00:15 Hi and welcome to His Words Are Life
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today to
00:20 read the word of God. When we were last together
00:23 we were reading in the book of Numbers the story
00:25 of the Israelites and when Moses sent the spies into the Land
00:28 and they came back with the report that -
00:31 ten of the reported that the land was full of giants
00:34 and they were not able to take it. Two of them said, Yes we can
00:38 do it. The Lord is with us. And the Lord grew angry
00:41 with the Israelites who doubted and forgot how He had blessed
00:46 them and worked wonders and miracles for them so many times
00:49 before. It's a lesson for me and a lesson for each of us that
00:53 when the troubles - when the things that are bothering us, or
00:56 the situations of our life seem like giant obstacles
01:00 that we don't see a way to overcome. That we should not
01:04 forget what God has done for us in the past. But we can look at
01:07 those times in the past when He has intervened for us and
01:10 blessed us and we know that He is taking care of us
01:12 in whatever we are facing right now. Before we start to read
01:15 let's pray together. Dear Jesus, thank you so much for these
01:18 words that bring us not just life but abundant life.
01:22 Please help us to bless your name and not forget a single
01:25 one of your benefits to each one of us. You've loved us so much.
01:29 You've surrounded us with mercy and grace. You've given us
01:32 blessings beyond number. Help us now as we read the stories
01:36 of the Israelites and Your children in years gone by,
01:39 that it will be to us a lesson of blessing in what we're facing
01:44 right now; that we will look to You always and trust You to
01:48 deliver us in Your timing. We love you so much. Thank you
01:50 for loving us. Amen
01:52 We are reading in the book of Numbers, and we are in chapter
01:56 15, starting with verse 29. This is the King James Version.
02:01 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance,
02:05 both for him that is born among the children of Israel,
02:07 and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
02:09 But the soul that doeth aught presumptuously, whether he
02:14 be born in the land or a stranger, the same reproacheth
02:17 the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
02:20 Because he has despised the word of the Lord, and hath broken His
02:24 commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity
02:27 shall be upon him. And while the children of Israel were in the
02:31 wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the
02:35 Sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks
02:39 brought him unto Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation.
02:41 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared
02:45 what should be done to him. And the Lord said unto Moses,
02:48 The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation
02:51 shall stone him with stones without the camp.
02:54 And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned
02:57 him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses.
03:00 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children
03:04 of Israel and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders
03:09 of their garments throughout their generations, and that they
03:12 put upon the fringe of the borders a ribbond of blue:
03:16 and it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it
03:19 and remember all the commandments of the Lord
03:21 and do them; And that ye seek not after your own heart in your
03:26 own eyes after which ye use to go a-whoring: that ye may
03:30 remember and do all my commandments, and be holy
03:33 unto your God. I am the Lord your God which brought you out
03:38 of the land of Egypt, to be your God. I am the Lord your God.
03:41 Continuing to read in the book of Numbers. This is chapter 16
03:45 This is the King James Version.
03:46 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi
03:52 and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of
03:58 Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men and they rose up before Moses,
04:04 with certain of the children of Israel, 250 princes
04:08 of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
04:12 and they gathered themselves together against Moses
04:15 and against Aaron, and said unto them, ye take too much upon you,
04:19 seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them,
04:22 and the Lord is among them: Wherefore then, lift ye up
04:26 yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?
04:28 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
04:33 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying,
04:37 Even tomorrow the Lord will shew who are his, and who is holy;
04:43 and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath
04:47 chosen will he cause to come near unto him. This do,
04:52 Take you censers, Korah, and all his company; and put fire
04:57 therein, and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow:
05:00 And it shall be that the man whom the Lord doth choose;
05:04 he shall be holy: You take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
05:08 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi
05:13 seemeth it but a small thing unto you that the God of Israel
05:17 hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring
05:20 you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle
05:24 of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister
05:26 unto them? And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy
05:30 brethren the sons of Levi with thee and seek ye the priesthood
05:34 also? For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered
05:39 together against the Lord? And what is Aaron that ye murmur
05:42 against him? And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons
05:48 of Eliab, which said, We will not come up. Is it a small thing
05:53 that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk
05:56 and honey to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make
05:59 thyself altogether a prince over us? Moreover thou hast not
06:03 brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or
06:05 given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out
06:08 the eyes of these men? We will not come up.
06:11 Moses was very wroth and said unto the Lord, Respect not thou
06:18 their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have
06:22 I hurt one of them. And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all
06:27 thy company before the Lord, thou and they and Aaron,
06:31 tomorrow. And take every man his censer and put incense in it
06:34 and bring ye before the Lord every man his censer 250 censers
06:38 Thou also and Aaron, each of you his censer.
