00:17 Hi, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for being with me today 00:22 to read in the book of Exodus. And before we start, 00:25 let's pray together. Dear Jesus, thank you so much that we have 00:30 great stories that we are going to be reading in the book of 00:33 Exodus, how you came down and led your children, Israel out of 00:38 the land of Egypt, and brought them from being slaves to being 00:42 free and blest by you. And we know that you came from heaven 00:47 and you brought each of us out of the slavery of sin. 00:50 We are free indeed because of the gift you have given to us 00:54 that we will never earn, never repay. But we want to show you 00:57 our thanksgiving for it. And the way to do that is to hear your 01:01 words, grow in faith, and do your will. Please help us to 01:05 to that. We love you so much. Thank you for loving us. Amen. 01:09 We're reading today from the book of Exodus, and the children 01:14 of Israel have grown into a great and exceeding host of 01:18 children and people. Pharaoh who was not the Pharaoh who knew 01:23 Joseph. The new Pharaoh doesn't know Joseph and he's concerned 01:25 that the Israelites are too great in numbers. So they make 01:28 them into slaves and press them into service. We're picking up 01:32 in Exodus chapter one and verse 14. 01:35 This is the King James Version And they, speaking of the 01:39 Egyptians. And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, 01:43 in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the 01:47 field: all their service wherein they made them serve, 01:50 was with rigor. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew 01:54 midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, 01:59 and the name of the other was Puah: And he said, 02:02 When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, 02:05 and see them upon the stools: if it be a son, then ye shall kill 02:10 him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 02:13 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king 02:17 of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 02:21 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, 02:24 and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved 02:27 the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, 02:31 because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; 02:34 for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives 02:37 come in unto them. Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: 02:41 and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 02:45 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, 02:48 that he made them houses. And Pharaoh charged all his people, 02:52 saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, 02:56 and every daughter ye shall save alive. 02:59 We'll continue reading now in Exodus, chapter two, 03:03 This is the King James Version. And there went a man 03:07 of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 03:11 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him 03:15 and that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 03:18 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him 03:23 an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, 03:27 and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags 03:30 by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off, 03:34 to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh 03:38 came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked 03:41 along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the 03:45 flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had 03:49 opened it, she saw the child: and behold, the babe wept. 03:53 And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the 03:56 Hebrews' children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter 04:00 Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, 04:04 that she may nurse the child for thee? And Pharaoh's daughter 04:08 said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's 04:12 mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child 04:16 away, and nurse if for me, and I will give thee thy wages. 04:20 And the woman took the child, and nursed it. And the child 04:23 grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, 04:26 and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: 04:30 and she said, Because I drew him out of the water. 04:34 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, 04:38 that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their 04:41 burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, 04:45 one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way, 04:49 and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, 04:52 and hid him in the sand. And when he went out the second day, 04:57 behold two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said 05:00 to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou 05:03 thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge 05:06 over us? intendest thou to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian 05:10 And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. 05:14 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. 05:17 But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land 05:21 of Midian: and he sat down by a well. Now the priest of Midian 05:26 had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, 05:28 and filled the troughs to water their father's flock. 05:31 And the shepherds came and drove them away: 05:34 but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock. 05:37 And when they came to Reuel, their father, he said, How is it 05:41 that ye are come so soon today? and they said, An Egyptian 05:46 delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew 05:48 water enough for us, and watered the flock. 05:51 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? 05:54 why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat 05:57 bread. And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave 06:02 Moses Zipporah his daughter, and she bare him a son, 06:06 and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been 06:09 a stranger in a strange land. And it came to pass in process 06:14 of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel 06:18 sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry 06:23 came up unto God by reason of the bondage. And God heard 06:27 their groaning, and God remembered his covenant 06:29 with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 06:32 And God looked upon the children of Israel, 06:35 and God had respect unto them. Continuing now with chapter 3. 06:40 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, 06:44 the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the 06:48 desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 06:51 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of 06:54 fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, 06:58 the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 07:02 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, 07:07 why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned 07:10 aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush 07:13 and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, 07:19 Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, 07:23 for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 07:28 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, 07:31 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 07:35 And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 07:40 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people 07:45 which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of 07:49 their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come 07:53 down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, 07:56 and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land 08:00 and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; 08:04 unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, 08:07 and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, 08:10 and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of 08:15 the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen 08:18 the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 08:21 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, 08:24 that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel 08:28 out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, 08:33 that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth 08:35 the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, 08:39 Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token 08:42 unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought 08:46 forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this 08:50 mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto 08:54 the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, 08:56 The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; 08:59 and they shall say to me, What is his name? 09:01 what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, 09:05 I am that I am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the 09:11 children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 09:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say 09:20 unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, 09:23 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, 09:27 hath sent me unto you; this is my name for ever, 09:31 and this is my memorial unto all generations. Go, and gather 09:36 the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God 09:41 of your fathers, The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, 09:44 appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, 09:48 and seen that which is done to you in Egypt: And I have said, I 09:53 will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the 09:57 land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, 10:00 and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, 10:02 unto a land flowing with milk and honey. 10:06 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, 10:10 thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, 10:12 And ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews 10:16 hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, 10:20 three days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice 10:23 to the Lord our God. And I am sure that the king of Egypt will 10:28 not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. And I will stretch 10:33 out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I 10:38 will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let 10:42 you go. And I will give this people favor in the sight of 10:46 the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, what, when ye go, 10:50 ye shall not go empty: But every woman shall borrow 10:54 of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house, 10:56 jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment 11:00 and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; 11:03 and ye shall spoil the Egyptians 11:05 Continuing to read in the book of Exodus, in chapter 4. 11:10 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not 11:15 believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, 11:18 The Lord hath not appeared unto thee. And the Lord said unto him 11:21 What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. And he said, 11:28 cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, 11:31 and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 11:34 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, 11:37 and take it by the tail. An he put forth his hand, 11:41 and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: 11:43 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, 11:47 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, 11:51 hath appeared unto thee. And the Lord said furthermore 11:54 unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his 11:58 hand into his bosom; and when he took it out, behold his hand 12:02 was leprous as snow. And he said, Put thine hand into thy 12:06 bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; 12:10 and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again 12:13 as his other flesh. And it shall come to pass, 12:17 if they will not believe thee, neither hearken 12:19 to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice 12:22 of the latter sign. And it shall come to pass, if they will not 12:26 believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, 12:29 that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour 12:33 it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out 12:38 of the river shall become blood upon the dry land. 12:40 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, 12:46 neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken 12:49 unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 12:54 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? 12:58 or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? 13:02 have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be 13:07 with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. 13:10 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of 13:16 whom thou wilt send. And the anger of the Lord was kindled 13:20 against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite 13:23 thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, 13:27 he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, 13:29 he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him 13:32 and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, 13:36 and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. 13:38 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be 13:43 even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be 13:47 to him instead of God. And thou shalt take this rod in thine 13:51 hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs. And Moses went and 13:55 returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, 13:57 Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren 14:00 which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. 14:03 And Jethro said to Moses, go in peace. 14:07 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: 14:12 for all the men are dead, which sought thy life. 14:15 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon 14:19 an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took 14:23 the rod of God in his hand. Please join with me 14:27 again as we read the story of Moses in Egypt. 14:30 Until then, may God keep you in his care. Goodbye |
