00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to be reading in 00:21 the book of Psalms. 00:22 I know sometimes, for me and for many of us, 00:26 we can become discouraged thinking that we're basically 00:32 standing alone; that nobody really understands us, 00:35 or cares, or notices. 00:38 In the middle of the Psalm that we were reading the last time, 00:42 and we're going to pick up; Psalm 73, David is experiencing 00:45 some of those same sentiments. 00:47 He's expressing how he's surrounded by enemies, 00:51 and he's feeling alone. 00:53 We're going to pick up his conclusion of the matter, 00:56 but before we start, let's pray together. 00:58 Dear Lord, thank You for these words. 01:01 Thank You for the assurance that we are never alone, 01:04 in spite of how we feel. 01:06 We love You, and thank You for loving us. 01:08 Amen. 01:09 Picking up in Psalm 73, verse 23. 01:13 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: 01:18 thou hast held me by my right hand. 01:21 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, 01:24 and afterward receive me to glory. 01:27 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth 01:33 that I desire beside thee. 01:35 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength 01:41 of my heart, and my portion for ever. 01:44 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: 01:49 thou hast destroyed all them that go whoring from thee. 01:53 But it is good for me to draw near to God: 01:58 I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare 02:02 all thy works. 02:04 Psalm 74. 02:06 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger 02:14 smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? 02:17 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; 02:21 the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; 02:25 this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. 02:27 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; 02:32 even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. 02:35 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; 02:39 they set up their ensigns for signs. 02:42 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes 02:45 upon the thick trees. 02:46 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once 02:51 with axes and hammers. 02:53 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, 02:55 they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of 02:59 thy name to the ground. 03:01 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: 03:05 they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. 03:09 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: 03:13 neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. 03:18 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? 03:21 shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? 03:25 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? 03:29 pluck it out of thy bosom. 03:30 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst 03:34 of the earth. 03:35 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: 03:38 thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. 03:41 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest 03:45 him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. 03:48 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: 03:51 thou driedst up mighty rivers. 03:53 The day is thine, the night also is thine: 03:57 thou hast prepared the light and the sun. 04:00 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: 04:03 thou hast made summer and winter. 04:05 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, 04:09 and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. 04:13 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude 04:17 of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy 04:21 poor for ever. 04:22 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth 04:26 are full of the habitations of cruelty. 04:29 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: 04:33 let the poor and needy praise thy name. 04:36 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: 04:40 remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 04:44 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: 04:47 the tumult of those that rise up against thee 04:50 increaseth continually. 04:53 Psalm 75; this is the King James Version. 04:58 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, 05:00 unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near 05:05 thy wondrous works declare. 05:07 When I shall receive the congregation 05:09 I will judge uprightly. 05:11 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are 05:14 dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. 05:17 Selah. 05:18 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, 05:23 Lift not up the horn: lift not up your horn on high: 05:28 speak not with a stiff neck. 05:31 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west 05:36 nor from the south. 05:38 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, 05:42 and setteth up another. 05:44 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, 05:48 and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; 05:51 and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, 05:55 all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, 05:58 and drink them. 06:00 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises 06:04 to the God of Jacob. 06:05 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; 06:08 but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. 06:13 Psalm 76. 06:16 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. 06:21 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. 06:27 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, 06:32 and the battle. 06:33 Selah. 06:34 Thou art more glorious and excellent 06:37 than the mountains of prey. 06:39 The stout-hearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: 06:43 and none of the men of might have found their hands. 06:47 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse 06:51 are cast into a dead sleep. 06:54 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand 06:58 in thy sight when once thou art angry? 07:01 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; 07:04 the earth feared, and was still. 07:06 When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. 07:10 Selah. 07:12 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: 07:14 the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. 07:17 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about 07:23 him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. 07:26 He shall cut off the spirit of princes: 07:30 he is terrible to the kings of the earth. 07:33 Psalm 77. 07:36 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; 07:40 and he gave ear unto me. 07:42 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: 07:45 my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: 07:48 my soul refused to be comforted. 