06:41 And they took, every man his censer and put fire in them,
06:46 and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door
06:49 of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses
06:52 and Aaron. And Korah gathered all the congregation against
06:56 them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
06:59 And the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the
07:03 congregation. And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron,
07:08 saying, separate yourselves from among this congregation,
07:11 that I may consume them in a moment.
07:14 And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the
07:19 spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth
07:23 with all the congregation? And the Lord spake unto Moses,
07:27 saying, Speak unto the congregation, saying, get you up
07:31 from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.
07:35 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram,
07:38 and the elders of Israel followed him.
07:41 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart,
07:45 I pray you from the tents of these wicked men, and touch
07:48 nothing of theirs lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
07:52 so they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan,
07:55 and Abiram on every side, and Dathan and Abiram came out
08:00 and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives and their
08:02 sons and their little children. And Moses said, Hereby ye shall
08:06 know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I
08:10 have not done them of mine own mind. If these men die
08:15 the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the
08:17 visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me.
08:20 But if the Lord make a new thing and the earth open her mouth,
08:26 and swallow them up with all that appertain unto them,
08:29 and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand
08:34 that these men have provoked the Lord.
08:37 And it came to pass as he had made an end of speaking all
08:41 these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under
08:45 them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up,
08:49 and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah
08:53 and all their goods. They and all that appertained to them,
08:56 went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them:
09:01 And they perished from among the congregation.
09:04 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry
09:08 of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
09:11 And there came out a fire from Lord and consumed the 250 men
09:17 that offered incense. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
09:21 speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take
09:24 up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou
09:28 the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
09:30 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let
09:35 them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar:
09:38 for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they are
09:41 hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel
09:43 and Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they
09:48 that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates
09:52 for a covering of the altar: to be a memorial unto the children
09:58 of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of
10:00 Aaron come near to offer incense before the Lord; that he be not
10:05 as Korah and as his company: as the Lord said to him by the hand
10:08 of Moses. But on the morrow all the congregation of the children
10:13 of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, ye
10:18 have killed the people of the Lord. And it came to pass
10:21 when the congregation was gathered against Moses and
10:25 against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the
10:28 congregation and behold, the cloud covered it and the glory
10:32 of the Lord appeared. And Moses and Aaron came before the
10:35 tabernacle of the congregation and the Lord spake unto Moses
10:39 saying, get you up from among this congregation, that I may
10:43 consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
10:48 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer and put fire therein
10:53 and from off the altar and put on incense and go quickly
10:56 unto the congregation, and make and atonement for them:
10:58 for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; and the plague is
11:02 begun. And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran
11:07 into the midst of the congregation and behold
11:10 the plague was begun among the people. And he put on incense,
11:13 and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between
11:18 the dead and the living. And the plague was stayed.
11:21 Now they that died in the plague were 14,700, beside them that
11:28 died about the matter of Korah. And Aaron returned unto Moses
11:32 unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,
11:34 and the plague was stayed. We are continuing to read in
11:38 the book of Numbers. We're on chapter 17, and
11:41 this is the King James Version.
11:42 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children
11:47 of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod, according to the
11:52 house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the
11:55 house of their fathers, twelve rods. Write thou every man's
11:59 name upon his rod. And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon
12:03 the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the
12:06 the house of their fathers. And thou shalt lay them up in the
12:09 tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony
12:12 where I will meet with you. And it shall come to pass
12:15 that the man's rod whom I shall choose shall blossom.
12:20 And I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children
12:24 of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.
12:26 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel
12:29 and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece,
12:32 for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses,
12:35 even 12 rods. And the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
12:39 And Moses laid up the rod before the Lord in the tabernacle
12:42 of witness. And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went
12:47 into the tabernacle of witness. And behold, the rod of Aaron
12:51 for the house of Levi was budded and brought forth buds,
12:55 and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
12:58 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord
13:02 unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took
13:06 every man his rod. And the Lord said unto Moses, bring Aaron's
13:10 rod again before the testimony to be kept for a token against
13:14 the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings
13:17 from me, that they die not. And Moses did so as the Lord
13:22 commanded him, so did he. And the children of Israel
13:25 spake unto Moses, saying, Behold we die, we perish,
13:30 we all perish.
13:31 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord
13:35 shall die. Shall we be consumed with dying?
13:40 Continuing to read in the book of Numbers, This is chapter 18,
13:44 This is the King James Version.
13:45 And the Lord said unto Aaron, Thou and thy son
13:49 and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the
13:52 sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the
13:56 iniquity of your priesthood. And thy brethren also of the
13:59 tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee
14:02 that they may be joined unto thee and minister unto thee:
14:06 But thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the
14:09 tabernacle of witness. And they shall keep thy charge
14:13 and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not
14:16 come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar,
14:19 that neither they nor ye also, die. And they shall be joined
14:24 unto the and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the
14:26 congregation for all the service of the tabernacle.
14:29 And a stranger shall not come nigh unto you.
14:33 Thank you for being with me today to read the bible
