison,
13:10 that thy soul may bless me. "
13:12 And Isaac said unto his son, "How is it that thou hast found
13:17 it so quickly, my son? " And he said,
13:19 "Because the Lord thy God brought it to me. "
13:22 And Isaac said unto Jacob, "Come near, I pray thee,
13:25 that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son
13:29 Esau or not. " And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father,
13:33 and he felt him, and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice,
13:37 but the hands are the hands of Esau. "
13:40 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy,
13:44 as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
13:48 And he said, "Art thou my very son Esau? "
13:51 And he said, "I am. "
13:53 And he said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat
13:56 of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. "
13:59 And he brought it near to him, and he did eat:
14:02 and he brought him wine, and he drank.
14:04 And his father Isaac said unto him,
14:07 "Come near now, and kiss me, my son. "
14:09 And he came near, and kissed him:
14:11 and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him,
14:14 and said, "See, the smell of my son
14:17 is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:
14:20 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven,
14:24 and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: "
14:28 Thank you for joining with me to read today.
14:31 Please join me again next time.
14:33 Goodbye.