07:50 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, 07:54 and my spirit was overwhelmed. 07:57 Selah. 07:58 Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled 08:02 that I cannot speak. 08:04 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. 08:08 I call to remembrance my song in the night: 08:12 I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit 08:16 made diligent search. 08:17 Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favorable 08:23 no more? 08:24 Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise 08:28 fail for evermore? 08:29 Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut 08:35 up his tender mercies? 08:36 Selah. 08:38 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember 08:44 the years of the right hand of the most High. 08:47 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy 08:53 wonders of old. 08:54 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. 09:00 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: 09:04 who is so great a God as our God? 09:07 Thou art the God that doest wonders: 09:10 thou hast declared thy strength among the people. 09:13 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, 09:17 the sons of Jacob and Joseph. 09:19 Selah. 09:20 the waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; 09:24 they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. 09:28 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: 09:33 thine arrows also went abroad. 09:37 the voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: 09:40 the lightnings lightened the world: 09:42 the earth trembled and shook. 09:44 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, 09:49 and thy foot-steps are not known. 09:50 Thou ledest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses 09:55 and Aaron. 09:57 Psalm 78. 09:58 This is the King James Version. 10:01 Give ear, O my people, to my law: 10:03 incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 10:07 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark 10:11 sayings of old: which we have heard and known, 10:14 and our fathers have told us. 10:16 We will not hide them from their children, 10:19 showing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, 10:23 and his strength, and his wonderful works 10:26 that he hath done. 10:27 For he established a testimony in Jacob, 10:30 and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, 10:33 that they should make them known to their children: 10:36 that the generation to come might know them, 10:39 even the children which should be born: who should arise and 10:43 declare them to their children: that they might set their hope 10:47 in God, and not forget the works of God, 10:50 but keep his commandments: and might not be as their 10:53 fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation: 10:56 a generation that set not their heart aright, 10:59 and whose spirit was not steadfast with God. 11:02 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, 11:06 turned back in the day of battle. 11:08 They kept not the covenant of God, 11:10 and refused to walk in his law. 11:11 and forgot his works, and his wonders that he had shown them. 11:14 Marvelous things did he in the sight of their fathers, 11:17 in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 11:19 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; 11:23 and he made the waters to stand as an heap. 11:25 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, 11:28 and all the night with a light of fire. 11:31 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, 11:33 and gave them drink as out of the great depths. 11:36 He brought streams also out of the rock, 11:40 and caused waters to run down like rivers. 11:43 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High 11:48 in the wilderness. 11:49 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat 11:52 for their lust. 11:53 Yea, they spake against God; they said, 11:57 Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? 12:00 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, 12:03 and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? 12:07 can he provide flesh for his people? 12:09 Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: 12:13 so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up 12:17 against Israel; because they believed not in God, 12:20 and trusted not in his salvation: 12:23 though he had commanded the clouds from above, 12:26 and opened the doors of heaven, and had rained down manna 12:30 upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. 12:35 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. 12:39 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: 12:41 and by his power he brought in the south wind. 12:44 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, 12:47 and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: 12:49 and he let it fall in the midst of their camp, 12:52 round about their habitations. 12:53 So they did eat, and were well filled: 12:56 for he gave them their own desire; 12:58 they were not estranged from their lust. 13:02 But while their meat was yet in their mouths, 13:06 the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, 13:10 and smote down the chosen men of Israel. 13:13 For all this they sinned still, and believed not 13:18 for his wondrous works. 13:20 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, 13:23 and their years in trouble. 13:25 When he slew them, then they sought him: 13:28 and they returned and inquired early after God. 13:31 And they remembered that God was their rock, 13:34 and the high God their redeemer. 13:37 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, 13:41 and they lied unto him with their tongues. 13:44 For their heart was not right with him, 13:47 neither were they steadfast in his covenant. 13:49 But he, being full of compassion, 13:53 forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: 13:56 yea, many a time turned he his anger away, 14:00 and did not stir up all his wrath. 14:03 For he remembered that they were but flesh; 14:07 a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. 14:11 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, 14:14 and grieve him in the desert! 14:17 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, 14:19 and limited the Holy One of Israel. 14:22 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered 14:26 them from the enemy. 14:27 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, 14:29 and his wonders in the field of Zoan: 14:31 and had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, 14:34 that they could not drink. 14:36 Please join me again next time to read the book 14:38 of Psalms together. 14:39 Goodbye. |
