00:17 Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and before we read together today, let's
00:22 pray. Dear God, thank your so much for your promises
00:27 and for your protection. Thank you for the stories of how
00:31 you led the children of Israel safely to the promised land
00:34 all those thousands of years ago. Please be with us now
00:37 as we read them and may we learn the lessons that apply to our
00:41 lives today. Please send your Holy Spirit to guide us.
00:44 We love you and thank you for loving us. Amen
00:47 We're picking up the story in Deuteronomy chapter 7,
00:51 and I'm reading from the King James Version
00:54 Across the top of the Bible the header says for me
00:57 The Promises of God, on one page and on the other page it says,
01:00 the Protection of God. We're going to pick up reading in
01:03 verse 13, Promises and the Protection of God.
01:06 And he will love thee and bless thee, and multiply thee:
01:11 he will also bless the fruit of thy womb,
01:13 and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine,
01:16 and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks
01:19 of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers
01:22 to give thee. Thou shalt be blessed above all people:
01:26 there shall not be male or female barren among you,
01:30 or among your cattle. And the Lord will take away from thee
01:34 all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt,
01:37 which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them
01:41 that hate thee. And thou shalt consume all the people which
01:45 the Lord thy God shall deliver thee; thine eyes shall have
01:48 no pity upon them; neither shalt thou serve their gods;
01:51 for that will be a snare unto thee. If thou shalt say in thine
01:56 heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess
02:00 them? Thou shalt not be afraid of them
02:03 but shalt well remember what the Lord thy God did
02:06 unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt; The great temptations
02:09 which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders,
02:12 and the mighty hand, and stretched out arm,
02:14 whereby the Lord thy God brought thee out:
02:17 so shall the Lord thy God do unto all the people of whom
02:22 thou art afraid. Moreover the Lord thy God will send
02:26 the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide
02:30 themselves from thee, be destroyed.
02:33 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the Lord thy God
02:36 is among you, a mighty God and terrible. And the Lord thy God
02:41 will put out those nations before thee by little and little
02:44 thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts
02:48 of the field increase upon thee. But the Lord thy God shall
02:51 deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty
02:55 destruction, until they be destroyed.
02:57 And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand,
03:00 and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven:
03:02 There shall no man be able to stand before thee,
03:06 until thou have destroyed them. The graven images of their gods
03:10 shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver
03:15 or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee,
03:17 lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination
03:21 to the Lord thy God. Neither shalt thou bring an abomination
03:25 into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it:
03:28 but thou shalt utterly detest it and thou shalt utterly abhor it;
03:32 for it is a cursed thing. We're continuing to read
03:37 the instructions of the Lord through Moses to Israel
03:40 Deuteronomy chapter 8. This is the King James Version.
03:45 All the commandments which I command thee this day
03:48 shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply,
03:51 and go in and possess the land which the Lord sware
03:54 unto your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way
03:57 which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years
04:00 in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee,
04:04 to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep
04:07 his commandments, or no. And he humbled thee, and suffered
04:11 the to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest
04:14 not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee
04:18 know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word
04:22 that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
04:25 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell
04:31 these forty years. Thou shalt also consider in thine heart,
04:35 that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God
04:40 chasteneth thee. Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments
04:43 of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
04:48 For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land
04:54 of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of
04:58 valleys and hills; a land of wheat, and barley, and vines,
05:02 and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil of olive and honey
05:07 A land wherein thou shalt eat bread with out scarceness,
05:10 thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron
05:16 and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
05:19 When thou has eaten and art full then thou shalt bless
05:24 the Lord thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
05:27 Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God,
05:32 in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments,
05:35 and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
05:38 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly
05:42 houses, and dwelt therein; and when thy herds and thy flocks
05:46 multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied,
05:49 and all that thou hast is multiplied; Then thine heart
05:54 be lifted up and thou forget the Lord thy God,
05:56 which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt,
05:59 and the house of bondage; who led thee through that great and
06:04 terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents,
06:06 and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water;
06:10 who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
06:12 who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers
06:16 knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove
06:19 thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
06:23 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine
06:26 hand hath gotten me this wealth, But thou shalt remember
06:31 the Lord thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power
06:35 to get wealth, that He may establish his covenant
06:39 which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
06:42 And if shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God,
06:46 and walk after other gods, and serve them and worship them,
06:50 I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
06:54 As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before your face,
06:57 so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient
07:01 unto the voice of the Lord your God.
07:03 We're continuing to read in the King James Version,
07:07 Deuteronomy, chapter 9.
07:09 Hear, O Israel, thou art to pass over Jordan this day
07:14 to go in to possess nations greater and mightier
07:18 than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,
07:22 A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims,
07:26 whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say,
07:29 Who can stand before the children of Anak!
