00:17 Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me to read the 00:22 word of God. 00:23 Let's pray together before we start. 00:25 Dear God, thank You so much for these wonderful words that guide 00:30 us on firm paths. 00:32 And as we read how You guided the Israelites long ago, may we 00:36 take the lessons that You gave to them and apply them to our 00:39 lives today to bear fruit to Your glory. 00:41 We love You so much. 00:42 Thank You for loving us. 00:43 Amen. 00:46 We were reading in the book of Deuteronomy. 00:47 Moses has called the children of Israel together and reviewed 00:50 with them God's leading, and is now giving them the commands 00:54 of the Lord and saying to them you have two choices. 00:56 You can choose to obey and live a wonderful blessed life, 01:00 or you can choose to turn from the Lord your God, and you will 01:03 pay the price for that decision. 01:05 We're picking up in chapter 20. 01:06 This is the King James Version. 01:08 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, 01:12 and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, 01:15 be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, 01:20 which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 01:22 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, 01:25 that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, 01:28 and shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day 01:33 unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts 01:36 faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified 01:41 because of them; for the Lord your God is he that goeth with 01:45 you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. 01:49 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, 01:53 What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not 01:56 dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die 02:00 in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 02:02 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not 02:05 yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, 02:09 lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. 02:12 And what man is there that hath bethrothed a wife, and hath not 02:16 taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in 02:20 the battle, and another man take her. 02:21 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, 02:26 and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful 02:29 and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, 02:32 lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart. 02:36 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of 02:39 speaking unto the people, that they shall make captains of the 02:42 armies to lead the people. 02:44 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, 02:48 then proclaim peace unto it. 02:51 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto 02:55 thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein 02:58 shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. 03:01 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war 03:05 against thee, then thou shalt besiege it: and when the Lord 03:09 thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite 03:13 every male thereof with the edge of the sword: 03:15 but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, 03:18 and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, 03:21 shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of 03:25 thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee. 03:28 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off 03:32 from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations. 03:35 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God 03:39 doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save 03:42 alive nothing that breatheth: but thou shalt utterly destroy 03:47 them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, 03:51 and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord 03:55 thy God hath commanded thee: that they teach you not to do 03:59 after all their abominations, which they have done unto their 04:02 gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God. 04:05 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war 04:09 against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees 04:13 thereof by forcing an ax against them: for thou mayest eat of 04:16 them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the 04:23 trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, 04:26 thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build 04:30 bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, 04:32 until it be subdued. 04:34 We're continuing in Deuteronomy, chapter 21. 04:37 If one be found slain in the land which the Lord thy God 04:43 giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not 04:47 known who hath slain him: then thy elders and thy judges shall 04:51 come forth and they shall measure unto the cities which 04:54 are round about him that is slain: and it shall be, 04:57 that the city which is next unto the slain man, 05:00 even the elders of that city shall take a heifer, 05:03 which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn 05:06 in the yoke; and the elders of that city shall bring down the 05:10 heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, 05:13 and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the 05:17 valley: and the priests and sons of Levi shall come near; 05:21 for them the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, 05:25 and to bless in the name of the Lord; and by their word shall 05:29 every controversy and every stroke be tried: and all the 05:33 elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, 05:36 shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the 05:39 valley: and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed 05:43 this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. 05:47 Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast 05:51 redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people 05:55 of Israel's charge. 05:57 And the blood shall be forgiven them. 05:59 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among 06:03 you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight 06:06 of the Lord. 06:07 When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, 06:11 and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, 06:14 and thou hast taken them captive, and seest among the 06:17 captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, 06:20 that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; then thou shalt bring 06:23 her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare 06:27 her nails; and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from 06:30 off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her 06:34 father and her mother a full month: and after that thou 06:37 shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall 06:41 be thy wife. 06:42 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt 06:46 let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all 06:50 for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou 06:53 hast humbled her. 06:55 If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, 06:59 and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; 07:03 and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: then it 07:08 shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he 07:11 hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn 07:15 before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: 07:19 but he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, 07:23 by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he 07:27 is the beginning of his strength; the right of the 07:29 firstborn is his. 07:31 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not 07:36 obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, 07:39 and that, when they have chastened him, will not harken 07:42 unto them: then shall his father and his mother lay hold 07:46 on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto 07:49 the gate of his place; and they shall say unto the elders of his 07:53 city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not 07:57 obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 08:01 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, 08:04 that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; 08:09 and all Israel shall hear, and fear. 08:12 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be 08:17 to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: his body 08:22 shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any 08:26 wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of 08:30 God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God 08:34 giveth thee for an inheritance. 08:36 We're continuing now in Deuteronomy, chapter 22. 08:40 This is the King James Version. 08:42 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, 08:46 and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring 08:49 them again unto thy brother. 08:51 And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him 08:55 not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, 08:58 and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, 09:01 and thou shalt restore it to him again. 09:03 In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou 09:08 do with his raiment; and with all lost things of thy 09:11 brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou 09:15 do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself. 09:19 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the 09:24 way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him 09:27 to lift them up again. 09:29 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, 09:33 neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that 09:37 do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. 09:40 If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any 09:46 tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, 09:50 and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, 09:53 thou shalt not take the dam with the young: but thou shalt in 09:58 any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; 10:00 that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest 10:03 prolong thy days. 10:04 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a 10:09 battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon 10:12 thine house, if any man fall from thence. 10:15 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the 10:19 fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy 10:22 vineyard, be defiled. 10:24 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together. 10:28 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen 10:32 and linen together. 10:33 Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy 10:37 vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself. 10:40 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, 10:45 and give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an 10:49 evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came 10:53 to her, I found her not a maid: then shall the father of the 10:58 damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the 11:03 damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: 11:06 and the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my 11:10 daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; and, lo, 11:15 he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, 11:18 I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of 11:23 my daughter's virginity. 11:24 And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. 11:28 And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise 11:31 him; and they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, 11:36 and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath 11:39 brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall 11:42 be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. 11:47 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not 11:52 found for the damsel: then they shall bring out the damsel 11:55 to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city 11:58 shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath 12:01 wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: 12:05 so shalt thou put evil away from among you. 12:09 If a man be found lying with a women married to a husband, 12:13 then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with 12:17 the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away 12:20 evil from Israel. 12:21 If a damsel that is a virgin be bethrothed unto a husband, 12:26 and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; then ye shall 12:30 bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall 12:33 stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, 12:37 because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, 12:41 because he hath humbled his neighbor's wife: so thou shalt 12:45 put away evil from among you. 12:47 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man 12:51 force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with 12:54 her shall die: but unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; 12:58 man riseth against his neighbor, and slayeth him, even so is this 13:04 matter: for he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel 13:08 cried, and there was none to save her. 13:11 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, 13:13 and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 13:18 then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's 13:21 father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; 13:25 because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away 13:29 all his days. 13:32 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover 13:33 his father's skirt. 13:37 We're continuing in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 23, 13:38 and this is the King James Version. 13:42 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member 13:44 cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord. 13:51 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; 13:54 even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the 13:57 congregation of the Lord. 14:02 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation 14:03 of the Lord; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter 14:07 into the congregation of the Lord for ever: because they met 14:11 you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came 14:15 forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam 14:18 the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee. 14:22 Thank you for joining with me today to read the Bible 14:27 together. 14:31 And until next time goodbye, and God bless. |
