00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and when we were last together
00:20 we were reading in the book of Numbers,
00:21 the various offerings and sacrifices that the Lord
00:24 laid out for the children of Israel. We're going to
00:27 skip a portion of that in Numbers 29 as it continues
00:32 the various offerings and sacrifices,
00:34 We're going to pick up with verse 39 of Numbers 29.
00:38 But before we start, let's pray together
00:40 Dear Lord, thank you so much for showing us how we can show
00:46 our love to you through our offerings and our sacrifices
00:50 of praise and thanksgiving and we thank you for your love
00:54 Please be with us now as we read your word. Amen
00:57 Picking up in Numbers, chapter 29, verse 39
01:02 and this is the King James Version
01:03 These things ye shall do unto the Lord in your set feasts,
01:07 beside your vows and your freewill offerings,
01:10 for your burnt offerings and for your meat offerings,
01:12 and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.
01:14 And Moses told the children of Israel according to all
01:18 that the Lord commanded Moses. continuing with Numbers chap. 30
01:23 This is the King James Version.
01:24 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning
01:27 the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing
01:29 which the Lord hath commanded. If a man vow a vow unto the Lord
01:33 or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond;
01:36 he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all
01:39 that proceedeth out of his mouth.
01:40 If a woman also vow a vow unto the Lord, and bind herself
01:44 by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth;
01:47 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith
01:50 she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace
01:53 at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith
01:57 she hath bound her soul shall stand. But if her father
02:01 disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows,
02:04 or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand
02:07 and the Lord shall forgive her, because her father disallowed
02:11 her. And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed,
02:15 or uttered aught out of her lips wherewith she bound her soul;
02:18 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in day
02:20 that he heard it: then her vows shall stand and her bond
02:23 wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
02:25 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it;
02:29 then he shall make her vow which she vowed and that which she
02:33 uttered with her lips wherewith she bound her soul
02:35 of none effect: and the Lord shall forgive her.
02:38 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced,
02:42 wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her.
02:46 And if she vowed in her husband's house,
02:48 or bound her soul by a bond with an oath;
02:51 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her,
02:55 and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand,
02:59 and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
03:02 But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day
03:06 he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips
03:09 concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul,
03:12 shall not stand: her husband hath made them void;
03:16 and the Lord shall forgive her. Every vow and every binding
03:19 oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it,
03:23 or her husband may make it void.
03:24 But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her
03:28 from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows,
03:31 or all her bonds which are upon her: he confirmeth them,
03:35 because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.
03:39 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath
03:43 heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.
03:45 These are the statutes, which the Lord commanded Moses,
03:48 between a man and his wife,
03:49 between a father and his daughter,
03:51 being yet in her youth in her father's house.
03:54 We're in the book of Numbers chapter 31.
03:56 This is the King James Version.
03:58 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Avenge the children
04:01 of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be
04:05 gathered unto thy people. And Moses spake unto the people,
04:08 saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war,
04:10 and let them go against the Midianites,
04:12 and avenge the Lord of Midian. Of every tribe a thousand,
04:15 throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war
04:18 So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel,
04:21 a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
04:24 And Moses sent them to war, a thousand of every tribe,
04:28 them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war,
04:31 with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand
04:34 and they warred against the Midianites,
04:36 as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
04:39 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them
04:42 that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur,
04:46 and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor
04:51 they slew with the sword. And the children of Israel
04:54 took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones,
04:57 and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks,
04:59 and all their goods. And they burnt all their cities
05:02 wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
05:05 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men
05:09 and of beasts. And they brought the captives, and the prey,
05:12 and the spoil, unto Moses and Eleazar the priest,
05:15 and unto the congregation of the children of Israel unto the camp
05:19 at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
05:22 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes
05:25 of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
05:29 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host,
05:32 with the captains over thousands,
05:34 and the captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
05:36 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
05:40 Behold, these caused the children of Israel,
05:42 through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass
05:44 against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague
05:47 among the congregation of the Lord. Now therefore kill every
05:49 male among the little ones, and kill every woman
05:52 that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women
05:55 children that have not known a man by lying with him,
05:57 keep alive for yourselves. And do ye abide without the camp
06:01 seven days: whosoever hath killed any person,
06:04 and whosoever hath touched any slain,
06:06 purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day,
06:09 and on the seventh day. And purify all your raiment,
06:12 and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair,
06:15 and all things made of wood. And Eleazar the priest
06:18 said unto the men of war which went to the battle,
06:21 This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;
06:24 Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin,
06:28 and the lead, every thing that may abide the fire,
06:30 ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean:
06:33 Nevertheless it shall be purified with the water
06:36 of separation: and all that abideth not the fire
06:38 ye shall make go through the water. And ye shall wash your
06:42 clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean,
06:43 and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
06:45 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Take the sum of the prey
06:49 that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou and Eleazar
06:52 the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:
06:54 and divide the prey into two parts;
06:55 between them that took the war upon them,
06:58 who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
07:00 And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war
07:04 which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred,
07:06 both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses,
07:08 and of the sheep: Take it of their half,
07:11 and give it unto Eleazar the priest for an heave offering
07:13 of the Lord. And of the children of Israel's half,
07:16 thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons,
07:18 of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks,
07:20 of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites,
07:22 which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
07:25 And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
07:29 And the booty, being the rest of the prey
07:31 which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand
07:34 and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep
07:36 and threescore and twelve thousand beeves,
07:37 And threescore and one thousand asses,
07:39 And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women
07:42 that had not known man by lying with him.