07:32 Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he
07:36 which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire
07:40 he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down
07:43 before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy
07:47 them quickly, as the Lord hath said unto thee.
07:50 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God
07:56 hath cast them out from before thee, saying,
07:59 For my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess
08:02 this land: but for the wickedness of the nations
08:05 the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.
08:07 Not for thy righteousness or for the uprightness
08:11 of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land:
08:13 but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God
08:17 doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform
08:21 the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham,
08:23 Isaac, and Jacob. Understand therefore that the Lord thy God
08:29 giveth thee not this good land to possess it
08:32 for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiff-necked people.
08:36 Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the Lord thy God
08:41 to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst
08:45 depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place,
08:47 ye have been rebellious against the Lord. Also in Horeb
08:51 ye provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry
08:54 with you to have destroyed you.
08:55 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of
08:58 stone, even the tables of the covenant which the Lord made
09:01 with you, then I abode in the mount 40 days and 40 nights,
09:04 I neither did eat bread nor drink water;
09:06 And the Lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with
09:10 with the finger of God; and on them was written according
09:14 to all the words, which the Lord spake with you in the mount.
09:16 out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
09:19 And it came to pass at the end of 40 days and 40 nights,
09:23 that the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables
09:25 of the covenant. And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee
09:29 down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast
09:32 brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves;
09:35 they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I
09:38 commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
09:40 Furthermore, the Lord spake unto me, saying, I have seen
09:45 this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. Let me
09:50 alone that I may destroy them, and blot out their name
09:53 from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation, mightier
09:56 and greater than they. So I turned and came down
10:00 from the mount, and the mount burned with fire:
10:02 and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
10:07 and I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord
10:10 your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside
10:15 quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
10:17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands,
10:21 and brake them before your eyes. And I fell down before the Lord,
10:26 as at the first, 40 days and 40 nights: I did neither eat bread
10:31 nor drink water because of all your sins which ye sinned,
10:35 in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him
10:38 to anger. For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure,
10:43 wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you.
10:45 But the Lord hearkened unto me at that time also.
10:50 And the Lord was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him
10:54 and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. And I took
10:56 your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire,
11:01 and stamped it, and ground it very small even until it was as
11:05 small as dust and I cast the dust thereof into the brook
11:08 that descended out of the mount. And at Taberah, and at Massah,
11:13 and at Kibrothhatavah, ye provoked the Lord to wrath.
11:17 Likewise when the Lord sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying,
11:22 Go up and possess the land which I have given you;
11:24 then ye rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God
11:27 and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
11:30 Ye have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that
11:35 I knew you. Thus I fell down before the Lord 40 days
11:38 and 40 nights, as I fell down at the first; because the Lord
11:42 had said he would destroy you. I prayed therefore unto the Lord
11:46 and said, O Lord God, destroy not thy people
11:48 and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed
11:50 through thy greatness, which thou has brought forth out of
11:53 Egypt with a mighty hand. Remember thy servants,
11:57 Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness
12:01 of this people, nor to their wickedness nor to their sin:
12:04 lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say,
12:08 Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land
12:11 which he promised them, and because he hated them,
12:12 he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
12:15 Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance,
12:20 which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy
12:24 stretched out arm. Continuing to read in
12:27 Deuteronomy, chapter 10 At that time the Lord said
12:31 unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first,
12:35 and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark
12:38 of wood. And I will write on the tables the words that were
12:41 in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them
12:44 in the ark. And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed
12:48 two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the
12:51 mount, having the two tables in mine hand.
12:53 And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing,
12:57 the Ten Commandments, which the Lord spake unto you in the
13:00 mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly:
13:02 And the Lord gave them unto me. And I turned myself and came
13:07 down form the mount, and put the tables in the ark
13:09 which I had made and there they be, as the Lord commanded me.
13:13 And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth
13:18 the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died,
13:22 and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered
13:27 in the priest's office in his stead.
13:29 >From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah
13:34 to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. At that time the Lord
13:39 separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant
13:42 of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him,
13:45 and to bless in his name, unto this day. Wherefore Levi hath
13:51 no part nor inheritance with his brethren;
13:53 the Lord is his inheritance, according as the Lord thy God
13:58 promised him. And I stayed in mount, according to
14:02 the first time, 40 days and 40 nights; and the Lord
14:04 hearkened unto me at that time also, and the Lord would not
14:08 destroy thee. And the Lord said unto me, Arise, take thy journey
14:13 before the people, that they may go in and possess the land,
14:16 which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.
14:19 And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee,
14:23 but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways and to love
14:29 him, and to serve the Lord thy God
14:31 with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