07:44 And the half, which was the portion of them that went out
07:47 to the war was in number three hundred thousand
07:49 and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
07:52 And the Lord's tribute of the sheep was six hundred
07:54 and three score and fifteen, and the beeves were thirty
07:57 and six thousand; of which the Lord's tribute was three score
07:59 and twelve. And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred
08:03 of which the Lord's tribute was three score and one.
08:05 And the persons were sixteen thousand;
08:07 of which the Lord's tribute was thirty and two persons.
08:09 And Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord's
08:12 heave offering unto Eleazar the priest,
08:15 as the Lord commanded Moses.
08:16 And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided
08:19 from the men that warred, (Now the half that pertained
08:22 unto the congregation was three hundred thousand
08:23 and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,
08:27 And thirty and six thousand beeves,
08:28 And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,
08:30 and sixteen thousand persons;)
08:32 Even of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one portion
08:35 of fifty, both of man and of beast,
08:37 and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge
08:39 of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.
08:43 And the officers which were over thousands of the host,
08:46 the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds,
08:48 came near unto Moses: And they said unto Moses,
08:50 Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war
08:53 which are under our charge and there lacketh not one man of us.
08:56 We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord
08:58 which every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains,
09:01 and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets,
09:04 to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.
09:06 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them,
09:09 even all wrought jewels and all the gold of the offering
09:12 that they offered up to the Lord,
09:13 of the captains of thousands, of hundreds,
09:16 was sixteen thousand, seven hundred and fifty shekels.
09:21 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold
09:24 of the captains of thousands and of hundreds,
09:26 and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation,
09:28 for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
09:31 We're on chapter 32 in Numbers This is the King James Version.
09:35 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad
09:38 had a great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land
09:40 of Jazer and the land of Gilead that, behold, the place was
09:43 a place for cattle; The children of Gad and
09:46 the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses
09:48 and Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the
09:50 congregation, saying, Ataroth, and Dibon and Jazer and Nimrah
09:54 and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam and Nebo, and Beon,
09:57 Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation
10:00 of Isreael, is a land for cattle and thy servants have cattle:
10:03 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight,
10:07 let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession,
10:10 and bring us not over Jordan. And Moses said unto the
10:13 children of Gad and to the children of Reuben,
10:15 Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?
10:18 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel
10:22 from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?
10:25 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea
10:28 to see the land. For when they went up unto the valley
10:31 of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart
10:34 of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land
10:37 which the Lord had given them. And the Lord's anger was kindled
10:41 the same time, and he sware, saying, Surely none of the men
10:46 that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward,
10:49 shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac,
10:52 and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
10:57 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua
11:01 the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.
11:04 And the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them
11:09 wander in the wilderness 40 years until all
11:12 the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord,
11:15 was consumed, and behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead,
11:19 an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger
11:23 of the Lord toward Israel. For if ye turn away from after him,
11:27 he will yet again leave them in the wilderness;
11:29 and ye shall destroy all this people. And they came near
11:34 unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for
11:36 our cattle, and cities for our little ones: But we ourselves
11:40 will go ready armed before the children of Israel,
11:43 until we have brought them unto their place:
11:46 and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities
11:49 because of the inhabitants of the land. We will not return
11:53 unto our houses, until the children of Israel
11:54 have inherited every man his inheritance.
11:57 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan,
12:00 or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us
12:02 on this side Jordan eastward. And Moses said unto them,
12:06 If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord
12:10 to war, and will go all of you armed over Jordan
12:12 before the Lord until he hath driven out his enemies
12:15 from before him, and the land be subdued before the Lord:
12:18 then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the Lord
12:21 and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession
12:24 before the Lord. But if ye will not do so, behold ye have sinned
12:30 against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.
12:34 Build your cities for your little ones,
12:36 and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded
12:40 out of your mouth. And the children of Gad
12:42 and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying,
12:45 Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth. Our little ones,
12:49 our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle shall be there
12:53 in the cities of Gilead: But thy servants will pass over
12:57 every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle,
13:00 as my lord saith. So concerning Moses commanded Eleazar
13:04 the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the chief fathers of
13:07 the tribes of the children of Israel: And Moses said unto them
13:10 If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass
13:13 with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle before the Lord
13:17 and the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall
13:21 give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
13:24 But if they will not pass over with you armed,
13:27 they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan
13:30 and the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered,
13:34 saying, As the Lord hath said unto thy servants so will we do.
13:38 We will pass over, armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan
13:44 that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan
13:47 will be ours. And Moses gave unto them, even to the children
13:51 of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe
13:54 of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon
13:58 king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan,
14:01 the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts,
14:05 even the cities of the country round about.
14:08 Thank you for joining with me today to read the word of God.
14:12 And I was struck again and again throughout this chronicle of how
14:16 important it is that we obey God in even the smallest things.
14:20 He punished those who disobeyed, He rewarded Caleb and Joshua.
14:25 who faithfully followed His word and on the day that He comes to
14:29 take us all home, may we be found faithful.
14:31 Thank you for joining me.
